PRESIDENT’S LETTER Dear New Key Club Member, Hello! My name is Margaret Vo, and I am the President of Legacy High School Key Club for the 2017 -2018 school year. I am so excited for you to be a part of this amazing international organization! I first joined Key Club during my junior year (a tad bit late, I know) and I can say with complete honesty that Key Club changed my life. I know, I know, that sounds super dramatic. But I really wouldn ’t be the same person that I am now without the people, opportunities, and experiences that I have made through Key Club. I met some of my best friends and grew so much as a person- just from being a member! Now, you might be thinking: How can a volunteering oriented club have that much of an effect on my life? I thought that to myself when I attended my first Key Club meeting. But I challenge you to put forth just a little bit of effort into this club. I’m not asking for much; just participate and do your best to communicate with me on what you need to be a more productive member. Only then can you reap the same rewards that I did - new friends, fun memories, and even scholarships for college! I can ’t wait to start working with you to make the world better through service! Best regards, Margaret Vo Vice President, LHS Key Club vicepreslhskeyclub@gmail.com

What Is KEY CLUB?

Legacy Recruitment:

The past couple years the Key Club in Legacy

had been slowly deteriorating. I remember last year we started quite strong with around 70 members but due to the lack of marketing and requirement our officers lagged in their responsibilities. This year our officers worked their butts off to brainstorm and put in place their recruitment ideas. For example they made brochures with a Key Club application on the back, asked advice from other key clubs in the district, advice from the regional advisor and the lieutenant governor for our division(39s).

11

Legacy Recruitment:

When the first week of August came around, which is usually when the whole school starts to start picking up schedules, our officers set up a table during schedule pick ups from Monday to Friday from eight am to three pm. Throughout this time they printed over three hundred applications, made a poster, has shirts ready, and the year planned. By the end of the week all three hundred applications were gone. Once school started everyday for the first two weeks during the announcements, a short and sweet saying, was said to promote key club and inform everyone about the first meeting of the school year.

12

Legacy Recruitment:

When the first meeting came around the classroom of our advisor was completely full, kids were all along the walls, on the floor, and others sharing seats. Over seventy people showed up. In that same day sixty-five people joined Legacy Key Club’s remind and throughout the first couple meeting

gradually increased. As of now seventy-seven key clubbers have submitted a key club application and have paid their dues. Our officers to keep people interested host socials

and give new members to hear experiences from other clubs in the district and to offer lots of volunteer services that are fun and also helpful to the organizations and the community.

AUGUST FUN FACTS August is shared by the astrological signs of Leo the Lion and Virgo the Virgin, and is sacred to the following Pagan deities: Ceres, the Corn Mother, Demeter, John Barleycorn, Lugh, and all goddesses who preside over agriculture. During the month of August, the Great Solar Wheel of the Year is turned to Lammas, one of the four Grand Sabbats celebrated each year by Wiccans and modern Witches throughout the world.

August, the eighth month of the current Gregorian calendar and the third month of Summer's rule, derives its name from Augustus (Augustus Caesar). The traditional birthstone amulets of August are the peridot and the sardonyx; and the gladiolus and the poppy
