Un Nouveau Etudiant A New Student Emma Oshiro (’19)

A new French student made a mistake in his writing. He then continued to incorrectly use the -ER and -RE verbs. The grammar police took him to court to be judged. He was found guilty and was sent to prison.

Today is Monday. I donʼt like Mondays. Monday is when the weekend comes to an end and school starts. The teacher says that we need to sit down and be silent, and there is a bad man who is very dangerous. Clotaire, who is last in class, starts to cry, and Rufus says his father will stop the bad man and after Eudes says he will punch Clotaire if he doesnʼt stop crying and that we will all die if he doesnʼt stop. Agnan says he is going to die and Geoffrey says his father, who is very rich, will be very mad. And Alceste starts to cry because he will have nothing to eat. But then the principal walks in and says ”My apologies it was a ʻfalse alarm.ʼ”

The neighborhood is full of gardens. There are a lot of butterflies, flowers, and birds. It is beautiful. I run through the garden and eat an apple. There are no skyscrapers, just nature and houses.

Today, in class, Agnan was the teacher because the teacher was sick and she did not come to school. This was funny because we just played video games on our i-pads and Agnan said to us “Stop!” I sent a text of a laughing emoji to Clotaire, and he sent me the glasses emoji. Agnan was really mad, and he said “You guys are very bad boys!” but we just laughed and Geoffroy took a video of Agnan on his i-phone 6s+. When the Bouillon came back, he gave us a detention. I have my detention tomorrow, and I am going to clean the computer lab and give my electronics to the Bouillon for two weeks.

Juste une Aventure Just an Adventure Adelaida Cazin (’17)

One beer, two beers, three beers. Itʼs been almost 40 years since I saw the love of my life, her name was Louisette. I am depressed because yesterday she walked out of my life; now I donʼt want to live. It was a Saturday night, she was in town, there were many fireworks, I invited her to come with me because we hadnʼt seen each other since we were little kids. Since she left my house I never wanted girlfriends, I never had my first kiss, I wanted her to be my first. And yesterday she was my first, underneath the fireworks we kissed, we danced, and we talked for hours. I fell in love, she made me feel young. Later on that night, I asked her if she wanted to marry me, and she said: “Are you crazy? This is just an adventure, I already have someone else I like!!!” Since then I have been sad because no one likes me, I am 50, single, and depressed, I drink from morning to night. One beer, two beers, three beers.

She has the same blue eyes and blonde hair, but it isnʼt in braids like when they were small. “Hello Nicolas,” she says. “Hello Louisette,” Nicolas says with a smile. “Where is your mother?” asks Nicolas. “She is in the house with your mother,” she says. They go in the house and talk about the years, and Nicolasʼs mother is very happy to see them together after so much time. Louisette gives a beautiful cake to Nicolasʼs mother. “Itʼs magnificent!” Mother says. “Yes, thank you Louisette” Nicolas says. “Itʼs no problem, I owe you for all the things I have did so many years ago.”

I usually don't like to go to school because I have to wake up early, but I really like this term's classes. Chinese is my favorite. What is your favorite class? Tomorrow is the weekend, so I have free time; I want to go shopping. I know you like to go shopping, so do you want to go clothes shopping with me? Or do you want to do something else? I have a lot of long pants and long sleeve shirts, so I want to buy t-shirts and shorts. I also want to buy a pair of slippers because I broke my other ones. Hello long time no see, how are you? I have been very busy, but I’m free this week, since school is on break. So I was wondering if you wanted to go to dinner and watch a movie with me. I hope you can come so I can give you your birthday gift, because I missed your party last week. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! How old are you now? I can’t remember if you’re a year older or a year younger than I. Anyways, how is your school? My school is very small and there are only girls there. This term is what makes me busy all the time, because I have final exams for every class. I only have four classes, World Cultures, Chinese, Geometry, and Literature. World Cultures is very easy, but class starts in the morning, so I am always tired in that class. Next is Chinese and that class is a little hard because I have a hard time remembering characters and my handwriting is ugly. Then, I have Geometry which really hard, but I like math and I am good at it, so it is easier for me than it is for my classmates. Last is Literature and it is very hard for me because I am not good at writing papers, and there is too much vocabulary to remember. Anyways, I should save some of the talking for dinner. Wish you the best. Your friend, Angelina

We discussed literature at the library yesterday. After that, you gave me your phone number. Hu Hui Qing: Ah, I remember. You’re a fan of Mo Yan, right? Fu Cong Ming: That’s right! I want to meet again sometime. Maybe this weekend? Hu Hui Qing: Okay, I’m not busy this weekend. Where do you want to go? Fu Cong Ming: Well, the weather has been nice lately. How about the park? Hu Hui Qing: That sounds nice. When should we meet? Fu Cong Ming: How about this Saturday at 11 AM? Hu Hui Qing: Perfect! I'm looking forward to it. -- at the park -Fu Cong Ming: Hi, Hui Qing. It’s a lovely day, don’t you agree? Hu Hui Qing: Yes, the sky is so clear and blue. The park has such a peaceful atmosphere. *looks down at picnic* Oh, what a lovely picnic! I can’t believe you did all this for me. Fu Cong Ming: Oh, it was nothing. I just wanted us to have a nice lunch together. Hu Hui Qing: You’re too kind. Well, let’s see what you packed. Fu Cong Ming: I brought sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, quiche, iced tea, wine, and so on. Hu Hui Qing: Wow, thank you so much! -- sits -Hu Hui Qing: Fu Cong Ming, have you finished choosing your classes for next semester? Fu Cong Ming: I have chosen an American History class and a political science class. As for the other two, I haven’t decided. What about you? Hu Hui Qing: I’ve already chosen three courses: Chinese, chemistry, and finance. I don’t think I could handle four courses because I have a job on the side. Fu Cong Ming: Wow, that’s a lot of work. I would be so tired all the time. How do you do it? Hu Hui Qing: Actually, it’s not that difficult. I wake up an hour early to prepare for my classes and go to work after my classes. After work, I’m usually tired, so I go to bed as soon as I get home. Fu Cong Ming: That still sounds a little difficult. Where do you work? Hu Hui Qing: I work at the campus coffee shop. Fu Cong Ming: Really? Maybe I’ll come visit you at work sometime. Hu Hui Qing: I would be very happy to see you. Can I ask you what your favorite thing to do is? Fu Cong Ming: I have a favorite hobby, but I don’t normally tell people. Hu Hui Qing: Come on, you can tell me. I won’t laugh. Fu Cong Ming: I like to dance, especially the waltz. Dancing is both fun and good for my health. Hu Hui Qing: That’s very interesting! I wouldn’t have been able to tell from looking at you. We need to go dancing together later. Fu Cong Ming: That sounds great! Now, let’s eat lunch. Would you like a sandwich? Hu Hui Qing: Okay. What kind of sandwich is it? Fu Cong Ming: Egg salad Hu Hui Qing: Egg salad! I can’t believe you eat animal products! Do you know how they treat the animals, and how bad it is for the environment?! No wonder I had a strange feeling about you. I’m breaking up with you. Fu Cong Ming: Oh no! I apologize! I didn’t know you don’t eat animal products! Please don’t be angry with me! Hu Hui Qing: IT’S TOO LATE TO APOLOGIIIIIIZE. IT’S TOO LAAAATE. Our interests are not the same. Goodbye! [walks away] Fu Cong Ming: One minute she was here, and the next she was gone! I want to cry.
