Well it appears that another spring is right around the corner. I love the spring, mainly because it feels like things are new again. One thing for sure that is new is our website and app.

If you haven’t kept up on all that’s been going on at the club, please take note of this.

Our new app went live on the 1st of March for Apple phones and for Android based phones it should be available this week.

There are a few standard features similar to our previous app…dining reservations, tee times, tennis court bookings, but there are also a few new and exciting features that you should notice.

After you download and log into the app (remember username is your membership number consisting of a letter and 3 numbers and your password is your last name all lower case) you will see the home screen. This home screen can be modified so that the top 3 things you are interested in seeing will always be there. Some of the options include “Upcoming Reservations, Upcoming Events, Weather, Current Statement, Book a Tee time”. In order to change what you see at the bottom there is a small pencil inside of a circle next too the bell icon. Just click that pencil icon and you can change your settings to fit your needs.

Also right next to the bell icon is a dollar sign inside of a circle. This is where you will find any open dining tickets you have while at the club. You will now have the option of signing your check on your phone, just incase you are in a hurry. If you prefer to have the server help you, you will now be able to sign one of the iPads to sign your check instead of a piece of paper. Either way you choose, you will receive and email of your check once you sign. Also in the very near future you will also have a quick member survey to fill out if you would like to provide us some feedback. The other feature I really like is the “Feed” button on the bottom menu. This is where you will get information regarding what is going on at the club as well as some updates from us regarding new and exciting things that are happening.

As the month continues, we will continue to provide you with updates, as well as video tutorials on how best to use the app to make your experience here at Laurel Creek the best it can be.

As always if you have any questions or are having trouble, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for help.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the club.

DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP

Hello friends! This has been the warmest February that I can ever recall. The month flew by but certainly not without some wonderful events for all ages to enjoy. Chef Peter did an outstanding job with the Antinori Wine Dinner and we kept the ladies very busy starting with our Galentine’s Brunch & Bubbly followed by our annual Designer Bag Bingo. There’s so much planning that goes into all our events and we thank all of you for your support.

By now you should have downloaded our new mobile app or logged onto the new LC website. For those who haven’t, the instructions are on the following page. If you have any issues, don’t hesitate to give me a call and I’ll walk you through the steps.

Membership continues to grow as we welcomed 5 new families last month. We are back to a golf wait list and only House and Social are available. If you have friends who are interested in joining the Laurel Creek family, reach out with their names and I’d be delighted to invite them to the club for a tour.

Looking forward to seeing you at the club!

DIRECTOR OF TENNIS

Happy New Year! Thanks to a mild winter so far, there’s been lots of activity at the Pickleball courts. For you cold weather Picklers, here’s an interesting fact from the Harvard Health Medical School Blog:

“Exercising in colder temperatures offers many advantages. In colder temperatures, your heart doesn’t have to work as hard, you sweat less, and expend less energy, all of which means you can exercise more efficiently. Studies also have shown that exercising in cold weather can transform white fat, specifically belly and thigh fat, into calorie burning brown fat. However, cold muscles are at a greater risk for strains and injuries, so make sure to warm up before playing.”

Attention all Ladies Tennis Players

Did you know that Laurel Creek has three teams in the Women’s Inter-club Tennis Association of Philadelphia? This prestigious league dates back to 1899 with almost 50 clubs participating in the Greater Philadelphia area. Team members represent Laurel Creek competing in fun yet challenging matches. We host visiting teams at Laurel Creek and travel to clubs in Philadelphia for away matches. We are always looking for team members and would love to have you! Matches are played on Mondays (Team Cup 6) and Wednesdays (Team Cup D and G) based on your level of play. The season runs from April thru June. What a perfect way to improve your game and meet new members!

Please contact Marianne Sims Kellogg for more information at (267) 240-1341 or mysimskellogg@gmail.com

Join us for “Thirsty Third Thursdays”

All Tennis players and their spouses are invited to meet in the Pub for a casual happy hour the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm. Enjoy drinks, bar bites and tennis talk!

New Guest Policy

We are happy to see the tennis and pickleball courts active through the winter with members and their guests. However, starting in 2023, the board has instituted a limit to the number of times a guest may play at the courts. A guest may play no more than ten times. The Adult Guest Fee per visit is $10.00 and is charged to the member’s account. We hope you understand and respect this decision. Any violations will be brought to the grievance committee.

Stay tuned for more fun tennis and pickleball opportunities this spring!

RACQUETS

John Slade

DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE OPERATIONS

For once, when we speak of aeration, it’s not going to be discussing tine size and organic matter dilution in the soil. No, in this case we’re talking about raising oxygen levels in a water body.

Over the past several years, the aquatic weed growth in the lake at #5 green has become an increasing issue. Testing has shown low oxygen levels in the water. To date, the solution to this problem has been increased chemical applications to control the plant growth.

Instead of continuing down this path, we have installed an aeration system to improve water quality. The system for the five acre lake consists of a compressor inside the pump station, and close to 4000’ of tubing throughout the lake.

Don’t expect to see a big splash and lots of surface disruption with this system. The idea is to increase oxygen levels in the water, not on the surface.

This investment will allow us to reduce the chemical inputs and maintain a water body which is both aesthetically pleasing, as well as one that provides a healthy environment for all of its inhabitants.
