riddle of the month I was there for you first, and I was there for your last. Everyone has me, yet I am unique to you. What am I?

At 3:35 PM on October 8th in 2020, I sent an email to my counselor asking about Legacy’s Key Club. Being a virtual student due to the notorious COVID-19 virus, I was eager to join any extracurricular activities that sparked my interest, as I was also a freshman student in a brand new district. In middle school, I heard about all the exceptional work Key Club has done for communities all over the world. I knew that someday, I too wanted to be a part of this, and ultimately contribute to the world around me. Therefore, twelve days after I sent my initial email of interest, I submitted my application and officially became a member of Key Club. Given the circumstances of the pandemic, the club did not start very smoothly. Meetings were held through Microsoft TEAMS, volunteer opportunities were declining, and the member count of the club was extremely low. No one was happy about the limitations, but fortunately, we had cooperative officers that understood the challenges we faced as general members. Soon enough, service work opportunities were slowly becoming available, and Legacy’s Key Club was able to participate in a variety of events. Despite the virus, we were able to help raise money for a child in need of a prosthetic leg, as well as donate clothing and supplies for those impacted by the snowstorm in February 2021. Through the use of Canva and Instagram, I was also able to gain volunteer hours by creating ecards for pediatric cancer patients located in hospitals around the world. Key Club has taught me to be resourceful and to always take the initiative in whatever I do. Because of my time in Key Club, I have been able to gain leadership skills, volunteer experience, and a greater connection with the communities around me. Now, instead of using my spare time to stay home and watch anime, I dedicate some hours to go out and volunteer for activities at my local library. Tasks that seem as small as setting up chess boards for a local Chess Club ultimately help out in the grand scheme of things. I’m very proud of how far Legacy’s Key Club has come, and I will forever be grateful for everything it has done for me and for the communities around the world.
