Let’s Pre-Party! Everyone Loves A Parade
Here we go again...round two, ugh! Whether it be the pre-party or “THE” party, everyone loves a parade! Birthday parties have looked a lot different over the past year. We know that our children’s safety is very important to us, but we can not leave off exciting milestones in their life. To a child, birthdays are their big day! A day to shine and feel special.
1. The Plan Hosting a drive by parade is a great way to remain connected with your children’s friends. A birthday parade can be a surprise or not - just make sure you plan it so that the guest of honor is ready to watch and enjoy! Your party’s plan can be detailed on a cute digital invitation complete with a parade map. Remember - (Who, What, Where and When) leaving out simple details can create chaos. If the parade is just a convoy to the party destination, you must have both the house address and the venue address listed with a suggested time for each.
2. Participation Award Have a decorated “thank you” station close to the road. The birthday child will enjoy handing their family and friends an award for being a special part of their birthday. This moment may be the perfect time for the gift exchange.
3. The Guest List Contact your child’s teacher and invite the whole class to be a part of the festivities. You may want to consider inviting the fire department, police, neighborhood security, food trucks, clowns, characters and of course, our favorite furry friends!
#we _love_stickers
4. Drive-By Etiquette Beware of the danger of distractions! Especially if there are “walkers, bikers and wagons” between cars. Social distancing is not just for us humans, cars must adhere to the proper distance protocol as well. Designate a lead car at the predetermined staging area - and spread out!
10 - September 2021
5. Loud, Bright and Fun! Banners and balloons, and turn up the tunes!!! Tell parade participants to create personalized signs and decorate the cars with birthday well wishes. Encourage them to gently toss yummy candy or small presents out the window for the birthday child to catch and gather.
It is a parade! Family News

Sizzle Dining Sept. 9-29 The tastiest 21-day event in Southwest Florida is back for its sixth year (founded in 2016). The 2021 Sizzle Dining (Restaurant Week) event will take place from Sept. 9 – 29 with 30 plus participating restaurants from Cape Coral down to Marco Island and everywhere tasty in-between. Now only held once a year, Sizzle Dining is now a three-week long, annual, community-driven event that celebrates the culinary landscape in both Lee and Collier counties by offering three-course, prix-fixe meals to local residents and visitors. Showing support has never been so delicious! Restaurants can offer either takeout, delivery, curbside or indoor/outdoor dining, as permissible by public health guidelines. Our growing food scene has a lot to celebrate, and this event encourages people to check out new-to-them restaurants, including some of the smaller, independent restaurants we need for our food culture to thrive. Each of the participating restaurants will offer a delicious three-course prix fixe din18 - September 2021
ner menu for either $29 or $39 (depending on location) some with special upgrades. Some restaurants may also offer a 2-course prix fixe lunch menu for just $19 or $24, and/or a brunch menu for $24 or $29. For every Sizzle Dining meal purchased during the three-week event, each participating restaurant will donate $1 directly to Blessings in a Backpack SWFL, a local 501c3 charity that feeds food insecure elementary students every weekend during the school year. #DineWithPurpose Sizzle Dining highlights and strengthens our local destination’s brand and culinary reputation. Attracting tourists to the area increases business for hotels, shopping centers, entertainment, and other local businesses. Everyone benefits from this impact, and all the restaurants that participate see increased traffic and many new faces during the event. For more information about Sizzle Dining and to view the participating restaurant menus, visit www.SizzleDining.com. Participating restaurants and menus will be updated as they are received.

By Maureen Chodaba Breast cancer is a terrible disease that has affected so many people in so many horrific ways. Like a thief in the night, it has stolen the lives of so many we love among our family and friends, both men and women. The American Cancer Society invites you to join us in stealing back from this thief the evening of Oct. 2 at 5 p.m. at Paradise Coast Sports Complex, 3940 City Gate Blvd. S N, Naples, for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC). Chaired by Merry Coffman and Robin Rosario, the 2021 MSABC of Southwest Florida will be an event like no other. Funds raised through the Making Strides movement have allowed ACS to support breast cancer patients and their loved ones in times when they have needed it the most – even during the global pandemic. Currently, more than $76 million has been invested in breast cancer research grants. More than 134 million visitors have used our website, www.cancer.org for the latest information and facts about cancer, while ACS has responded to more than 1.4 million informa-
tion requests through our helpline and chat services. Event emcees Lindsey Sablan and Lois Thome of WINK News will be there to cheer on our survivors, caregivers, and all participants as we make our strides around this amazing new venue. Enjoy refreshments at various food trucks and stations while you shop the trunk sale by Kendra Scott, Naples’ custom jewelry designer dedicated to “Family, Fashion and Philanthropy/.” Sign up to participate as a team or individual by Sept. 10 and receive a complimentary voucher for a sightseeing cruise aboard M/V Double Sunshine with Pure Florida at historic Tin City. Free autism screening for young children Sept. 24 Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southwest Florida, offers a free monthly autism spectrum disorder screening for toddlers 18 months to five years of age. The next screening will be held on Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pediatric Specialist Office, 15901 Bass Rd, Suite 102, Fort Myers. It is estimated that one in every 59 28 - September 2021
children is diagnosed with some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. Medical consultants for the project stress that an early diagnosis can make a vast difference for toddlers and their families. They say early intensive behavioral intervention can make an immense difference not just in the development of the
child, but in their families as well. The ASD screening is conducted by the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The screenings are administered by an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, who has extensive training and experience in typical child development and developmental disorders. A physician referral is not required. To schedule a screening, call 239-343-6838. Family News

City of Palms Youth Choir seeks singers The City of Palms Youth Choir of the Fort Myers Mastersingers is now recruiting young singers for their upcoming sixth season. Rehearsals are held weekly on Tuesday evenings at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers. The City of Palms Youth Choir is an auditioned choral program for singers grades 2 - 12 that provides young singers valuable artistic, vocal and performance experience. Past seasons have included performances at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall, performances with the Gulf Coast Symphony, and world-premiere performances. Singers have the opportunity to enhance their vocal skills and make new friends along the way. The City of Palms Youth Choir was formed by the Fort Myers Mastersingers over five years ago in order to provide singing opportunities for young people as funding for arts programs in public schools 30 - September 2021
began to decrease. Rehearsals are conducted by director Matt Koller and accompanied by Mastersingers pianist Janet Carter. Warm-ups, vocal technique, rhythm and ensemble skills are part of each rehearsal. The City of Palms Youth Choir season begins in September and continues through April. Dues for the season are $250 which covers all administrative and music fees. For more information, contact Matt Koller at 239770-1575 or at cityofpalmsyouthchoir@gmail.com. Family News
