CHURCH SERVICES The St Jean-Baptiste de Montvalezan church is open every Thursday from 4pm to 6pm, from the 6th of July to the 31st of August. For church service at the Jean-Paul II chapel in La Rosière and the St Jean-Baptiste church in Montvalezan, please see the weekly programme available at the tourist offices and on sign boards.
MARKET AND LOCAL PRODUCE Market held every Thursday in La Rosière Centre. “Le Club des Jours Heureux” retirement club: sale of homemade local produce every Thursday from 9am to 12noon in front of the Tourist Office in La Rosière Centre (from the 6th July to the 31st August).

SOME VALUABLE ADVICE The mountains are an outstanding playground for children to discover, but to ensure that your little ones can explore in safety, here is some valuable advice: The sun is very strong at altitude, so make sure you always wear a hat, sunglasses and sun cream. When you go out walking, every member of your family should wear walking shoes or trainers (not sandals or flip flops) and bring an extra layer of clothing (jumper or light jacket) because the temperature can change very quickly, as can the weather, so take along a rain coat in a small rucksack too. You might also need an energy boost, so pack a snack and enough water to keep the whole family hydrated. Follow our advice and your whole family is sure to have an amazing time exploring the Alps!

Les Galopins In summer, Les Galopins offers free childcare for children aged 3 to 12 years in its specially-equipped kids’ club in La Rosière Centre. A wide variety of activities are organised throughout the week, both indoors and outdoors: little ones can go meet the St Bernard dogs, have their face painted, bake a cake, pick some blueberries or try their hand at tennis, while older children can take part in fun treasure hunts & nature walks to learn about the wildlife and their surroundings. Opening times: For children aged 3 to 12 years: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 12noon and from 2pm to 5.30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 5.30pm
A detailed programme of the week’s activities is presented every Sunday evening during the welcome meeting organised by La Rosière Tourist Office (held in front of the Tourist Office in La Rosière Centre). Certain activities run by resort professionals are payable.
HOW TO SIGN UP You can sign your child up for Kids’ Club activities in resort: On Sunday evening, after the welcome meeting – from 7pm to 8pm. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings – from 9am to 12noon. For children aged 3 to 12 years, you can choose: 1 full day and/or 3 half-days over the course of the week, with the option of adding extra days if places are available. LE PLAN DE L’ARC In summer, La Rosière boasts a large, natural leisure area with everything you need for a great family day out. With postcard-worthy views, this green space has a playground, multi-sports pitch, skate park, football pitch and boules pitch to keep everyone entertained, whatever their age. Younger children will have a great time playing on the swings or slide and paddling in the stream, which runs through the specially-equipped picnic area (with barbecues). A new water feature will also be available for your children to enjoy. More daring individuals can tackle the climbing rock or you can also try your hand at archery (payable activity, see page 33). The Plan de l’Arc is a unique area where you can relax and have fun, just around the corner from Les Eucherts.

Projects in pro gress VILLAGES
The resort of La Rosière is built upon areas of Alpine pasture dotted with highaltitude rustic chalets. The resort has been developed gradually, primarily by the inhabitants of Montvalezan and its villages. Unlike other resorts in the area, La Rosière’s development has been spread over many years, meaning that the resort has preserved its unique atmosphere and has managed to ensure that its new buildings blend into the Alpine setting.
LA ROSIERE, A VILLAGE IN BLOOM The resort obtained a second “Villes et Villages Fleuris” flower. This classification is awarded for the quality of the summer flower displays in French towns and villages, but also recognises the commune’s commitment to sustainable development. All projects that promote the respect and protection of nature are considered.

PROJECTS Very early on, the commune established a “Molok” rubbish system (sunken waste containers) so that waste could be sorted and recycled. Today, La Rosière’s various neighbourhoods have a total of 29 “Molok” waste containers. But that is not all: the commune pays great attention to its visual environment, which is why these waste containers are clad in stone. To decorate the resort, we try to plant flowers in large flower beds as opposed to small pots. This approach is not only more natural, but it also means that the flowers are free to bud again in the spring.
ON THE SLOPES ISO 14001 environmental standard: • Pocket ashtrays handed out free of charge at the lift pass offices, bottom of the lifts, ski patrol office, Tourist Office, etc. • Protected site for grouse just above Putétruit. • Post-season litter-picking day, organised in partnership with the Mountain Riders Association. • Automatic re-seeding of the slopes where work has been carried out, in order to preserve the flora and natural features of the land. • Raising awareness among holidaymakers and inhabitants, to encourage them not to drop litter.

MOUNTAIN BIKING MOUNTAIN BIKING FOR EVERYONE! Cross-country MTB Follow trail No.8, which takes you around the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass via the Fort de La Redoute Ruinée (accessible by riding up the mountain on the Roches Noires chairlift), or go off and explore the hamlets and chapels of Montvalezan with a ride through the villages, and drink in the views as you ride up to resort on the Ecudets chairlift. If you want to go further afield, follow the Moulins trail or the more challenging Suée trail, riding past the rustic chalets in Putétruit, Plan Pigeux and the Vaz (ride back up the mountain on the Ecudets chairlift). Downhill MTB: Challenging but suitable for everyone: Rosière’s bike zone can be accessed using the Roches Noires and Ecudets chairlifts (open Sunday to Thursday) and has various levels, from beginner to expert. Two MTB schools also hire out equipment (bike and safety gear) and offer guided bike rides with qualified instructors. Make the most of the high-altitude trails, drink in the panoramic views, and tackle the most technically-demanding trail down through the stunning Ecudets forest (1,200m downhill drop from the top of Roches Noires!). Pick up our bike trail and bike park (including the Bike Zone park) map from one of the Tourist Offices.
ELECTRIC BIKES For a ride down the MTB trails or around La Rosière village, the resort’s bike hire shops now offer electric mountain bikes. Give one a try and explore the mountainside with minimum-effort!

WALKING & HIKING SEEZ Explore Séez and the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass. The village of Séez, just 18 km from La Rosière, is well worth a visit. It is linked to the resort by Les Ecudets chairlift.

THE COL DU PETIT SAINT-BERNARD Ever since it was built in the 11th century by Saint Bernard de Menthon, the Hospice has been a place where travellers are given a warm welcome and invited in to rest. Partially destroyed during the Second World War, the Hospice is once again open to visitors. Séez hiking paths are integrated on the trail map of La Rosière.

LA THUILE Once you have passed through the Petit Saint-Bernard pass, drive down into the resort of La Thuile, which is framed by the Ruitor and Mont Blanc massifs. Steeped in Valdotain tradition, La Thuile is one of the Aosta Valley’s most authentic villages. The architecture of its houses is characteristic of Alpine villages. The houses and buildings are built in wood and stone, as they have always been, with roofs covered in distinctive “perdre” stone slabs, which can only be found in the Aosta and Tarentaise Valleys. Stop off to explore the Ruitor waterfalls or the silver and coal mine trails.

Pick up a map of the hiking trails and footpaths from the Tourist Office. This year, the map includes the footpaths around La Rosière-Montvalezan as well as those in Séez and La Thuile. Combe des Moulins, Lac du Retour, Chemin des Ecoliers, Voie Romaine… there are so many different hiking trails for you to discover!
