Top 3 staycation spots in 2024 By Mandy Carter In recent times, the concept of vacationing has shifted gears, placing greater emphasis on staycations—those luxurious getaways close to home that offer a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure for families. Here are three staycation locations that my family recommends for those looking for a close getaway this year! Crane’s Beach Nestled in the heart of Delray Beach, Crane's Beach House epitomizes the essence of a hidden tropical paradise. This boutique hotel boasts captures the blend of old-world charm and modern amenities. The intimate setting of this resort offers an escape from the bustling city life around it, welcoming guests with lush gardens, serene courtyards, and two small but inviting pools. With only 28 rooms and suites, Crane's Beach ensures personalized attention to each guest. The beautiful accommodations exude a relaxed beach vibe, featuring private balconies or patios, cozy furnishings, and soothing decor. Beyond the comfort of the resort, guests can explore easily on foot Delray Beach's vibrant art scene, savor delectable cuisine at local eateries, or simply bask in the sun at the nearby pristine beaches. Oceans Edge Perched on the secluded Stock Island, Oceans Edge Key West Resort, Hotel & Marina offers a luxurious escape with panoramic views of the serene ocean. This sprawling resort comprises 175 spacious guestrooms and suites, each thoughtfully designed to provide utmost comfort and relaxation. The resort features six swimming pools, a fitness center, recreation hut for outdoor activities and onsite dining. Guests get complimentary usage of bikes, kayaks or paddleboards to explore the beautiful surroundings. A short drive from the resort is the lively streets of Key West. Oceans Edge provides a serene retreat while allowing easy access via a hotel shuttle to the island's famous attractions, including Duval Street and Mallory Square.

Oceans Edge 6 - February 2024

Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa Nestled amidst lush greenery and overlooking Estero Bay, the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs is an oasis of luxury and tranquility practically in our backyards. This sprawling resort is 26 acres of tropical paradise and offers a wide array of amenities for a memorable family staycation. Guest rooms are spacious, clean and modern. The resort features three-acre poolscape with a private waterpark featuring multiple waterslides and a lazy river, heated adults-only pool, hot tub, walk-in adventure pool, and cool waterfall pool. Plus you will have access to the nearby beach via their boat transportation! And if the adults are looking for some pampering time, a visit to their rejuvenating spa is a must for ultimate relaxation. Great restaurants onsite too making it the perfect staycation spot because you don’t have to leave for anything! One of my favorite things about living in Florida is the abundance of great staycation opportunities. Crane's Beach Resort, Oceans Edge Key West Resort, and Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa are three that should make your list for nearby escapes in 2024. Whether it's the tranquil beaches, luxurious amenities, or proximity to local attractions, these

top-tier hotels invite guests to indulge in the ultimate staycation experience within the Sunshine State. Mandy Michelle Carter ... Just a SWFL mom living the dream. She loves to inspire parents to spend authentic time with your kids and to chase your own dreams unapologetically! Found on Instagram @mandymcarter and her family blog at Acupful.com.

Taking care of a newborn Dr. Melanie Coombs-Bynum So you just brought your new baby home from the hospital, and you don’t know what to do. Remember that taking care of a newborn isn’t rocket science, let us not make it too complicated. Newborns have spent their entire existence in their mother’s womb in a small environment, that is warm (body temperature), dark, and surrounded by the constant sounds of their mom’s blood flow and heartbeat. Once they are born, they are suddenly disconnected from all they have 36 - February 2024

known. It is cold, there are bright lights everywhere; they can no longer hear their mother’s heartbeat or blood flow, and their arms and legs are everywhere. So swaddle them in a thin blanket to keep them warm and their arms close; put your baby skin to skin with either mom or dad so they can feel warm and connected to you. These things go a long way to consoling your newborn and calming them down. Dress your new baby as you would yourself. If you’re cold then dress them warm and vice versa. Use thin receiving blankets with babies, muslin blankets work great. When it comes to feeding, whether breastfeeding or formula feeding, just feed them on demand. Most breastfeeding babies will feed 10 - 15 minutes each breast every 1-3 hrs and formula babies take 2 – 3 oz. every 2 - 3 hours. Don’t expect your baby to sleep

through the night anytime soon. They will feed every 2 - 3 hours during the day and night for several months. There is no need to supplement their diet with cereal to help them sleep. Milk is all they need. When they do sleep, which is a lot, they should sleep on their backs to decrease the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). They should sleep in their own space on a firm surface. There should be no loose blankets in their sleep area, and no pillows or stuffed animals. Only the baby should be in the crib or bassinet. You may swaddle your newborn, but it should be a tight swaddle so that it doesn’t loosen and cover their face. Melanie Coombs-Bynum, M.D., is with Physicians’ Primary Care of Southwest Florida) with offices throughout Lee County. www.ppcswfl.com Family News
