Laura Andrea Gรณmez Mendoza The Performance of Social Movements in Public Spaces Dr. Stephanie Sherman 12. May. 2017 Space intervention by Olafur Eliasson It is through the multidisciplinary intervention of Danish-Icelandic artist Eliasson that the spaces manage to open when the state or any superior force previously closed and vice versa. As Samuel Johnson points out in one of his works, "It is commonly observed, that when two men meet, their first talk is of the weather, they are in to tell each other, what each must already know, that it is Hot or cold, bright or cloudy, windy or calm. " Indeed, The Weather Project takes this omnipresent theme around the traditional British perception of time as the basis for exploring ideas about experience, representation and movement.
In a first contact with this documentation, the climate presumes to be the central theme; Nevertheless the intreressant is the dual performance between the spectator and the space that generates the same work. It is necessary to emphasize that the perception of an element like the sun is different due to the cultural synecdoche that the English attribute to it, being that they yearn for the sun in such a way that when it does it generates an impact in its daily life because most of the time This one is absent. I consider that the installation refers to a destination with halos of romanticism, by representing materially an idea of the sublime in terms of the landscape and the blindly insignificant situation of man with respect to nature in the plane of ecstatic contemplation.
