Emergency Medicine

Dr. Angelique Campen has been an emergency medicine physician for over 20 years at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center as well as a clinical professor of emergency medicine at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

In addition to serving the community in the emergency department, Dr. Campen has been both philanthropic and innovative. Early on she identified an issue in the emergency department and created a solution.

Formerly, police officers would bring citizens in custody to the emergency department for DUI blood draws or medical clearances. This placed additional strain on an already busy and chaotic department by bringing in patients who likely didn’t need ER-level care. Additionally, it took two police officers off the street for sometimes hours at a time. It is by creating a more efficient system that Vital Medical Services was born. The company serves cities and law enforcement by sending providers directly to the jail to perform the blood draws and medical clearances.

This effort has unburdened local emergency departments, saved countless man hours and taxpayer dollars, and helped streamline the legal process. It is through this vehicle that Dr. Campen has also tackled another threat to public safety: the opioid epidemic.

Vital Medical Services both trains and supplies police officers with nasal Narcan, the life-saving antidote to opioid overdose. When time is of the essence and someone is not breathing, nasal Narcan is the lifesaving medication that police officers can administer while waiting for paramedics. This program has saved countless lives.

Dr. Campen also spends time and energy educating the public on medical issues through her social media. She started @GlamERdoc to empower young women to pursue serious, powerful, meaningful jobs and still be feminine, glamorous, and fashionable. When the Covid pandemic hit, her platform morphed into providing reliable and timely information when there was little available. Now she gives tips on how to be your best medical advocate, describes ways to stay safe in the medical arena, and explains the interesting issues for health.
