As you may well be aware, the Inverleigh Store and Post Office has been sold. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their support throughout the years. A lot has changed in Inverleigh since we took over in September 2002. Apart from the hotel and service station, there wasn’t anything else in the town. Now we have bakeries, cafés, a pharmacy, real estate agent, several novelty shops and a spattering of short term accommodation in the area. The sporting complex has been improved dramatically and the play park area is the envy of a lot of towns.
Throughout this time, the increase in population with new housing developments continues steadily. Fortunately, the changes we have witnessed have not changed the character and charm of our beautiful town – which we so much enjoy. Every day, we receive positive comments about the town from customers passing through. We should all be proud.
us, move on to further their careers after finishing school, trade or university.
“Change is inevitable” as the quote goes. One of the first changes we made when we took over was to introduce a coffee machine. Being “city folk”, we appreciated a good coffee and knew it would appeal to the locals and through traffic. There was a market for coffee and years later there are various venues available for the ever increasing demand. Some locals jokingly refer to Inverleigh as Inverlatte.
The twenty two years we have run the store have certainly been rewarding. There has been nothing more pleasing than watching a generation of children growing up, moving out and seeing them return as young adults embarking on having their own family. Also rewarding was seeing how the teenagers, who got their first job with
We will miss the social interaction with the locals and the customers who pass through. Although we are not leaving, the business and the township has been a part of our family life for a long time. To those who have expressed their sadness in us leaving, we are only a stone’s throw away.
Katie and Andy will be taking over the business as of the 1st April. We wish them both the best for the future. No different to when we started, they are green and there is a lot to learn. This will take time. We hope everyone will be patient and understanding whilst they find their feet.
We thank our family and staff, past and present, for making the Inverleigh Store an institution in Inverleigh. The guardians of your mail and parcels. It has been a pleasure to serve you.

Last year, I conducted over 100 mobile offices across the fantastic electorate of Wannon, engaging with local communities, listening to your concerns and gaining invaluable insights into the issues that matter most to you.
The cost-of-living crisis over the past three years has taken a toll on everyone in my community. People are struggling. The cost of putting food on the table is now $3,000 higher than when Anthony Albanese became Prime Minister; power bills have risen signficantly, not decreased as promised; and finding affordable housing has become increasingly out of reach. These challenges are a direct result of the Albanese Labor Government’s inaction and failed policies.
Based on what I heard in those 100 mobile offices, I understand the financial pressures you're facing in managing the household budget.
A Coalition Government will get to work immediately to tackle cost-of-living pressures. We will drive down costs, ensuring that families, workers and businesses can access more affordable goods and services.
We will:
•Lower interest rates by implementing a back-to-basics plan to rein in wasteful government spending, ensuring that taxpayers’ money is used wisely and efficiently, leading to a better economic future for all Australians.
•Lower costs by delivering lower taxes for hardworking Australians and ensuring affordable, reliable energy for households and businesses. We will take action to better support families, reduce financial pressures, and provide stability with more affordable energy.
•Keep supermarkets from exploiting suppliers and consumers with a new competition policy. By strengthening the Food and Grocery Code, increasing penalties, and establishing a Supermarket Commissioner, we will ensure better practices in the retail sector, promoting fairness and transparency.
•Boost housing supply to meet the growing demand and help young Australians overcome the deposit hurdle. Our focus on better policies to increase supply will make home ownership more accessible, allowing more people to enter the property market and secure a stable future.
To read more about how we will tackle the cost of living, visit https://www.liberal.org.au/our-plan.
At this election, voters will face a choice –a vote for me to deliver a change of government or a vote for anyone else that will deliver three more years of Anthony Albanese, a failing Labor Government and

The IDGFA committee is a very passionate committee of 6 members. We are once again very proud to be putting on GFA Family Fun Day at Victoria Park in Inverleigh. This event has been running for almost 30 years and over the years has made a huge contribution to the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. As a community the township of Inverleigh has donated over $720,000 since our event started.
We appreciate the town's support in the past and would love to have the town's support once again. Support comes in many different forms. Here are some ways you can support us.
1) We are looking for volunteers for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Even a couple of hours is a huge help. We provide lunch on Friday for any person that wishes to help us any of the three days.
2) We are an approved donation partner with the "Container Deposit Scheme". If you would like to support us in this way please search "Inverleigh" on the app. Every can and glass bottle helps us deliver more money for the Royal Children's Hospital.
3) Make a donation via our "Shout for Good" page. The money goes directly to the Good Friday Appeal however it is added to our total. Donate via the link below.
4) Invite your family and friends to Inverleigh for the Family Fun Day. To avoid the queue pre-purchase Easter Egg hunt, ride and activity tickets via the link below.

Those Magnificent Men in Their flying Machines
The April calendar image is a great photo of the tandem, open cockpit, Tiger Moth biplane over Inverleigh taken by Philip Bassett. In recent times the Inverleigh RSL has arranged a fly over by a Tiger Moth from Cressy Aerodrome during the Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies. Heard long before it is seen, a dot tracking along the Hamilton Highway, it is a poignant reminder of the men and women who served in the RAAF. Over 800 Tiger Moths were acquired during WWII by Australia and used as training aircraft.
Cressy Airfield was home to the Armament Training Squadron from 1939 and with Laverton and Point Cook fully occupied, it then became a major training base. If you were training to become an Observer/Navigator in 1943, your subjects would include patrol and search, instruments, maps and charts reading, magnet and compass, meteorology, signals, reconnaissance, ship recognition, photography. All theory was done in the Lecture hall and practical would have been done, at the time, in either the Wirraways or Avro Arsons. The Inverleigh Historical Society has a photo taken of a plane from Cressy which came down in a paddock near the railway line towards Murgheboluc.
In 2025, the De Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth now based at Cressy is nicknamed “Millie”. She was built in the United Kingdom and was delivered to RAAF in 1940. Following the war she was sold in Tasmania into private hands

and spent most of her life in New South Wales. Purchased by Perlam Aviation P/L in 2021 she is now used for scenic flights out of Cressy Aerodrome and will be at the Avalon Air Show.
The Tiger Moth is an open tandem cockpit biplane that has a fuselage constructed from steel tubing and covered in a combination of fabric and thin plywood. The wings and tail plane are constructed of timber and covered with fabric. Struts and wires keep the wings stable. The ‘moth’ moniker came from the early prototypes because the wings could be folded back against the fuselage for storage “Like a moth” said the inventor Geoffrey de Havilland, a noted lepidopterist, and nine of his designs used the Moth name.

Regards, Wendy.
"It's rainin' over Inverleigh." I heard the old man say. He'd just been down to check for mail, and seen the clouds that way.
"We could do with some here too; it never comes to us. It always rains at Inverleigh; we always miss the bus."
"The crops do well 'round Inverleigh, because of all that rain. Canola tops the fence wires, and thick and dense the grain. The harvesters work overtime, to get it in the shed. Before it starts to rain AGAIN! Can't let it all get wet.
"The grass grows high 'round Inverleigh, because of all that rain. It goes deep down into the soil, and germinates the grain. 'Cause they've got decent soil there, not like this rotten clay! They've got the soil, they've got the rain - they've got it all their way!
"The stock grow fat 'round Inverleigh, cause they've got so much feed. Not like this junk we have here. Just look, it's mostly weed. Bet they get good prices too, when they go in for sale. Compared to sheep we've got 'round here, theirs is a bloomin' whale!
"Hang on - what's that? A raindrop? Well, stone the flamin' crows!
Another, and another one. Look out - down it goes, Run for cover - in the shed. Just watch it on that wood, A- rainin' here in Bannockburn! Ah, that does me heart good."
Victoria Park volunteers use the Metal Skip Bin to help fund the upkeep of the park.
• Absolutely NO non metal items.
• NO wire, rubber, plastic, wood, bags or e-waste,
• No tyres, batteries, gas cylinders.
• If wood, rubber, plastic etc are attached to your metal, remove it before bringing the metal to Vic Park.
• Never fill the bin over the water line.
If the "Bin is Full" sign is up, place metal items at the stump or come back another day.
Hello all,
I recently attended a collision between a vehicle and a train in Railway Street Inverleigh where, fortunately, the impact was to the rear of the vehicle instead of the driver’s section which could have led to a fatality. When I first arrived at the station over ten years ago, I was made aware of another collision on the same train line in Inverleigh and I also attended a fatal accident involving another car and a train in Cressy earlier in my time here so they are not an uncommon occurrence. All these incidents involved locals who would have been aware of the crossings and train movements along the line. A lot of the smaller crossings do not have boom gates so extra caution is needed when crossing the line and always look in both directions to see that no train is approaching. Don’t assume that just because the bells and lights are not sounding that it is automatically clear because in the past, I have attended faults with the signals at various crossings.
I was recently trained and qualified in the roadside drug testing program and have the equipment to carry out the testing. If some people in the community are taking drugs and on occasions, I do receive information about this, be aware that there is now a greater likelihood that you will be detected and lose your licence if caught. Some drugs can stay in a driver’s system a lot longer than they be aware so I would recommend not indulging in the first place and not driving afterwards. If you want some indication
of what the process looks like, try watching some of the police shows on TV like RBT. The council have assisted after a request and removed some of the bush vegetation from the picnic/camping area off the Hamilton Highway which led to some interesting finds including a firearm and a quantity of syringes discarded in them. The area around the bushes had attracted some long-term campers in the past who were often seen urinating into the bushes and who police and ambulance were often called to. It has nicely opened-up the area and hopefully addresses the issue of the unsociable people staying there.
I recently attended the Shelford duck race with the "Police pipe band" which I have not seen out this way in a long time, so it was good to catch up with the members. The weather was great, and the event was well attended so well done to the organisers. The football and netball seasons should have started by the time that the article appears so good luck to the clubs and hopefully you have a good year.
New Shed
Pictured above are members of the Inverleigh Progess Association stahding at the front of the recently constructed Shed
You might have noticed action at the hall with a fence coming down and a large concrete slab being laid. Soon you will see the erection of the new 9m X 6m insulated shed. The shed and surrounding paths and connections are being funded by a Victorian State Government Tiny Towns $50,000 grant received by the Hall Committee last year. The local contribution is in a lot of in-kind work by our dedicated committee. There will be a garaport at the front which will provide a shaded area within the back yard. The fence and gate will go back ensuring that the yard is child proof again. The shed will be used for storage for the Hall Committee and user groups and to free up areas in the interior of the hall currently used for storage.

Over the last few months the local region of CFA ( region 7) have used several Community Engagement officers that are employed by CFA to conduct personal door to door visits and also talk to campers in a the various camping sites we have locally.
The household visits have been mainly up in the new estates and in particular homes that are close to the common. They have tried to conduct these visits on several occasions on days leading up to predicted bad fire weather days so that the messages they deliver will be fresh in peoples minds if anything were to happen.
These visits cover things like your fire plan and what you do on bad fire days or in the case of an emergency, where your home might be under threat or you have to evacuate. They also cover things such as basic garden design and what sort of plants would be suitable to reduce the fire risk. House and surrounds preparation are also covered, things like clean gutters, will hoses reach around the house? Could a fire truck get up the driveway?
A lot of this information is available on line or at events that the CFA attends and while a lot of people think that they will get around to it one day, more often than not, it does not seem to happen. These visits seem to
highlight what can be done to help both yourself and your property, and the CFA need to be congratulated for a program such as this.
So if you have encountered these CFA Engagement Officers then please listen to what they have to say and try to implement the suggestions they have offered.
You never know it might just save your life or your property.

Our Juniors have been exploring Dinosaurs thi s term. They have measured how big dinosaurs wer e, learnt all about fossils and had a visit from a real-life T-Rex (Ms Stansfield loves dressing up ). Our budding palaeontologists had a wonderful time excavating our sandpit for dinosaur bones. They were so excited to put on their safety gear, grab their brushes and begin their discoveries. As all scientists do, they captured their findings on their iPads and used reference books to help try to identify the fossils they uncovered.

Pictured is Judy Howlett from Inverleigh with her Giant pumpkin and it hasn't finished growing yet! It is the product of seeds from the Inverleigh food swap. We are not quite sure how big it's going to get but have had a lot of fun watching it grow. I predict we will be eating more pumpkin pie and caramelised roasted pumpkin in the near future.
Also, pictured left, is a giant Rhubarb growing in Greg W's vege garden here in Inverleigh. We certainly have some green thumbs amongst here. I wonder, is it possible to make Pumpkin and Rhubarb pie?

It is extremely important for you to keep your pet’s microchip details up to date as it is the best way to ensure you and your best friend can be reunited.
Every year thousands of animals are admitted to shelters or bought to veterinary clinics without microchips, or with microchips that have not been updated, making it very hard for them to be returned to their owners.
If you move house or change phone numbers it is very important to contact the registry your pet's microchip is listed with and have these details updated.
If you don't know which registry your pet is listed with you can search the microchip number at www.petaddress.com.au and you will be directed to the relevant registry.
With Easter and school holidays fast approaching here are a few tips for holidaying with pets.
Whether you decide to leave your pet at home and have a family member or friend care for them, leave your pet at a boarding facility or even take them on holidays with you, please make sure your pet is up to date with the following:
Heartworm protection
Flea and Tick prevention
Medication – if your pet is on medications, don’t forget to ensure you will have enough to last while you are away.
Ensure your pet is wearing a collar with correct information on the tag.
Ensure all details are up to date on your pet’s microchip information.
Goldfish can remember things that happened up to 3 months ago
Dogs have an amazing sense of smell. A German Shepherd has 220 million smelling cells compared to a humans 5 million.
Dogs have a visual range of 250 degrees compared to a humans range of 180 degrees.
Dogs nose prints are as unique as a humans fingerprint
Let the clinic know you will be away and who will be looking after your pet. If leaving your pet with a pet sitter or in a boarding facility leave your contact number and your veterinarians contact number in case of an emergency.
Caged animals such as birds, guinea pigs, rabbits and rodents can be taken to a friend or sitter's home. Supply the carer with information that outlines feeding, water needs, temperature control and medications if required.
If you would like to make an appointment please call our clinic reception on 5281 1221.
We recently had an alpaca come into the clinic for a castration procedure. Dr Hugh and nurse Lily made sure he had a comfortable bed, a smooth anaesthetic, a problem free procedure and a warm wake up in a deep bed of straw.
After an uneventful recovery he was collected by his owners to return home to his friends.
If you have an animal that needs castration please call the clinic on 52811221 to arrange an appointment.

A humble beginning for Bannockburn Surgery when it first opened its doors in 1983 – small rooms located between what was the original supermarket and pharmacy.
Soon outgrowing these rooms, they moved in 1986 to 19 High Street with two consulting rooms, a small treatment room and tiny tearoom for its team members. Its current building (16 High Street) was opened in the year 2000 – a purpose-built practice complete with five consulting rooms and a sixth added in 2010.
The practice has grown from strength to strength and has a wonderfully dedicated team of Doctors, Nurses, Reception team and Practice Manager. They also have access to high-quality Allied Health services including podiatry and newly introduced acupuncture with Dr Rimas Liubinas, with plans for more services to follow.
For Bannockburn Surgery who celebrated their forty-year anniversary a few weeks ago, this was a proud milestone. The surgery welcomed back former team members: doctors, nurses, administration staff, and allied health for an evening of festivities reminiscing on the past forty-years and what the future holds for the practice.
The Directors (and Principal GPs) of Bannockburn Surgery would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to those whom have been part of their practice team, past and present. And also extends a warm thank you to patients for ongoing support in entrusting their health to the team at Bannockburn Surgery and their journey.
The surgery has a proud history and is incredibly excited for the future. Not only the future of Bannockburn Surgery, but also in continuing to support the growing community of Bannockburn and its surrounds. The surgery has grand plans and is eagerly awaiting to commence build

of their purpose-built facility to be located next door to their current premises.
It is pleased to announce that another GP Registrar will be joining the team from August, Dr Ernest Cheng, which will extend the provision of service even further. They are also very fortunate that their two current GP Registrars; Dr Bushra Akhund and Dr Abhi Selvakumar will be continuing at the practice for an additional six months.
Bannockburn Surgery doctors will be continuing to bulk-bill patients with healthcare cards and pension cards, as well as those under 16 years old.
