MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT How to measure a Croissant?

To draw a croissant, the skills base on the accurate scale and proportion of the croissant and the variety of pencil grades could help to hatch the shadow and the depth of the croissant. The aim of this module focused on enhancing the technical drawing skill and learn how to project axonometric drawings. It is extremely effective to use tracing paper to transfer the scan image into drawing.

NEW MARIO WORLD The making of new Mario world

From the flatness to the projection, I added the top surface of the water and the base with the texture of the sand. I combined the two Mario world by drawing a wooden bridge and adding some characters with interaction. The highlight and the shadow were drawed for the sense of three dimensions. The gradient in the Illustrator was useful for me to render the colour of the the water and the base. I adjusted the lighter colour of the objects from the origional Mario world because the original images were too dark to distinguish the front and the back. Also, the design is based on the concept of an imaginary aquarium. The hidden space represents those characters’ daily life.

PAPER LANDSCAPE

My design and planning for the 3D panelling are derived from the idea of the snowflake. The inspiration is the expanding shape and it is interesting to show this pattern in my module and also fit to my original landscape which is lower in the centre but higher in the edge. I have tried different pattern such as a shape of heart. However, the arrangement looks too random because it does not follow a particular rule.

Cities & the sky 2: BeersheBa

INVISIBLE CITY

I developed the see-through vaults by part of the surface rather than whole curves as I want to make my symbols more clear and obvious. I set up two different space: the higher one is the celestial city which has a light mood and another one is the underground city of imagination with more heavy mood. By adding the symbols, I try to show the movement and the view of Marc Polo. In the higher space, he mostly stared at the decoration of the ceiling and walls while in the lower space, he gave a glance to the the poor scenes and the cracked walls.

PERSPECTIVE ONE

From the story of the celestial city, there is a belief that if terretrial people have virtue and respect toward this sky city, then the two cities will become one. As a result, I created the well-respected characters floating on the cloud, respresenting the pursuit from normal citizens. The city is made of pure gold decorated with leave and flowers.

PERSPECTIVE TWO

As for the underground city, this perspective illustrates the darkness and hopelessness from the angle of the underworld. By adding the waterpipes, the preyer and cracked walls, I desire to bring a stronger sense of poverty and helplessness.

REFLECTION Foundation of Design: Representation is a course that introduce to the architectural world. Each module provides new challenges and experiences to encourage me to develop skills and explore new perspective into design world. Also, I have absorbed the knowledge through those readings and lectures which provide the background of the development of 2D and 3D.

FOUNDATIONS OF DESIGN: REPRESENTATION MODULE 1

From these four projects, I have improved my technical skills through the workshops and the process of design. Especially in module 3, I am more familiar with the panelling tools in Rhino to create my 2D and 3D patterns. Although it gives me a lot of trouble on modelling and unrolling the objects in the beginning, Rhino is an useful software that gives me space to bring my imagination and creativity into reality. I think I should improve my works in further study. Although I spent a lot of time on the works, I am not satisfied with some modules. As a result, I have done some amendments such as

MODULE 2

adding characters and the basement in the Mario world and changing my layout of module 3.

MODULE 3

Overall, I think patience and carefulness play vital role in these modules. Every step should be accurate and in the right position, otherwise the later process will be incorrect and need to be rebuilt. While working through the projects by trying different ways to create my works, the course lets me realize that design is not just a challenge of creativity but also a challenge of patience and passion. All the projects I experience in this subject not only enhance my technical skills but also motivate me to think outside the box and create more incredible designs.
