ith the colder weather on the way out and the warmer weather pushing its way in, it can only mean one thing…summer is fast approaching. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of things we need to do before the pool opens, and we head to the shore for the weekends. We just wrapped up two incredible holiday brunches in April with over 600 members attending Easter Sunday. Chef Pete and his team did an incredible job with the menu selections and the quality of food. John, Hannah, Axl and the front of the house team once again amazed everyone with handling such an incredible volume of attendees. Now that the weather is cooperating, we are seeing the golfers enjoying a beautifully maintained course supplied by our outstanding maintenance crew led by John Slade and Don Holgerson. The renovation to #12 fairway bunker has been well received as have the prior improvements to the course. I would ask that those of you who are enjoying the course help the team out and make sure to fill your divots and repair your ball marks…it takes a team to keep the course in the condition it’s in. When using the range we do ask that you take divots in a single line instead of a random pattern. (See photo below)

I know I’ve stated this in the prior articles regarding reservations, however I would like to remind you once again to please try to let us know in advance if you plan to dine at the club. We understand that there are days filled with kid sports/activities and coming to the club is a last-minute decision, but this often leads to you having to wait for a seat which is something we try to avoid. Another dining issue that we are trying to avoid is making a reservation at a certain time but not wanting to sit until an hour later. For us to provide you with outstanding service, we must ask that you be seated within 15-20 minutes of your reservation. We have the dining reservations set to allow a certain number of tables to be seated at one time allowing the kitchen to flow smoothly. If you do not sit at your reserved time, you are negatively impacting the kitchen’s ability to operate efficiently which can result in longer than normal service time. This will benefit all involved and ensure we are able to handle the increased volume we are seeing. If you need help with making a reservation on the App, please check out our Facebook post that will walk you through it. As always we are extremely proud of the work our team accomplishes each and every day and I believe it shows with the increases in activity and also the increase in membership. If you have suggestions you would like to share, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to me through email or stop into my office. I’m always happy to hear from you. Thank you

t’s great to see the golf course in action and that means that summer is just around the corner. We have a season full of great events and between golf, tennis and the pool, there is something for everyone. There is no better time than now to showcase your club to friends considering membership so invite them over and show them what the buzz is all about. Speaking of membership, 2019 has brought in 87 new members and we are only in the month of May. As we continue to bring in new members, the energy and vibrancy of the club has never been stronger. I can attribute the club’s success in membership to our world class facility, superb food, great events, a superior staff and the most supportive and dedicated members. A question I’ve been asked by many of you is, how many members are we accepting before we are full? At the end of each year, the club expects to lose a certain number of members. Last year, between resignations and downgrades we lost 25 Equity, 2 Intermediate, 15 Social, 36 House and 2 Juniors. Our goal each year is to replenish the members we lose plus gain a few more. New members are the lifeblood of the club and more importantly, keeps the increase of dues at a minimum. As always, thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you soon at the club.

SURVEY SAYS!

We send out surveys to improve your member experience and appreciate your suggestions and comments. Here’s what our members had to say about some of our recent events:

PALM SUNDAY There should be a max number of eggs for each child so everyone can participate. My girls were a few minutes late to the hunt and missed most of the eggs. John saved the day! He threw an extra few eggs so that my kids got some! Thank you, John Geller!! There were several upset kids that did not find a “golden egg”. I would suggest eliminating them altogether or ensuring there’s enough golden eggs for one per child.

EASTER BRUNCH Please consider the Easter bunny for photos during Easter brunch. Not everyone can make the Palm Sunday brunch. More of the same please! You all do such an outstanding job despite over 600 guests that day. Amazing!!!! The food was wonderful! We liked the three seating times too. How much better could it be?? Chef Pete and his crew deserve congratulations for making everything perfect. This was one of the best years. Spacing was great in the dining areas. Noise level made it easy to converse. I just wish there was a way to obtain coffee without involving the servers.

he spring golf season is upon us as golf activity has picked up due to nice weather and the golf course still in great shape. If you have not been out to the range the ProV1 range ball have been a hit. Magically, swings are improving. Maybe hitting what the tour player’s use in their events are rubbing off. Spring merchandise is starting to arrive and the shop is up shaping nicely. Just a reminder, that all LCCC members receive 15% off and we try to match internet pricing on all hard goods. As always, we can special order almost any product. Our new Director of Instruction David Quinn along with Glen Gardner have been busy teaching this spring, so call them to book a lesson and improve your game. We still have room in our Junior Combo Golf & Tennis camps this summer so call the golf shop for availability. The Men’s Thursday Night League has started so please check with the golf staff for available openings as they shotgun at 5:30 pm. We will be aerating the greens on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 7th and 8th so the course is closed but the range will stay open from 8:00am – 7:00 pm. As you pull into the club please drop your bag at the gazebo park to the right and our golf shop attendant will have your bag down bottom. Please check in at the golf shop before heading over the bridge to the golf course or the driving range. As a friendly reminder, please continue to sign up for events through the app or website. If you need any questions or concerns please give us a call, email or stop by the Pro-shop. Look forward to seeing everyone at the club!

pring has sprung at LCCC which only means one thing, the opening of the Cabana is right around the corner! With the DJ on Sunday afternoons and the extended pool hours, we don’t doubt that LCCC will be the happening place for you and your friends this summer. Saturday, May 25th is the first day the pool is open and the pool will be open on Saturday and Sunday’s up until Father’s Day weekend. After Father’s Day (June 16th) the pool is open 7 days a week. We still have spots available for Sunday’s Memorial Day festivities. Monday’s event is currently sold out. As more and more members realize that LCCC knows how to put on a party, our events are filling up quickly. Please remember to reserve a spot right away. We don’t doubt that July 4th will be another sell out event! The F&B management team would like to reiterate some reasons for making dining reservations, to ensure you of a table when dining with family and guests, to avoid waiting for a table or absolute last resort may not have a table for you within a convenient time. We anticipate the new deck being a very popular place to dine. Please keep in mind that the outdoor dining space is on a first come first serve basis.

We are ramping up our F&B staff anticipating a busy but fun summer season. You will see some new faces and familiar ones as some of our devoted seasonal staff return. We always ask for your patience when a friendly new hire makes a mistake. As always, please view our dress code before dinning at the club. Keep a collared shirt in the car with you at all times, especially for the little ones. If you do have items such as a t-shirt on, please be aware that we will ask for you to barrow a collared shirt during your duration of your time here in the clubhouse. If you need assistance in making a dining reservation or any dining questions please contact myself, Hannah or Axl.

ON THE COURSE JOHN SLADE

T

he ideal Fine Fescue area might be described as thin and wispy, yet penal. However, achieving this balance has been an on-going challenge for us. Despite our efforts to keep fertilizer and irrigation water from entering these areas, the Fescue becomes quite dense throughout the growing season, and lost balls are a common occurrence.

It’s now become clear that the primary cause of this turf density is the soil in which the Fescue was planted. As much of the property was apple and peach orchard prior to construction, there was a nice layer of rich topsoil available to spread throughout the course. As a matter of fact, with the topsoil stockpiled on the perimeter of the property during the shaping process, there is often more topsoil in the Fescue than in the fairways. While this heavier, nutrient rich soil may be beneficial for growing a dense stand of turf, a sandier, more droughty soil would have been better for the Fine Fescue areas.

The bunker area reduction of the Master Plan has become a great example of the impact which a growing medium can have. The sandier soil from the old bunker locations makes a dramatic difference in the density of the Fescue when compared to surrounding areas. (see photo 1) The outline of the old bunker on the back left of #3 can be seen in the thinner stand of Fescue. In order to replicate these growing conditions, in areas where we have recently sodded Fescue, we are heavily topdressing them. In the short run, we’re basically burying the turf in sand, and forcing the grass to grow through it. In the long run, we hope to create a sandier growing medium. (see photo 2) So, yes, we are piling it on, and one thing is for certain: Referring to these naturalized areas as “low maintenance” is just not right...
