Dr. Edgar Chavez, MD, is a distinguished boardcertified family medicine physician with over 20 years of professional experience, recognized for his exceptional patient care, expertise, and leadership. He obtained his medical degree from Stanford University and completed his residency in family medicine at White Memorial Hospital. Following his residency, Dr. Chavez decided to pursue his dream of serving the low-income community of South Central Los Angeles where he grew up as an immigrant from El Salvador. His passion for serving low-income communities in South Central Los Angeles led to the establishment of Universal Community Health Center, Inc., a nonprofit community clinic in 2009. Since then, UCHC has expanded to become a trusted Federally Qualified Health Center that provides quality, accessible health care to underserved communities.
With a patient-centered model of care that empowers communities toward wellness, UCHC has become a beacon of hope for impoverished, diverse residents of South Los Angeles. UCHC provides full-scope family primary care and comprehensive care, including OB/ GYN, behavioral health, nutrition, and dental, with the primary goal of addressing patient health care needs comprehensively at a single location.
The organization has grown from a single site to six health centers and two mobile health clinics, including one school-based health clinic. As a highly regarded Safety Net Clinic, UCHC has become a true medical and dental home to over 10,000 Angelenos.
Dr. Chavez’s and UCHC’s exceptional work has been instrumental in bridging the gap in access to care, particularly for those in poverty-stricken areas. One of UCHC's founding principles is giving back to the community. For over a decade, Dr. Chavez and UCHC have demonstrated unwavering selfless dedication to the community by providing compassionate care and partnering with communitybased organizations and foundations to extend their reach and services to one of the most densely populated pockets of poverty in the United States.
