Elton John has a song “I guess that’s why they call it the blues” that starts out with “Don’t wish it away, Don’t look at it like it’s forever” and this song has been resonating with me recently.

Just last week, I had the pleasure, terror, and heartbreak of sending my oldest child to college. I know, I know, how could someone of my limited years have an 18 year old? However unbelievable as it is, I do. I am incredibly proud of him and what he has already accomplished. I’m also sure this part of his journey will be an exciting and fulfilling one for him. For his mother and I it’s a mixed bag of emotions. Driving back from dropping him off was a 3 hour journey, reliving our past and the time we spent with him and his siblings. It was remembering vacations, sports, milestones of his growth while feeling a pang of sadness and guilt realizing those times are now gone. Looking back at those times they all seem like a blur…running around every day trying to make sure they got to where they needed to and had the things they needed. All the while thinking more about what was coming next instead of focusing on what the real important thing was…the actual time we were spending with him. Now that the time is gone, we wish we could go back to those days and grab onto those moments, relishing in the great times we had. That of course isn’t possible for us with him. However for all of the families I see at the club, at the pool, on the course or coming to the special events we have…take this bit of advice…Don’t wish it away, don’t look at it like it’s forever. Take advantage of the times you spend with those you love the most and burn them into your memories because all too soon, that’s all they will be…memories.
It’s been an incredible summer and I can’t believe how fast it flew by. Our summer camps were a huge success with a record number of attendees. We were so excited to have Sarah Sanchez back to lead KE Camp this summer. Sarah and her team of counselors did an amazing job and so many of you reached out to let me know how much your kids enjoyed KE Camp this year. I see from your social media posts that many of you have been traveling to some amazing places.
For many of you, the club was your only place to socialize over the past two years. Membership increased significantly and for the first time ever, our club had a golf wait list which still stands today at 27. We had record numbers in dining, events selling out within minutes, and a full tee sheet every single day. How easy it is to forget the days of mandatory pool reservations! Now that we are mask free and going back to “business as usual”, our August felt like any other prior to 2020—families away on vacation. open tee times and the pool at 50% occupancy. Speaking of the pool, we recently hosted a Prospective Member Pool Party on August 25th for 10 families looking to join the Laurel Creek family. Although we have placed a pause in membership until further notice, we are always looking for qualified families who would benefit from all we have to offer. If you have friends who are considering membership, reach out to me by email, phone or stop by the office. I’d be delighted to invite them to our next Prospective Member event.
As you all return from the shore and family vacations, I look forward to seeing your faces in the dining rooms and at the many events we have planned this fall!
Patty Fagan DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP
There were members vacationing in Greece, Italy, the South of France and Hawaii, just to name a few. It was wonderful to see families traveling again and it appears that we are back to living our normal lives before the pandemic— a far cry from the last two summers where we were all staying local where it felt safe and secure.

INSTRUCTION TIP OF THE MONTH – DRIVING RANGE DIVOT PATTERNS
This time of year we can easily see how much usage the driving range gets on a daily basis. It is important to follow the proper divot patterns when practicing to ensure the most amount of turf is available throughout the season. Please make this best practice a habit when using the practice facility.

FEATURED HOLE OF THE MONTH - #16 – FOX’S LAIR
GOLF
A long drive is required to reach this elevated fairway, guarded on both sides by fescue and out of bounds. A perfect tee shot leaves most players with a mid to long iron shot into this green. Pin point accuracy on the approach is required to stay out of the bunkers and secure a par.
You will notice some construction going on in conjunction with our master plan, in particular some fairway bunker work and some teeing ground work. More details can be found outside the pro shop and in my weekly blog. I know everyone hits 14 fairways each round, but if your ball should enter these areas, this is MANDATORY Free Relief for ground under repair. Retrieve your golf ball, and find the closest point, no nearer the hole and drop.

RULES TIP OF THE MONTH – MASTER PLAN CONSTRUCTION
An introverted golfer described an Invitational as being asked to a party at the house of someone you have never met with people you have never seen before. Sounds terrifying, right? Although this description captures one aspect of the Invitational, it ignores the crucial element of this golf event– the opportunity to play on a brand-new golf course hosted by the nicest women golfers in the Sucharea. an Invitational was hosted by the LCWGA on July 20 under the watchful eye of Lynne Sergi who pulled off a fabulous event on a limited budget! Forty-six golfers from six golf clubs participated in the Summer Fun nine-holes step aside scramble and were challenged, among other things, by record-high temperatures, a three-step putting contest and a trivia question at each hole like:
1. What year was the beach ball invented?
2. What is the Slurpee capital of the world?
LCWGA THE SUMMER FUN INVITATIONAL
3. Who was the first President to hold a BBQ at the White House? Answers below! When the dust cleared, the event winners were the team of Anne Cantwell (Moorestown Field Club), Eileen Megaw (Ramblewood Country Club) and our own Gloria Duenas who were toasted at the delicious lunch that capped the event. Lynne Sergi was in the second-place team and Sue Studley in the third-place team. Our gratitude to Lynne and all of the volunteers and the Laurel Creek staff who contributed their time and effort (and a large number of the prizes) to this successful event. We congratulate all of the brave participants and the winners and invite you to join us at the next Invitational on September 21 at Tavistock Country Club. Reach out to Lynne at lfsergi@comcast.net.
Finally, a reminder to sign up for the ultimate LCWGA event of the year -- the Member/Guest Tournament on September 28. The deadline for signing up to this fabulous event is September 7. Don’t miss it!

Tom recalls “Nadia and I worked together for about 7 years and she had met my children a number of times since they spent many days in my office during my wife’s illness. When my wife passed away, Nadia was very supportive and offered to help me with my kids, who at that time were 8, 6 and 4.” As Nadia grew close to Tom’s children, his feelings grew stronger for her.
“Our relationship was rooted in family and I couldn’t help but find myself falling in love with her” says Tom. In 2008, Tom and Nadia would tie the knot and 14 months later, their family of five would become six with the birth of a daughter, Aalia. Over the next few years, Nadia would visit Laurel Creek Country Club for several school functions held in the ballroom and spent time at the pool with friends who were members. In early 2019, Nadia mentioned to Tom that they should consider membership and it didn’t take much convincing after her husband played the course. Within months, Tom, Nadia, Thomas JR (TJ), Alexandra (Ally), Madison (Maddie) and Aalia became part of the LC “Wefamily.lovethe staff and all the hard work they put into planning the events all year long” says Nadia. “The holiday brunches are amazing and Tom can’t say enough about the golf course and pro-shop staff”. Tom was asked to join the theplacedtheclub.ambassadorroleyearCommitteeMembershiplastandenjoysthehehasasantothe“Iappreciateresponsibilityonmeandothercommittee members to interview the candidates applying for membership.” Tom continues “it’s an honor and privilege to be part of this committee and look forward to many more years of membership at Laurel Creek.”

In addition to contending with all of this summer’s hot weather, the Master Plan construction has been keeping us on our toes for the past month. While things are progressing smoothly, there are always challenges when working around play, and some areas are easier than others. Installing a new drain line from the right side of #5 to the left involved crossing the fairway.
Currently, work is taking place on #2, 4, 5, and 6. #9 and 15 will be next, completing the bunker work, followed by some tee improvements on #5 and 7.
