We are the largest college in the city and the county, with over 20,000 students studying everything from Access to HE courses to ESOL and uniformed public services with us.

We’re proud to have a strong vocational focus, offering hundreds of courses across our three city-centre campuses which aim to give you the skills you need to get on in your chosen field. To that end, we’ve invested in industry-standard facilities, not least our recentlyopened Construction Centre. Additionally we’ve got commercial hair and beauty salons, professional kitchens, Mac suites, and our own performance space, the Sue Townsend Theatre – all designed to give you a high-quality educational experience.

Staying in Education/Training until You’re 18 To give everyone an equal chance to develop their skills and knowledge, the government now requires you to stay in education or approved training until you’re at least 18. However, that doesn’t have to mean studying for school-type qualifications.

At Leicester College, we know that the traditional academic route of three or four A levels followed by a three year degree isn’t for everyone. That’s why we offer hundreds of vocational courses at an equivalent level which can still lead to higher education (if that’s your aim).

Apprenticeships also count as approved training – and all apprentices earn a wage. You can become an apprentice in a variety of industries: everything from business administration to pharmacy services or social media. It usually takes between one and four years to complete an apprenticeship, depending on the apprenticeship level. You will usually work towards an industry-relevant qualification at the same time.

The Importance of English and Maths If you reach 16 without your English and maths at the required level (GCSE grade 4 (C)), it’s now a government requirement that you re-take these qualifications or take Functional Skills exams to support your progression towards the required GCSE standard.

Wherever you choose to study after your GCSEs, this is the case. At Leicester College, we recognise the importance of these vital qualifications: after all, basic levels of literacy and numeracy will help you throughout your adult life. They will make you more independent and capable with everything from budgeting to writing job applications or reports at work. That’s why a lot of adults choose to take their GCSEs with us too.

Here’s how we make getting those allimportant maths and English qualifications painless: • we organise re-sit classes to develop your potential.

Some of our students go on to get a grade 9 • if you’re aged 16-18, your maths and English will form part of your timetable so you won’t have to go to classes in your spare time • we employ qualified teachers who are experts in teaching young adults and adult students.

Leicester is an exciting student city and we are right in the middle of the action. Our three main campuses are located in the city; our sports department is based at the Morningside Arena (home of the Leicester Riders); and our Performing Arts and Music students train in the iconic Sue Townsend theatre.

Our students are high achievers. Our Peter Jones Enterprise Academy hosted a Pitch Your Passion competition in March 2018, allowing students to win cash prizes and valuable advice from local businesses to get their business ideas off the ground. We have also seen apprentice Jacob Robinson become a finalist in the SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year competition, and had two winners in the Leicester Mercury’s annual Education Awards.

Inspiring Events and Opportunities In the past year, we’ve had inspiring talks from people like Dr Suzie Imber (Associate Professor in Space Physics at Leicester University and winner of the BBC’s Astronaut programme) and had students compete in the WorldSkills UK competition at the NEC. Our College restaurant, taste (staffed by our talented catering students) has been given a gold accreditation, and students from our travel and tourism and sports departments have been given the opportunity to undertake work experience – with their flights and accommodation paid for by the Erasmus+ programme in the south of Spain.

Ofsted have rated us Good As a government-funded further education college, we are subject to regular Ofsted inspections to assure quality of teaching and learning and to keep us accountable. As such, we’re happy to say that in January 2018 Ofsted ranked us as Good. The report highlights that a “large majority of students make good progress because their teachers plan challenging and stimulating learning that enables them to acquire a good level of subject knowledge”; it also highlighted that “student and apprentices receive good impartial careers advice and guidance”.

Your voice within the College

At Leicester College our support teams across all three campuses are able to help you in more ways than you might expect – everything from your mental and physical wellbeing to your ability to access your course is our concern.

Student Voice is an important part of all courses and helps to improve your experience. Each course is asked to elect student representatives who act as a communication channel between students, the tutors on your course and curriculum directors.

Firstly, our careers advice service can help you to gain work experience, write a CV, research possible careers, fill in your UCAS form, and apply for jobs. We’ve also got counselling and mental health staff who can be contacted via text, phone, or in person to help you when you need it.

In the “Supporting your Learning” section of this guide, you can read more about inclusion and disability support; our Multi-Faith Chaplaincy; learning mentors; and how to access our oncampus health services such as the counselling and sexual health clinics.

Finally, we’ve got an International Office who help our 100+ international students to settle in, and we’ve got two excellent day nurseries (rated Outstanding by Ofsted) to help you out with childcare while you’re studying with us.

Learner Engagement and Enrichment Team (LEET) This team is passionate about organising a fantastic calendar of events for you to enjoy and make the most of your time at College. These activities are an excellent way of making friends, trying new things, developing new skills, and enhancing your CV. Activities available include the celebration of annual festivals and events, volunteering, charity work, trips and outdoor activities, implementing equality and diversity programmes and much more.

While at College, you will have the chance to visit and take part in fairs and sales taking place in the campus atria; attend seminars and talks by inspirational speakers; and sample our legendary samosas. We also organise plenty of fun activities away from campus, too – and the cost is usually subsidised, making these trips really affordable.

Past activities have included ice skating trips; visits to Christmas markets; climbing Snowdon; going for a private tour of the Houses of Parliament; visiting the Slavery Museum in Liverpool; and a day out at Alton Towers. We’ve always got something planned and are happy to listen to your ideas for additional activities.

LEET are also responsible for each of the city centre campuses’ social spaces, which are dedicated areas where students can relax, play video games, and use computers.

Student Union The Student Union is run by students for students. The ‘executive’, as they’re known, are voted into their positions by fellow students twice yearly. A major part of their role is student representation, giving students a voice and ensuring that your views are heard, shared, and acted upon appropriately by our leadership team. There are currently 22 executive posts that include the President, Women’s Officer, Welfare Officer, International Students’ Officer and Campaigns Officer, to name just a few.

There’s more to Student Union life than just meetings and committees though, as we also run successful campaigns, awareness weeks, charity events and enrichment activities.

These range from Stop the Cuts campaigns to LGBT History Month, International Women’s Week, Voter Registration, and raising money for charities such as The Bridge, Open Hands, Keep The Beat, and trips to Alton Towers, Go Ape etc.

Sport

We pride ourselves on offering a variety of opportunities for students to keep active, take part in competitive sport, and engage in College life. Our most impressive asset is the Morningside Arena (home of the Leicester Riders basketball team), offering affordable membership for College students.

Throughout the year there are sports sessions running at all three campuses. These are free for our students and range from competitive team sports to fitness classes. All sessions are open to all students. Our sports enrichment calendar includes sessions such as UV exercise to music classes; football; rugby; badminton; cricket; archery, and many more.

Unique to Leicester, we also run competitive fixtures and competitions with our neighbouring colleges. This is through our Leicester City FE Varsity Series. The Varsity Series is divided up into a year-long league of fixtures which lead up to the Varsity Finals Day. Here you have the opportunity to represent the College in your chosen sport in a semi-competitive format against Regent, Gateway, and QE colleges. Both the Varsity Series and Varsity Games engage over 250 students from each of the city colleges in a number of sports to decide the Leicester City Varsity overall champion.

We also offer you opportunities to help support the sessions through volunteering and coaching.

You can even earn formal qualifications in coaching and volunteering by taking part. In addition to offering volunteering experience within the College, we also support local schools’ sports competitions. We encourage you to get involved with these external opportunities, which will also give you valuable experience and employability skills.

Inclusion and Disability Support Multi-Faith Chaplaincy

We are committed to providing the highest standards of support to all students, including those who have a disability or learning difficulty.

We will work closely with you to ensure that your needs are met. This can include providing an inclusion worker for personal care, behaviour, or learning support; specialist equipment; notetaking or communication support; help with transport and/or moving around College; or help with accessing the curriculum or information.

We will also ensure that you feel empowered and are fully involved in any discussions regarding the support you receive.

The Multi-Faith Chaplaincy is run by Leicester College with the help of volunteer chaplains from the local community. Currently, we have chaplains working with us from the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Baha’i, and Humanist communities, although we also have links with other faith groups locally who we can put you in touch with if appropriate.

The Multi-Faith Chaplaincy works with the curriculum teams to create guidelines around faith. For example, our Muslim chaplain will work with the exams team about procedures during Ramadan. If you have any questions or concerns that relate to your faith and your study commitments at Leicester College, we are here to help.

We also offer pastoral care and support to the College community – this includes members of staff as well as students. Each campus has at least one prayer room, and we are responsible for managing these. If you want to speak to a faith leader, or have questions related to belief, we will put you in touch with the appropriate person to help you. We also work counselling students who have found themselves in a difficult or challenging situation, to help them get back on track.

Accessibility Whether you are learning within a classroom environment, visiting one of our campus centres or reviewing our course materials, we strive to guarantee access to the support and information that you require.

We work closely with experts in equality, inclusion and disability support to ensure our digital and printed materials adhere to current guidance and best practice.

Learning Mentors Learning mentors are adults from the local community with positive experiences of the world of learning and work. They work with an individual student to provide consistent mentoring to support learning.

This support may be practical – helping you negotiate with tutors or manage your coursework better – or in a befriending role to help you during your studies.

Specific and achievable goals may be identified for you to work towards, which your mentor will monitor. Your mentoring relationship will be supported by the College, although there will be confidentiality between you and your mentor.

How/why is a mentor assigned?

Students are encouraged to self-refer – you may request to have a mentor by asking your tutor.

If your tutor feels you could benefit from the support of a mentor then you may be assigned one based on your area of learning. Your mentor will help you tackle any areas for improvement – from progression to attendance – and help you to boost your performance in College.

Counselling and Mental Health Support Service Counselling We offer a free and confidential counselling service for all our students. Our dedicated team of professional, experienced counsellors are available for appointments at all main campuses and will try to offer appointments at times to suit you.

Mental Health Support We also offer ongoing support for our students with mental health issues. If you are finding it difficult to cope and are struggling with your studies we can help you to access the support, advice and information you need. If you need any advice on overcoming difficulties related to your mental health, please feel free to get in touch.

Your tutor or mentor can refer you to the Counselling and Mental Health Service or if you prefer, you can text/call the counselling service directly on 07827 233 705 or email counsellingadmin@leicestercollege.ac.uk. It may take two to three days for a response, so in an emergency ring the College safeguarding team on 07917 370 304.

Sexual Health Your sexual health is an important part of your overall wellbeing, which is why we provide free and confidential help and support at all of our campuses.

The C Card is a sexual health drop-in clinic offering free condoms, pregnancy tests, and advice. It’s held at Freemen’s Park Student Services and Abbey Park room 2.31 (level 2) on Mondays and Thursdays from 12 to 1pm.

Choices gives you further options. It offers the following services for free: • pregnancy testing • emergency contraception • s exual health screening •c ontraception including condoms, the pill, patch, etc • sexual health advice • pregnancy advice.

This clinic is held at Freemen’s Park room 3.10 at 11am - 1pm Tuesdays, and Abbey Park room 2.31 at 12.30 – 1.30pm Wednesdays.

Safeguarding and Prevent

So what is Prevent?

Prevent is the name of a national anti-terrorism strategy. A law known as the CounterTerrorism and Security Act was passed by the UK government in 2015, making it a legal requirement for schools, universities and colleges to help prevent people being drawn into terrorism and extremism.

What do you mean by “terrorism” and “extremism”?

Recognised terrorist groups include Irish republican terrorist groups; Al Qa’ida and its associates, such as the so-called Islamic State; and far right or white supremacist groups. On 12 December 2016, the first extreme right group, National Action, became banned as a terrorist organisation. This means it’s illegal to belong to the group, to fundraise for it, or even to wear its decals or logos.

The government has defined extremism in the Prevent strategy as: “vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. We also include in our definition of extremism calls for the death of members of our armed forces, whether in this country or overseas”.

What can I do if I’m concerned someone I know might be drawn towards extremism or terrorism?

First of all, raising a concern doesn’t automatically mean that a person will be punished or asked to leave the College. It means that they will be given support, such as counselling, or they might be referred to a programme called Channel to help them get back on track.

Safeguarding Leicester College takes the wellbeing and safeguarding of all its students seriously.

There are professional staff on hand from a range of services who can help, support and guide you with whatever problem you are experiencing. If you are ever concerned about the safety of yourself or a friend at College there is a dedicated safeguarding team who you can talk to.

Apprenticeships

You get a job You get paid You earn a qualification

From dental nursing to bricklaying, or hairdressing to printing, apprenticeship options are much wider than you think. Every apprenticeship is a paid job, with approximately 20% of your time spent studying or completing coursework, usually working towards a relevant industry qualification. It’s also possible to complete a higher-level apprenticeship afterwards, and/or to continue working for the same employer.

Each year we train 1,194 apprentices – around half are aged 16 to 18, and half are adults (19+). Our largest subject areas are construction, engineering, business and hairdressing.

Apprenticeships are available in a wide variety of sectors and hundreds of potential jobs can fit into the existing categories. Access to Higher Education

Our Access to Higher Education courses offer adult students (age 19+) the opportunity to return to education and prepare for study at university level.

These courses are designed to broaden your knowledge in your area of interest and bring you up to A level standard in just one year.

Leicester College offers Access courses in: • business studies • computing • engineering • humanities • social science • health professions • science A recent development for both Access courses and progression to universitylevel programmes is the requirement for candidates to have both English and maths GCSE at grade 4 (C) or above. Here at Leicester College we can support you on Access courses by providing the opportunity to study GCSE maths or English at the same time. However if you don’t have either of these qualifications you could consider our Pre-Access course. This is an intensive one year full-time programme which concentrates on preparing adult students to return to study, as well as concentrated study in maths and English.

Who are Leicester College’s Access to Higher Education courses for?

We understand that returning to education is a big decision, and Access courses are designed for adults aged 19+ who may lack the required qualifications but have the ambition to go to university. Everyone on your course will be an adult. We have an excellent team of tutors and lecturers who understand that it may have been a while since you last studied and they are on hand to support you.

Further Information

Previous students have gone on to study at many different universities, following their dreams and fulfilling their potential. An Access course opens the door to careers such as teaching, nursing, social work and other professions which require degrees.

If you study for an Access course and take out an Advanced Learner Loan, the loan will be “written off” if you complete your university studies.

Art, Design and Graphics

From a level 1 art and design diploma up to a BA (Hons) degree in Creative Industries, Leicester College’s established and experienced art and graphics department is the perfect place to explore and develop your creative potential.

We have ceramic studios; fine art workshops; as well as dedicated screen printing facilities; industry-standard photography studios; a specialist 3D and jewellery workshop; graphic design studios; and dedicated Mac suites for your use. While all of our art and design and graphic design courses cover a range of disciplines, if you take a two-year course with us you will be able to choose specialism(s) and hone your skills to a higher level, getting you ready for a job in the creative industries, or preparing you for a degree in art and design or a related subject.

Previous students have won local and regional prizes in exhibitions and competitions. We have extensive links with industry to help you network and gain industry experience through visits, live briefs and work experience.

This course is aimed at those who enjoy creative subjects and wish to start a career in graphic design, photography, or interactive media. Business, Enterprise and Accountancy Our dynamic range of courses in business gives our students the opportunity to undertake courses from beginners’ level through to professional training.

Launch Pad

Launch Pad courses are especially designed for young people who want to re-engage with education or build their confidence before applying for college courses, apprenticeships, or work. Inductions are held around every six weeks throughout the year, so it’s never the wrong time to apply!

While on the course, you’ll study essential skills such as English and maths; personal and social development; employability skills; money management; enterprise; domestic cooking; healthy lifestyles; and have access to an extensive careers programme.

If you left school without the qualifications you need for your next step, Launch Pad could be right for you. Launch Pad is designed specifically for 16-18 year olds, so everyone will be the same age as you. The programme you study will be tailored personally to your needs, and Launch Pad courses take place over three or four days a week for up to a year (sometimes students are ready to move on after a shorter time than this, but it depends on your requirements and goals).

There’s one-to-one support if you need it and everyone on the course gets a key worker and a mentor, meaning that there’s guidance available every step of the way.

Launch Pad programmes are specifically designed for 16-18 year olds but we can cater for some home-educated young people.

The programme’s main focus is English and maths but also includes career pathways, employability skills, work experience, and personal development. There are a number of vocational taster sessions available throughout the year allowing students to explore practical, vocational options to support career choice.

Whatever the individual existing qualifications, this course will be tailored to meet your individual learning needs. Programmes start in late September, but there are opportunities to join a new group every 6 to 7 weeks, and they run until the middle of July.

Our Motor Vehicle Engineering Centre is based at our Abbey Park campus.

There is a 600sqm workshop with professional-standard facilities, allowing you to hone your mechanical skills while studying courses including vehicle maintenance and repair, vehicle fitting, vehicle paint spraying, motorsport, vehicle body repair, and vehicle technology in a realistic industry environment.

Apprenticeships are also available, giving you the chance to work for an employer and earn a wage while completing a respected professional qualification. Courses typically involve a mixture of theory and practical elements, while assessment is both continuous and exam-based.

Science and Humanities Access and Pre-Access Courses If you’re aged 19+ and want to go to university but lack the necessary qualifications (or it’s been a long time since you studied) then an Access course may be for you. Access courses are widely accepted for entry by British universities and they get you up to A level standard in just one academic year.

The course includes a variety of enrichment opportunities including guest speakers, day and residential trips. This qualification is equivalent to 2 A levels.

This course is the natural progression from the BTEC 90 credit diploma level 3. It is designed to provide you with the opportunity to study a further range of range of travel and tourism subjects to complement your existing knowledge and experience.

The course includes a variety of enrichment opportunities including guest speakers, day and residential trips. This qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels.

You will need to have successfully completed your BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Travel and Tourism and have demonstrated excellent attendance at 90% or above. You will also need to provide a reference. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required.

What is this course all about?

This course develops knowledge of the travel and events industries from a management perspective and will enhance your own managerial skills in order to aid progress into employment.

The course takes advantage of industry experience through guest speakers, trips and live projects with tourism providers. A two week work placement is scheduled in the second year of the course.

Entry Requirements

Standard entry requirements are a minimum of 32 UCAS points from a recognised level 3 qualification in a related subject. You are expected to hold GCSE English and maths at 4 (C) or equivalent. Due to the nature of this programme you may be invited to attend an interview.

Our uniformed public services courses provide you with strong professional skills and a firm knowledge base, allowing you to enter a uniformed service, such as the fire service, paramedics, police, or armed forces with confidence.

We offer a wide variety of enrichment opportunities with visits from the police, fire service, the army, and the marines as well as guest lectures from people in a variety of industry jobs to add to your learning experience.

Video and Photography

At our film, media and photography department we have an impressive range of full time film, media and photography courses, ranging from level 2 diplomas to an undergraduate degree. Our excellent facilities include film and sound editing studios, industry-standard photographic studios and dark rooms and Apple Mac digital suites.

We have extensive links with industry to help you network and gain experience. Previous students have won prestigious prizes (from MTV and the Fujifilm Student Photographer Awards). Guide to Qualifications

GCSEs – your stepping stones These school exams are taken at the end of year 11 by students aged 15-16. New GCSEs are graded 9–1, rather than the older-style A*–G. Grade 9 is the highest grade, set above the old A*.

The new system is intended to help provide more differentiation, especially among higherachieving students.

As of summer 2019, all GCSE results are graded using the new system. Please note that we will accept a grade 4 as an equivalent to an old grade C for all of our courses.

What does it cost?

What does a full-time course cost?

The amount a student has to pay towards their study at Leicester College will depend on their personal circumstances and how the course they wish to study is funded. The fee displayed on each course page is subject to the below and is based on a home learner status. Please contact us for information on overseas fees.

Further education courses (full and part time) There is no tuition or exam fee for students aged 16 to 18 (on August 31 of the year they start the course), who are a UK or qualifying EU resident.

There is no tuition or exam fee for students who are in receipt of an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) and are aged 19-24 on August 31 of the year they start the course), who are a UK or qualifying EU resident.

There is no tuition fee for people aged 19 and over who earn up to £15,736 and are studying up to and including of a level 2 qualification.

There is no tuition fee for people 24 and over studying up to a level 2 qualification and are in receipt of an eligible benefit.

There is no tuition fee for unemployed dependants of benefit claimants.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course fees are varied dependent on the number of hours studied.

You must declare your intention to progress onto a level 2 qualification to be qualify for fee remission.

What does it cost?

There is no tuition or exam fee for students who are in receipt of an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) and are aged 19-24 on August 31 of the year they start the course), who are a UK or qualifying EU resident.

Tuition fees for higher education courses such as BSc/BA degrees, foundation degrees, HNDs, HNCs, professional diplomas or professional certificates should be paid without exception. Higher education student loans are available to support you with these course fees.

Methods of payment Payment is required at enrolment, before you can be accepted onto a course. You can pay by cash, cheque (endorsed with a valid cheque guarantee card), or credit/debit card.

We also accept payment by direct debit. If your employer or training provider is paying your course fees, you must provide us with an official letter on the company’s headed paper stating that they accept responsibility for the relevant fees.

Paying by instalments For UK and EU learners with course fees below £150, your payment must be made in full when you enrol.

For course fees between £150 and £699 you can pay over three equal instalments, either by post-dated cheque or direct debit, with the first instalment being paid when you enrol and two further monthly instalments on the following two months.

For course fees between £700 and £894 you can pay over seven equal instalments, either by post-dated cheque or direct debit, with the first instalment when you enrol and the remaining instalments over the next six months.

For course fees greater than £895 you can pay over ten equal monthly instalments (by direct debit only) with the first instalment when you enrol and the remaining instalments over the next nine months.

For those courses with a duration of less than ten months, the maximum number of instalments will be reduced accordingly to ensure that the fee is paid in full, at least one month prior to the end of your course.

If your course fees are paid by your employer this will be via our standard 30 day invoice policy.

Help with costs At Leicester College, we firmly believe that a lower income shouldn’t be a barrier to access. Our Learner Support Fund can help you with costs such as: • travel costs/bus passes • course kit, equipment and uniforms • discretionary allowances for one-off costs such as trips or course activities.

We can also offer you impartial advice and help on money matters, and help you apply for loans and extra financial support where they’re available.

If you are aged 16-19, there is also support available for childcare; a 16-19 bursary fund (you will be sent an application when you are offered a place) and subsidised College meals for some students.

Eligibility criteria apply for all support – your distance from College and how much you or your household earn will be taken into account when determining any payment.

Note that Leicester College is not a Tier 4 Sponsor and we cannot offer places to students requiring a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa to study in the UK – we are only able to accept applications for courses that require a Short-term Study Visa.

The Short-term Study visas allows you to study in the UK for up to six months for any course, or up to 11 months for an English language course. Fees will vary depending on your course type and duration, but start at £202.50 per week for ESOL based on 15 hours per week. You must pay your fees before you start the course.

International Students

If you are not resident in the UK or you are not a national of a European Union (EU)/ European Economic Area (EEA) country, you will be charged full international fees, irrespective of your age or circumstances. For non EU/EEA students it is important that you apply for an appropriate UK visa or entry clearance before you arrive. There are two types of visas that allow you to study in the UK: the Short-term Study Visa and the Tier 4 (General) Student Visa.

Advanced Learner Loans

If you are aged 19 or over on the first day of your course you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.

These loans are to cover the cost of your fees and are paid directly to Leicester College. You can also choose to borrow a portion of the total cost and pay the rest yourself. The loans are not means tested, and the best part is that you won’t have to repay a penny until you’re earning over £25,000 a year.

Who’s eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan?

You could be entitled to a loan if you meet the following criteria: • You are studying a level 3, 4, 5, or 6 qualification – such as an Access course or level 3 diploma • you have been living in the UK or EU for the last 3 years (some others may be eligible too, check the government website) • you are aged 19 or over.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks If you have applied, or are enrolling onto a course where a work placement with young/vulnerable people is included, you will need to have an enhanced DBS Check.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) carries out criminal records checks for specific positions, professions, employment, offices, works and licences covered in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended 2013), and those prescribed in the Police Act 1997 (criminal records) regulation.

If you have a criminal record, you are required to declare to the Risk Assessment Team both ‘spent’ and ‘unspent’ cautions and convictions, other than ‘protected*’ cautions

and convictions which have qualified for filtering. *The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended 2013), state that certain ‘spent’ convictions and cautions are 'protected' and are not subject to disclosure and therefore cannot be taken into account. They will be ‘filtered’ and will not appear on a DBS Certificate.

You will be told if you need one of these checks, and the application will be processed by the College. If you’re over 19, there is a charge for this of approximately £44.

Libraries Each of our campuses is equipped with its own library, which comes complete with group-work areas, computers, quiet study corners and a full range of books, magazines, newspapers, periodicals, DVDs, CDs and more to consult or borrow. If something you need is located in another Leicester College library, you can request it for free and it will be delivered to the campus where you need it.

The libraries are also a social and work space and regularly host changing displays and exhibitions as well as competitions, book sales, raffles, and other events.

Nurseries Open to children of both staff and students, our nurseries provide superb care at both Freemen’s Park and Abbey Park campuses.

Social Spaces Each campus has a social space with gaming facilities and sofas. These spaces are free to use for all students and offer a chance to relax and catch up with friends in a fun environment.

Hairdressing and Beauty Salons

Sue Townsend Theatre The theatre has a rich history in the performing arts with a stellar cast of leading British actors and actresses having performed at the theatre.

It is regularly used as a performance venue by local and national arts, music, theatre and dance companies. The theatre is also a teaching venue for Leicester College, and is home to our performing arts and music and sound technology teams. Our students have the opportunity to train in this incredible commercial theatre space.

Our fully-equipped hair and beauty therapy salons at Freemen’s Park campus provide the same quality services and fantastic experience as a high street salon – but at a fraction of the price.

You can come to us for anything from a trim to a full head of highlights in the hairdressing salon to facials or waxing in the beauty therapy suite. We use branded products and our students have recently styled hair for the Miss Great Britain finalists, and have also made it to the regional heats of the UK Hairdressing World Skills Competition. Apply via UCAS Progress if your school is subscribed. If this doesn’t apply to you, fill in the Leicester College application form online (on our website). You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application.

Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study, and tour the facilities.

Confirmation You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
