At Latest TV we have a language school student from Belgium currently working with us and I asked her to tell me a little about her life and what she thinks of Brighton. Here is what she wrote.... “Hey Bill, my name is Linh. I originally come from Vietnam. My mother surely went: ‘Why wouldn't I give birth on Christmas Eve in a hospital in Vietnam?’. So, here I am. But from the age of just one month old, I was brought up in Belgium with my brother. And from then on, one thing is certain, my lifestyle would not have been the same. Mayor Pete West “I am pleased to be a Belgian girl, though I wonder sometimes, how my lifestyle would have been if I had not been brought up in Belgium. We all come from different ways, we all have different cultures, we are all different but after all, we are all humans. “And what keeps us strong is that, we are able to share those different customs and habits. Who knows what would occur next? We have to try to get the best thing from our life. Everything can happen. Everything changes. In a few years, we are probably going to end up surrounded by robots and spaceships. “I am among those teenagers in this new generation and beyond being able to use our smartphones really well, we have thoughts. Nowadays, apart from discussing about Brexit, the new one pound coin or even Trump orange face, one thing which really affects me are the attacks. We are so vulnerable, more soldiers and more police officers just gives us an image that makes us feel more protected which, in my opinion, is not efficient.

evelopment studio Fat Fish Games was established by David Lane, Jonasson Lochner and Anthony Barker. David and Jonas had been classmates on the same Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence course at Sussex, both graduating in 2004. Anthony joined and also co­founded the business, having known Jonasson since secondary school in 1994. The studio, established in 2013, has had a number of successes with games and apps for platforms including Apple iOS, Google Android, Facebook and Windows Mobile. The latest creation, Tiny Striker: World Football, has seen an immense uptake in downloads since its launch in February. Taking just under one week to reach 1 million downloads, the app reached the dizzying heights of the #1 sports game in over 46 countries!

Sales figures for the mobile app (a free­to­play, fast­paced, action­packed football game) now eclipse 1.6 million. David, the company’s Managing Director, described this as “a massive achievement for a game”. "We’ve taken what made our previous 2D Tiny Striker game so appealing and added a variety of depth, including a league­based level structure, and the ability to share match highlights to other players around the world." espite the fact that the Chancellor only mentioned housing once in his recent Budget speech, anyone investing rental properties knows that it remains very much the elephant in the room. The next tax year will be a crucial one for landlords, with many changes announced in the Housing White Paper starting to hit. Let’s take a look at three of these – and then reveal a simple solution to the complexities and risks that landlords face. 1. Taxation and Section 24 Section 24 of the Finance (No.2) Act 2015 starts in the 2017­18 tax year. It will gradually reduce landlords’ opportunities to offset their mortgage interest costs against their rental profits when calculating tax payable. Simply put: landlords are to be taxed on their income, not their actual profit. Sole trader landlords will inevitably feel the full force of this, reliant as they are on mortgage finance for house purchases. 2. The Housing and Planning Act This Bill introduces complex new regulations that will affect all landlords. This type of onerous legislation makes compliance a potential nightmare for landlords struggling to keep up with understanding, let alone meeting, the new demands. 3. Implementation of the PRA The Prudential Regulation Authority’s recommendations are now in full effect. They require that landlords seeking to borrow face stricter due diligence and a higher “stress test” for calculating how much they can borrow. This means landlords will probably have to put up significantly larger deposits. I estimate that the average deposit for Brighton will need to be as high as 40%. Is there such a thing as guaranteed rent in the year ahead? As landlords’ lives get more complex by the minute it can seem easy to forget that when you started to invest in property you thought it would be a simple way to earn money.
