Money is separated by the use of a decimal point. This point in English is represented by the word “and”. So for example if we have a number 10.56 we would translate this to the following: 10 Pounds and fifty six pence. For the purpose of this task we have used Pounds as a currency but the same principles apply in every currency. If we repeat this task in another currency such as Euros then this would be; 10 Euros and fifty six Cents. At this point its important to demonstrate the pronunciation of units these are shown here:
We will now record this section to help you to practice outside the class room environment. These numbers share one thing in common the sound of the “ty” is likened to “tee”. Larger Numbers There is a significance in identifying with the comma used to separate a thousand from other numbers. We use this in English almost as if it is used grammatically, more like a pause in speech. Let us look at the following example:

There is no other way to master this other than practice so in the following task you will be required to translate figures into words.
Pronunciation of numbers which end with “teen” and “tee” are significant here as these sounds help to define these numbers, practice with following sequence with your teacher: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 This principle is applied to the entire numerical system and is essential to master. 10

Time Another closely related subject is the way that we relate numbers to time. It’s a relatively easier subject as it has a definitive structure.
12.45 can be referred to as twelve forty five or a quarter to one. Both are correct.
At this point it is important to note the prepositions used to separate the parts of a day and these are as follow: In the morning
On the hour is the numerical value so it’s important to master the pronunciation of the sequence 1-12.
In the afternoon
The clock face is divided by every 15 minutes. So we have 15 minutes past an hour, 30 minutes, 45 minutes etc, We can refer to this in two ways for example:

My working week starts __ Monday morning __ 9:00 am. By 10:00am I prioritise my emails and then I set objectives for the day. Tomorrow is __ 09.06.2013 and I have a presentation to prepare for an international client: My manager will not be present so I have do the presentation on my own. I tried to organise the presentation __ __ weekend but I had family visiting so I couldn’t get much done. My manager told me that the presentation had to be held __ Tuesday __ the morning otherwise it would interfere with lunch time hours. The presentation will start __ 11:00 __ the morning and should last about an hour. __ the afternoon I have to test the coding on gaming software. It’s repetitive work and can get a bit boring, I normally have a late lunch __ 3:00 pm, the canteen can be expensive sometimes lunch can cost as much as 8.50 (Pounds) per day so I prefer to go out to a local coffee shop, it’s cheaper there and a decent lunch can cost as little as 5.00 (Pounds). I am planning to buy a new house this year but my budget is only 145,000 (pounds). I have started to view a few but I need a deposit of 49,000 (pounds) to buy it. I need to do some over time to save up. I am hoping to buy it by 15.04.2014 well around that time anyway. London is so expensive, just to get a coffee can cost you as much as 3.75 (pounds) which is too much. In comparison a coffee in Europe only costs 1.20 (euros). Anyway I had better get back to work I have to prepare for my presentation.

Listening skills There are two components to a conversation, the ability to listen and the ability to speak.
Voice Tones These can effect the meaning of your words and should be considered as important as your grammar structures.

Dawn refers to sunrise and if you are lucky enough to see it would require a greeting. This would be Good morning. Early morning is usually between 5 and 9 am and would require the same greeting. A business morning is between 9 am and midday (12pm). As it is still the morning it would require the same greeting. During this time there is a term know as “Brunch� which refers to a very late morning meal. Noon is referred to as midday and this is 12pm. From this point we refer to the greeting as good afternoon. From 12 to 5pm is the afternoon. We can refer to two parts of this time frame; early afternoon and late afternoon. The greeting for this part of the day is; good afternoon. The evening starts at 5pm and finishes at 8pm (depends on where you are) and the greeting here is; good evening. You can refer to this in two parts early evening and late evening. Dinner time is around 7pm but this can vary. Traditionally night time is after 9pm and we only apply the greeting goodnight. Traditionally working hours in the United Kingdom is between 9am and 5pm with lunch hours ranging between 1 and 3pm. Working hours vary and depend on the organisation.

Greetings Voice tones used in the English language reflect “empathetic values”. Useful phrases for casual greetings in English: • Hello • Hi • Good morning • Good afternoon • Good evening
Practice these greetings with your teacher to ensure that they sound genuine in terms of empathetic value. Voice tones are very important here as the wrong tone can make you sound arrogant or rude. These greetings are valuable in both informal and formal context so if practiced can display the way that you feel and add value to your sound. These greetings do not change when using a phone, it’s important that you realise the importance as a phone prevents supported features like facial expressions, body posture, eye contact and gestures. These traits must be reflected by your voice on the phone, a great asset to your professional life.
