lockbuster…how many of you remember this company and one of their slogans? My wife and I used to be frequent shoppers, long before the streaming services of today.

For those of you who remember Blockbuster, do you remember one of their slogans? Be kind…REWIND. With today’s climate I’d like to reintroduce this slogan with a little adjustment…Be KIND…rewind. I encourage my team to follow this motto. In our new Team Orientation, I go through a lot of information…our Core Values, Mission Statement, Purpose Statement and what managements expectations are of all new staff. At the end I play them a video and tell them that if they can only remember one thing during this process then I want them to remember this video. I tell them that no matter what…be KIND. When things aren’t going as planned, or there is an issue with something, be KIND. When someone is being rude, or it feels like someone is yelling at you, be KIND. When you get frustrated or upset…be KIND. I tell them this because even though things aren’t going as we may have planned, you never know what struggles the other person you’re dealing with is going through. The other person may not be acting the way we would expect, and regardless of all of these things, we have the ability to chose our responses …I encourage them to always choose to be KIND. If you would like to watch the video I present to the new Team Members, I’m including it here… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTsvSAItPqA

If you find yourself struggling with keeping it together and things are building up, remember…you CAN chose your attitude. Please chose to be KIND.

GOLF

Bob Hennefer H E AD GOL F PROF ESSI O N A L #10, Named Killdeer Calls, Reopens! You’ll notice new hole signs on the tee boxes this year, and they include the names of each hole! This month we’re featuring Hole #10, because it’s newly renovated and will now be a Par 4 from all tee boxes. There are three different teeing grounds, which makes the hole shorter from all tees except the Palmer and Champion tees. With the tee boxes now all shifted to the right, there is even more of a premium on the tee shot. Out of Bounds still lurks on the right, and you have to stay short of the new fairway bunker on the left. Hitting into the angled and shallow green, distance control is a must.

some trees. What would you do? A. Play it as it lies B. Take an unplayable C. Declare it lost and play the provisional If you answered A or B, you are correct. You cannot declare your ball lost.

Instruction Tip of the Month How can I stop missing short putts? Use the two tee drill to help square the face and steady your path. You’ve probably seen Tiger Woods use this drill before every tournament. Set up to a four or five foot straight putt on the practice green, and place your putter on the ground. Stick two tees in the ground just outside the toe and heel of your putter, and place the ball in the center of the tees. Practice making putts swinging your putter through the two tees. Rules Tip of the Month Let’s say you lose your tee shot to the right on #10, and you think it may be lost, so you correctly declare a provisional ball and you hit that drive down the middle of the fairway. You then locate your original ball in bounds, within three minutes, but it is in a horrible lie under UPCOMING EVENTS April 1st Posting Season begins, you must post every 9 and 18 hole score beginning today! or those of you who are still hesitant to join our LCWGA because you are worried that you are “not good enough,” we have provided below a small selection of the TALES OF HUMILIATION of some of our members, including some of our top-notch women golfers. After reading their tragic stories, please consider joining us. You are definitely “good enough”! (Identities have been changed to protect the innocent.) “I scored a birdie with two shots on the first hole! I hit my second shot straight down the middle of the fairway and thwump! I hit a pigeon that happened to be standing right in the path of my ball. The ball hit him, knocked the feathers off of him, and the next thing I knew, he was dead. The hard part was calling the pro shop to confess what I’d done. They promised to keep my dirty deed under wraps. Whenever I stand on the first tee I always look to see if any fine feathered friends are in harm’s way before releasing my shot.” Anita Audubon “My partner and I were playing in an alternate shot tournament. On the 16th Hole, a par 3, both of our tee shots landed in bunkers on either side of the elevated green. We chose the “better” of the two and proceeded to hit the ball over the green and into the bunker on the other side, 13 times. Thankfully, our opponents had a sense of humor and helped us count our score. If memory serves me correctly, we landed the 14th shot onto the green and then two putted. It was exhausting for all of us!” Sandy Misery

“Many years ago, three of my friends and I (all very new golfers) were golfing at a public course. One friend got up to tee off, turned to the 3 of us watching and said she was very nervous and asked us to all turn around and not watch her tee shot. We obediently all turned our backs to her to allow her to tee off without our watchful eyes. Can you imagine what that looked like? We still laugh about this after 20 years of golf!!!” Barbara Blinders. “On a particularly energetic tee shot, I took the advice of our pro and exaggerated my follow through. I exaggerated it so much that I lost my balance and landed squarely on my rear. One of my shoes was left standing at the tee box. The ball was left on the tee. My cart mate and I laughed until we cried.” Terry Twister “A few months into our membership, my husband and I decided to sign up for golfing event. We were paired up with a couple who we had just met for the very first time at the driving range just before the event. My husband and I teed off on the first hole and both of us had the worst tee shots you could ever imagine! We both shrunk into our cart thinking that the other couple must be so frustrated to have been paired with us. Fast forward 9 years...the couple and we have become the closest friends!” Claudia Cringer “I was doing well on my fairway shots. My 5 wood was working. I thought I hit a great shot, just over the stripped pole in the fairway. I hit the very top, and my ball bounced back 20 yards. Luckily it didn’t kill anyone on the way back!” Betty Boomerang If you are interested in joining or have any questions regarding our organization, please email Kelly Redcay at kellyanneredcay@hotmail.com . Registration forms are also available in the ladies’ locker room! If you have full golfing privileges and want to check us out first, join us on Opening Day, and hopefully that will convince you to join our Wednesday league games. We look forward to playing with you!

DI REC TOR OF TE N N I S

am super excited about the upcoming Ladies Spring League season. LCCC now has 3 teams in the Philadelphia Spring League. This is a first at Laurel Creek! The Monday team (Cup 6) re-entered the league 12 years ago. They started in the bottom cup and after several successful challenges worked their way up the ladder to their current position in Cup 6. Four years ago, we added our first Wednesday team (Cup E). And now in 2022, we are adding another Wednesday team in Cup G. A little history on the league itself. Informally called Philly Spring League, the Women’s Inter-Club Tennis Association of Philadelphia was formed in 1899 and is one of the oldest ongoing tennis leagues in the United States. *The association was originally an informal group of interested people representing the following country clubs: Belmont, Germantown Cricket Club, Merion Cricket Club, Philadelphia Cricket Club*. There are now over 40 unique clubs in the league from Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware, some with as many as 9 teams in the league. Thanks and good Luck to all of our members who are representing LCCC. Registration will open for Adult Clinics as soon as the courts are officially open for play. After School Kids’ Tennis begins Tuesday, May 10 and runs every Tuesday and Thursday for 6 weeks, Registration is open in the app. Junior Summer Tennis Camp begins Monday, June 20 and runs for 10 weeks. Registration is open in the app Reservations for the pickleball courts will open on April 1st. Reservations for tennis courts and the ball machine will open as soon as the courts are ready for play.

Congratulations to the Bartholo family who were recognized recently as the USTA Middle States Family of the Year.

Also, Congratulations to John Gentek who received the coveted Middle State Boys 16s Sportsmanship

ON THE COURSE

John Slade D IR E C TO R OF G O L F C O UR S E O P ER A T I ONS Due to phototropic growth, over the years, the view on #14 had become somewhat obstructed from a tree on the right side of the hole. As the trunk of the tree is outside the wetlands clearing zone, removing the entire tree is not an option.

Therefore, as we did on #12 last year, we had the tree cut vertically in line with the clearing limit.

There are some treacherous hole locations on the right side of this green, but at least there will be one less obstacle to avoid in trying to get to the short grass.
