Aloha La Pietra ‘Ohana, Each school year, we seek to cultivate the practice of kahiau, a selfless generosity of spirit and service to others. Our Annual Report honors this tradition of kahiau by recognizing the remarkable generosity of the many dedicated families, alumnae, friends and community partners who support La Pietra’s vision of educating young women for a life of achievement. Mahalo nui loa to all who have supported La Pietra – Hawaii School for Girls over the past 50 years and, most particularly, the 2014 – 2015 Golden Anniversary Year. This belated report highlights more than the sum of the school’s fundraising success. It is confirmation of your confidence in the continuing success or our mission. We are proud of our legacy of educating young women in an exceptional, girl-centered learning environment where each student can find her own unique voice. Our girls continue to rise to the challenges of a strong college preparatory curriculum as they pursue the many leadership opportunities available through our extra curricular programs and ILH team sports. The achievements of La Pietra students are recognized beyond the walls of our beautiful campus. The Class of 2015 received over 140 college acceptances and garnered more than $4.7 million in merit scholarships. The future continues to look bright for the next generation of La Pietra graduates and we could not be more proud of them. This 2014–2015 Annual Report records the donors who helped us achieve the lofty goals that we set for our 50th anniversary year. We are grateful for the 100 percent participation of our Board of Trustees and the faculty and staff in our Annual Fund campaign. Current parents’ support of the Annual Fund grows stronger each year and we are so pleased with the ever-increasing participation of alumnae and their families. We are immensely grateful for all gifts, large and small. Not only do donations to the Annual Fund help bridge the gap between tuition charges and the actual cost of educating each student; these contributions demonstrate the unwavering support of our own La Pietra ‘ohana. Mahalo and Aloha,

Mahina Eleneki Hugo Head of School

Board Chair Letter Aloha, Family and Friends of La Pietra, As I reminisce over our 50th anniversary, I’m happy to have this opportunity to thank all who participated in a most successful celebration of a half-century of educating young women in Hawai‘i. The support and generosity of trustees, faculty, staff, families, alumnae and friends is difficult to quantify, but we know that without your commitment, perseverance and power of persuasion we could not have met the lofty goals that we set for this milestone year. The HOOPLA goal for the 50th was a dream we prayed would come true and it did! The hardworking Committee and the generous donors and bidders who put us over the top cannot be thanked enough…by us, or by the numerous students who will benefit from financial aid. The beauty and excitement of HOOPLA was more than matched by the enthusiasm and generosity of our patrons and guests. Our most heartfelt thanks go to all who contributed to HOOPLA’s extraordinary success. The Annual Fund continues to grow each year, with trustees, faculty and staff once again at 100% participation. Our parents and alumnae have increased their support and will, we are confident, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. Every institution identifies with its beneficiaries and the alumnae are La Pietra–HSG’s proudest legacy. To those who are already supporting the Annual Fund, thank you, and to those who are not yet able, we look forward to the day that your names will be on our donor list. Many have given much and a few have soared beyond anyone’s wildest expectations. Without the extreme generosity of these angels much of what we have, both tangible and intangible, would not be. To you, the true believers, our hearts overflow with gratitude. This is also our opportunity to express the Board of Trustees’ appreciation to Head of School, Mahina Hugo and the extraordinary group of teachers and staff that are the life-blood of La Pietra. Not only do our girls have the opportunity to learn from the best and the brightest, they are able to do so in a beautiful and well-maintained campus, unlike any other in Hawai‘i. We look back at the past 50 years with loving nostalgia to Hawaii School for Girls and it’s metamorphosis into the institution of strength and beauty that is La Pietra. It has been my privilege to serve with an outstanding and supportive Board and I know that the Trustees join me in expressing pride in, and appreciation for, all who have made contributions of time, expertise, money and love over the long life of our beloved school.

Alice Guild Chair, Board of Trustees

Giving to La Pietra This year’s results reflect the unwavering generosity that La Pietra’s community has for the school. Thank you to everyone who helped to ensure that our students have opportunities to learn and grow. TOTAL GIVING FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS 2012 – 2013*  $2,480,591

La Pietra’s Special Events La Pietra’s two flagship special events, HOOPLA and Sunset Jazz, set fundraising records. Mahalo to our supporters, donors, and volunteers who helped to make these magical evenings so successful.

HOOPLA 2015 – HOOPLA GOLD: 50 YEARS For decades HOOPLA has been one of the premiere fundraising events in Honolulu. HOOPLA was one of the first to incorporate an auction into its event and was also the first to use electronic bidding for all facets of the program. All proceeds from HOOPLA support La Pietra’s financial aid program, which provides tuition assistance for families who would not otherwise be able to attend our school.
