Chinese New Year

It can be quite easy to go over your calorie count during the Holidays. No wonder our jeans don’t fit in January!

Starting as early as September, we consume excessive sugar with all the candy and pumpkin spice goodies. Not only is it bad for our waistline, but our health can be put in hazard as well.

Every party we go to is a smörgåsbord of appetizers, fatty cheeses and charcuterie boards and alcoholic beverages.

Can we be healthy during the Holidays?

Here are some tips:

1. Choose only things that are worth it (do not binge on chips and salsa. Eat that baked brie with cranberries instead)

2. Ditch having seconds.

3. Sit away from the buffet table or the food table. Sit as far as you can (at least walk a good distance to the appetizers).

4. Drink water. Sometimes we eat because we are dehydrated.

5. Stay away from drinks like eggnog or syrupy cocktails. Stick to wine, hard seltzers or light beer.

6. If there is dancing at the party, dance away your calories.

7. Make sure you eat veggies. Potato chips and dips are tempting, but celery sticks, and carrots can be delicious too.

8. It is ok to overeat at parties occasionally. Just make sure you get back on track during the rest of the week. Hit the gym, walk it off, eat healthy. The new year is just around the corner. You want to start it in good health.
