ime. There are so many sayings around this one particular word: Time Fly’s when you’re having fun, There’s never enough time. Time is what we want most, but what we use the worse. One thing every single person on this planet has and it’s the same no matter who you are. It’s the same 86,400 seconds to spend every day. You can’t save them…they expire each night never to return. If these seconds were dollars how would you spend them? Would you let them expire each night or would you do your best to spend every single one of them?

Mark Muir

Life seems to move at the speed of light sometimes and if you’re not careful you’ll miss the important things. We all spend a lot of our time working to provide for our family, but I encourage you to make sure you take the time to enjoy the people you are providing those things to. Take time to sit across from them while you eat dinner and laugh with them as they tell you a joke or when they act silly. Take time to be there for them when life throws them a curve ball and let them know they aren’t alone.

Tony Palmer

Don’t be afraid to let loose or to try something new with them.

Sometimes it feels like I blinked my eyes and my first born went from an infant to now being 15 years old and going into his sophomore year of high school. My youngest was 10 months old when I started here and now he’s almost 9. Time really does fly. I used to count the days or the weeks, but now it seems I’m counting seasons. I am approaching the beginning of my ninth year here at Laurel Creek and it seems like yesterday when I walked into my office for the first time. I look back on that time and see the amazing progress the club has made and it makes me proud to be a part of it. I’m lucky to be able to spend time with other professionals who believe in the things I believe and work hard every day to make things happen. I’m lucky enough to have found something I love to do even when I’m away from the people I love. I hope you have been able to do that as well, but more importantly I hope you are able to spend those 86,400 seconds every day and create memories with those who are the most important in your life. I look forward to seeing you around the club!

e are officially in the dog days of summer and halfway through 2019. I hope the year has been as rewarding for you and your family as it has been for the entire LCCC staff for the past six months. The wave of momentum the club has been riding since our renovation was complete at the end of 2018 and continues to propel us to new heights. Membership is stronger than ever, and member usage of every amenity has increased from the pool, to dining and member events. This growth and activity would not be possible without the support of our members. There are many other clubs in the area where families can spend their free time and dollars, but there is something very special about our club and I want to thank you personally for reaching out to me with friends, neighbors and colleagues who want to be part of our LCCC family. Another area that increases attendance each year is our summer camp programs. Nothing makes me smile more than hearing kids’ laughter in the morning as I walk into the clubhouse. I take time

every morning to greet the “campers” and see what the day has in store. I’m blessed to watch your children grow up at the club year after year and I see the friendships they are building with one another. Speaking of children, I am thrilled to share with all of you that Erin Schafer, our Director of Events welcomed her first child, Cassius Michael in July. Congratulations to Erin and her husband, Sean as they welcome “Cash” to their family. Half the year may be in the books but there’s still more to come in 2019. Here’s to seeing what the rest of the year will bring for our members at LCCC. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I hope to see you soon!

he summer is here so enjoy the warmer weather and longer days to play Golf. As we look back a month ago The Men’s Member-Guest was the major event everyone look forward to playing. With 11 flights and 132 players the 2-day event lived up to the excitement as teams battled it out to see who will take home the title. After all flight winners and 3 wildcard teams went out to the playoffs one team prevailed, first time participants Chris Henderson & his guest Mike Modica. They birdied the 9th hole in sudden death to capture the title. Congrats gentlemen!!

The Mixed Member-Guest had its best turnout with 10 teams playing a modified scramble event. Congratulations to Steven & Linda Angstreich and guests Ira & Ronnie Levine on winning the title this year. Unfortunately, summer storms have affected some events being canceled or moved to another date. On that note please be aware we do not have a lightning detection system in place at the club, but we do inform you if an impending storm is in the area via the GPS device. Our Summer Golf & Tennis camps have begun and it’s great to see all the kids having fun and learning these two great sports. REMINDER: As you pull into the club please drop your bag at the gazebo park to the right and our golf shop attendant will have your bag down bottom. Please check in at the golf shop and if bringing guests sign our Guest book before heading over the bridge to the golf course.

When practicing on the range please follow the hitting rules that are displayed on the sign. This time of year, the grass has a tougher time recovering so doing this hitting pattern will help the recovery process. If you need anything, please give us a call or e-mail us with any questions or concerns.

he ladies’ golf season is chugging along. Our annual Member/Member tournament was held in June and not only did we luck out with the weather but a new team was crowned 2019 winners! Congratulations to 2019 M/M Champs Chrissy Duman and Lynne Demmerly for putting up some awesome scores for both days. Team Barb Kelly and Grace Chung were hot on their heels and hung on to the runner-up position. Way to go Chrissy and Lynne, you get to run the whole show next year! Congrats to Linda Angstreich and Deb Eickhoff for winning the 9 hole Member/Member. Hmm, Linda is a repeat winner of this event as well and did well with her new partner this year.

e are two months into the summer and the days are flying by. We would like to mention to all the parents that we do have Date Night on Wednesday night from 6pm9pm located in our Multi-purpose room and we recently implemented a Kids Corner on Sunday night but with a twist. The kids’ Corner staff will have ideas to entertain your children while you dine. It will be set up outside by the putting green and it will be from 5pm-8pm and parent involvement is encouraged. Some of the activities might include Hula-hooping, Face painting, Arts and Crafts, Coloring, Listening to Music and much more. Come check it out, the kids will have a blast.

We are encouraging all members to make dinner reservations. The reason for making a reservation is so we have a table for you once you arrive. There are times when members walk-in without a prior reservation and unfortunately must be made to wait for an available table. We understand in this busy world we now live in that waiting can be frustrating and frowned upon. We as managers understand this dynamic and do everything in our power to avoid having anyone wait but to effectively and efficiently serve the entire membership, we have guidelines in place that will help better serve everyone. One last reminder “we love collared shirts that are tucked in…”! Fun event to look forward to is “Smores under the Stars” coming in September on Wednesday nights for 4 weeks from 6pm-8pm. This has always been a fun time for kids, parents, and grandparents. Lastly, please make F&B management aware if you or anyone in your family have any food allergies, I would like to put that in your profile, just details we like to keep track of to make your dining experience the best it can be.

his past week’s weather has been brutal, and is taking its toll on the turf. So why do we often see turf loss during these dog days of summer? Roots are often at the root of the matter.

replenish lost moisture is limited, and there is little margin for error. Too little water won’t get the job done, however with extremely hot soil conditions, too much water can be equally disastrous.

As you can see in the illustration below, we are riding the annual roller coaster of root growth and loss, and are nearing the top. Unfortunately, in this case, the top is when the roots are at their shortest.

August is around the corner, and while it hasn’t been the best month in recent years, we will be happy to turn the page on July and look forward to some better grass-growing conditions in the coming months. For now, we will tiptoe through the next few weeks

t is with mixed emotions that we inform you of the departure of Assistant Superintendent, Mike Crane. Mike has been with Laurel Creek for the past 13 years, and has been a key member of our team during that time. Whether it was tackling weeds in the native areas with a 300 gallon sprayer and hose, or taking a more personal approach to removing undesirable plants one at a time with a dabber, Mike never shied away from the tough tasks.

Thank you, Mike!

We will definitely miss Mike’s contribution to Laurel Creek, but wish him the best as he assumes the position of Assistant Superintendent at a private Club in Philadelphia. Undoubtedly, he will be an asset to their operation!
