Frisco Fastpacs Food Drive

The first Friday in September is National Food Bank Day, and in recognition of its importance, Legacy offered assistance to Frisco Fastpacs.

Frisco Fastpacs is a nonprofit organization that provides weekend meals for Frisco ISD students in low-income families. Legacy’s participation is a schoolwide initiative, from our youngest Pre-K Eagles all the way to our seniors, and our families answered the call. Parent volunteers are instrumental in the success of the food drive, as they will deliver the donations to Frisco Fastpacs.

Legacy’s partnership with the organization has presented a unique opportunity for both student and servant leadership. The National Honor Society has taken the reins and will lead this project for the rest of the year.

“Frisco Fastpacs has a special place in the hearts of this year’s NHS officers,” says President Trenton Balcombe, “so we’re honored and thrilled to highlight the food drive as a major staple of our service projects. We plan to spearhead our efforts through student-led involvement in the form of early-morning carline collections. Most importantly, our efforts will be strategically concentrated in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break, as Fastpacs will need a stockpile of donations for the extended time away from school.”

Food donations are fundamental to the success of Fastpacs, but many of our teachers have also called on their students’ creativity: “High Five” cards contain bright, uplifting messages and are a great way to reinforce the call to serve. Students in Mrs. Marino’s fourth-grade class wrote and designed the cards. Afterward, the class prayed over them and also prayed for the children. Their prayer was simple: that the food would bless and nourish their bodies and that the High Five cards would bless and nourish their spirit.
