Welcome

At Leicester College, we offer a variety of hobby and leisure courses in the daytime and evenings for your enjoyment and career progression. So whether you’re interested in dancing, ceramics, or learning to create a perfect up do with our talented hairdressing staff, we have something for you. Some courses are free or offered at minimal cost, and range from short master classes held on one day to in-depth programmes which are taught over several weeks or more. You will have to be at least 16 to take most of the courses, but generally courses don’t require previous qualifications or experience – just a genuine interest in the subject. We offer practical courses in subjects such as computing, business, DIY, and first aid, but many of the courses are more for your personal interest and

enjoyment. You can take evening classes in creative fields such as photography, jewellery making, garment making, pattern cutting, cake decorating, and more. You can also learn professional skills such as how to develop a mobile app, how to use Dreamweaver, or food safety. Evening courses can offer the chance to build up a portfolio of work if you’re considering applying for a higher-level course in art, photography, or another creative subject. Some courses can also give you skills you need to progress in your current employment, or can simply offer you a taste of an interesting new subject – such as mehndi, pop music history, or sugarcrafts.

Course Fee Payment Options A lot of the time cost is a big barrier for adults looking to return to learning. At Leicester College, we’re committed to widening access to education and there are a variety of options open to you which can make study more affordable.

Take a free course with us

A lot of Leicester College courses for adults are totally free, although in each case certain criteria will apply. Speak to us first to check that you are eligible.

Pay for training with an Advanced Leaner Loan

Advanced Learner Loans are government loans to help you pay for the cost of a course at a college or training provider in England. Personal circumstances (such as income) aren’t taken into account, and there are no credit checks. This loan is only paid back when the course has finished and you are earning over £21,000 a year.

Examples of our free courses include: • Adult maths and English courses • A large selection of our distance learning courses • Courses at entry, level 1 or a first full level 2 course if you are aged between 19 –23 • Work skills and other courses at our City Skills Centre.

The loan is to pay course fees. The minimum amount you can get is £300 and it’s paid directly to the college or course provider. If you prefer, you can pay part of the course fee yourself and use a loan to pay the remainder. You don’t have to borrow the full amount.

Get a discount for multiple courses, or pay in instalments

The loans will cover the cost of courses at levels 3, 4, 5, or 6, and you have to be at least 19 at the start of the course to be eligible. To find out more, see gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan

If the course fee is over £150, you are entitled to pay it in instalments to help spread the cost. If you study more than one course with us in a single academic year, you get a discount of 10% on any subsequent courses you study at Leicester College that year.

Our Open Days

Our Open Days are the perfect opportunity to come and get to know us better. Every Open Day is free to attend, and friends and family members (even the little ones) will be made welcome too. Open Days give you the chance to talk to our teaching staff; look around the three campuses; check out our facilities; and even receive free careers advice. On the day, you’ll usually be offered a discount voucher for our onsite catering service, FoodInc, and we provide a free shuttle bus service between College sites.
