SLEEPOVER - TEN SQUARE
from GNI MAG ISSUE 47
by GNI MAG
OMFG BORED OFF MY hole wouldn’t come into it. I needed a night out and I needed it quickly. The last time I had a night on the town was during our festive break in lockdown - so I was literally chompiing at the bit to be in town with my fellow gays!
I’d my night all planned. I was going to go for dinner first with a friend and then head to a few bars and hopefully end at Union Street like I used to do when we were allowed out. Problem was, I’d heard getting a taxi was a pure nightmare! Now I only live in East Belfast which is literally a 5 or ten minute taxi drive, but I didn’t want to risk having to walk home in a drunken stupor in what could have been one of our glorious Belfast nights of pishing rain. The decision was made that I was going to take away the risk of a good night out being ruined at the end, and book into a hotel.
I wanted something city centre so it was handy for getting ready for heading out, but also dead handy for when it was time for bed. After looking about a bit it was Ten Square that caught my eye. It is literally just behind the City Hall so it’s smack bang central for everything in town.
I arrived for check-in at about 3.30 (which was half an hour early), luckily for me my room was ready. The staff on reception were really friendly and helpful and obviously adhering to all current covid restrictions, they checked me in and gave me my room key. My room was on the 6th floor, and when I say room I’m really playing it down - I got a suite, and it was GORGEOUS!
The room really well planned and laid out, a dressing area on the left when entering, then on into the lounge area with beautiful leather button-back chesterfield sofa and armchair and the first of two massive flatscreen TVs. This area also had a run of units with a fridge - perfect for preparing the predrinks! There was an opening at either side of the TV wall that lead into the bedroom area, through here a massive comfy bed greeted me. This part of the suite also had a stunning free-standing bath underneath another mega TV. Then off this room was a stunning shower room (room for more than one in the shower - just saying).
I got ready and went for a quick drink in The Loft Bar on the 7th floor before heading out to meet my friend.
When I returned in the wee small hours the doorman was delightful and graciously pointed me in the right direction for the lifts (TBH I’m surprised I could walk given the amount of drink I’d consumed). I made it to my room and had the best sleep ever.
I’d booked in for breakfast at 10.45am and I just about made it, and I’m glad I dragged myself out of bed. It was just what I needed. The breakfast menu was simple, but everything you could want. I went for the traditional full fry. It was freshly prepared and delicious.
I’d have no problem recommending Ten Square Hotel to all of you. Great service, beautiful rooms, super comfortable beds, and tasty food - all in the City Centre.
