ello all and welcome to our first issue of 2019. We have some new things happening this year for our readership.
To begin, please take a look at the front cover again. You will see images of various countries with logos of trade shows in each. Why? Because Aftermarket International has distribution at everyone of them, either our English or Spanish editions. We are showing this to promote how truly global our brand has become over the years.

To be precise, here they are alphabetically, with the frequency of each Automechanika Dubai Annual Automechanika INA PAACE Annual Automechanika Istanbul Annual Autopromotec Bi-Annual The Latin Auto Parts Expo Annual ReMaTec Bi-Annual Each of these shows has a 1-2 page article on them in this issue.
Take a look at the 2 page photo spread of the Overseas Automotive Council (OAC) get together in Las Vegas. This was held at a very interesting wax museum on Tuesday night, the first night of last year’s AAPEX show. A great time was had by all, though the wax figures are so lifelike it is a bit creepy. Our two technical articles this month are: • Mike Cargill of Transtar Industries Inc. discusses the transmission industry and how it relates to some new developments by General Motors and Ford Motor Co. • Ara Mansourian of Diesel Parts of America informs us about Fuel Injection systems, specifically remanufactured electronic diesel fuel injectors.

The remanufacturing industry for fuel injectors has expanded and evolved considerably in recent years — and its rapid growth has caused some misconception of what, exactly, remanufacturing is. Here, we share what goes into the remanufacturing process—and why it’s so popular today.
The Remanufacturing Process For Fuel Injectors
& Why It’s Getting So Popular by Ara Mansourian, Diesel Parts of America
T
he remanufacturing cycle is the process of reviving and restoring used parts and—when it is necessary— replacing worn out parts to become equivalent of, or better than, the original part. The key in this process is significantly changing performance. Some businesses do not sell used, second-hand, rebuilt, repaired or refurbished injectors; instead, many may remanufacture them, and this process maintains the intrinsic value of the product at the highest possible level, providing the same or better performance as the original injector. In fact, remanufacturing guarantees high-quality results for a new life cycle and provides a product that can be remarketed at a profitable price—if the entire injector, and not just a part of it, is scrutinized and renewed. A key step in the remanufacturing process is core receipt, a step that many people refer to as the “core cost” or “core charge.” (It can also be referred to as “core investment.) It is imperative 6
Aftermarket International
to recoup the money invested into a core by making sure they are returned for credit in a timely manner by customers. When successfully developed and implemented, core management is the lifeblood of the remanufacturing industry. In fact, remanufacturing products, instead of providing new units, is often seen by the end customer as the best alternative and the best value proposition, with typical savings of 50 percent or more when compared to OEM products. So, what is an acceptable core? Injectors, for example, are more sensitive than most other engine products—such as an alternator or a cylinder head—so a core-acceptance policy must be carefully followed. Cores must be in reasonably good and in repairable condition. Every core needs to be visually inspected by the customer. Cores must be packaged and protected very well, to prevent any damage during transportation which would make the core unrepairable.
April 2019

MARK ON CARD NO. 562
Unacceptable Cores 1. Visually damaged cores, such as broken housing, excessively rusty or pitted nozzle, broken plunger, broken tip, cracked retainer or damage to any other major component. 2. Any injector that has been disassembled or physically altered in any way. 3. Cores that are incomplete or missing any component. (Some damaged components can be repaired or replaced at additional cost, but not all. When components are found to be missing or damaged, the customer should be notified in advance of the additional repair cost, and if the customer gives approval, proceed with the remanufacturing process.)
THE PRICE ADVANTAGE The typical price for a remanufactured injector can be as much as 50 percent less than the price of a new injector. And if you supply your cores, the savings can be even greater. This provides a distinct pricing advantage without giving up quality or warranty coverage, which is welcome news to most owners of trucks, tractors and all types of construction equipment. A reduction in the running cost of operating the diesel engine can lead to higher margins or more profitability. THE CORE RETURN For many, the core return is a scary and difficult proposition. There has always been a stigma with core return; however, these fears are unfounded. Because cores have value and can be remanufactured and sold again and again, they maintain a high residual value. When a customer realizes the value of the cores they have—even when considering shipping costs— customers soon realize it is well worth sending in a core to be remanufactured. If you are located outside of the U.S., many parts companies will provide you with specific instructions on how to send your cores to minimize unnecessary expenses and delays by U.S. Customs and other authorities. WHY AND HOW REMANUFACTURING IS GROWING The U.S. is one of the world’s largest producers, consumers, and exporters of remanufactured goods in almost every industry. This extends to cylinder heads, turbos, fuel pumps, alternators, starters, and many other spare parts. Remanufacturing was created to overcome resource limitations and scarcity, and is good for the environment as fewer products end up in landfills. Lucas Electric was one of the first to begin the remanufacturing process in 1940s—a direct result of demand created by World War II. Today, many manufacturers design and build their products with the expectation that the products will be remanufactured, so the material used can be reused within normal production process. This is also known as a circular economy, which adds to the value of the products produced. What’s more, a circular economy secures a sustainable economy. WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE DIESEL INJECTOR INDUSTRY? Obviously, gasoline is a fluid, too. But it’s always fresh, right? It’s easy to predict large growth in trim-coded injectors for 8
Aftermarket International
Key Steps THE REMANUFACTURING PROCESS: 1. Disassembling. Cores are disassembled completely, down to the smallest components. (Some injectors have as many as 42 components.) These components are all sorted. 2. Cleaning. Components that are deemed useable are placed through automated cleaning equipment. Some core components require more thorough and manual cleaning. 3. Parts Qualification and Inspection. Next, every component—from filters, screens, O-rings, buttons, shims, screws—should be inspected and replaced with brand new parts. The remaining components— such as the nozzle, plunger, control valve, and solenoid—typically do not need to be replaced and have plenty of remaining life. If they “stopped” working, in most cases, it is because another component gave out and caused the injector to stop delivering fuel at its premium and required level. 4. Replacing with New Parts. A remanufactured component fulfills the same function as the original component. When all the parts are qualified, replaced and readjusted, they are submitted to the final test to ensure that they function like a new component. The test makes sure that nozzles are placed through an intrusion honing process, pop-tested and flow metered, for accurate fuel flow and delivery; and solenoids are cleaned and tested carefully, making sure they receive the exact amount of electricity for pulsation. 5. Reassembling. After having every injector core go through the aforementioned process, all the components are reassembled. Some components may also be put through heat treatment and blackoxide for longer life. 6. Testing. Injectors should be tested on various and specialized test benches. If an injector does not meet the flow test, delivery performance and calibration valuations, it is disassembled to find and correct the faulty component. After an injector passes the test, the test results for that injector are saved for the duration of the warranty. 7. Marking. The injectors can obtain a unique lasermarking—engraving the part number and an internal remanufacturing code—for future reference.
optimum fuel delivery and fuel economy. (Many Caterpillar injectors now require a trim-code etched on injectors.) This enables injectors to have more even fuel delivery in an engine, resulting in better fuel consumption. ransmissions are complex and co-dependent mechanisms. A transmission’s unique composition may reflect early design or the collaboration between competing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), but there always seem to be differences. Now, charging into this complexity is Ford Motor Company, with the concept of creating a new front-wheel drive design— and doing it in partnership with General Motors Propulsion. This is not the first time these two companies have worked together, but it may be their most complicated partnership yet. Somewhat surprising, considering they have been competing with one another for almost a century!

The point of the eight-speed transmissions for front wheel drive vehicles—and in the case of GM, a nine-speed transmission—is the ultimate pursuit of fuel efficiency. Fuel efficiency is of the utmost importance today…and if you don’t believe it, try looking for a spare tire the next time you buy a new car. Vehicles are no longer being built with only one market in mind, but with regional sales goals and modular design, allowing for broad usage in multiple applications.

In creating the eight-speeds, Ford has decided to do something never done before: They launched three new transmission platforms in new vehicles in the same calendar year. Horse racing has the trifecta, hockey has the hat trick, and whatever you want to call it in transmissions, the accomplishment is a significant engineering, manufacturing, and marketing achievement. As the title of the article suggests, “three times a charm”. The new three series are listed under the 8F naming convention, and are small, medium and large. Each platform is mated to an appropriate sized engine and vehicle for model years beginning in 2019. The small is the 8F24; the medium 8F35, and the large 8F57. The 8F24 is designed for engines with torque loads to 240 Nm. This is a unique design by Ford and was not developed in cooperation with GM. The 8F35 is the brainchild of Ford’s collaboration with GM on their GF9 platform, and this unit is designed for use in vehicles up to 350 Nm of engine torque. Lastly, the 8F57 is the next generation of the joint development of the 6F50 and 6T70 platforms between Ford and GM. GM opted to use nine Visit melling.com • 800-777-8172 gears in the GF9 front wheel drive platform to allow for smoother gear ratio transitions. When Tom Trosin | TTrosin@melling.com Ford tested the design for the eight-speed, it ended up with a large ratio step between the 2-3 and 3-4. This is a result of reusing the 6F50 series planetary designs. Although this was a 0.45 ratio change, it didn’t affect the fuel The valve bodies for the 8F series are based in the design for economy or durability of the unit in testing. The direct copy of the design allowed Ford to use 8F35 and 8F57. a unique selectable OWC. There are even two different ways of activation: 8F24 and 8F57 are electric, while 8F35 is hydraulic. The largest part of the fuel efficiency gain is found in the use of remote pumps and in their specific design per torque platform. The 8F24 utilizes a variable vane design. The 8F35 features a binary vane pump and is the same as is found in the GM mid-range GF9 platform. The 8F57 uses a variable vane pivoting pump, which is common with the large GF9 platform and proven in the 6F50 platform. The vehicles with the new 8F platforms all have start-stop

devices. They have overlap between the 8F24 and 8F35. The smaller series use an external accumulator type, which is the same as GM uses in the GF9 platform. The 8F57 has an internal electric pump very similar to the start-stop pump in the 10R transmission. The accumulator type costs less, but the electric type has more flexibility in how it is used. In the end, Ford had design decisions to make when working with GM on this joint venture unit. By going with eight speeds instead of nine, Ford eliminated the C4 clutch. It reduced weight, loss of efficiency, and overall cost. By doing so, Ford had to make shift ratio and timing decisions that made a useable 4th gear unavailable. It also meant that the 2-3 step is quite small, and the transmission will often run as a seven-speed unit instead of an eight-speed platform. Ford also chose to use the 10R platform’s torque converter design. This is called the ITC or integrated torque converter. This particular torque converter has three fluid channels instead of two, has integrated functional components, and applies the torque converter clutch toward the hub impeller assembly instead of toward the cover. This is more challenging to control, but it saves space and weight. Again, fuel efficiency is the overriding goal! Ford also chose to redesign the main controls, which include the valve bodies and oil pump assemblies. This redesign allowed for the use of the common 10R software platform, reduced the amount of valves required to achieve hydraulic control, and streamlined the process into a common design amongst all 8F series units. The expedited delivery of all three platforms has created a surprising opportunity for Ford. They intend to allow these units to carry them through the next few years as they heavily invest in more electrified vehicles. As a global manufacturer, they are serving mature and emerging markets the world over. Outside of North America, the audience for the electric powertrain is required due to rapidly evolving local regulations. Ford, GM and other OEMs are heavily investing in electric. The 8F is the latest series that will help Ford get there. For more information contact Mike Cargill of Transtar mcargill@transtar1.com

very year the Overseas Automotive Council (OAC) has a reception on the first night of AAPEX, which is always a Tuesday. 2018 was no exception. The event was held at Madame Tussauds, which is part of the Venetian hotel. For those who have never been to a wax museum, you really should include on your bucket list. The celebrities are unbelievably lifelike. It’s awesome to behold and perhaps a bit frightening too. I half expected the Daniel Craig figure to say to me “Bond, James Bond” but no such luck. On the following pages are pictures from the evening. A fun time was had by all. As an OAC sponsor ourselves, Aftermarket International would like to thank the following companies without whose participation the Global Reception would not have taken place: Bosch, Champion Laboratories, Cloyes Gear & Products, Elgin World Trade, EMG International, Federal-Mogul Motorparts, FramGroup, Gates Corp., MW Group, Mann & Hummel Filtration International Sales, Melling World Trade, OEC Group, Onix, Temel Gaskets, Tracer Products and TrakMotive.

FLUORO-LITE® 5 dye is also co-solvent free and manufactured using OEM-Grade materials, so it can be safely added to the vehicle system and it won’t affect chemical properties or change how the equipment works. This means the dye can remain indefinitely within the system for ongoing 24/7 leak detection. FLUOROLITE® 5 dye is co-solvent free and manufactured using OEM-Grade materials. Messe Frankfurt Sets New Sales Record Messe Frankfurt is expecting sales to be in the region of ¤715 million. The 490-plus events held around the world under the Messe Frankfurt umbrella were attended by almost 102,000 exhibitors and an estimated 4.5 million visitors. Peter Feldmann, Chairman of the Messe Frankfurt Supervisory Board and Mayor of Frankfurt, was delighted at the outstanding figures: “As the majority shareholder, we are proud to have a company like Messe Frankfurt in our investment portfolio.” The close historical ties between the city of Frankfurt and Messe Frankfurt have always led to advancements on both sides, not least through the economic effects generated by the events in Frankfurt and throughout the region. In 2018, around 54 percent of overall sales – approximately ¤385 million – can be attributed to the company’s Frankfurt base. As Mayor Feldmann stressed: “Messe Frankfurt generated almost ¤424 million in Germany alone. This is a new record and is roughly equivalent to the overall sales recorded by the next largest German competitors in the past.” Messe Frankfurt continued to build on its leading position in the international trade fair and exhibition sector. On presenting the Group’s preliminary top figures for 2018, Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Messe Frankfurt, said: “We have further 24

globalised our brands and stepped up the pace of our worldwide acquisition activities. At almost 150 trade fairs, some 102,000 exhibitors – more than ever before – put their trust in us and invested in interaction formats. Messe Frankfurt is a pillar of strength in the fast-moving digital age.” The strong operating business in the past financial year has also yielded record financial figures. Wolfgang Marzin: “We expect to generate consolidated sales of around ¤715 million, which will be the highest level of sales in Messe Frankfurt’s history to date and, at the same time, the highest ever generated by a German trade fair company.” This is an increase of around seven percent on its previous record year 2017. New records were set in annual net income with some ¤59 million and in EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) with approximately ¤133 million. As Wolfgang Marzin emphasised: “We have an expansion strategy tailored specially towards the Group and are taking it resolutely to the next level. A key USP for Messe Frankfurt is its first-class global network.” Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, noted: “It is essential to have a target to aim for and, in volatile times such as these, a steady hand. We have achieved this with a new exhibitor record of 102,000 companies and an estimated 4.5 million visitors at our international platforms. I for one firmly believe that the success of our work is best measured in terms of people, who are the focus of everything we do.” The international component at Group events in Frankfurt has also increased. “Roughly 78 percent of our exhibitors and 56 percent of visitors come to Frankfurt from outside Germany”, said Detlef Braun. With regard to the operating business, he explained: “There is no doubt that there is a need for face-to-face contact – in fact, the key is to find an intelligent way to bring the analogue and digital worlds together. In this connection, we are pulling out all the stops to prime our events for the future.” Messe Frankfurt makes ongoing and sustainable investments in its events around the world, often doing so counter-cyclically to great effect. With Hall 12 in operation, our entire event portfolio in Frankfurt will be starting the new year with

optimised exhibition grounds concepts and clear hall structures, its sights set on further growth. Messe Frankfurt increasingly embraces technological advancements that have the capacity to bring about extensive changes and innovations throughout the industry sector worldwide. Uwe Behm, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, stated: “With Formnext and SPS, we have two events in the portfolio that illustrate Industry 4.0 in a particularly striking way. With some 280 guest events, capacity utilization at our Frankfurt base was also very good. The congress and conference business was a great success as well, with more than 170 events

playing host to 146,000 participants.” During the construction of the new Hall 5, Messe Frankfurt will be taking the opportunity to revitalise its Congress Center. Uwe Behm: “We have no doubt that this will result in further success for the congress and conference business while also increasing Frankfurt’s appeal as a conference centre.” Messe Frankfurt operates two congress venues at its Frankfurt base – the Congress Center and Kap Europa – as well as having over 90 congress and conference halls on its exhibition grounds. In 2018, the Kap Europa congress centre was booked out for the entire year. Uwe Behm: “Our Services business field has reported an extremely positive performance as well. With Messe Frankfurt Medien und Service GmbH and Accente Gastronomie Service GmbH, we are now generating sales in the region of ¤100 million.”

The Power of Wheel Bearings in Motorsports
SKF Wheel Bearing Kits All technology starts from fulfilling a non-civilian purpose until it opens doors for the consumer market. From SKF and Ferrari developing wheel bearings that are made from ceramic rollers with steel or titanium cages, this and other technologies have been adapted to fit passenger vehicles worldwide. With over 90 million cars using SKF wheel bearings, the trusted Swedish brand offers more than 1,000 kits from 1st to 3rd generation series plus accessories such as bolts, nuts, screws, etc. With its patented X-tracker for optimum performance, OE standard anti-lock braking system (ABS), and performance grease, its products are guaranteed to provide longer service

From Lewis Hamilton to Sebastian Vettel, top motorsports have been the benchmark of automotive innovation for decades. But how does a glamorous and celebrated event become the source of technical evolution in auto parts such as wheel bearings? As engineers are always on a quest for better technology in a fast, time bound, track setting, top automotive service providers such as SKF continuously develop their product range to suit a race car’s needs. With a partnership with Ferrari since 1947, SKF has been instrumental in many of its Formula 1 (F1) victories that were made legendary by famous race car drivers like Michael Schumacher. But what’s in an SKF wheel bearing anyway? It’s not just about the product. It’s about the service and technological innovation. life, less maintenance costs, and most importantly passenger safety. Take it from SKF’s Automotive Distributor in the Middle East “Apart from having a high resistance to angular pressure, F1 cars’ wheel bearings need to be durable, fast, and precise otherwise, any failure can cause fatality,” says Hassanein Alwan, Mineral Circles Bearings’ (MCB) Managing Director and in-house engineer. “Today, SKF, one of the leading original equipment (OE) manufacturers worldwide, have shared this precision technology with its wheel bearing kits for non-commercial vehicles,” he added. With an increased demand for 3rd generation wheel bearings by top brands such as Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, BMW,
and Hyundai, Alwan credits the Swedish manufacturer’s insatiable taste for innovation and service for both B2B and B2C clients. “SKF prides itself as a service provider. Apart from developing vehicle components for both OEM and aftermarket, it offers services as an added value to its customer base such as the SKF Mobile Apps, instructional videos, and other technical services. Since MCB is the pioneering automotive bearings specialist in the Middle East, our company is the perfect match for SKF as it further expands its presence in the region,” Alwan mentioned. Like Formula 1, MCB and SKF speed their way as they join forces to fulfill the ever changing automotive aftermarket demands of the entire Middle East.

Axletech Expands Remanufacturing Arm into Electronics & Mechatronics “As autonomy, electrification, and sustainable manufacturing become increasingly more important in the mobility sector, the industry will require experienced and knowledgeable complex electronics and mechatronics remanufacturing specialists,” says Raji El-Kassouf Raji El-Kassouf, director of business development, Remanufacturing, AxleTech. “With this new program, AxleTech will be able to provide customers with a viable, cost-effective option for quality remanufactured electronics and mechatronics, as well as ensure the serviceability of these products and help manage lifecycle costs.” AxleTech says it has remanufactured its axles and transfer cases for the off-highway and defense markets for 40 years and recently launched an air disc brake remanufacturing product line. To establish its new remanufacturing group, AxleTech hired a team of highly trained engineers, including Chief Engineer PT Muldoon, who has spent more than three decades working in the space. The expert team, based in Troy, Mich., will be responsible for technology development. One of the group’s first tasks was to create a new line of proprietary testers, which the company says will significantly reduce development time and improve the warranty feedback loop on emerging electronics and mechatronics technologies. These advanced machines evaluate cores to determine what repairs are needed and if the repairs are successful. The testers also confirm remanufactured products meet intended functional requirements, the company says. In addition to the testers, AxleTech says it installed new software, hardware, and facilities to remanufacture a wide range of these products. As a result, the company has the capabilities to remanufacture any product with a circuit board and a plug, such as anti-lock braking modules and transmission control modules, hybrid electronic systems, electronic throttle valves, mass air sensors, and electronic braking systems, among many others. This new remanufacturing capability will give AxleTech access to new OEM and Tier 1 customers and select independent channel distributors, the company states. Down the road, the company’s Electric Vehicle Systems (EVS) customers will be beneficiaries of this effort as AxleTech EVS products also are slated for remanufacturing. April 2019

Automechanika Shanghai Sees 15% Upswing in Attendees The 14th edition of Automechanika Shanghai, which took place Nov. 28 through Dec. 1, has recorded an unprecedented rise in attendees compared to the previous edition, show organizers have reported. Serving as a platform for both local and international players from the automotive parts, accessories, equipment and service sectors, final figures for the show suggest visitor attendance increased 15 percent compared to the 2017 show -- now reaching a total of 150,568. As Asia’s largest automotive trade fair, show organizers say they also received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants during the four-day period. For example, the brand new Tomorrow’s Service & Mobility area was able to shed light on the most exciting current and future developments of the industry, from digitalization and alternative drives, to autonomous driving and new mobility services. well as the returning REIFEN sector for the very latest tire, wheel and rim products. This year, a total of 57 fringe program events ran concurrently with the main show. Throughout the fairground, each event continued to receive high praise from industry experts who took part and presented their ideas and visions for the future of the industry. Many new fringe events also were welcomed for the first time this year, such as the debuting Tomorrow’s Service & Mobility Summit 2018 and the Automotive Aftermarket Summit 2018, both of which reflected the themes and trends across the showground. What’s more, a lot of positive feedback came from those in attendance, as there equally was across the entire show floor. Organizers for Automechanika Shanghai also noted an increase in international participation across the board. With 43 exhibiting countries and regions around the fairground, newcomers from Luxemburg joined the list of returning countries, along with the likes of the Czech Republic, Lebanon and Slovenia along with the other established overseas participants. Overseas visitors saw an upswing of 22 percent. Participants reported that this not only helped create new channels of communication for international buyers trading with Chinese firms, but also allowed for more business exchanges across other international exhibitors and buyers.

Transtar’s Exclusive Technology Has Remotely Programmed Over 10,000 Vehicles Transtar Industries, LLC, an integrated portfolio of companies that manufactures and globally distributes automotive aftermarket products and solutions, has an exclusive partnership with Drew Technologies, the industry leader in vehicle reprogramming, to offer their Remote Assisted Programming (RAP®) Kit. In the past, if a repair shop needed to reprogram a vehicle system as part of the repair process, they’d have to schedule an appointment at a local dealership and arrange to have their customer’s vehicle towed to the dealer. Or, a shop would need to purchase the expensive equipment and subscriptions required to program on their own and then keep up-to-date with training across multiple platforms and vehicle systems. With Transtar’s RAP® technology, shops can reprogram domestic and foreign cars in-house, on demand, without purchasing equipment or training requirements. Transtar’s RAP® equipment is free to qualifying customers and repair shops pay only for individual programming events, which are performed remotely by Drew Technologies’ expert technicians. This program has been an outstanding success with Transtar customers remotely programming over 10,000 vehicles to date – saving countless hours of time and money. The original RAP® Kit was released less than two years ago. The next generation, RAP®2, was recently released and will include the ability to program European vehicles very soon. The new RAP®2 technology will also enable an expansion of future service offerings that will include remote vehicle diagnostics.

RAI Amsterdam Launches a New ReMaTec Exhibition in China ReMaTec Asia, September 24-26, 2019 in Guangzhou, China, is a new addition of the expanding portfolio of ReMaTec. Guangzhou is located in the heart of China’s automotive industry. The event will be co-located with Auto Aftermarket Guangzhou (AAG), the largest exhibition for automotive aftermarket in South East China with 20,000+ visitors and 1,300 exhibitors. During a press conference at AAG 2018, RAI signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The Remanufacture Committee of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CPRA) and the leading Chinese exhibition organizer SINOMACHINT. Both organizations established a partnership with RAI Amsterdam, owner of the global ReMaTec brand. The Chinese remanufacturing infrastructure is preparing for substantial growth. There are an estimated 93.2 million passenger vehicles in China that are out of warranty. New sales keep rising as Chinese GDP has been advancing 6.7% year over year. Remanufactured parts are a reliable middle way between expensive original parts on one side and cheap inferior imitations on the other side. Niels Klarenbeek, Director of ReMaTec, believes ReMaTec Asia will be a great asset for international remanufacturing organizations looking to enter the Chinese remanufacturing market. “We now see opportunities in the Chinese domestic remanufacturing market because of multiple reasons”, says Klarenbeek. “Sustainability is taken seriously by the Central Government. There have been substantial investments in remanufacturing zones like Lingang (Shanghai area), Wuzhou (Guangxi Province), Hejian (Hebei Province) and of course Guangzhou (Guangdong Province). As the domestic remanufacturing industry is heading towards maturity, there will be a vast demand for cleaning, machining and diagnostic equipment, know-how and core management solutions. These are clear opportunities for the ReMaTec customer base in Europe and North America.”

ReMaTec 2019 Emphasizes the Remanufacturing Industry
H
eld from June 23-25, ReMaTec’s 2019 edition—at the RAI in Amsterdam, The Netherlands—promises to be even bigger than the last. Approximately 3,600 remanufacturing experts from around the world plan to attend this year’s event. The ReMaTec trade show spans 12,500 square meters, and many if not most remanufacturing company supplying to global passenger cars, LCV, heavy duty and non-road vehicles markets will be present, totaling more than 260 of the world’s leading companies. ReMaTec is held every other year. ReMaTec 2017, visitors saw more than an exhibition: A stronger-than-ever seminar program featured leaders and industry experts across multiple industries and throughout the European Union to talk about remanufacturing. Why remanufacturing? In a recent white paper ReMaTec wrote, in conjunction The Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA), the industry is emphasizing its sustainability and environmental consciousness. Daniel Koehler, chairman of APRA Europe, writes in the paper, “Remanufacturing has been called ‘the most sustainable business model’” because it combines “sound economic, environmental and social aspects.” Niels Klarenbeek, director of ReMaTec, adds that, “Consumers are more and more environmentally conscious, and so are car owners. Remanufactured parts and components save money and the environment, without any concession in terms of quality. It is no question that the consumer demand for ‘green’ replacement parts will rise considerably. This white paper helps aftermarket distributors getting a clear eye on the sustainable benefits of remanufactured parts and components.”

Autopromotec 2019 International Offers New, More Visitor-Friendly Layout
A
utopromotec, the biennial trade show for automotive equipment and aftermarket products, will be hosted May 22-26 at the Bologna Exhibition Center, Bologna, Italy. The event has been an important appointment for the automotive aftermarket for more than 50 years and has enjoyed continuous growth. At its 2017 edition, the show hosted 1,599 exhibitors and 58 brands represented, and welcomed 113,616 professionals. The 2017 show also saw an increase in international participation, with a more than 14 percent of professionals arriving from abroad—accounting for a total of 23,807 show visitors from outside of Italy. This year, Autopromotec will present a redefined product map and a even more user-friendly itinerary through the sectors of the automotive after-sales market. The new exhibition map offers better organized spaces, featuring areas dedicated to the different product sectors. This will make it easier for visitors to navigate the 162,000-squaremeters of floor space—4,000 square meters more than in 2017. There will be 580-plus product categories covering sub-sectors of the aftermarket. Thanks to the new layout, Autopromotec will see one of its distinctive features—being a “fair within a fair”—further strengthened. This is a unique aspect of the show that allows visitors to plan their visit based on specific professional interests. The positioning of other sectors will see no changes, however. Those sectors include spare parts; car washes; polyfunctional equipment; body repair; and equipment and products for
service stations. What’s more, at Autopromotec 2019, visitors can explore the latest innovations and trends that drive the aftermarket sector: technology linked to the world of automotive service; the technical skills necessary to keep up with the times; networked cars; the new needs of future mobility; changes that concern body repair shops; the latest developments in the tire and car wash businesses, and much more. Founded in 1965, Autopromotec is organized by Promotec, a services company owned by Associazione Italiana Ricostruttori Pneumatici (AIRP) and Associazione Italiana Costruttori Autoattrezzature (AICA). Through intensive promotional activities supported both at an institutional level and by trade associations, over the course of 27 editions Autopromotec has experienced a continued increase in international growth. Each edition of the event focuses great attention on training with Autopromotec EDU, a think tank dedicated to the analysis of the trade and to the most current and innovative topics regarding the automotive aftermarket. Aftermarket International has been distributed at this bi-annual show for the past 20 years! For more information, visit www.autopromotec.com.
