Traditional Business Blogging Ineffective In 2016 By Susan Hamilton It’s time to declare that traditional business blogging is ineffective and, I would argue, quite dead. I’ve taught business blogging to entrepreneurs and business owners all over America since 2006. During the early days of website search, business blogging was an important tool to help customers understand our companies and, in effect, pre-screen us to their satisfaction.
becomes an authority. It changes the game entirely. Where content is available has become as important as the piece itself. I call this authority branding. Friends, we make our own celebrity. We ARE the media in 2016! For very low cost, you have the ability to share your marketing messages, tips and how-tos through audio, video, articles and ads. Your customers can decide if they like you or not in their preferred content type. Hands down, that’s the internet. Corporate marketing engines understand this and have anticipated - even encouraged - this trend, and our companies need to be able to ride this wave until the newer mediums show themselves. Social platforms are changing by the minute, and so do the taste buds of those who enjoy it. Companies that are not available in audio, video and article format are shortchanging themselves, and it’s a dangerous position to be in.
It worked well for a season, but today, we’re not digging as deep as we used to. We just want to know exactly what we want to know and that’s it. Having a blog still has relevance. As a media library of sorts, a blog gives your website several pages of ‘depth’ and for large ticket products and services, a well-set up blog that includes images, easy to understand categories and a mix of mediums like audio, video and text none will argue that those resources don’t dispel doubt and back up the sale. Yes, they do. But online content goes further than that, and it’s important to not become so set in our patterns that we neglect to explore the ways we can do the same thing BETTER.
Think of it like high school math. You needed to understand the basics of addition and subtraction before you could move on to more complex algebraic expression. Using the same logic, in the future it will be very hard to keep up in the internet space if we are not currently using the channels available to us today.
For instance, if a certain article, podcast, video or ad is merely on the producer’s website, one can assume the company knows how to produce that content, and to a degree, a viewer is likely to assume that company is more knowledgeable and more ‘current’ than a competitor’s website that doesn’t offer that range or quality of content.
Susan Hamilton is the founder, host and editor-inchief of The OffBeat Business Show & Magazine, a digital media company that helps create strong branding for an American business for business market. Think you’re only B2C? Think again! Call 214714-0495 to discover how authority branding techniques work for YOU.
But if that same content is offered up through a third-party resource that is known for sharing big names, the content becomes even more credible, and the author

The Top 10 Reasons You Can’t Lose Weight That the Experts Haven’t Told You By Betty Murray
Are you stuck in a weight loss rut, or a cycle of weight loss/weight gain/weight loss/weight gain? If you are struggling to lose weight and keep it off—and if you are, you’re no doubt frustrated—your inability to shed those unwanted pounds might be due to one or more of these factors. Here are the top 10 reasons you aren’t losing weight: 1. You are eating a one-size-fits-all-diet without taking into consideration, the diet your genetics was designed to eat. Genetics may predispose you to being overweight or obese. There are several genetic mutations that can cause weight gain, and it’s by understanding these mutations and which, if any, you may have, that you can find the right gene-based diet that is tailored to your genetic predispositions, such as metabolism and taste preferences, to help you lose more weight and keep it off. 2. You think your weight loss resistance is because your metabolism is slow and you must have a slow thyroid. Slow metabolism and slow thyroid may contribute to weight gain, but the answer to your weight loss resistance may actually be found in your hormones, four in particular: adiponectin, ghrelin, insulin, and cortisol. Here is an explanation of how these four hormones affect weight gain, from Dr. Steven Sisskind, founder of RealDose Nutrition. Adiponectin — This is the hormone that tells your body to burn fat for fuel. Not enough adiponectin and you will find it more difficult to melt away unwanted fat and keep a slim waistline. The more fat you have, the less adiponectin, so if you need to burn fat, you’ve got to boost adiponectin levels. To do so, first increase your metabolism intake. Ghrelin — Also known as the hunger hormone, ghrelin is the hormone that tells your body you are hungry and causes cravings. Ghrelin also activates the brain’s positive response to sweet and fatty foods. It’s easy to see how too much ghrelin could be a problem. The good news is that lowering ghrelin can be as simple as getting more sleep. Research shows that sleep deprivation increases ghrelin levels and more body fat storage. If you aren’t getting between six and eight hours of sleep a night, it’s time to adjust your schedule to give your body the rest it needs and you’ll notice a difference around your middle.
Insulin — Insulin resistance or imbalance causes excess glucose (sugar) in the body. An insulin imbalance isn’t necessarily a sure sign you are diabetic, but it does mean that your body is not effective at lowering blood sugar levels. If you have insulin resistance, losing fat can be next to impossible, but one simple trick may help your body better metabolize carbs and reduce blood glucose levels. One study suggests that consuming two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before a high-carb meal will significantly reduce blood glucose levels and may even be as effective as prescription drugs at regulating blood sugar. Cortisol — Also known as the stress hormone, cortisol is produced in response to stress. Excess cortisol levels will increase your cravings for sweets and carbs and cause you to feel constantly hungry. Cortisol also causes your body to break down muscle tissue instead of fat, for energy, which isn’t doing anything for your waistline as the more muscle you have, the more effective your body will be at burning fat. High cortisol levels can also cause the body to store more fat in the abdominal area and has also been linked to depression in both children and adults. If your cortisol levels are out of whack, cut out caffeine, get more exercise, and practice breathing exercises to reduce your stress level. 3. Your gut bacteria—the microbiome—and antibiotic use has made your gut a fat making machine. Changes in gut bacteria can raise or lower the efficiency of your body’s digestive system. Antibiotics are used to accelerate weight gain in livestock, and antibiotics may be doing the same thing to you. In a study comparing normal mice to mice with a genetic defect rendering them unable to produce lymphotoxin—a molecule that regulates interactions between the immune system and gut bacteria—the mice lacking lymphotoxin did not gain extra weight, even on a high-fat diet, while the mice that did produce lymphotoxin gained more weight. What does this mean? Essentially, an increase in good bacteria in the gut is correlated with weight loss (or at least not gaining weight). The fewer bacteria you have in your gut, the more likely you are to gain weight. 4. You may have genetic mutations in how your body metabolizes amino acids — proteins—and the CBS genes that may lead to weight gain. People with high levels of the amino acid cysteine carry 6-10 kilograms more fat than people with low cysteine levels. It is not clear if cysteine levels are determined purely by genetics, or if diet also influences cysteine. Research on this could help to prevent and treat life-threatening obesity.
Studies have found that mice with lowered cysteine levels are able to shed more fat than mice with elevated levels of the amino acid. 5. You have restricted calories so much that your body thinks it is starving, thus decreasing metabolism and increasing weight gain. Starving yourself isn’t the way to lose weight. Start your day with a healthy, balanced breakfast and eat nutritious snacks and meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism burning fat. If your body thinks it isn’t getting enough food to use as energy, it will begin to burn muscle, which can also decrease weight loss because the more muscle you have, the more effective your body is at burning fat. 6. Your immune system and inflammation are creating a toxic environment telling the body to make more fat. Irritation of the immune system and inflammation in the gut can trigger a defense mechanism that causes your body to store more fat. To effectively lose weight and keep it of, you must eliminate the foods that may be causing inflammation in your gut. Foods that are known to irritate the immune system and cause inflammation include gluten, dairy, corn, eggs, soy, nuts, nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant), citrus fruits, and yeast. Many people have allergies or sensitivities to these foods, which can cause chronic inflammation leading to an epidemic of inflammatory diseases like autoimmune disease, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, dementia, and obesity. By reducing or eliminating these foods from your diet, you can remove the irritants that are causing inflammation that are making you fat and sick. 7. You ignore the impact your sleep has on your waistline. If you aren’t sleeping enough, your body produces more of the hunger hormone, ghrelin. People who sleep less tend to eat more and are more likely to give into cravings. Even adults need six to eight hours of sleep at night, and most aren’t getting nearly enough. On the flip side, getting too much sleep can also cause weight gain, so make getting the right amount of sleep a priority if you want to lose weight. 8. Your brain chemistry—neurotransmitters—is out of balance and is directing the body to store fat. Neurotransmitters are the hormones of the brain. For optimal health, these neurotransmitters need to be in balance. Poor diet, stress, and genetics can throw your brain chemistry out of whack, leading to weight gain. While you may not be able to do anything about your genetics, there are things you can do to stay balanced. To keep your brain chemistry balanced, be sure you aren’t lacking in nutrition, avoid high fat, high sugar, addictive foods, and keep your stress level in check.
9. You are trying to exercise away a bad diet. Weight loss is 80 percent nutrition and 20 percent fitness, but many people have this ratio backwards. In your youth, you may have been able to eat whatever you wanted without gaining a pound. But things just aren’t the same in adulthood. With the exception of professional athletes, most adults will have a hard time working off the excess calories consumed in a cheeseburger, fries, and milkshake. No matter how much you are working out, a bad diet will catch up to you. 10. Your innocent wine with dinner or drinks with friends on the weekend, is completely undoing your hard work.
When not consumed in moderation (one to two drinks per week), alcohol will derail any attempt to lose weight. So what constitutes a drink of alcohol? One drink equals: • 12 fluid ounces of beer • 1.5 fluid ounces of an 80-proof/40% drink like vodka or whiskey • 5 fluid ounces of wine Each of these is about 15 grams of ethanol alcohol—which researchers consider one drink—and anywhere between 64 and 250 calories. Watch out for mixed drinks as they often contain far more calories.
It’s not just the calories in alcohol that can stop you from losing weight. Your body will essentially burn off the alcohol in your system before it burns off anything else. What that means is that while the alcohol may be burned off, carbs and fat you consume when you drink are more likely to be stored as fat. Too much alcohol can also decrease your motivation to exercise and disrupt your sleep, which will also affect weight loss.
Alcohol in moderation does have some health benefits, such as increasing insulin sensitivity and decreasing risk of dying from heart disease or cancer, but remember that moderation means one to two glasses per week, not per day! Some of these factors, such as genetic mutations, may take medical testing and help from your doctor to pinpoint and get under control, but you can make lifestyle changes to address many of these factors on your own. Start by making one or two small changes, and gradually alter your lifestyle to maximize your weight loss and ultimately, your health.

Oh Fiddlesticks! It’s Time to Diet AGAIN! By Ashly Torian
Diet is typically a four-letter word in most people’s book. It brings on angst and discomfort. The knowledge that restriction is right around the corner is troublesome for most. This discomfort and angst brings on more weight gain.
living in a body you love at a healthy weight. FEAR is the enemy, NOT FOOD. The two main reasons people go on a diet in the first place, are: 1. To lose weight 2. Health issues Both of these are very good reasons, however, diets do not give these results for the long term. Why? Because very few people can live with this type of restriction day in and day out. In fact, 98% of those that go on a diet for the sole purpose to lose weight, gain it back within two years. Eliminating foods that they love, living under the stress of the number on the scale, and knowing this isn’t the last time, is more than the human psyche can take.
It is astounding that this feeling around diet causes more health issues then the action itself.
Remember, what you think about is what you create. This environment dieting creates is a stress pool. And STRESS causes a collection of adipose tissue (fat) around the waistline. So the big question is: Why diet in the first place?
The quote, “The mind is everything, what you think you become,” is very true in this case. (Buddha) Or Wayne Dyer, “Keeping reminding yourself: I get what I think about, whether I want it or not.” If dieting is your MO for each new year, then this is the merry-go-round of your creation. “OUCH!” I know that hits close to home, so here is the break down.
Are you ready to try something new? These criteria of eating works for those who experience:
If all you think about is dieting, then you will live on a diet each year. Your body will create this need via weight gain or inability to lose weight. The great fear and what I hear all the time is, “If I don’t diet, I will be big as a house,” or “If I don’t restrict my foods, then I will go hog wild and over eat.” This very fear is what is keeping you from
Overeating Binge eating Excessive dieting Restriction Fear of food
You name it … the following steps will repair your relationship with food, so you will see it as a friend instead of an enemy that 17
causes weight gain, social issues, depression, anxiousness, frustration, despair … just to name a few.
have just given yourself the perfect portion control mechanism. 3. Protein and Essential Fat are the Keys to Satisfaction
Food is actually your friend, comforter, and nourisher. Food is grounding; it lets you know you are alive. So, how can it be bad?
Eat a protein and essential fat at every meal and you will feel satisfied. If you experience hunger shortly after eating, most likely protein and essential fat were not a part of that meal. These two macro-nutrients are key to weight loss efforts and energy.
Here are three actions you can take this NEW YEAR that will END the need for dieting in your life. 1. Check to see if you are breathing!
Protein, such as lean meat, fish, and eggs, builds lean tissue and lasting energy. The greater amount of lean tissue on the body, the more calories the body will burn at rest.
I know this sounds funny; of course, you are breathing. You wouldn’t be able to read this article if you weren’t. However, assess HOW you are breathing. Short and shallow or long and deep? Long and deep is the way to go.
Essential fats are key to our health. These include nuts and seeds in all forms, butters, oils in their whole state, olives, avocado, and coconut. Not only do they give us healthy skin and nails and a plethora of other vital needs, but also much satisfaction. When we experience satisfaction with food, we tend to not overeat.
When you breathe short and shallow, the body actually goes in to a stressed state. The blood is shunted away from the gut and into the arms legs and head, so you can think fast and move with herculean strength and speed. When the blood is no longer in the gut region, digestion slows down, the body burns muscle for energy and stores fat.
The point is, change the way YOU show up with food and food will give you the results you desire; energy, vitality, satisfaction and pleasure.
If you want to burn fat while reading this article, then I suggest breathing slow and deep. 2. Eat at a snail’s pace and enjoy the scenery! Yes, you have heard this before, “Slow down and you won’t eat as much.” Did you listen? The reason is to stimulate the head phase of digestion, your senses, and to wake up the gut brain. Doing this will increase your digestive power by 40-60 percent and you do not eat as much so you

Successful Entrepreneurs Talk “Be undeniably good. No marketing effort or social media buzzword can be a substitute for that.” –Anthony Volodkin founder of HypeMachine
1. What ignited the spark in you to start a new business venture or to make significant changes in an existing business? I started my business 6 years ago because I wanted to empower women. I kept having the same dream that I was styling women and increasing their self-esteem, so I researched what I had to do to create a personal shopping business and I made it happen. Originally, I thought that it was going to be a hobby or part-time business, but overtime I realized that I needed to pursue it fulltime. 2. If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently? If I had the chance to start this journey over again I would definitely have saved more capital. I was coming out of pocket quite a bit and started my business with literally nothing. If I would have saved more, then I could have sped up the process and put better systems in place for me to have gained more clientele quickly and to hire the help that I needed to really launch my business. 3. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? 1) Persistence, 2) Patience 3) Authenticity 4. What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them? My first failure was not learning the power in delegation. I did not trust many people with “my baby” (my business) so I tried to do everything myself. This hurt me eventually in the end because it costs me clients, potential opportunities, and the time that I needed to invest into other areas of my business. Once I learned how to delegate and began hiring help, I realized how much growth my business could have had early on if I just would have trusted that there were other people that I could bring on to take on some of the burden and do the job just as good, or better than me. Another was succumbing to fear and becoming paralyzed at asking for the things that I truly wanted. I didn’t want people to think that I was pushy or that I thought that I was better than what I was. But I learned that there were people far less talented and less business savvy who were asking for everything under the sun and getting the opportunities that I wanted because they were fearless and they weren’t afraid of hearing “no.” Now that I have thicker skin and I know my worth as a business owner and in what I’m doing, I ask for what I want, I go after multiple opportunities, and I look at “no” as a blessing because an even bigger door will open up eventually down the road. “Don’t be intimidated by what you don’t know. That can be your greatest strength and ensure that you do things differently from everyone else.” Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx 1. How did the idea for your business come about? Since I was a young girl I had a desire for healthy living and being fit. I loved to move, tumble, jump and run. I thought I wanted to be in fashion. But when I was in college, I realized I could major in an area that truly fed my soul; a desire to help and guide others in living a healthy lifestyle. While there at ACU, I developed an aerobic class that was offered to all students; 12 classes for only $5.00/month. I knew then that I was going to create and open my own business. 2. How do you find people to bring into your organization that truly care about the organization the way you do? I look for those that are truly ready to make a change in their life. Ones that desire to live free in a body they love. 3. What motivates you? How do you generate new ideas? I love to go on walks. This is where I create my programs, write articles or put deep thought in to a solution for a client. I have my recorder in hand and talk away. The ideas and solutions come pouring in. Love my time outdoors!! 4. What has been your most satisfying moment in business? When I get to experience my clients ah-ah moments. It is so inspiring to see them light up w awareness, love and joy for themselves and their life. Believe in yourself and what you have to offer the world. Don't give up on you; embrace a “never quit” attitude. You CAN do this! Believe in yourself and what you have to offer the world. Don't give up on you; embrace a “never quit” attitude. You CAN do this! Ashly Torian, www.ashlytorian.com, info@ashlytorian.com, 214-682-9867

“To any entrepreneur: if you want to do it, do it now. If you don’t, you’re going to regret it.” - Catherine Cook, co-founder of MyYearbook.
1. How did the idea for your business come about? When I first started my entrepreneurial journey cover 16 years ago, I started working with professional speakers and trainers. My company at that time was a professional speaker management agency which found and contracted speaking engagements for our clients, handled their travel arrangements, arranged their book orders, pursued press related opportunities for them and we managed their calendars for them. It was great business and I learned more than I can share. However, I realized that by handling everything for our clients, we placed them at a disadvantage because they never saw our processes. They did not know how to really market themselves in their own markets. So when we closed that business, they had to learn how to market themselves and that was challenging for them. Truthfully, I did not feel good about that. While we were highly successful, I realized going forward that I wanted to make sure that any client I work with will know how to effectively brand and market themselves. That decision propelled me into the best decision I have ever made. That is launching UImpact,LLC, a company where I mentor and coach business owners on how to strategically develop their brand and learn how to market themselves and their business. 2. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? The top three skills I would recommend are: 1.) Discipline. The most successful entrepreneurs tend to be ones that master their areas of focus intentionally. There will always be additional streams of income, and great opportunities that you can purpose. However, eliminating any hindrances and distractions allows you to focus on your path to accomplish what you set out to do. 2.) Appetite for Learning. When you stop being open to honing your craft you run the chances of becoming stagnant and you cause a disservice your clients by not challenging yourself. Be open to challenging your knowledge. Be open to taking what you used to do and updating it to reflect where your audience may be at this time. 3.) Knowing Your Worth. Each day entrepreneurs are bombarded with images of success, reading about what others are accomplishing and often times comparing where they are with what they see others doing. You have to develop a strong sense of confidence in your skills. If you are unsure of your worth, then it will show up in what you do, in what you say and in how you approach your business. You have to know that you are skilled in your areas of focus. You know that whoever is meant to work with you, will work with you. If you allow your confidence to get shaken, you will be building a business on shaky ground. Know that what you are gifted to do will grow and keep being intentional about developing your gift.
3. What motivates you? How do you generate new ideas? I am motivated by many things. The main thing is ensuring that my family is positioned to have a life of options. I am motivated when I see those that I am blessed to work create income that changes the direction of their families. I am motivated by seeing people who thought they could pursue an avenue; realize that not only can they pursue it they can enjoy the journey. Lastly, I motivated by the fact that I know God has blessed me in a unique way to do what I do and I don’t take that gift lightly. So I cherish what I am gifted with, I cherish the clients I get to work with each day and I cherish helping families step into new ways of living and being. That excites me because when you are fully doing what makes your heart sing, you live each day with a sense of direction and commitment. There is no one way that I generate ideas. Sometimes I get in my car and I just go driving and I look at what inspires me. I may see a stop sign and from that sign I can come up with a new blog, new podcast or a new way of teaching. I may see someone being nice to a perfect stranger and from that interaction I see business lessons that I can build up on. I also attend events that are not catered to the entrepreneur but are more industry based so that I can get inspired by what other industries are doing. I love fresh and new concepts because that keeps me in a place of creativity as it relates to my clients. I truly believe everything around you can open you to being creative and help you generate new ideas. Think about your clients; what do they need, what areas can you challenge them in, how do they like to learn, how do they like to interact, etc…answer those questions and see how you can take what you do now and elevate it. 4. If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently? In the beginning I spent too much time, money and tears trying to fit a mold of what a business woman in my industry looked like in terms of how she built her business. I was only 21 years old and I did not have a clue of what to do. I had so many “advisors” telling me what I should do to the point that I got lost in what I needed to focus on. I lost my voice. I lost my creative. I lost my initial excitement because I was trying to implement everything. These advisors were not in the business I was in and while they were truly trying to assist me since, I realized the value of seeking counsel from those that understand the industry I am in. It was not until I invested in a great coach, did I start to realize the value of my unique thumbprint on how I conduct business. If hiring a business coach is not for you, I would highly suggest identify what you feel you need to learn the most and find what events or trainings that will aid you in developing those areas.
Never get tired of learning and growing your skills. When I hear an entrepreneur state that they don’t attend events because they feel they have heard it all before, it concerns me. The reason is that; things change rapidly in business, your audience is constantly changing, and as you grow in business your approaches will change. What you may have known before may be applied differently today. So I encourage you to be intentional about growing and learning.

1. What ignited the spark in you to start a new business venture or to make significant changes in an existing business? My business started by accident. I was tired of the corporate world and answered an ad to help a small business write a business plan. From there I saw there was a lot of businesses that had an idea for a business put really didn’t know where to start, or what to focus on. 2. If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently? I’d work less and enjoy life more. 3. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? Passion, surround yourself with the right people, and patience. 4. What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them? I’m not sure I look as anything as a failure. Some things didn’t work as I would have hoped, but they were a learning experience. I guess you need to try everything once and always have a backup plan.
Barb Gatti, Marketing Successories
"Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning." – Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft.
1. What ignited the spark in you to start a new business venture or to make significant changes in an existing business? I was fed up with working in Corporate America and frustrated with the lack of fashion for full figure women. I went on vacation in Hawaii and found a store that was great, and that is when I knew I had to open a Boutique for full figure women that carried unique fashions you wouldn't find in the chain stores. Over the past 11 years, I have realized that everything I did before this was preparing me for this adventure. 2. If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently? Hind sight is 20/20. Not sure I would do anything differently. Our journey is leading us to the next place. I just try to continue to learn from every mistake and do better going forward. If I had done something differently, no telling where I would be today. No guarantees in life. 3. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? Be an Optimist. Be organized. Be willing to ask for help. 4. What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them? Hiring the wrong people. Should have checked more references. Always continue to interview. Pay very close attention to your budget. If not, you throw your profit out the window.
Don't listen to the naysayers, listen to your heart. For every no you get, you are that much closer to a yes.

Successful Entrepreneurs Talk
Happiness is yours, peace is within your reach, and self-awareness is just a short journey away. You don’t have to wait
…for the right time, …the perfect scenario, or …for someone else’s permission to experience a deep and satisfying relationship with yourself.
I know that you have a desire to connect with your spirit. The only thing is…
you might not know how you’re struggling to keep your head above water you’re wondering, “Is this all there is?”
After many years on my journey I know this much to be true: To truly achieve inner fulfillment and fully accept who you are, you can’t rely on other people’s expectations of who you should be. Happiness comes when you focus on yourself…authentically…with every breath you take.

I’m Kathryn Eriksen. I’m an author, a transformational-change speaker/trainer, and a story alchemist with a Phd in Heart Dancing. I help people who’ve tried everything else, joined every program, and become a member of every website, open their hearts and find the path to happiness. I want to show you how to practice the art of Heart Dancing. I know that life is a mirror of your inner world and that your thoughts and beliefs are reflected back to you in a physical form. I believe that in life’s cause and effect equation, you stand firmly on the “cause” side (though you might not realize it). Heart Dancing is the way to remember your power, harness your energy, and start to create a life you love. For many years I was a successful lawyer, but I left the high-strung, high-stakes, highstress legal world to seek my own truth. I became a student and certified trainer of Infinite Possibilities because I know what it’s like to feel that life is happening to you, not through you. My journey toward self-discovery has shown me that:
I am a creator of my own world. I can rewrite my stories, release the pain and see life with clarity and vision.. I hold my own power. With this new viewpoint, I began to see the world through a different lens. I took these new philosophies and used them as the inspiration to write and publish two novels, as well as create courses about how to move and sway on a heart-centered journey through life.
By taking my courses, listening to my radio show, or reading my book (Heart Dancing: A Story Alchemy Adventure), you’ll discover how to reclaim your power and become a creator in life’s equation. Your life will begin to flow from your heart and you will dance with inspiration, intuition, and imagination. You will learn to create your own definition of success. As you begin to live it, your heart will sing and more of what you desire will naturally flow toward you. Your life will begin to feel magical, joyous and authentic, because you are listening to the music of your heart, not the messages from your mind.

On the Forefront of Revolutionary Options for Women’s Health Vaginal dryness and painful intercourse (also known as dyspareunia) are also very common symptoms of menopause and can be debilitating. This often interferes with a couple’s ability to remain intimate and can create significant stress and strain on relationships. Traditional treatments have focused on vaginal estrogen therapy in the form of either creams, vaginal tablets or vaginal rings. Women often tire of the need for consistent usage and the fact that these treatments are often “messy” so they tend to stop over a period of time. There is now a new oral medication as well which is taken on a daily basis but again requires daily usage and has the potential for side effects. These options are also somewhat variable in their effectiveness. Enter a completely novel approach to treating postmenopausal vaginal symptoms! The MonaLisa Touch™ is a new COᴤ laser which offers a brief in office procedure to treat these symptoms. Recommendations are three treatments 6 weeks apart with each treatment lasting only 3-5 minutes. The laser stimulates the vaginal walls to produce collagen which restores the moisture and elasticity to the vagina. Over 5000 patients have been treated worldwide with up to 18 month follow-up showing significant improvement. There is no need for anesthesia and no downtime associated with the laser therapy. You can resume normal activities immediately. It is recommended to abstain from intercourse for 48 hours but there are no other limitations. There is no significant discomfort associated with the treatment as well. Many women describe it as a gentle vibration sensation. The MonaLisa Touch™ provides excellent long term improvement. Once yearly maintenance treatments help to maintain vaginal health. This therapy is also a wonderful option for young breast cancer survivors or other women who cannot use hormonal therapy and have been suffering with significant symptoms. I am one of the first physicians in the North Dallas area to offer this procedure and am very excited about the ability to help so many patients who have been suffering with these symptoms. Menopause is a time of transition in our lives but doesn’t have to be miserable! So check out these HOT new options and see if they might be right for you! www.kathrynewhitemd.com, 2840 Legacy Dr #200, Frisco, TX 75034

Business & Lifestyle Success Information B4B | Sales | Veterans | Family Health | Money | Fashion | Coaching Redefining B2B For American Business Owners!

Building a Stronger Brand For American Business Owners Content, content, content! We need to be EVERYwhere to be seen today, and for the companies that are not embracing social media, audio, video and digital content - the struggle is real. Traditional blogging for business is a WASTE of precious time. With limited resources, how do we create a strong, familiar brand that’s effective, and draws the client and customer base we need to drive long-term revenue? The OffBeat Business Show & Magazine is helping business owners across America develop digital reputations that people trust by redefining business to business. Let me explain. Current business legislation takes every available resource of time and money - leaving little on the table to network and enable new programs and practices that would help alleviate that deficit. Between criminal justice code that does NOT adequately address drug addictions in our families and workspace, tax code thievery, health care law that disrespects common sense and a handicapped Veterans Administration, the majority of American business owners feel powerless to keep up with the growing demands of technology in advertising, sales and marketing. “I believe this is a dangerous position. It’s never been more important to be an influential business that draws increased revenue regularly. An excess of time and money will put power back in the hands of those to whom it belongs. I believe effective use of digital media is the answer to this problem. When business owner experts share their formulas for success in life and business in short, focused, solution-based articles, audios and videos that speak directly to THEIR situations - other business owners benefit, break free of tradition, become inspired and GROW.” ~ Susan Hamilton, Founder, Host and Editor-In-Chief of The OffBeat Business Show & Magazine
The OffBeat Business Show & Magazine represents the 80% of American small businesses that tend to be family owned and employ 9 or less. That means we’re raising our children, caring for our parents, wrestling with addicts in our work spaces and families and are directly impacted by a veteran who is either bringing their skill and courage to our company or possibly struggling with reintegration after deployment. These issues in our environments make focus harder - and we have no time for riff-raff that does not bring in revenue or enable a business practice that makes it easier to do so. Download our app to access our easy-to-use resources at your fingertips. Create a strong brand using our resources, so you can get back to the business of making money and supporting your family and community. We help you develop an editorial calendar that works with your sales agenda, and show you how to use your valuable experience to become the go-to resource for other business owners who benefit from your expertise. Be a part of our social media campaigns and strong digital presence in audio and video. Advertise where your ad can be shared across every social media platform. Get your radio ads out on iTunes, Spreaker, TuneIn Radio and iHeart Radio. BE where your audience IS - in the most efficient and effective way possible. Think YOUR business is only B2C? Think again! Don’t miss this largely untapped referral resource - business owners who respect other business owners for their experience, innovation and value. We provide the content that strengthens your brand so you can make more money. Talk to us about our sponsorship programs TODAY, call 214-714-0495.

Permanent Life Change
Temporary vs. Permanent What would those differences be? “Well, it’s probably best summed up by the contrasting of temporary change and permanent life change. I see so many of my clients go through such a profound transformation – and mostly in areas where they never believed it was possible. The story of Dr. Jhon Whitaker began to unfold as being someone who could readily empathize with the various challenges of her clients: “I was a chubby child. My parents owned a bakery. I filled the jelly donuts. Do I need to say more?” she laughed. “Actually, it wasn’t funny at all. And when my clients bring in their hearts full of sadness at never being able to ride a bicycle or go on a date because of weight challenges. I remember all too well my own days of crying myself to sleep next to the phone that never rang.” Dr. Jhon went on, “Then as I got older, I took a job which required a good amount of flying. I was both fat—and afraid of flying. Something had to give. Clinical hypnotherapy put me back in an airplane seat and, also after nine-and-ahalf therapeutic months of regular weekly help, I looked in the mirror and saw someone I knew was in there all along. It was a new me. ”What are the causes of such symptoms as being “overweight” or smoking or being stressed or the many phobias people carry with them? And, what can be done? “Well, first, my clients seem to feel that I care, because, as I say, “I’ve been there.” Trust is where it all starts. Then, they begin to share, to open themselves, to verbalize about relationships, the fears, the neglected childhoods, perhaps uncaring spouses, and the deaf ears of teachers or the laughter of classmates. “We talk. I like to listen. My nursing background and degree in social work have prepared me to understand what seems to be simple enough issues on the surface, but not
necessarily so. Results are what we’re after. Permanent, positive life change.” And what are the results you seek? “Well,” she said, with the ease of someone who had accomplished such results many times, “Someone wants to stop smoking? They stop. That is a measurable result. “My goal is to burn real life-change so deeply into someone’s emotional ‘hard drive’ that the new manifestations of these changes are permanent and occur automatically. Smiles and Hugs “When I see smiles break out and spouses hug each other and proud nonsmokers and people emerging from their former life into their new life that is special.” What makes you different? My practice is the only one that has combined the power of Cold Laser with Hypnosis. We know that hypnosis works for many things, but combining it with the acupuncture success of Cold laser without the use of the needles makes it safer and much easier on the client. Many physicians refer their patients to me, but they frequently refer their family members to help them lose weight, stop smoking, eliminate insomnia and even lessen prescription medications. Dr. Jhon Whitaker has over 24 years of experience with hypnosis and over 8 years ago added cold laser to her practice. The combination makes her practice unique and over 90% successful with people from all walks of life. She has been interviewed on Good Morning Texas on Channel 8 for over 3 years. Call today and ask for your FREE Consultation. You will meet her personally and mention le femme FOCUS Magazine for your Discount.

Join Mystical Coffee Club and enjoy different specialty coffees each month roasted by the best roasters in the country.
• Mystical Coffee Club loves to give back! • Check out the charities that have decided to become affiliated with our company. • We will donate 10% of your membership order each month your order processes back to the charity chosen by you at checkout. • It’s as simple as choosing a Charity Code!
Giving back…
Giving back is the foundation of Mystical Coffee Club. The founders wanted to find a way to share great coffee while having a impact on their local community.
Most areas might have one or two independent roasters with a small coffee shop. Mystical Coffee Club has been blessed to be in an area with over 25 independent roasters. Partnering with these roasters and featuring a new roaster each month in the coffee club was the perfect way to explore a new roasters roast for the coffee aficionado! This is also a great way for the roaster to increase their exposure to coffee lovers far and wide.
Mystical Coffee Club first started with the idea to find a charity to sponsor. In that search, so many wonderful and worthy causes were revealed. They had to ask themselves “whom do you choose?”. The only obvious answer was to choose them all! So, Mystical Coffee started to approach the different charities to see if they would like to participate in a program that would give 10% of sales back to their organization. And they all said YES!
With many long hours of planning, a great program was put in place A charity would be assigned a Charity Code and every Mystical Coffee Club Membership sold and processed with that code 10% of that order would donated back each month! It’s a win win for all! The roasters, the coffee aficionado and those in need!

Changing the World as We Know It… The Memnosyne Institute What would life be like if people of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds around the world came together for a deeper understanding of peace and conscious encouragement of positive global collaboration in critical areas of knowledge? The Memnosyne Institute has a unique concept addressing the idea that interrelationships between the world, the human beings, the environment, the economy, even peace itself, are interwoven and what happens on one side of the world affects what happens on the other side. Founded by Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk and Joshua Frenk, The Memnosyne Institute’s vision and philosophy is that “the sky is the limit” if we learn to embrace each other’s intelligence, cultures, sciences, arts and learn to be fascinated by each other. If we perpetuate a state of “awe and respect” for what we could accomplish as a collaborative people, one world, so to speak, then we can truly make a difference in life as we know it today, not only for ourselves but for generations to come. It was created because the world is facing globalization, the processes that promote world-wide exchanges of national and cultural resources, and if, as a global people, we do not learn to collaborate respectfully with the exchange of information, ideas and open dialogue we will implode as humanity. The mission of the Memnosyne Institute is to

help the diverse people of the world to themselves and for future generations by providing mankind with the means to embrace a global world, to forge alliances between people of all races and cultures and to peacefully seek understanding of other’s value; to give humans the opportunity to empower themselves, to be resourceful in identifying with world social issues and developing cognizant cultural creativity and an understanding of the need for change in the world today. Wouldn’t sharing information between countries strong in science with those rich in art or others with a higher understanding for economics and math be amazing? What could we accomplish as one people forging a united world? How far could we grow and expand man’s humanity to man? What could we learn about each other, our beliefs and traditions?

Fresh fruit Fruits are packed with vitamins and minerals and are full of great natural sweetness. They are also a great source of antioxidants needed for a stronger immune system. Frozen banana A great substitute to ice cream which is rich in
sugar and fat, a medium-size banana contains the needed amount of glucose for the brain to perform at its best. You get a lot of sweet, natural goodness in a small, easily digestible package, making bananas a great way to cure a sugar craving. Just like a candy bar, it will satisfy your sweet tooth, but unlike a candy bar, a banana won’t take you for a ride on the sugar roller coaster that leaves you empty, drained, and craving more sugar. Rich in fiber, bananas also offer potassium and magnesium. Roll in healthy oats, nuts or raisins for extra sizzle!

Wasabi peas Snack on them or top salads and soups. These little peas are perfect for satisfying any salty, crunchy, or spicy craving — and they have protein and fiber, which will energize you and prevent blood sugars from dropping. Hard-boiled egg This is an excellent source of protein, which will satisfy hunger and stabilize blood sugars. But be aware of the offensive smell! Eat your hard-boiled egg in the office kitchen. Sprinkle with sea salt, fresh ground pepper or paprika or add a side scallion, celery stick or carrot.
Vegetables and hummus Hummus and veggies provide crunch, sweetness, and carbohydrates, giving you all the nutrients you need in a very satisfying snack. The chickpeas in hummus are also a good source of calcium, iron, protein, and fiber, which prevent blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly. 55
Tomato juice Sometimes when you think you are hungry or you crave sugar, you are actually thirsty. Next time this happens, try drinking a can of low-sodium tomato or vegetable juice Squeeze your own raw tomato juice and enjoy the essential vitamins, such as A and K, all of the B vitamins, iron, magnesium, and phosphorous. If packaged, check the sodium!
Kale chips If you're looking for that crunch, kale chips are a great low-calorie, nutrientpacked option. They're quick and easy to make: you simply toss some chopped kale in a small amount of olive oil and then bake until crispy. Sprinkle with tasty spices for flavors.
Apples and peanut butter The apple provides fiber and carbohydrates for energy, while the peanut butter (you can also use almond butter) provides healthy monounsaturated fat and protein, which stabilizes blood sugar ups and downs. This snack is so tasty and satisfying, it will hold you over for a few hours. If you want your apples with peanut butter to truly be a healthy snack, choose natural peanut butter which typically consists of no more than peanuts and salt while regular contains large amounts of fill ingredients, such as sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oils. 56
The Sandwich Generation is Growing, and So Are Their Responsibilities. Across the U.S., millions of middle-aged adults struggle with the dual responsibility of financially supporting a child and caring for an aging parent. In fact, a 2013 Pew Research report found that 33% of baby boomers and 42% of GenXers are now members of what is commonly called “the sandwich generation.1” The meteoric rise of the sandwich generation is a byproduct of two powerful trends: (1) women giving birth later in life, and (2) the increasing longevity of the U.S. population. When you combine these factors with a growing number of young adults moving in with their parents, it’s easy to see why so many middle-aged Americans are concerned about the future. If you are one of them, here are a few steps you can take to protect your loved ones and prepare for the financial responsibilities ahead. Have a plan for eldercare. Talk to your parents about the kind of care they’d prefer, and discuss it with your siblings. See which, if any, family members have the capacity to help provide care and which home would be the most accessible. If you think external help will be needed, research local resources to see what is available—and at what cost. Most importantly, consult an attorney and make sure you have all the legal documents needed to make sudden medical and financial decisions if the need arises.
Evaluate your resources. Before determining a course of action, make sure you know what resources are available. Can your parents pay for care on their own? Do they have long-term care insurance? Do they own any whole life insurance policies with living benefits2 they may be able to use to pay for care? Can other family members contribute financially, or is public assistance a viable option? Protect your children’s lifestyle and future. While caring for a parent is a huge responsibility, it’s important to make sure your children’s needs are also met. If you haven’t done so already, set up a college fund and make funding it a priority. Also, consider purchasing a term life insurance policy that can help to cover day-to-day expenses and protect their comfortable lifestyle in case anything tragic happens to you. Caring for children and aging relatives at the same time is never easy, but with the right planning and resources, it is possible to do both. With so many people joining the ranks of the sandwich generation, now’s the time to start planning for the future.

The Importance of Vitamin D3 A Three Part Series
by Dr. Donna S.Barsky, PharmD In the last issue we discussed Vitamin D, what it is and does, its importance and sources. As a refresher, Vitamin D, often referred to as “the sunshine vitamin, is different from other vitamins in that it influences your entire body. Receptors that respond to vitamin D have been found in almost every type of human cell, from your brain to your bones. When you cannot get enough sun exposure during certain parts of the year, supplementation is an option. The most important thing to keep in mind if you opt for oral supplementation is that you only want to supplement with natural vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), which is the type of vitamin D found in foods like eggs, organ meats, animal fat, cod liver oil, and fish. Do NOT use the synthetic and highly inferior vitamin D2. Fortified foods are the major dietary sources of vitamin D. Prior to the fortification of milk products in the 1930s, rickets (a bone disease seen in children) was a major public health problem in the United States. Milk in the United States is fortified with 10 micrograms (400IU) of vitamin D per quart, and rickets is now uncommon in the US. Vitamin D and Bone Health It is estimated that over 25 million adults in the United States have, or are at risk of developing osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by fragile bones which result in increased risk of bone fractures. Rickets and osteomalacia were recognized as being caused by vitamin D deficiency 75 years ago; their prevention and cure with fish liver oil constituted one of the early triumphs of nutritional science. The requirement for vitamin D has been pegged to these disorders ever since. 59
Having normal storage levels of vitamin D in your body helps keep your bones strong and may help prevent osteoporosis in elderly, nonambulatory individuals, in post-menopausal women, and in individuals on chronic steroid therapy. Vitamin D nutrition probably affects major aspects of human health: Cancer | Diabetes | Arthritis | Obesity | Syndrome X | Heart Disease Autoimmune Disorders | Fatigue, Depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder

INNOVATIONS IN WEIGHT LOSS Kathryn E. White, MD
The New Year brings hope for new opportunities. We all love to make New Year’s resolutions and one of the most common is to lose weight. Physicians now have new medications, for the first time in 30 years that are proven to help you be more successful in long term weight loss! Sustained weight loss is very difficult, however it is important to realize that obesity is a chronic disease. Many factors affect weight gain over time, especially aging and menopause. Medically significant weight loss is ten percent or more of your current body weight. Even just moderate weight loss can significantly decrease your risk of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and several forms of cancer. Rather than looking at weight loss as a diet, we really need to make a commitment to a lifestyle change. Changing habits however, is often problematic and most people need some help along the way. Studies clearly show accountability is a huge factor in reaching long term weight loss goals so having a physician educated in this process is critical. Basically all diets that reduce caloric intake work, however fad diets cannot be maintained long term, so it is important to lose weight in a sustainable, healthy fashion. Our program starts with a body composition analysis. This is a special scale which generates a report breaking your weight down into the various components: fat, water and muscle mass. The body composition analysis also gives you an approximation of your resting metabolism. Breaking down excess muscle mass will only further sabotage your weight loss efforts by lowering your resting metabolism. A quality weight loss program will focus on your body composition analysis and address your health and goals. Healthy weight loss requires
you to lose fat for the long term and not just water and muscle mass. We offer a physician supervised weight loss program tailored to your needs. Some of our programs offer complete meal replacements, partial meal replacements and in some cases preparing all of your own food. This allows for different options according to your needs and lifestyle. Meal replacements can be extremely beneficial in helping one to break bad food habits and decrease cravings until blood sugars are stabilized and healthier habits are implemented. They can also be very useful for busy lifestyles as a snack or to replace fast food choices when there is no time to prepare healthy meals due to time constraints. I use meal replacements frequently and find them very convenient. The importance of education cannot be stressed enough for long term weight loss success. Many people feel they “know what to do however are often lacking basic knowledge in food choices, exercise and the utilization of modern nutrition tools that help them maintain weight loss. There are now new physician monitored medications introduced over the past few years which can be very beneficial. For the first time, we have medications which have been FDA approved for long term use and weight maintenance! Qsymia is a combination of one of the most frequently used medications (phentermine, also known as adipex/fastin) and topamax. Adipex works very well for many patients however most will develop a tolerance over time and find the medication is no longer effective. Side effects are often an issue as well. Topamax has traditionally been used for migraine headaches
and seizure disorders but has been used offlabel for weight loss. The combination of the two works extremely well and minimizes side effects as they tend to offset one another. Qsymia is also FDA approved for weight maintenance and found to be effective for two years or more. Potential side effects include dry mouth, heart racing, insomnia, irritability, mood swings or depression, tingling in the hands or face, constipation, dizziness, visual problems and taste changes, especially of carbonated drinks. There are several different dosages and the medication is titrated over time to minimize these side effects. Qsymia also has the potential to cause birth defects such as cleft lip or cleft palate and therefore requires monthly pregnancy testing of all patients of child bearing age. Belviq is another new FDA approved medication which is also appropriate for long term weight loss. Belviq focuses more on causing patients to feel full faster and decreasing the amount of food consumed rather than decreasing appetite. This may be especially useful for weight maintenance. Common side effects of Belviq may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, nausea and constipation. Some patients may experience hallucinations, a feeling of euphoria or more serious symptoms associated with serotonin syndrome. Contrave is a combination of a well-known medication use to treat depression (Wellbutrin) with naltrexone. Contrave works in the brain to control centers that regulate appetite and reward. Potential side effects of Contrave include worsening depression or mood changes, seizures, opioid withdrawal in patient’s on prescription narcotics, high blood pressure, increased heart rate or visual problems. Saxenda is another new option FDA approved for weight loss. This is chemically related to Victoza which is used to treat diabetes.
Saxenda is a self- injectable medication supplied in a prefilled pen. This is a subcutaneous injection with a very tiny needle which can be done in the upper thigh or abdomen. Saxenda is started at a very low dosage to minimize side effects and gradually increased over a period of weeks. The most common side effect is nausea which improves over time. Other common side effects include headache, diarrhea or constipation, fatigue, and dizziness. Less common side effects include pancreatitis and the potential for developing thyroid tumors.
Clearly there are now a lot of options to help with weight loss. Prior to starting any program however, it is wise to have an evaluation with a physician. It is necessary to rule out any medical illnesses that might be interfering with your ability to lose weight such as thyroid disease, but also to be sure that you are a candidate for these medications and are able to safely implement an exercise program. Physician supervised weight loss can help you reach your goals and be on your way to not only feeling and looking better, but also to optimal health. Remember, your health is your most valuable asset!

Insight for the New Year! By Deborah Viapiana-Ricci
Resolution ... The literal definition according to the Oxford Dictionary reads: “make up one’s mind; decide firmly.” As I have said before, I am not a big fan of making New Year’s resolutions. They are almost always made with a kind of anxious zeal, promising ourselves and the Universe great feats of determination, drive, and decision making, all sure to set things right. What if we did it a little differently this year and not resolve anything? What if we merely made a secret pact with ourselves, without needing to proclaim publicly, t hat we are intending to have the best laid plans to live our most fruitful lives without the self-imposed pressure of making and keeping a resolution? What would that look like?
what it would take to accomplish those lofty goals. This of course, can be a bittersweet proposition for many of us. Does this mean we don’t set goals? Not at all. What we could consider instead, could be the kind of goals we would like to bring about. We may ponder on how to set practical goals using “real time,” as my son-in-law says. Did you ever notice, everyone’s watch measures time differently? There’s that measuring thing again. Let’s give ourselves the gift of real time instead of making and breaking plans because of overscheduling. This not only goes for le femme gals, but you can be sure we are doing it with everyone around us, including our families. We are feeling the crunch of time, and with the influx of society telling us that productivity is a positive thing, I promise you our watches are surely cursed. The hands just can’t keep up with the magnetic pull of the giant machine that keeps whirling around us.
Since September eleventh, I have tried to put aside some of my time worn habits of saying things like “someday.” Have you ever noticed that “someday” can sometimes turn into NEVER? I don’t think we even realize how often each of us says it. I know we don’t ever reach all of the goals we set for ourselves and there can be many different reasons for that. For me, it was mostly about setting too many high ideals without real consideration of
A few years ago, my husband’s dad passed away. He lived his life very much in the moment, serving most anyone he came in contact with. He was a farmer by trade, but a real humanitarian for sure. He touched so 65
many people’s lives simply by being the man he was. I don’t think he ever made a resolution; he led by example. He was his resolution. I was honored to know him and be a part of his amazing quest for moral virtue. He saw the good in everyone and rarely spoke poorly of anyone. I know there were times he could have, but he chose to overlook things and move forward. One could resolve to take this kind of leadership strongly into consideration, I think. With that said, the only resolution I would be willing to try on would be to resolve to stay present to how fragile and short life really is. Hold onto what we value, and protect it carefully. Let’s move in a direction that serves
ourselves and those around kindly, considerately, and lovingly.

Every year, on January first, we are handed a clean slate. What we choose to put on it is the $64,000.00 question. Whether we deliberate, reflect, contemplate, or decide to make a resolution after all, here’s a very timely quote by Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin: “We need to gain the courage and fresh life that come from the mingling of congenial souls, of those working for the same ends.” And, that, my friends is what my father-in-law Francis Ricci lived for each and every day of his 83 years. Wishing you all, a most peaceful and time-honoring New Year.

The Story Mirror By Kathryn Eriksen, PhD in Heart Dancing
I was putting on my makeup the other morning when I noticed a matched set of wrinkles around my mouth. Having reached the age where the mirror can seem like an enemy instead of a friend, I am hypervigilant about the stories I tell myself as I gaze at my reflection.
woman eager to share her wisdom. The wrinkles, gray hairs, and sagging jawline are just the physical evidence that I have lived more than 50 years on this planet. I smile at myself, knowing that I am enough. What just happened? My physical appearance didn’t change. The mirror’s surface was the same – it reflected back what was before it. The only thing different was the story I told myself as I looked into the mirror. And that story (whether it was positive or negative) caused me to see myself differently.
It makes all the difference in what I see. Allow me to provide two examples to demonstrate my point. Assume both of these scenarios occurred on the same day, at the same time: Story A: It’s the end of 2015 and I didn’t accomplish all of my goals. I feel time slipping through my fingers like grains of sand and I feel powerless to stop the flow. I don’t particularly like myself right now and the choir of judgment, criticism and frustration, is singing at full volume. When I look in the mirror, all I see are wrinkles, gray hairs, and a bit of sagging around my jawline. I frown at my image and wonder (rather despondently) why I look so much older.
Instead of reflecting light particles, my mirror actually reflected the stories I told myself! Instead of an inanimate object made of glass and silver, I now call it my “Story Mirror.” My mirror has become my litmus test. When I see the wrinkles, gray hair, and sagging skin, I know I am not telling myself an uplifting story. When I see sparkling eyes and I can smile at myself, my internal story is rocking.
Story B: It’s the end of 2015 and I made a list of all that I accomplished this year. I have taught courses, given speeches (on a cruise!), appeared on television, been interviewed on radio shows and even created a podcast. It’s been a productive year and I can’t wait for 2016! When I look in the mirror, I see myself as a vibrant
Your Stories Filter What You See Stories are the meaning you attach to neutral facts. In the examples above, the physical appearance of my face certainly did not change, but I saw different things because of my story filter. Can you change your limiting stories? Absolutely. Are you 68
willing to become aware of your limiting stories so you can change them? Silence … as crickets chirp in the background.
Why? It all starts with your inner world. Change your inner world and the outer world will also change.
The inevitable truth is: Only you are in control of your stories. You created them and you can change them. No one is coming to fix it. Only you can decide what stories work for you and which ones need to be changed.
We live in a dualistic world of physical form, governed by the laws of time and space. Good and bad co-exist, love and hate can always be seen, joy and despair exist in the same set of circumstances. It all comes down to which story you choose as your filter. Are you limiting your view because of the choir of judgmental voices singing in your head? Or have you chosen to ignore them and turn toward the light of empowerment?
“But how do I change my stories? That’s exactly how I see myself!” I can hear the conversation in your head as you consider my message. I do not have enough space here to explain the how and why of the Story Alchemy™ process, but I can promise you that it works miracles.
It is your choice, in every moment. Your choice determines what you see in the mirror, and in the outside world.
When you change your stories, you change your life. The amazing result is that when you change your stories, your view of your world also changes to reflect your new perspective.
Why not choose to stand in front of your mirror with an empowering story about yourself, your life and your value? Commit to seeing the greatest version of the grandest vision of yourself and your world will change … because you have changed it from the inside.
Life is a Mirror of your Inner World One of my favorite quotes is by Henry David Thoreau:
You always have the perfect litmus test to determine whether you are on track. Your mirror. And your life.
When you begin alchemizing your limiting stories, you begin to see your world differently.
Kathryn Eriksen is known as the “Story Alchemist,” because she discovered a process that transforms limiting stories from lead to gold. You can learn moby visiting www.KathrynEriksen.com or www.HeartDancingNow.com.
It’s not what you look at that matters; it’s what you see.
