The beginning of summer has allowed me to discover new exciting things to do with my downtime. I have found that I like to read historical fiction, to study the news, but above all else, to color. While it may seem like an elementary task, I can spend hours coloring a waterfall seven different types of blue and green. I love being able to return to the simple things in life, like learning to color in the lines and blending yellows and reds to make a perfect fiery orange. As stated before, it is a very time-consuming task. However, when complete, a magnificent picture of caring, character building, leadership, and inclusiveness can be created. An illustration that depicts exactly who we are because we have spent the time to color in the lines and not scribble. Likewise, in our club, I know that we cannot rush through even the simplest of tasks in order to forge a picture that upholds the core values of Key Club International. In order to effectively recycle on our campus for our teachers and staff, we need a good foundation. People who will be willing to help coordinate the who, when, and where. Thus, a recycling committee was born. However, building committees will not be a quick and easy task. It is going to take time to find the right committee chairs and members, but with the help of our club, I know that we can do it. As of now, we have four committees, including recycling, recruitment, riddle of the month, and fundraisers (specifically Socks for Legs). Any Key Club member is encouraged to join a committee, wherever you feel that you fit the best. Please consider joining in order to help out our school and community. Just like when coloring, we have to be patient. When the 2019-2020 school year comes to an end, I want to be able to look back and see a beautiful picture. One filled of service, fun, family, and happiness. I know that this next year with our sponsors, board, and current and new members will be rewarding. Strings for Shepard is a service project established in 2018 by Katlin Nguyen through the Key Club Organization at Legacy High School. The program helps to provide instruments and band equipment to the Donna Shepard Orchestra to help students who may benefit from the provided equipment. "I wanted to shine a light upon disadvantaged students within our district that don't always have the same opportunities as their peers to participate in extracurricular activities," Nguyen said. The orchestra department is able to use the donations from Strings for Shepard to help students participate by giving them an instrument to use during their time in the program. This allowed for more participants, regardless of if they were able to provide their own instrument or not. "In order to attempt to close the socio-economic barrier between students, I specifically chose orchestra because instruments are quite expensive for the students to rent," Nguyen said. Over the past two years, Key Club has been able to donate a total of five violins, three shoulder rests and a large speaker to Donna Shepard's Orchestra, allowing the program to grow and students to experience an extracurricular they can take part in. "I was so excited to see something we did as a club actually worked," Nguyen said.
My name is Camilla Brown, and I am the Key Club President for the 2019-2020 school year. I will graduate in 2021 from Mansfield Legacy High School. My absolute favorite color is yellow because it says a lot about my personality; I can be pretty energetic and animated at times. I express my passion for helping others by acting as Speech Captain in Speech and Debate, a junior representative in PTSA, and a member in NHS. As Key Club President, my main objective will be to create successful committees, which any member of Key Club can join, in order to more effectively serve our community. Consider joining Key Club!
Heyo key clubbers! My name is Katelyn Pasierb, and I am serving as your 2019-2020 Legacy High School Key Club Vice-President! I’m super excited for this next year and to get to know each and every one of you! For a little about me, outside of serving this phenomenal key club, I am the Debate President at Legacy, this being my 4th year debating, as well as am an active member of the National Honor Society. I absolutely adore dogs, and on a regular day, you will see me outside in my yard with either a great Jane Austen novel in hand or playing with my dogs Luna and Cuddles! I look forward to this next year serving as your Vice-President, together building our home, school, and community!
Hey y'all, I'm Sembree and I will be the editor for the 2019-2020 year! This will be my second year in the club and I am so excited to be on the board with some of my best friends. Aside from Key Club, I am also the LD debate captain, a writer for the school newspaper, and a member of the National Honor Society. In my free time I normally spend time with my friends and family, go to my brother's baseball games, or play with my dogs. I can't wait to see what is in store for our next year in Key Club and everything we accomplish.
Hi I’m Kristen, your treasurer for the 2019-2020 school year! I am really looking forward to helping the community and working with my peers to create a fun atmosphere in Key Club. I am a junior who is participating in Student Council, Yearbook, and the National Honor Society. I love going to church and growing my relationship with Jesus. On the weekends, I like to hangout with my friends and family while enjoying the outdoors or going to the movies. My personality can be described as energetic and cheerful. I also really love animals-especially dogs.
Hello! My name is Yunah Song, and I am the Co-Secretary with Leah Nguyen for the 20192020 school year. I am a senior at Legacy, and outside of being the Co-Secretary for our Key Club, I am also the Flute Section Leader for our band, the Vice President of our National Honor Society, and the Historian of the Mansfield Medical Club. One of my biggest passions is serving, and I am extremely thankful to have found such an amazing Key Club where it is obvious that every single member is passionate about serving others.

You can find me waving my arms around in front of the band as a drum major, attending key club meetings, or crying while studying for AP classes. My name is Caroline Brown and I am the Key Club Historian for the 2019-2020 school year. I attend Mansfield Legacy High School and will graduate in 2021. My favorite color is heather grey. I love its light tone and adaptability. I serve as Secretary-Treasurer for our Debate Club, a Junior Representative in PTSA, and as a member of NHS. I was the Latin Club President in the 20182019 school year. My favorite subject is History because I believe that we must understand how people have acted in the past to prepare ourselves for the future. My job as Key Club Historian is to take photographs, work with the editor to run our Key Club website, and to create our annual scrapbook.
Hi! My name is Ruth Oyerokun. I’m so excited to serve as the 2019-20 Legacy High School Sophomore Representative this year, and beginning another year in Key Club in general. In addition to my membership in Key Club, I’m the Spanish Honor Society Treasurer, a member of Academic Decathlon, and a varsity Silver Spur. I’m a selfproclaimed bibliophile with a thirst for adventure, and it just so happens Key Club has been one of the best ones yet! With all that being said, I can’t wait for an excellent year ahead.

My favorite color would have to be blue because there are just so many brilliant shades, similar to different personalities in people but we are all people just like how all the different shades are still blue. I’m a bit awkward but it doesn’t take very long for me to warm up to people, which is when I can get a bit excitable. I’ll do my best to make this a great year for everyone!

I have recently been elected as the Committee Chair for my Key Club’s Socks For Legs fundraiser. This is our first year implementing committees and our second taking part in We Help Two’s Socks For Legs fundraiser. Last year, our co-sophomore representatives led this fundraiser and now the responsibility falls down to my shoulders. I was able to see the passion in one of our sophomore reps as she knew that she was helping someone with a disability function better by gifting them a prosthetic leg. She was able to influence me and now I look around and see what I can do to better both people in and out of my community. I’ve been able to find my passion for helping others through key club and this fundraiser seemed like the perfect opportunity because it allows me to provide socks to those who need them in my community as well as help people outside my community with large issues that they may not be able to solve by themselves. Many amputee children in developing countries are unable to walk to school or work to help provide for themselves as adults because the may not have a chance to acquire a prosthetic leg. That’s where We Help Two comes in.We Help Two is an organization based fundraiser that allows you to sell socks and use the profit to give socks, called “Warm Socks”, to homeless shelters and benefit your own cause. The Socks For Legs branch allows schools to raise money to provide a leg for an amputee in a developing country. The first 90 packages of socks, 270 pairs total, will go into buying a prosthetic. We will start selling socks during all lunches when the new school year comes along, giving people chances to do their part and volunteer. This year we will be keeping things more organized as we have learned what works best from last year. We have brought in forms, such as contracts for taking socks, and spreadsheets so that we can have all the information together and laid out to find. It is a large responsibility and I’m thankful that our president and sponsors trust me to handle leading a committee, especially one that is able to benefit so many people. I hope to help make this a great year and that we meet our goal of providing at least one prosthetic leg to help someone stand up for themselves and change their life.

Sunshine and swimming. Party time and pool time. Sleeping in and staying up. Family and friends. Summertime is for just that: relaxing from a hectic school year and a time to just relax and have fun in the sun. However, summertime is a time for numerous service opportunities and ways to give back to the community in order to continue the service from the school year. One of the ways that I will continue to serve the Mansfield community over the summer is by participating in Common Ground’s Feed the Kids program. This organization provides food to students of the Mansfield Independent School District during the school year and the summer as a way to supplement lack of proper nourishment at home. Volunteer opportunities include serving every Wednesday, during the summer, at 10:00 and 6:00. At the morning session, volunteers unpack boxes of prepackaged foods (such as trail mix, dry cereal, tuna, ramen, fruit cups and applesauce) and stage them for the evening group to come and pack the bags to be distributed to the students. On May 29th, over 800 bags of food were packed for the surrounding area MISD students. The bags are then distributed to various churches and other local organizations to be delivered to the students. Another way to volunteer this summer is to get involved with Habitat for Humanity with their various homes being built in the surrounding area. Habitat for Humanity uses volunteers to construct homes for the economically disadvantaged. The homes are not given to the clients, but instead the clients have a low monthly payment on a 30-year mortgage. This summer, Habitat for Humanity has several homes being built in the neighborhoods of Fort Worth. Habitat for Humanity is needing volunteers for all of the dates in June and July to help construct these homes. In order to carry on the Key Club spirit over the summer, one does not have to go to an organized volunteer event. Instead, in one’s day to day life a person lives in a constant search of how to continuously serve others. This can be as simple as holding the door or smiling at someone. Anything that one person can do to make another’s life better is serving the community and making a difference to the people surrounding them. Continue the service this summer, and “be the change you wish to see in the world.”
