Where Fantasy Meets Reality

Giambattista Valli opens up in this exclusive Latitude interview, revealing his evolution as a designer and his love of now and tomorrow.

Your designs have always been celebrated for their timeless elegance and romanticism. How has your creative vision evolved over the years, and what continues to inspire and drive your passion for fashion today?

Absolutely, there’s constant evolution. Every moment sparks new ideas. Each collection is like a new chapter in a novel, all part of a larger story, which is Giambattista Valli. While I stay true to my vision and to my clients, each collection brings something fresh, a new story, a new inspiration. Right now, the present inspires me deeply. The ‘now’ is where we can actively shape the future. I believe the past offers cultural reference, but I don’t look back nostalgically. I always think tomorrow can be better, but it’s the present where we can create that future.

Your Ready-to-Wear Spring-Summer 2025 collection is titled Very Valli. Could you share with us your vision for the collection and the major elements that define it?

This is a moment of historical complexity, a time marked by confusion and transition. People are searching, trying to understand what comes next. In such moments, I believe the best approach is to remain deeply faithful to oneself. I always tell the women who come to me: stay true to who you are. Don’t imitate or become a parody of someone else. Instead, look inward. Everyone carries beauty within themselves - it’s about discovering it, working on it and bringing it to light. I apply this philosophy to my own work. This collection reflects that fidelity to myself

while moving forward. It’s about honouring my signature elements - the Giambattista Valli red, the pinks, the contrasts in proportion: flat shoes alongside towering heels, sleek silhouettes paired with voluminous shapes. All these elements come together like a symphony that is unmistakably Valli, yet always evolving.

The collection is deeply inspired by Milan Kundera’s concept of “The Unbearable Lightness of Being.” How do you express this balance between lightness and weight in your designs?

Being creative doesn’t mean isolating yourself in an ivory tower, detached from what’s happening in the world around you. It’s essential to remain connected to reality, to wake up every day and create, even when it feels challenging. Some friends of mine in fields like politics and medicine once told me how important it is to have people who create beauty, who inspire dreams and who push others to dream as well. This balance between engaging with the world and creating beauty is vital. For me, creativity is like the weight of lightness. It’s light because it embodies fantasy, dreams and imagination, but it also carries weight - the responsibility to ground those dreams in reality and keep pushing forward. It’s about maintaining a balance, a harmony. You can’t be too superficial and light, nor can you lean too heavily into darkness. There’s a magic in finding that equilibrium. You can see this balance reflected in my collections. Some designs embraced grounding elements, while others embodied pure fantasy. This interplay is what keeps my work honest, authentic and dynamic. It’s about

finding that balance between lightness and weight to stay true to both the art and the reality we live in.

Your work often revolves around building an allure and creating silhouettes rather than just a fashion moment. How does this vision come through in the forms and textures of this collection?

Giambattista Valli is more than a fleeting fashion moment; it’s a mindset, a philosophy and a way of life. Trends don’t interest me, and I don't like consumeristic things. Instead, I focus on values. My designs are meant to be cherished, to be kept in your wardrobe long after the season. It's not about buying; it's about the experience.

You launched your first Love bridal collection in 2021 to great success. How do you envision Love 3 resonating with modern brides who seek to express their individuality?

I don’t see my designs as just a collection; to me, they’re like a group of friends, each with its own unique personality. There’s the exuberant one, the minimalist, the romantic, the sleek and modern, and the soft, delicate one. Every dress tells its own story and embodies a different character. Designing a wedding dress, in particular, feels like a form of psychotherapy. It’s about transforming a girl’s lifelong dream into reality. In a way, I’m like a magician - bringing that dream to life is an integral part of my work, and that’s why so many brides seek me out.

Could you walk us through some of the key design elements in Love 3 that exemplify the artistry of the Maison?

Mostly it's the proportion, the silhouette. It's about the art of draping, of bias cutting, of using a fabric like Chantilly lace in a fabulous way. It's the art of bringing a different dynamic to the haute couture artwork of the atelier.

Love 3 is available at Fifty One East, which this year is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Do you have a message of love you would like to share with Fifty One East on this occasion?

I send a heartfelt message of love to all my clients in Qatar, whose passion and support continually inspire me and my atelier to reach new heights of creativity. It's thanks to Fifty One East that I’ve had the privilege to connect with a wider audience there. Our relationship feels like a beautiful love story - we chose each other, and it’s been an extraordinary journey ever since.

And for our readers… what message can you share on how we can live life to the full?

I think it’s about finding harmony within yourself. Yoko Ono once said, “A dream you dream alone is just a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.” When we come together, our dreams become reality in a much more beautiful way. I’m someone who loves beauty, happiness, love stories, flowers - and if we can bring small things that nourish the soul, like a simple fresh flower at breakfast, we can set the tone for a more harmonious day. It’s these little moments of balance and joy that make life authentic and fulfilling.

Shaping Smart Living

Discover how Jason Ou, President of Hisense MEA, is driving innovation and sustainability in the region through cutting-edge technology and local insights.

Since joining Hisense in 2009, what strategies have driven your success in the MEA region?

My focus has been connecting the brand’s global strengths with the unique needs of the MEA region. Understanding the local market dynamics and staying ahead of trends has been key to driving growth. Whether it’s bringing cutting-edge innovations like AI-powered appliances or introducing eco-friendly, energy-efficient solutions, my goal has always been to deliver what truly matters to regional consumers. Building on partnerships with global icons like FIFA and Real Madrid has further strengthened our brand presence, creating connections that resonate deeply in the region. Ultimately, it’s about ensuring Hisense is seen as a trusted leader, offering premium, technology-driven solutions that enhance everyday living.

What Qatar-specific trends or needs have influenced the company’s activities here?

Qatar’s growing focus on sustainability and smart living has significantly influenced our approach in the market. Consumers increasingly demand energy-efficient, ecoconscious products that integrate seamlessly into modern smart homes. To meet these expectations, we’ve introduced AI-driven innovations in our smart refrigerators and air conditioners, designed to optimise performance while conserving energy and reducing environmental impact. Additionally, the emphasis on premium living standards in Qatar has inspired us to bring forward-thinking products like Laser TVs and high-performance home appliances that combine innovation with elegant design. The opening of flagship stores in Lagoona Mall and Al-Rayyan reflects our commitment to making these advanced solutions more accessible to consumers in Qatar and supporting the nation’s Vision 2030 and its broader ambitions for a sustainable and technologically advanced future.

How did Hisense’s presence during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ shape its brand perception in Qatar and beyond?

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ was a pivotal moment for Hisense in the region. As an Official Sponsor, our brand achieved unprecedented visibility, cementing our position as a leader in cutting-edge technology and premium entertainment. Our TVs, specifically, gained immense traction, offering fans an immersive viewing experience that mirrored the excitement of live matches. The event also allowed us to connect directly with Qatari consumers, reinforcing our commitment to quality and innovation. The success of this partnership not only elevated brand awareness in Qatar but also strengthened our reputation across the broader Middle East.

What does the Real Madrid partnership reveal about Hisense’s vision?

Our collaboration with Real Madrid reflects a shared vision of excellence, performance and innovation. Real Madrid is a globally recognised icon, much like Hisense, and this partnership allows us to connect with millions of passionate fans across the region. This collaboration also emphasises our commitment to providing worldclass entertainment solutions, as seen in our premium TVs and home appliances. By aligning with a brand that embodies passion and resilience, we aim to inspire consumers to bring similar values into their everyday lives through our products.

How do Hisense’s premium products meet evolving consumer expectations in the region?

Our premium products, like Laser TVs and smart refrigerators, are designed with cutting-edge technologies to transform daily experiences. For instance, Laser TVs offer cinematic-quality visuals, redefining home

entertainment, while smart refrigerators use smart features and a screen to manage food storage efficiently, enhancing connectivity, convenience and sustainability. In the Middle East, consumers increasingly demand appliances that blend advanced technology with elegant design. The rise of smart homes is also driving the need for seamless connectivity and personalisation. At Hisense, we continuously innovate to not just meet but exceed these evolving expectations, ensuring our products add tangible value to everyday life.

How do AI and smart connectivity enhance Hisense’s user experience and competitiveness?

AI and smart connectivity are at the heart of our product innovation. For example, our AI-powered air conditioners detect human presence and adjust settings automatically for optimal comfort and efficiency. Similarly, our TVs enhance picture quality by analysing content scenes in real-time for greater depth and clarity. Smart connectivity integrates these features seamlessly, enabling users to control multiple devices through a single app or voice commands. This convenience, combined with our focus on creating eco-friendly, user-centric solutions, sets Hisense apart from competitors by offering a truly connected and personalised smart living experience.

How does Hisense blend innovation with sustainability in its products?

Sustainability is a cornerstone of Hisense’s product development. Our appliances are equipped with energyefficient technologies, such as inverter systems that reduce power consumption while maintaining high performance. We also prioritise eco-friendly materials and sustainable manufacturing processes. In the Middle East, including Qatar, where environmental awareness

is growing, we ensure our products align with local and global sustainability goals. By combining innovation with responsibility, Hisense helps consumers reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on performance or convenience.

What makes Qatar a strategic market for Hisense?

Qatar’s rapid economic growth, emphasis on sustainability, and demand for premium living standards make it a key market for Hisense. The successful launch of our Lagoona Mall flagship store during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ highlighted our commitment to the region, and the new Al-Rayyan brand store reinforces this dedication. These stores serve as interactive spaces where consumers can experience our latest innovations firsthand. We see Qatar as a hub for driving innovation and strengthening our brand’s premium positioning across the Middle East.

What is Hisense’s vision for the next five years in Qatar and the MENA region?

Hisense aims to solidify its leadership in smart living across the MEA region. In Qatar, we will focus on expanding our product offerings, enhancing customer touchpoints and introducing more localised innovations. Our R&D initiatives will also emphasise sustainable and AI-driven solutions tailored to the region’s unique needs. We are also committed to fostering partnerships and exploring opportunities in emerging markets. By staying ahead of consumer trends, Hisense will continue to redefine smart living, ensuring our products remain synonymous with innovation and quality.

THE ESSENCE OF WOW

As Co-Founder & Creative Director of MATIERE PREMIERE, Aurélien Guichard is transforming the world of modern perfumery. In this Latitude exclusive, he shares his vision, inspirations and passion for sustainable luxury.

In your career, you have created an incredible number of fragrances before launching MATIERE PREMIERE. Can you share your personal relationship with scent and what led you on this path?

I am a seventh generation perfumer: My grandparents cultivated roses, jasmine and verbena in Grasse, my father is a perfumer and my mother, a sculptor. Growing up in a family of perfumers and creatives, I was immersed in a rich, aesthetic environment from a young age. It certainly influenced my relationship with scent and with creation at large.

After studying at the Givaudan School of Perfumery, I was able to collaborate with very talented people and create fragrances for prestigious brands like Gucci, Issey Miyake, Versace and Burberry. Mastering the traditional techniques of perfumery provides the freedom to innovate and deviate from established rules. I’ve always sought this freedom by both adhering to and breaking these rules.

We launched MATIERE PREMIERE in 2019, with our olfactive approach being a mix of traditional techniques and a modern take on creation. I formulate our fragrances by “overdosing” one central natural ingredient and highlighting its most beautiful facets with short, modern and understandable formulas. MATIERE PREMIERE means “raw material” in French, our philosophy is very much ingredient-first.

MATIERE PREMIERE has become renowned for its commitment to high-quality, sustainable ingredients. Can

you share more about the brand’s philosophy and how it influences the creative process behind each fragrance?

Because our creative approach is ingredient-first, I often say that sourcing is my first act of creation. For me, the olfactive quality of an ingredient is intricately connected to the way it is cultivated, which makes sourcing a key priority for MATIERE PREMIERE. When looking for ingredients, I prioritise olfactive excellence, but also consistently favour ethical and organic productions. We also grow some of our own ingredients on MATIERE PREMIERE’s Ecocert-certified fields near Grasse, in the South of France. I am currently the only perfumer in the world who cultivates his own ingredients, it’s a real dream-come-true for me. We currently produce Rose Centifolia and tuberoses, and we planted lavender in February 2023. Our roses and tuberoses are exclusively used for MATIERE PREMIERE – roses for Radical Rose and tuberoses for French Flower.

As for the ingredients we don’t grow ourselves, we seek producers who adhere to responsible sourcing principles and provide the high olfactive quality we aim for. For instance, the vanilla absolute I’ve used in Vanilla Powder comes from Madagascar through a Fair for Life agricultural programme, and the organic sandalwood oil in Santal Austral is supplied by a company committed to planting several trees for every one cut. The saffron at the heart of Crystal Saffran on the other hand is sourced from the Kozani region in Greece, through a local cooperative. I think that the future of luxury lies in the access to highquality raw materials. Ethical sourcing is the luxury of today and tomorrow.

1. AURÉLIEN GUICHARD'S ATELIER IN GRASSE

As an olfactory artist, you mention the importance of creating “palpable textures” in your perfumes. How do you envision a fragrance feeling to the wearer beyond just scent?

In my mind, I visualise the ingredient, but also its texture, just like a couturier imagines the texture of his fabric or a painter considers paint textures. For MATIERE PREMIERE, I want to highlight the unique texture of the incredible natural ingredients I work with. Overall, to me MATIERE PREMIERE’s fragrances are about modernity, texture and potent diffusion, without being overpowering. It’s important the fragrance feels comfortable. While everyone experiences a fragrance differently, I hope to evoke something positive in the wearer - whether it’s comfort, sensuality, protection or simply a sense of well-being.

The idea of "contrast" is prominent in your Vanilla Powder Eau de Parfum, with the balance between dark vanilla and Palo Santo wood. How do contrasts play a role in your creative approach to fragrance composition?

As a perfumer, I want to take an ingredient to places it has not been taken before – sometimes it’s through contrasts. For example, the first versions of Vanilla Powder were much closer to the smell of the Vanilla Absolute itself, which is very true to the natural scent of the dried vanilla beans: rich, warm, intense and quite comforting. However as much as I personally enjoyed this direction, people close to me told me it reminded them of a dessert when I asked them for first impressions. For many people, vanilla is an ingredient we associate with food. I then decided to take a different route with the creation, adding luminosity and

AURÉLIEN GUICHARD

verticality to the perfume. I chose to contrast the deep and dark facets of the vanilla with a natural Palo Santo oil, and an explosion of white modern powders – coconut and white musks – which give the fragrance a contemporary and luminous aspect. The result is a very sophisticated vanilla, far from the sweetness one might expect.

What inspired you to create the most recent Extraits de Parfum collection?

The Extraits are inspired by our existing EDPs Crystal Saffron, Radical Rose, Encens Suave, Santal Austral, and Falcon Leather. With the collection, I wanted to bring a new dimension to their central ingredients, like giving them a new identity. There is one common creative approach for all of them: the Extraits have a higher concentration, a higher dosage of the central ingredient and the addition of a “guest ingredient” that brings a new facet to the note. It was about reaching a balance between olfactive richness and edginess. This Extrait collection allowed me to work with some incredible raw materials, too. For Santal Austal Extrait for example, the guest ingredient is a black cardamom absolute from Nepal that was exclusively developed for MATIERE PREMIERE. It brings a unique intensity, both smoky and woody, and takes Santal Austral to more spicy and vibrant territories.

Falcon Leather and Crystal Saffron from this collection have resonated deeply with audiences at Fifty One East. What do you think it is about these scents that particularly connect with the region's taste and culture?

Since my early days as a perfumer, I was always impressed with the Middle East and its culture around fragrances –for me, it is perhaps the most refined region in the world in terms of olfactory culture. There's a real taste and an aptitude for the highest quality, which is something we aim to achieve at MATIERE PREMIERE. Falcon Leather and Crystal Saffron are both refined fragrances, with strong olfactory identities. Falcon Leather is an interpretation of leather with birch tar essence from Finland as its central ingredient. I wanted to get close to the smell of the falconer's glove - the smooth, fullgrain leather on top and the suede interior. As for Crystal Saffron, the story began when I came across a fantastic saffron oil from the Kozani region in Greece, completely by chance. When I smelt it, the crystalline quality of it

inspired me immediately to create something that would smell very bright, yet comfortable. I wanted to work on the fresh and crisp facets of saffron, rather than its warm and spicy side, to create a fragrance that feels both modern and effortlessly cool.

Fifty One East is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, marking decades of offering exceptional experiences to its discerning clientele. What message would you like to share with our loyal customers as part of this milestone celebration?

We are proud to be available at Fifty One East, home to a clientele with a true appreciation for beauty and quality. It's a privilege to know that our fragrances resonate with you. Perfumes are like clothes – they become perfect when worn. The magic happens between the fragrance and the wearer, and the story it creates. I hope that when wearing MATIERE PREMIERE fragrances, people will feel a sense of confidence, and the fragrance will provoke compliments and reactions, perhaps even prompting strangers to stop you to ask what you're wearing.

What does the future look like from an olfactory perspective and for MATIERE PREMIERE?

With my co-founders Caius von Knorring and Cédric Meiffret, we have a common vision of offering some of the world's most qualitative fragrances. From a creative standpoint, it is always inspiring for me to find new ways of presenting an ingredient and discover new ones altogether. As mentioned, we have planted lavender in our fields; I am very excited at the prospect of creating our very own MATIERE PREMIERE take on lavender.

This season’s evening wear collections focus on a striking trend: monochromatic looks where the choice of colour alone creates impact, elevated by sophisticated cuts and meticulous detailing. Pamella Roland’s tribute to Paris, for instance, features single-tone pastels that are brought to life through delicate crystal-embroidered motifs. In Oscar de la Renta's collection, the palette is simplified yet intensified by intricate rose motifs and metallic touches. Naja Saade channels this trend with gowns whose clean lines and thoughtful accents convey emotion, while at Georges Hobeika monochrome pieces are given texture that evokes resilience.

AZZI & OSTA embodies this trend with hues that capture the energy of summer, emphasising flow and movement. Similarly, Naeem Khan, Saiid Kobeisy and Tony Ward each play with silhouette and selective adornmentfeathers, metallics and floral embellishments - to heighten the impact of a single hue.

Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier and Jenny Packham further underscore this trend with classic shades - white, black and metallics - focusing on refined shapes and delicate detailing that create drama through simplicity. At Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini glorious head-to-toe pink is accented with metallic accessories, while at Erdem the colour red embodies the essence of Greek diva Maria Callas. If all the world is a stage, this season is perfect to bring on the drama in one shade and effortless style.

Infused with the sun, architecture, music and the free spirit of the coast, the essence of summer is captured in a collection that invites exploration and adventure.

Inspired by the codes of lifestyle and everyday movement, the collection features a playful interpretation of classic silhouettes, including diving hoods adorned with press studs, marking a new chapter in CHANEL's repertoire, and a sweatshirt reimagined in a fish-printed chiffon. This fresh take includes kangaroo pockets on sleeveless checked dresses, hooded variations and sheath dresses. Classic

sports wear is given a twist, with Bermuda shorts adorned with embroidered trims and cycling shorts fabricated from tweed. Swimwear is also naturally a focus, while footwear options, including terry towelling flip-flops with platform soles, complete the beach-ready looks.

The beauty looks at the CHANEL Cruise 2024/25 show in Marseille perfectly complemented the Maison's vibrant collection, inspired by the city’s dynamic spirit. Read on to learn how to achieve them at home.

Each beauty look began with a flawless base, utilising the Les Beiges Water-Fresh Complexion Touch applied using the 2-in-1 Fluid and Powder Foundation Brush N°101. Le Correcteur de CHANEL then corrected any imperfections, using the Retractable Dual-Tip Concealer Brush N°105. For warmth, the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sun-Kissed Powder was applied to the apples of the cheeks and temples using the Precision Powder Brush N°107.

Eyebrows were groomed using the Dual-Ended Brow Brush N°207, followed by the Stylo Sourcils Waterproof. A touch of Gel Sourcils in Transparent added depth to brow hairs, ensuring the face was framed beautifully.

For the eyes, a playful mix of shades from Ombre Essentielle 222 Jade Facetté and Ombre Essentielle 224 Blé D’Or Antique created a mesmerising gaze. Applied with the Retractable Dual-Ended Eyeshadow Brush N°200, the eyeshadow was blended across the eyelids and extended toward the temples. Le Volume de CHANEL 10 Noir mascara completed the eye look, adding volume and drama. The lips echoed the collection’s spirit with a touch of 31 Le Rouge 1 Rouge Beige, a rich hue that harmonised beautifully with the overall aesthetic.

Nails were prepped with La Base Camélia, followed by Le Vernis 157 Phenix. To enhance shine, Le Gel Coat was applied, while La Crème Main was used as a final touch to leave hands feeling soft and supple.

Rich and smoky, deep and warm, the scent of oud has for centuries defined the very essence of luxury in the Gulf, revered not only for its captivating fragrance but also for its association with spiritual significance and opulence. Derived from the resin of the Aquilaria tree, this rare and expensive ingredient once played a central role in rituals and royal ceremonies. Originally burned to purify spaces during important events, its rich aroma was said to elevate the atmosphere of sacred gatherings. In the courts of ancient rulers, it symbolised wealth and status. In the 10 th century, Persian polymath Ibn Sina is credited with distilling oud into its essential oil form, transforming it from a sacred incense to a coveted perfume ingredient.

While oud has been a cornerstone of perfumery in the Gulf for centuries, it is only in recent decades that international perfume houses have fully embraced its power as a muse. Today, it inspires an increasingly diverse range of fragrances, blending tradition with innovation. As the name suggests, Precious Oud by Van Cleef & Arpels pays homage to oud’s legendary eminence, counterbalancing its rich depth with delicate florals, amber and balsams to create a fragrance that exudes both mystery and sophistication. In Oud Jaune Intense by Fragrance du Bois, 100% organic vintage oud infuses the fragrance with a milky warmth that perfectly complements tropical florals and fruits.

Indeed, perfumers are now more focused than ever on the origin of oud, as the sourcing and age of the resin both profoundly influence its aroma - the longer the wood ages, the more refined and complex its scent becomes. The choice of Laotian oud in Xerjoff’s Alexandria II adds an earthy richness that evokes the ancient grandeur of Alexandria, while rare Bangladeshi oud in MATIERE PREMIERE's Falcon Leather Extrait de Parfum intensifies smoky birch tar and leather notes, creating a fragrance that is both audacious and refined. Meanwhile, Givenchy Fantasque, from the label's LA COLLECTION PARTICULIÈRE, blends Malaysian oud with myrrh-incense, rose and vanilla, offering a luxurious and multi-layered depth.

As experimentation with oud continues to evolve, its status as a prized ingredient appears to grow: its timeless allure is being reimagined by perfumers, who breathe new life into this treasured ingredient, creating fragrances that tell diverse, captivating stories.

Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II

THE COSMOPOLITAN WATCH

The Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II is designed to display the time in two different time zones simultaneously. Robust and functional, it is the ideal watch for criss-crossing the globe.

BORN TO TRAVEL

With its two time-zone display, the GMT-Master, launched in 1955, was originally developed as a navigation instrument for professionals criss-crossing the globe. Heir to the original model, the GMT-Master II was unveiled in 1982 with a new movement ensuring ease of use. Its combination of peerless functionality, robustness and distinctive aesthetics made it an icon.

Launched in 1955, the GMT-Master witnessed the rapid expansion of intercontinental travel in the latter half of the 20th century. It even became the official watch of Pan American World Airways, the most prominent American international airline at the time. The GMT-Master, a true “tool watch”, evolved continually to offer increasing technical performance. In 1982, Rolex introduced a new movement that allowed the hour hand to be set independently of the other hands. To clearly mark this evolution, the model fitted with the optimized movement was named the GMT-Master II.

ONE INSTRUMENT, SEVERAL TIME ZONES

The GMT-Master II has an instantly recognizable design with a graduated bezel insert, which is available in various dual-colour combinations – the lower half symbolizing daytime and the upper signalling night-time. With traditional hour, minute and seconds hands, its triangletipped 24-hour hand and bidirectional rotatable bezel with a 24-hour graduated Cerachrom insert, the GMT-Master II can display the time in two time zones simultaneously: either the local time and the reference time, or the local time and that of an alternative time zone.

The latest GMT-Master II is equipped with calibre 3285, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A consummate demonstration of technology, it offers outstanding performance in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability. It is fitted with the exclusive blue Parachrom hairspring and also incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement. The movement’s power reserve extends to approximately 70 hours.

HIGH-TECHNOLOGY CERAMIC

The Cerachrom bezel insert is manufactured in a single piece by Rolex from extremely hard ceramic. This hightech material is virtually scratchproof and keeps its vibrant

colours over time. Rolex broke new ground in 2013 when it introduced its first two-colour, single-piece ceramic bezel insert – blue on one half and black on the other. One year later, the brand released a Cerachrom insert in red and blue – the GMT-Master’s original colours. It carried out pioneering research to develop a red ceramic corresponding to its aesthetic and quality criteria. Over the years, Rolex presented other colour combinations such as brown and black (2018), and green and black (2022) – on a version with the crown and crown guard on the left side of the case and the date display at 9 o’clock. In 2023, a grey and black Cerachrom insert was unveiled on a yellow Rolesor version of the GMT-Master II as well as on a version entirely crafted from 18 ct yellow gold. A year later, the grey and black insert was introduced on the Oystersteel version of the watch – a material that celebrates the identity of the original model, which was only available in steel at its launch.

SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION

Like all Rolex watches, the GMT-Master II is covered by the Superlative Chron-ometer certification. This designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories, according to its own criteria. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international fiveyear guarantee.

The GMT-Master II has an instantly recognizable design with a graduated bezel, which is available in dual-colour combinations.

MISSION POSSIBLE

The ultimate precision of TUDOR's Pelagos FXD GMT "Zulu Time"

In high-stakes missions where timing is everything, precision is paramount. The TUDOR Pelagos FXD GMT “Zulu Time” watch is purpose-built for aviation professionals who rely on Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) – known as “Zulu Time” in military jargon. This essential function allows French Naval Aviation crews to synchronise their actions seamlessly across time zones, from the cockpit of a Rafale Marine jet to the command centres of helicopter carriers.

The Pelagos FXD GMT embodies a proud legacy rooted in TUDOR’s longstanding relationship with the French Navy, a partnership forged in the 1950s when TUDOR’s robust designs first met the Navy's rigorous demands. TUDOR’s latest evolution, the FXD GMT, continues this legacy with an extra layer of sophistication. Built on the proven FXD platform introduced in 2021, this model is engineered to serve the unique requirements of the Aéronautique Navale - the aviation wing of the French Navy - where personnel require quick reference to multiple time zones.

The watch’s standout feature is its orange “Zulu time” hand, making a full 24-hour rotation and enabling aviators to monitor UTC effortlessly. This critical capability is accompanied by an hour hand that “jumps” in singlehour increments for smooth adjustment when moving across time zones, and a bidirectional rotating bezel with luminous 24-hour markers for easy visibility, even in low light. Its design prioritises both form and function: a 42mm grade 2 titanium case with fixed strap bars encapsulates the rugged utility needed in naval aviation.

Certified as a Master Chronometer by METAS, the FXD GMT meets the highest standards of precision, waterproofing and magnetic resistance, confirming it as a tool ready for any airborne mission. The case back bears the Marine Nationale emblem, a tribute to the model’s origins, and the robust strap, woven by Julien Faure on historic looms, matches the green of aviator flight suits, with an embroidered insignia completing this distinctive homage to military heritage.

Eternal Flow

Boucheron's Or Bleu pushes boundaries in its tribute to water

Lulled by the rhythm of waves in her childhood growing up in coastal France, Boucheron Creative Director Claire Choisne has always had a profound connection to water. For the Maison’s 2024 Carte Blanche collection, Or Bleu, she drew inspiration from Iceland’s dramatic waterscapes of untamed waterfalls, inky rivers and icy shores. The result is a stunning tribute to water’s power and beauty, with 26 high jewellery creations that capture its raw essence.

The Cascade necklace is a triumph of both imagination and craftsmanship. Measuring 148 centimetres, the longest piece ever created in Boucheron’s atelier, this river of diamonds flows down the body like a waterfall. Over 1,800 diamonds shimmer in perfect articulation, offering a fluidity that mimics the natural movement of water. In true Boucheron style, this adornment also transforms itself: two detachable sections become earrings, revealing an ingenious versatility.

Elsewhere in the collection, a single drop sends ripples across still water, a fleeting moment immortalised in the Ondes set. Rock crystal is sculpted into concentric waves that undulate gently along the skin. Beneath this translucent surface lie thousands of invisibly set diamonds, their brilliance magnified by the crystal's clarity.

The collection's darker edge is reflected in Eau d’Encre, inspired by Iceland’s ink-black rivers. Volcanic obsidian

serves as the foundation for a striking cuff and ring. Snowset diamonds shimmer against the black stone, resembling foam dancing over dark waters.

On Iceland’s Diamond Beach, icebergs shimmer like natural jewels. Boucheron reinterprets this vision in the Iceberg necklace, where rock crystal, expertly sandblasted, mimics the frosted texture of ice. Hidden diamonds embedded within the crystal sparkle like frozen droplets, while the piece seems to float weightlessly around the neck.

The Eau Vive shoulder brooches, designed to echo crashing waves, exemplify the collection’s theme with their vivid realism. Crafted from a single aluminium block for lightweight comfort and adorned with diamonds, these pieces reflect the interplay of high jewellery savoirfaire and modern technology.

The aquatic inspiration flows far beyond the collection itself, with the creation of the groundbreaking Quatre 5D Memory ring. A nod to Choisne’s own childhood spent by the ocean, this ring preserves the sound of waves in nanostructured glass, a triumph of innovation that elevates the idea of sensory emotions captured in jewellery for eternity.

Time to LISTEN

CHANEL brings wearable sound to the PREMIÈRE watch

In 1987, CHANEL introduced the PREMIÈRE watch, a pioneering design that blended the codes of high fashion with watchmaking. With its octagonal case - an ode to the No. 5 perfume stopper - and chain-link bracelet inspired by CHANEL’s iconic handbag strap, the watch became an emblem of timeless sophistication. Over the decades, CHANEL has paid tribute to this icon through new creations, but in 2024 it has elevated this homage to be literally in tune with the modern world with the PREMIÈRE SOUND watch.

Under Arnaud Chastaingt’s direction, CHANEL Watchmaking Creation Studio has merged classic style with state-of-the-art technology in this new sautoir necklace. The PREMIÈRE SOUND retains the original’s jewellery essence while introducing wired headphones, equipped for calls, audio playback and volume control. These precisionengineered headphones provide high-quality sound and passive noise cancellation, delivering an immersive experience while maintaining a luxurious aesthetic.

The PREMIÈRE SOUND is as versatile as it is stylish, pairing seamlessly with any smartphone or audio device, connecting at the click of a clasp. Worn as a necklace, it brings together elegance and utility, creating a piece that is both timeless and a reflection of today’s dynamic pace.

CHANEL's PREMIÈRE SOUND watch captures Gabrielle Chanel’s vision of moving boldly into the future. It’s a celebration of freedom, seamlessly merging style and technology to elevate each moment. The result is a sophisticated companion for those who embrace life’s rhythms, with each beat marked by CHANEL’s unmatched elegance.

THE ART OF GOLD

Annamaria

FCammilli sculpts precious masterpieces

rom the heart of Florence, where Renaissance beauty meets modern fashion, Annamaria Cammilli has carved her renown in the craft of jewellery. Established in 1983, Cammilli’s eponymous brand has spent more than four decades at the forefront of luxury design, creating pieces that transcend jewellery, as a testament to her background as a painter and sculptor.

At the core of Cammilli’s work is the brand's unparalleled technique of lost-wax casting, an ancient method she has elevated into an art form. Each piece begins with a handcrafted wax prototype, giving the jewellery its signature three-dimensionality - a hallmark that distinguishes Cammilli creations on the international stage. From the enveloping shapes of the Premiere collection, inspired by the marine world, to the elegant curves of the Sultana line, which balances form and colour for a deeply sophisticated effect, every design feels dynamic and alive with movement.

The luxurious appeal of Cammilli’s designs is enhanced by the exclusive Aetherna finish, a velvety treatment that amplifies the gold’s texture while playing with light and shadow, creating mesmerising contrasts. This finish is applied to the brand’s eight signature shades of gold, from classic Yellow Sunrise to bold Black Lava, allowing wearers to select the hue that complements their style.

Cammilli’s collections, including the iconic Dune line, continue to evolve with pieces like Dune Chic, introducing refined, minimalist forms adorned with pavé diamonds. In celebration of the brand's 40th anniversary, the Firenze collection - born from the success of the limited-edition Firenze ring - honours Florence’s artistic legacy while beautifully reflecting Cammilli’s unique sculptural DNA.

At its core, music is a source of joy. From singing along to favourite tunes to learning an instrument or experiencing live performances, it infuses life with vibrancy, elevating our spirits and enriching our interactions.

It’s never too early or too late to incorporate music into life, with research indicating the benefits to everyone from expectant mothers to newborn babies and ever onwards through childhood and adulthood. Whether taking up a new instrument as a solo hobby or joining a music class, it’s clear there are plenty of rewards to be reaped.

Rain and Resonance

Qatar debuts first Arab pavilion at Gwangju Biennale

Another first for Qatar has been achieved with the proud unveiling of the country’s pavilion in September at the Gwangju Biennale, South Korea’s renowned contemporary art exhibition. Curated by the National Museum of Qatar, the Qatar Pavilion is a historic milestone, marking the first Arab contribution to this prestigious biennale. Titled Knock, Rain, Knock, the exhibition beautifully captures the significance of rain in Qatari culture, weaving themes of identity, spirituality and connection to the land.

Seven Qatari and Qatar-based artists present newly commissioned works, each offering interpretations that reflect on Salat al istisqaa’ - a prayer invoking rain in times of drought. This shared cultural motif resonates across the exhibit, exploring the symbolism of water as a source of life, renewal and faith, while also engaging broader Arab and Islamic identities.

Supported by Qatar Museums, Knock, Rain, Knock represents Qatar’s commitment to fostering global cultural dialogues and building artistic bridges. Located at the Kwangju Bank Art Hall, the pavilion exists alongside Pansori, the biennale’s main exhibition, which examines modern soundscapes.

Through this presence in Gwangju, Qatar underscores the universal language of art to bridge continents, celebrating a unique connection between East Asia and the Arab world. As the exhibit runs through December 2024, Qatar’s artistic journey at Gwangju stands as a testament to the power of cultural exchange and the profound stories that can be told through art.

60 Years of Sound Innovation

Bose celebrates a legacy of excellence

Founded in 1964 by Dr. Amar Bose, an MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) graduate with a PhD in electrical engineering, Bose Corporation has spent six decades transforming the way the world experiences sound. Dr. Bose, a professor at MIT for over 45 years, began his journey with a singular passion: to create sound systems that delivered true, lifelike audio. This quest began when a high-end stereo system disappointed his ears, sparking his groundbreaking research into psychoacoustics - the science of how we perceive sound.

From its first product, the unconventional but pioneering Bose 2201 speaker, to the iconic 901 Direct/Reflecting speaker that debuted in 1968, Bose set the standard for innovation in sound. The 901, which combined direct and reflected sound, delivered a concert-like experience at home, revolutionising the audio industry and establishing Bose as a leader in high-fidelity sound.

But Bose didn’t stop there. The 1980s saw the introduction of the Acoustic Wave Music System, a compact audio solution that packed the power of larger, multicomponent systems into a small, all-in-one unit, setting a new standard in home audio. Bose also made significant strides in noise cancellation technology, debuting its aviation headsets in the late 1980s and launching the first consumer-focused noise-cancelling headphones in 2000. This technology redefined audio experiences for millions, especially for travellers seeking peace on noisy flights.

In celebration of its 60 th anniversary, Bose has released limited Diamond Editions of some of its most beloved products: the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones, QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, and Ultra Open Earbuds. These sleek, high-performance models pay tribute to Bose’s legacy of innovation and its ongoing mission to deliver exceptional sound for every moment.
