June Oliver was a well known resident of Inverleigh, especially when Red Door Cafe was operating in High Street Inverleigh. You would find her there most days, catching up with local friends. On one occasion June had taken herself to Red Door and met up with close friend Denise, and together they decided to go to Geelong to watch a movie. The cafe eventually came to closing time and Danny, proprietor of Red Door was concerned. Her car is here, but where was June? This developed into a full on town search to find the well know and loved local resident which carried on for some time. It all ended well, eventually, much to the relief of many of her friends and of course the Red Door staff.
June was one of 7 children (she was the middle child) and was born in 1927, and due to circumstances at the time, was brought up by her grandparents who live in Bonny Doon. She met her husband there and together they had 3 children, all boys, Andrew, Geoff and Ken. In January 1973 they moved with Geoff and Isabel to the farm property "Englewood Park" at Inverleigh. June loved sport, all sport, especially Golf and played pennant with a handicap of 9. She won many championships at Winchelsea, and much to the annoyance of other club players, in her significant tournament, they were beaten by a B***dy 80 year old.
Bowls was another love for June, and even when too old to play, was often found as a spectator at the local club, even watching the game from the comfort of her car. An active member of Red Cross and a local ladies craft group, she made Trauma Teddies for children, but always insisted that the group members not start chatting until she got there.
June loved going for a drive, recalls Joy Gray, and in true Mrs Bucket style, give orders to the driver to "go down there" just see what was at the end of the road? (Turning the car around was not her concern}.
Rest in peace June, you are very fondly remembered in Inverleigh as one able to cope, no matter the circimstance, even calmly shutting the snake that entered your house in the bathroom and returning to bed at 2am, leaving it to Geoff to deal with in the morning, Peter Trevaskis-Editor.
Well done Harry Coleman
Harry Coleman, aged 12, is a local resident of Inverleigh and this year will be beginning his Secondary Education at Geelong Baptist College. During his time at Inverleigh Primary, Harry has been playing Lawn Bowls at Inverleigh Bowls Club. It is no surprise that Harry has taken to this sport as Mum and Dad, Suzy and Mark Coleman have been long term players in the sport, in fact Mark has recently been appointed as Bowls Australia Regional Bowls Manager for the Geelong and Metro Melbourne areas of Victoria. He is also very strongly supported by sister Kelsey and little brother Dallas, who is also very keen on Bowls too.
A long list of achievements make-up Harry’s Bowling resume, and will continue to grow in the short and long term future as he progresses. He has is eyes firmly set on the Commonwealth Games and has already achieved placement in an event at State Level for the under 18's. The family has transferred membership to Geelong City Bowls Club where Harry is currently playing Premier Division to extend his experience. That being so, Harry’s answer to the question “Where do you come from?” is always the immediate reply…..I’m from Inverleigh, in Victoria.
Harry was rolling bowls on the green at a very young age and has been playing Pennant Bowls in Inverleigh since he was 7 years old. Here are some of his achievements so far: 2022-2023 Season:
• Geelong Bowling Region (GBR), under 18 Champion.
• Represented GBR in men’s Open Seniors.
• Winner of the Whykes Shield, representing Geelong @ the Belmont Bowling Club.
• Reached round of 16 with his Mum Suzy at the Victorian Pairs Open @ Shepparton in mixed pairs.
• Victoria U18 Team Member for School Sport Australia -National Championships.
• Received Citizen Recognition Award from Golden Plains Shire, recently presented by GPSC Mayor, Councillor Brett Cunningham.

Bowls Singles Championships
What a fantastic day we had on Sunday 15th January for the 2023 Inverleigh Bowls Club Singles Championship finals. The weather was so much cooler than the day before and the breeze, though strong, was refreshing and enjoyable (though maybe proved a challenge for the players!).
The Men’s singles between Rob Meek and John (Hendo) Henderson was a great tussle with lots of tight bowling and serious concentration. John was even a little concerned it was too quiet and called for crowd participation at one stage. Max marked for the men and kept it all under control. The final result was Hendo as the winner—25 to 19. Well done John!
The ladies final was played between Joy Gray and Lesley Johns with Marj overseeing what was a very tight game from start to finish. The crowd were all on edge as the 2 ladies were neck-a-neck for the entire game. The final result was a win to Joy Gray 25 to 24. Can’t get much closer than that!
The games were followed by a club lunch (thanks to our Farm Foods sponsors for the meat yet again!) It was great to see June and Gary Belleville come for the day and to have Ken and Faye, Barb Meek and Maureen Iles also dropping in to view the game and join us for lunch. Well done to our two new Champions for 2023—John Henderson and Joy Gray!!!!

The Progress Association has been actively working towards improving the amenity of Inverleigh for over 40 years. Of course all such organisations need volunteers and the Association is no exception. Without them nothing happens. If you have some ideas for the town you would like to achieve, you are welcome to join us and help achieve them.
Some of the projects completed by the Progress Association include:
The Federation Bridge which was built to commemorate the centenary of Federation in 2001. Walking Tracks were established with lots of support from the community, including fencing and tree planting. Public Toilets Progress Association members worked for many years with Council to have the old toilets removed and a new block built, which did not detract from the entrance to our town. They are used more than any other toilets in the Shire.
The Clock a new clock was recently installed on the clock tower in our main street, clearly visable from the General Store across the road.
Town Entrance Signs. IPA worked for many years to procure the 2 Entrance Signs (Hamilton Highway East and West) welcoming travellers to our town.
The Inverleigh Historical Society was formed in 2004. It operates under the auspices of the Inverleigh Mechanics Institute and Public Hall Committee.
Our Aims are to collect and preserve items of local historic interest and to promote research and interest in local history.

We undertake many interesting projects and have enjoyable meetings, which you are welcome to attend.
Peter’s Editorial
2023 has started and the first month is gone already. I trust you all had a good breakand enjoyed the many events happening around the district.
The Great Victorian Bike ride saw Inverleigh cope with 2 to 3 thousand overnight visitors with the whole event running smoothly for all involved. Beyond the Valley Music Festival, despite all it's traffic issues, was a great success too.
I have had a great time compiling this issue too. Reading the Calendar article compiled by the Inverleigh Historical Society, with words by Luanne Thornton, gives the reader a great perspective on the history of our water supply.
I enjoy hearing from long term local residents on many issues. I would loved to have lived here in bygone years, when many locals had a house cow each, left to graze the streets of the village all day and find their way home for milking each evening.
Happy New Year to you all and if you ever have a story to submit to the Leigh News, I will be very happy to receive it for publication. Enjoy 2023 and remember how fortunate we are to live here.

Inverleigh Stand Pipes and Water Pumps.
Provided by the Inverleigh Progress Association (IPA), and located in Lawsons Park, these pumps are available for local residents to provide river water for farm stock and private gardens.
Over recent years, the stand pipe has been increased to 2 pipes and a second upgraded pump installed. Very recently, the Pump House itself has been rebuilt as well.
Murray McMillan is taking over responsibilities for distribution of Keys and new residents can contact Murray on 0408 036 783 if they would like to take part in this service.
Please call at 60 Napier Street, Inverleigh, after making phone contact with Murray. He will get new clients to complete a registration form with your contact details, including name, address, phone number and email address. A key will be provided for your personal use only. Payment can be made by Cash ($69 total) or an invoice can be forwarded to your email address. Payments for 2023 are now required.
Our Treasurer has just compiled Standpipe invoices, to be sent out late January, about the 29th. Please make your payment as per the details on the invoice as soon as possible. A late fee of $7 will be imposed on users not paying promply. Also, if anyone has a key but didn’t receive an invoice, please let us know by email to leighnews@bigpond.com.
A lot of work goes into providing this service for our community, like: removing the Pumps from the Pump Shed during the recent flood incident, to avoid damage to these expensive items as well as general maintenence.
Your co-operation with all of the above will ensure that this valuable service will continue well into 2023 and beyond.

Inverleigh Water
The two pump sheds shown in the Inverleigh Historical Society calendar for February tell some part of the history of Inverleigh’s water supply. The one on the left was a private shed housing a pump owned by the adjacent landowner from the Horseshoe Inn (“Lawson’s”) nearby for stock and domestic use. Residents owning blocks of land fronting the Leigh River were permitted to pump from the river, providing they supplied their own pump and infrastructure.
Prior to town water being supplied to residents in the original township of Inverleigh, they supplied their own tanks to collect rain water from the roof of their house or shed for all their water needs. Tanks were usually made of corrugated iron and were not huge, so the amount of water caught did not always allow enough for flower and produce gardens. Rainfall is fickle and as most people know a very wet year may be followed by a number of dry ones, when water is at a premium. As now there were water carters, who charged for their services.
In 1946 town councillors were considering a dam on the Moorabool River to supply the townships of Bannockburn and Meredith with town water. By 1951 Bannockburn Shire Council was making further efforts to supply water to Bannockburn and Inverleigh from a Moorabool supply and by 1952 the residents of Inverleigh had approved a plan to supply water to the 450 residents at a cost of £10,650. The population at the 1976 census was 252, so there was room for some expansion.
The Bannockburn and District Waterworks Trust was founded in 1969 to supply most of the Shire of Bannockburn as well as Teesdale and Shelford. A pumping station and service basin was built on the Moorabool River near Meredith and reticulated water was turned on in 1974, although ideas had been discussed as early as 1946. The original supply for Inverleigh came by pipe from Bannockburn along Harvey Road and into a water tower 85 metres above the town on the north bank of the Leigh River which enabled a fair water pressure. In 1976 Shelford was connected via a pipeline from Meredith. Another main from Sheoaks supplied Bannockburn. After a merger and later takeover by the Geelong and District Water Board, now Barwon Water, supplies to Teesdale and Inverleigh were improved. Bores sunk near Inverleigh had proved to
be too saline for potable water. The bore field in the Otways has been contentious and pumping from the ground water stopped.
Our current supply comes by pipe from Teesdale, travelling from a header tank on the corner of Bakers Lane and the Teesdale Shelford Road and along the road edge of the Common Road firebreak. Another line feeds from Bannockburn. Lal Lal and Stoney Creek reservoirs supply Inverleigh and there is a water treatment plant at Sheoaks. A 1998 Inverleigh Structure Plan for Inverleigh suggested a water supply beyond Mahers Road, which is higher than the town would require booster pumps to enable household supply. This is still on our wish list and still features on our current Structure plan. The second shed was erected and initially a diesel pump paid for and maintained by the by the Inverleigh Progress Association. This was a community service for local residents, who were unable to collect enough water to supply all their household needs. A key system was introduced and still applies. Residents can purchase a key to use the pump.
In September 2020 the original private shed was dismantled, and a new shed built on the footprint of the old Progress Association shed. This now houses two electric pumps with a more convenient arrangement of taps. The treasurer of the Progress Association, Tony Waayers, who has since moved into Geelong, designed the building and organised the work to be done. Painting was done by the Leigh District Lions Club. The building works cost $4,750 and was financed by the Association. Murray McMillan is now the contact who organises and maintains a list of keys. His details are in the Leigh News.

Spare Time
Who has enough! I hear them shout. While rushing there and here about, Not enough time to think, they yell, Oh, give me a break, I need a spell. Kids and work take all my time, There’s nothing left, none of mine. It’s just rush and rush all day, I’ve had enough! I hear them say. Oh, to have some time to spare, It’s not asking too much, let’s be fair, One minute or two is all I ask’ One less job, one less task.
I can’t think anymore, I’m all worn out. There are things I can’t do; I need to flout. When does it stop, this mad chase of time? When does the time become all mine? Stop and think, you don’t need to do all, Just have a thought, you don’t need to fall.
Spare time, like busyness is all your own making, You need to stop; you need to stop faking! Make yourself time, and make it spare, Throw away the jobs, and get some fresh air. You only have one life, so make it last, Slow down your life before it’s all past!

POLICE REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 2023
Hello all,
It’s early January when I am writing this and I know what a lot of you are thinking, wow, what was that!!!! Four to five days of high volumes of traffic through the township and on the highway, P Platers, Interstate plates everywhere, busy businesses in town, vehicles left in random locations about the area and lots of tired/emotional people and extreme traffic issues on New Years Day for Geelong bound traffic on the Hamilton Hwy. For those that do not know it was Beyond the Valley Music festival in Barunah Plains. Hopefully most of you avoided being on the roads during the time especially on New Years Day. Took me five minutes at one point just to get out of the station driveway.
I was really concerned about collisions as lots of inexperienced drivers with no knowledge of the roads would be attending the festival. Over the period of the festival I did attend two collisions involving people going to/leaving the festival including a roll over on New Years day and heard about two other collisions that Police were not called to but thankfully there appears to have been no one injured.
Put your experiences of the roads during the period in the memory bank for future years so you can hopefully avoid the roads as much as possible during the periods of high traffic volumes especially on New Years day. Detected a P Plater on election day 175 km/h in 100 km/h zone travelling East on the Hamilton Hwy Inverleigh and then was still at 153 km/h in the 80 km/h zone ap-
proaching the sporting grounds. The vehicle pulled over outside the primary school, the driver was interviewed and the vehicle was impounded the cost of which was over $1000 in itself. The driver will receive a summons to attend Geelong court at a later date.
Stop signs have been installed on Dundas Street on either side of the Hamilton Hwy so please be aware of them and adhere to the requirement to stop. There have been several serious collisions at the intersection over the years so hopefully these can be avoided in the future now with the signs.
We had a theft of a motor vehicle from a rural property off the Hamilton Hwy around Stonehaven. I subsequently came across the vehicle driving West through Inverleigh but it took off and was unable to be intercepted and ended up in South Australia. Please be aware of suspect loitering around rural properties and keep your vehicles, sheds and houses secure because you never know when an opportunistic offender might be around checking for unlocked properties and vehicles.
There are Cameras at the Inverleigh Primary school now which capture behaviours in the school grounds out of hours so please be aware and if children are attending there let them know (They should only be there with a parent anyway).
Keep safe

The following photos of flowers were taken by Neil Anderton who led our Wildflower Walk last in Spring - Blue Squill, Parrot Pea, Rabbit Ears Orchid and Glycine Labtrobeana. All tiny and hard to spot.

The Fiddler beetle or Eupoecila australasiae is given its name as the back looks a bit like a violin. It’s about 15- 20 mill in length and lives in Eastern and South Eastern Australia and is found in Eucalypt Woodland - which we’re lucky enough to have some of here. A lot of you would have welcomed the new year in to the sounds of the “Beyond the Valley” music festival, whether you were there or not. From all reports the festival went well and there were no incidents of any scale to worry the fire brigade. The Festival organisers gave the fire brigade a generous donation that was much appreciated.
There were a lot of people in the town and traffic on the roads, and I did hear reports the public toilets were overwhelmed, but overall, it went reasonably smoothly. They were quite lucky with the weather as while it was warm, it did not get too hot or windy for them. Apparently, there was a lot of sunburn. The traffic at the closing of the festival was steady and slow and was challenging for some of the patrons with the delays. So it was this last part of the event that caught the attention of some of the talk back radio in the days after the event. Without going into a lot of detail, the general complaints were, it was too hot, too long to get out, running out of fuel, cars overheating, and running out of water to drink.
Now these issues should not come as surprise as it was a large event held in the summertime. The real un-
derlying issue is that a lot of people where not prepared for something slightly unexpected.
As firefighters we have seen over the years many instances of people being placed in an unexpected situations with no preparation. A lot of these things are so basic, such as not driving around with your fuel light on when you are not near a service station, make sure you have enough fuel for a reasonable journey, Have a look at your oil and water in your engine, carry a few bottles of water in the car. These simple things could make a big difference to an emergency or evacuation outcome. Make sure on days of fire threat or extreme heat that you have a good amount of fuel and the vehicle is in good condition and leave some water in there as well. Often if you have to move quickly or you are stopped at a roadblock because of a fire, you just don’t have time to get these things.
Lastly I was disappointed to hear a lot of people complain about not being told they needed water and fuel and the like and blaming others for their problems. At the end of the day sometimes you just need to be proactive and take care of yourself and think about the environment you are in and what could possibly happen while your there.
Don’t wait to be told, think about it and just do it.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
Making New Year’s resolutions is not my thing. I find I am making resolutions throughout the year in response to different situations that arise. The other reason I don’t make New Year’s resolutions is because so often I fail in keeping them. There are reasons why our resolutions may fail and here is a response to those reasons especially where they relate to your significant relationships.
Halt the comparison game.
We know we shouldn’t do it, but it can be just so easy to fall into the trap of comparing aspects of our life to others. Maybe it’s feeling like your house or car isn’t as nice as your friends’. Perhaps you feel “behind” all your peers when it comes to major life milestones. Or maybe it seems other couples have it all figured out. Here’s the thing: everyone has their own unique struggles and successes, so try not to invest energy in resolutions about whether or not we measure up to others. Be specific.
If you do make resolutions on New Year’s, being specific is going to help you be successful. Instead of simply resolving to achieve something big, create some specific goals of how to do that. You might plan a date night once a week with your partner, or train for another job that is more interesting, or eat less chocolate. Specific resolutions help toward the big goal rather than failing. Be mindful of expectations.
Expectations have a powerful influence. If we are consistently unhappy then it is good to examining our own expectations of life and relationships. Being aware of what we expect from life, and questioning those expectations, helps us to put in place resolutions that are

realistic and inspiring to fulfil. Focus on yourself.
When we take time to focus on our self we become more aware of insecurities, needs, and desires. Understanding of who we are, our skills, and our resources equips us better to make resolutions that we are actually able to complete. Without knowing ourselves, failure to achieve the resolutions cause us to become a greater sense of failure. Focus on our self also helps us implement resolutions that provide selfcare that recharges us.
Whether you make resolutions for the New Year or not, hopefully these tips will also foster a positive influence in your significant relationships throughout the year.

Revolution Discontinued
We want to let our clients know Revolution for dogs is being discontinued. We recommend changing to Simparica Trio. Simparica Trio aligns with the best practice guidelines in Australia for protecting against common parasites using the most effective and safe ingredients.
Rewards points will be carried over.
Revolution for Puppies and Kittens is still available.
We have had a heartworm positive case diagnosed at the clinic.
The dog has travelled down from Queensland and unfortunately was not on any heartworm prevention. Mosquitoes are the carriers of heartworm and given the influx due to the wet weather the parasite can quickly spread througout the region to our pets.
What you should do: Ensure your pet is on heartworm prevention. We recommend a Simparica Trio given as monthly chew or and annual injection of Proheart SR12.
To start your dog on heartworm prevention contact the clinic on 52811 221 Snake Season
Snakes are now active and there have been many sightings around the area. When snakes come out of hibernation there venom toxicity is at its highest. Dr. Kelly has put together this article to help you and your pet stay safe this summer.
How to reduce the risk of your pet being bitten by a snake.
Make your backyard less inviting to snakes - keep your grass cut short and clear any rubbish or garden piles (ie. rock, wood) that could offer a quiet, safe place for snakes to hide.
Keep pets inside on hot days, as this is when snakes are most active.
Walk dogs on a lead near bushland or water in hotter months. Always avoid tall grass and don't allow your pets to explore holes or dig under rocks. Always keep emergency veterinary details on hand.

What to do if you see a snake with your pet.
If you see a snake near your pet, try to safely remove your dog or cat from the situation. Do not approach the snake and be careful not to stand in their escape path. Most snakes will actively avoid you given the chance and will generally only strike if they feel threatened.
Don't try to capture or kill the snake, all Australian snakes are protected and you may put yourself in danger. If the snake is in your garden, contact your local snake catcher who can remove the snake and relocate it to a safe environment.
If you suspect your pet has been bitten. Keep them as still as possible and take them to the nearest vet immediately. Don't wait for the signs, as this can be too late.
If you can remember what the snake looked like this can be helpful to your vet.
How to tell if your pet has been bitten.
Pets are usually bitten around the head, neck or front legs, although bite marks are often difficult to find. Some pets will appear fine after a snake bite, then go down hill rapidly. Others may collapse, then get up again and appear fine. However, the longer you wait before getting your pet to the vet, the lower its chance of survival.
Sometimes owners don't spot their pet with a snake, however if your pet is showing any of the following signs take them to the vet immediately.
Sudden weakness, inability to stand
Collapse
Dialated pupils
Rapid, shallow breathing
Vomiting/Diarhoea
Shaking
Loss of bladder or bowel control
Blood in urine or vomit
Heartworm is a serious disease that can cause heart failure, lung disease, organ damage and death. Heartworm disease can be deadly, but we can easily and safely prevent heartworm in our pets.
There are many heartworm preventatives available. Prevention should begin at 6 -8 weeks of age. If your dog has not had heartworm medication for more than six months, a blood test is necessary before you commence preventative treatment.
The most convenient protection for dogs is a yearly injection that can be given at the same time as your dog's annual health check and vaccination. This is Proheart SR12.
There are also tablets and spot-on applications for dogs and cats that are given monthly. Some of the products we recommend are Revolution and Simparica Trio.
Mosquitoes are hard to keep out of both your yard and house, so even and indoor pet is at risk .
If you require any further information please contact the clinic to ensure your pet is protected from heartworm. Continued page 36.

Sayba's Trip To Italy
Our Doctors Kylie and Peter were recently warmly thanked by client Murray for helping getting his assistance dog "Sayba" (Cavoodle) ready to fly with him in the passenger cabin from Melbourne to Rome, Italy and back last year.
The veterinary preperations were complex, in order to comply with extensive Australian Agriculture Department's export (and import) conditions, and I received great support from both Peter and Kylie said Murray.
Sayba travelled comfortably in the aircraft with flight sectors of 8 hours and then 13 hours, each way. She slept almost all the way, and didn't need any sedation.

CONGRATULATIONS TO COMMUNITY AWARD WINNERS
Council congratulat es the worthy winners of the Golden Plains Shire Council Community Awards 202 2.
The Golden Plains Shire Council (GPSC) Community Awards 2022 were presented this afternoon, Tuesday 24 January, at an event at the Dereel Community Hall where all award nominees were recognised and this year’s winners announced.
The Golden Plains Shire Council Citize n of the Year 2022 is Jaymee-Lin Ellis of Smythesdale
Jaymee-Lin Ellis volunteered her time and expertise to assist the Woady Yaloak Historical Society and the Smythesdale Progress Association to improve the Smythesdale Country Market. Jaymee -Lin has been instrumental in the growth of the market and with Jaymee -Lin’s support the event has become so popular that people travel to Smythesdale specifically for the market, stopping at the cafés and shops on the main streets, supporting local businesses. Jaymee-Lin also runs GenkiFit, a small community fitness program in Smythesdale and is also president of the Woady Yaloak Recreation Factility Committee of Management.
The GPSC Citizen of the Year 2022 nominees were Leah Phillips of Meredith, Shona Eland of Bannockburn, Melissa Gillett of Bannockburn and Stuart McCallum of Bannockburn.
The Golden Plains Shire Council Senior Citizen of the Year 2022 is Dr Jill Wheeler of Linton
Dr Jill Wheeler works tirelessly as the Linton and District Historical Society President. Dr Wheeler is passionate about the history of Linton and has been an advocate for Linton to be a key historical precinct in the north of the Shire. Dr Wheeler was the key instigator in the commissioning of the sculpture of Dr Vera Scantl ebury (WW1 Veteran surgeon) which is to be unveiled in 2023. Dr Wheeler has also been successful in securing local, state and federal government grants to restore the Linton library.
Council would also like to recognise Senior Citizen of the Year 2022 nominee Heather Butler of Rokewood.
The Golden Plains Shire Council Young Citizen of the Year 2022 is Jayden Scheier of Bannockburn.
Jayden Scheier of Bannockburn is an integral and valued member of the Youth Activation Committee, FReeZA Committee and a supporter of Youth Service programs more broadly. As a young person, Jayden has demonstrated an outstanding ability and commitment to seizing opportunities to empower and engage young people and is a profound example of how valuable young people are as leaders in the community. Jayden has made a significant contribution to the Golden Plains community, specifically in supporting and advocating for young people. Council would also like to recognise Young Citizen of the Year 2022 nominee Jemma Mizzi of Lethbridge.
The Golden Plains Shire Council Community Impact Award 2022 was presented to the Mannibadar Settlement Committee.
The Mannibadar Settlement Committee hosted a significant communi ty event on March 27, 2022, to mark the 100th anniversary celebrations of the 1921 Mannibadar Solider Settlement. In the lead up to the event the Mannibadar Settlement Committee worked tirelessly to search for relatives of soldiers from across Australia, w hich was evident by the number of people that attended the event. There was also an extensive display of historical photos and memorabilia, and a large brass plaque embedded into a granite boulder was unveiled. THE GREAT VICTORIAN BIKE RIDE VISITS INVERLEIGH
Riders were expected to arrive in Inverleigh about midday on the Saturday, having ridden from Anglesea to Inverleigh, but the enthusiastic riders started arriving about 9:30. Once they had "clocked in" their arrival at Inverleigh they had the remainder of the day to enjoy the Village and all it had to offer. A market was held adjacent to Children Park and Toilet Block with other retail outlets enjoying providing the riders with some retail therapy. The Inverleigh Golf Club provided a mini bus service to the Golf Club for the riders to enjoy good old country hospitality.
The Bike ride itself was a very well organised event and ran as smoothly as a swiss watch. There were teams of workers who, following dismantling the many tents etc. transported them from the previous stopover to Inverleigh and erected them again ready for the riders and their support staff. Everything was available: showers, with hot water, toilets, food outlets etc right down to rubbish bins, all neatly laid out on the football and cricket ovals.
I had the pleasure of meeting 4 of the leadership team at Inverleighs General Store, and complimented them on such a well organised event and I took the liberty of inviting them to return some day. In return, they shared with me that they found Inverleigh to be a most welcoming and friendly town and they thoughly enjoyed their visit here. A special mention to the CWA and others at the Inverleigh Public Hall for making the visitors so welcome.
