The Progress Association has been actively working towards improving the amenity of Inverleigh for over 40 years. Of course all such organisations need volunteers and the Association is no exception. Without them nothing happens. If you have some ideas for the town you would like to achieve, you are welcome to join us and help achieve them. Some of the projects completed by the Progress Association include: The Federation Bridge which was built to commemorate the centenary of Federation in 2001. Walking Tracks were established with lots of support from the community, including fencing and tree planting. Public Toilets Progress Association members worked for many years with Council to have the old toilets removed and a new block built, which did not detract from the entrance to our town. They are used more than any other toilets in the Shire. The Clock a new clock was recently installed on the clock tower in our main street, clearly visable from the General Store across the road. Town Entrance Signs. IPA worked for many years to procure the 2 Entrance Signs (Hamilton Highway East and West) welcoming travellers to our town.
The Inverleigh Historical Society was formed in 2004. It operates under the auspices of the Inverleigh Mechanics Institute and Public Hall Committee. Our Aims are to collect and preserve items of local historic interest and to promote research and interest in local history. We welcome all donations to our collection or the opportunity to copy material. We are most grateful to the many people who have kept the Historical Society in mind as they sorted through their own collections. We undertake many interesting projects and have enjoyable meetings, which you are welcome to attend.

Peter’s Editorial
Welcome to Winter! Despite the cold mornings and chilly nights, we still get to enjoy some lovely days. There has been so much happening around Inverleigh and district, its hard not to get excited about it all. Covid cant hold us back! example: Inverleigh Book Bazaar. Had to be held back a couple of weeks and in the end, far exceeded everyone expectations and funds raised on previous occassions. example: Pop Up Youth Space. again exceeded all expectations and supplying answers to a real need. example: Landcare. Training up children in planting trees for the future. example: a new sign on our public hall. and doesn't it look great. A big shout out to all the many volunteers who worked together to bring all of these projects to completion or to ongoing success. Well done to you all. And the challenge is to keep it up, despite perseved setbacks. If you haven't thought about volunteering in some capacity, get involved and give it a go. You will be greatly rewarded.
NEW SIGN FOR INVERLEIGH PUBLIC HALL
The long-awaited new sign for the hall was erected on June 8th 2021. The Inverleigh Public Hall Committee would like to thank its members Keith and Katrina Robson and Christine Windle, who led this project in consultation with all members. We are most grateful to local graphic designer, Holly Windle, who donated her time and skills to help us sort out a brief, and then provided us with numerous designs and mock-ups to choose from. Thanks to those who have supported the Hall Committee fundraising, proceeds of which go to maintaining and improving the hall. We are extremely grateful to the Bendigo Bank Bannockburn and District Connected Communities for their grant

contribution towards the cost of the sign, helping to counteract the impact of Covid 19 last year and allowing us to complete this project. A big thank you to Phil Roach and his team Brooklyn and Caitlin from Signraizer in Bannockburn. Phil helped us through the long permit process, made and installed our sign and was so easy and supportive to work with through the whole process. Thank you also to Matt Fry of Metal Edge Manufacturing in Inverleigh, who put together the supporting frame and assisted with installation. (Christine Windle)

INVERLEIGH BOOK BAZAAR REPORT
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Inverleigh Book Bazaar over the weekend 12th &13th June, 2021. We had an outstanding result raising just over $9,000.00 and were overwhelmed with the visitor numbers. Even with the lockdown restrictions and the exclusion of our Melbourne friends, we exceeded over 800 people over the two days. We thank everyone for following our Covid plan and guidelines and for your patience and understanding, as some of you had to wait outside due to the density limit in the hall. The QR code check in and request for ID worked seamlessly and everyone was very accommodating. A big shout out and huge thank you to the following for their generous donations of brand new or high quality books. In no particular order: The Book Bird, Geelong West Belinda Missen, Inverleigh author
Balmoral Grove The Verspaandonk family Keith from Beulah Pam from Derrinalum and thank you to everyone in the communities near and far for their generous donations. A further thank you to the Inverleigh Hall Committee and our volunteers for offering their support and many hours of assistance. A special thank you to: Katrina & Keith, Bruce & Liz, Christine & Keith, Anne-Maree, Bronwyn, Christine & Hannah, Isabell, Jane, Jo, Sara, Linda and Lion’s members Ralph & John. 6 Leigh News Inverleigh Youth Pop-Up Space success!
Inverleigh was the first town to trial a Pop-Up Youth Space run by the Golden Plains Shire Youth Team. This was set up by Mark De Campo, Golden Plains Shire, working in conjunction with Deb Morrison and Christine Windle, from the Inverleigh Progress Association. There was a wonderful response from Inverleigh’s young people, with an average about 40 attending each week. Being local was a key element, as young people could participate readily. Social mixing and reconnecting were a huge part of the enjoyment, with many commenting how great it was to meet new locals and to catch up with people they had not seen due to covid or to going to different secondary schools. For some who moved to Inverleigh as teenagers, it was a great way to meet people and increase their feeling of belonging to the community. The many expressions of gratitude for the PopUp Space, the opportunity to socialise and the many and varied activities for young people certainly meant that the Pop-Up Space was a huge success and was much appreciated by the community. At the last session on June 23rd, young people were given an insight into the results of the Inverleigh Youth Survey conducted by the Inverleigh Progress Association earlier this year. The responses gave a clear indication that provision for bike riding and for a court of some sort for netball and basketball were seen as wanted by young people and other members of the community. The Inverleigh Progress Association has identified these projects as priorities to investigate further and will work with Golden Plains Shire staff to see

what is feasible and to develop project plans. The young people at the Pop-Up Youth Space were asked their opinions and thoughts about courts and pump tracks. Their ideas were recorded for use in decision making and applying for grants. Thanks to Tony Orr, Charlotte Orr, Caroline Weiler and Christine Windle for their assistance with the consultation process, and to Deb Morrison for preparing the consultation materials. A very big thank you to all the young people for their enthusiasm and their thoughtful approach to the consultation. Christine Windle

G'Day from the Golden Penners. This month we are are going to profile one of our members. Gordon lives in the fine hills of Shelford, he and his partner decided recently that a tree change was for them, the house that they now live in became available so they, and their 2 little dogs moved in and they have been calling Shelford home for about 2 years now. Gordon hails from the misty shores of Scotland, but he has been living the Australian dream for many years now. Gordon found out about us from the Inverleigh newsletter and he emailed us and we welcomed him warmly. It was nice for us to have a new voice to add to our group. Gordon is a fine writer, we found that out straight away and we all look forward to hearing the pieces that he completes for homework. He is also a bit of a card, especially if our subject matter is of a humorous nature, he introduced a character in one of his pieces that the whole group took to and for several meetings that character appeared in other members stories as well. It caused all types of guffawing at our meetings, thankfully the room we use at the library has a door or the library staff might have had to throw us out for making way to much noise. Gordon is also a budding amateur photographer and he has already taken a series of photos of another member of our group, which I must say are very good. He certainly has a few fingers in a few pies. So accordingly it is a poem that Gordon wrote that is our feature piece this month, even though he will openly admit poetry is not one of his strong points, but we, at our group are encouraging him as much as we can. So til next month happy writing............

Lions Club of Inverleigh – Leigh Valley Covers Inverleigh, Teesdale, Shelford and districts.
Your Lions Club raises funds through the staffing of the Geelong Show entrance gates, car parking and entrance staffing at the Avalon Air Show, Bunnings sausage sizzles and the collection and sale of scrap newspapers and magazines from a wide area – including around Geelong (if you can, please deposit your used papers and magazines in marked wheely bins located at the Inverleigh Hall and Bannockburn Civic Centre).
In normal times we assist other organisations and events through operating our trailer bbq at the Shelford Duck Race, Inverleigh Good Friday Appeal and the Teesdale Australia Day Breakfast – (these events have been largely reduced in scope or curtailed during the current covid 19 pandemic). Our members also conduct community service such as regular mowing of the Inverleigh RSL grounds, assistance for people in need and jobs such as the recent painting of the Inverleigh pump shed. We are currently refurbishing the old shed at the Inverleigh cemetery. Campers at the Inverleigh road side reserve enjoy the use of the covered picnic table & seats we constructed a couple of years ago. We also installed a table & seats at Turtle Bend Teesdale and near the Federation Bridge in Inverleigh.
DID YOU KNOW: that every Friday there is a Bus Ser vice to Geelong, leaving the Inverleigh Public Hall a 9:30 am and leaving Geelong at 2:15 for the return trip. Why not organise a trip with a few friends and have a good chat on the way there and back.

JULY 2021 CALENDAR
2021 July 2021. Mavis, Sid, Norm & Olive “Over the line” Victoria Park, Inverleigh Thankfully the notation on this image from the Faye Shaw collection gives sufficient for an article. The only thing better would be if the sheep had pet names. Here we have four of the six children of John Montgomery Haygarth and Hilda Francis Anderson. Mavis born 1914, Sid 1921, Norm 1923 and Olive 1925. So we can deduce the photo was taken about 1927/8 on the Park Street football and cricket ground called Victoria Park. Many recreation reserves in the state were given the name following Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in June 1897. Geelong Advertiser 28 June , 1897 - The new park was opened on Tuesday in the presence of 500 people by Mr. R.K. Gillespie of Englewood, and named the Victoria Park, in honour of the Queen. After giving three cheers for the Queen, and singing the National Anthem, the people settled down to the days amusements. A merry-go-round was provided for the children, and a large number of prizes for competition. In the evening there was a fine display of fireworks, after
which a social gathering was held in the Mechanics Institute.” Victoria Park still hosts large local events such as the Royal Children’s Hospital good Friday Appeal and the Dachshund Derby, but 500 people on a Tuesday must have been everybody. A grandstand was erected in 1914 and a refreshment pavilion built by working bee in 1928. “Over the Line” refers to the railway line which cut through the southern Mercer Street blocks in 1913 and somewhat isolated Victoria Park. There was very little natural timber away from the rivers in Inverleigh and the trees at the park had been planted about the same time as the High St. trees. The sheep were used as to keep the grass short. The Inverleigh Historical Society is grateful for the kindness of the families who donate images to our collection (old and recent). We have about 2000 on file but unfortunately not all are as well named as this photo. Images for the 2022 calendar are currently being requested, so please ring Liz McDonald 52651270 if you have something suitable.

Inverleigh Progress Association Annual Report 2019/2021
This annual report covers two years, being from July 2019 through to June 2021. This is of course, as a direct result of the Covid Pandemic that hit our shores in 2020. Life as we knew it, drastically changed and we found ourselves in uncharted waters. No face to face contact at meetings for weeks, therefore no AGM meetings during 2020. Going back to July 2019: Having successfully achieved the construction of the East and West, stone Town Entrances, the town name lettering, was to be the final stage of the project. This was our main focus as we moved forward, into the second half of 2019. Decisions were made regarding what this lettering should look like. The lettering needed to be substantial and easy to read, the letters were to be cut individually from steel, then galvanised. But what size did they need to be? Peter Trevaskis spent many hours cutting three sets of different sized lettering, out of plywood, then positioning them, until deciding on the actual size letters for the
job. Peter then drilled the stones and attached the letters, thus enabling the completion of this huge project. Sincere thanks to Peter for his time and skills spent on the final stage of this project. The township of Inverleigh has entrances that we can be truly proud of. A rock has been placed at the River Play Space in readiness for a brass plaque to be added. The plaque will document the date and people involved in creating these stone entrance structures. The plaque will be placed onto the rock prior to the official opening (hopefully), July 2021. The IPA also published a new addition of the Inverleigh and District phone book in 2019, a project the takes place every 3 years. This addition, for the first time, contains no advertising; the printing of the 800 copies was funded entirely by the association. Continued Page 22

FOOD FOR THOUGHT How many chances do you think you have in this life to make it to heaven? A few years ago, I had a conversation with a yoga teacher from America. I asked him, if he would shed some light on achieving salvation according Buddhism, the religion he followed. He explained it in details the path to salvation, but I will provide you with a summary of what he said. According to him, one must do good karmas (works) to be reborn in a better form of life. Thus, you keep doing good karmas and keep progressing on a ladder and eventually you will cease to exist, because you have now become a part of God and thus have achieved salvation. As a courtesy, he asked me what I believed. I took the opportunity to explain how one can have salvation; 1-One must recognize that he/ she is a sinner and we are so addicted to sin that we cannot stop sinning. I also explained what sin is. Every action that goes against the will of God like, lying, stealing murdering, gossiping, idol worship, money worship, narcissistic ideology, fornication, adultery, and not just our actions but even if we entertain our minds with such things, we are sinning against the living God. 2-This sinful and ugly condition of ours, angers the just God. Every sin must be punished, and the Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. Thus, we legally deserve death. Not just a physical death but a spiritual death as well. Spiritual death is like dying most horribly, torturously, violently, mercilessly, most inhumane way and most painful way, over and over and over again. 3-But the living God of the Bible is not only perfectly just but He is also perfectly gracious and merciful. God’s word the Bible leads us to the ultimate solution to escape this most gruesome and painful spiritual death. 4-The living God of the Bible has already provided the solution to our wretched condition by sending His only Son Jesus Christ to take our punishment. Jesus took your death punish-
Article from Rev. Surendra Wesley Leigh Presbyterian Church. ment upon himself and Jesus died on the cross and Jesus rose from the dead on the third day, thus, conquering death forever. 5-One must believe in the Son of God the Christ Jesus that He has paid for my sins and accept Him as your Lord and Savior who saved you from the most horrific death. 6-Although, you will die physically one day and so will every person who is born, but with Jesus Christ you will be made alive to live with Him in eternity in heaven. 7-Jesus also has claimed that He is the way, the truth and the life. Meaning there is no other name by which you can be saved. One can only be saved in, by and through Jesus Christ. 8-A person has only this life to accept Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior. If one dies without Jesus, he/ she will never have a second chance – The word of the Living God the Bible says in Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, This gentleman listened very carefully and said why did Jesus make such very strong and divisive comments? I asked him what he thought about Jesus Christ? He said that Jesus was a good man and a very wise teacher. I asked him if he truly believed what he had just said, and he said he didn’t think about the subject in detail but that is what majority of the people say about Jesus Christ. I said to him that either Jesus is an absolute lunatic and a liar to make such claims or Jesus is absolutely telling the truth. More than a billion people from different walks of life including scientists, mathematicians, physicists, philosophers and archeologists have rigorously scrutinized the statements of Jesus and the Bible to come to a conclusion that Jesus Christ is 100% right in all His claims. In addition, I asked him, if he would be willing to clarify few
questions from our discussion! He graciously agreed. I asked him the following questions; 1-What form of life is better than the human life? Do humans not control every beast whether small or big? 2-What form of life in our world, surpasses human wisdom? Are not the humans, the wisest of all created beings on Earth? 3-What would be the wisest thing to do? Is it to follow Buddhism according to which you get multiple chances both in this life and the lives to come (because, if you do not follow Buddhism in this life and suppose Buddhism was the right path to follow, then, the worse that can happen to you is that you might be born in a lesser form of life, as oppose to going to hell (as Christianity teaches), but then, you can follow Buddhism to further climb up the ladder)? OR, should you follow Jesus Christ? Jesus claims that you have only one chance and only in this life. If you do not follow Jesus Christ and you die, then, you will end up in hell forever, and there is no coming back from hell ever. One gives you numerous chances both in this life and the lives to come after this life, so, if you mess up once, twice and thrice, it’s not the end. But Jesus does not give you those chances, in fact, Jesus gives you only one chance and you must get it right otherwise, you are lost forever. Let’s say you are given two pills one is red which represents Jesus and the other is blue which represents Buddhism. The question is, which pill would you take? I am sure you are smart; you can do the math and make the wise choice. However, if you get stuck, please contact me, I am no physician, but I can most certainly guide you to choose the right pill. surendrawesley@yahoo. com or 0428 489 222. Bless you, Surendra Wesley.

POLICE REPORT FOR JUNE 2021
Hello all, You will probably notice that the Police station is currently undergoing a transformation with a new paint scheme and new blinds currently being fitted to go with the new carpets that were installed a while ago. The Police station has been able to remain open during these works, luckily. A reminder if you see the Police vehicle out the front that means I am working and inside the station. If I am out on the road ringing the station phone number Ph 5265 1211 will divert to the mobile phone I am carrying. I can often return if needed and if I have no current tasks. If the phone goes to message bank that means I am not working and if you need Police you should call 000 and for non-urgent matters the Police assistance Line on 131444. I have received some complaints about vehicles not stopping at stop signs especially the on from Common Road onto the Hamilton Highway. I can see this intersection from where I often sit in the 60 km/h zone opposite the park so please stop at the sign before proceeding onto the Highway otherwise you could find yourself $330 worse off with 3 demerit points. I have also seen some drivers taking a risk and trying to make a quick turn into Common Road in front of oncoming vehicles including trucks. If there is any doubt or if the oncoming car has to slow or brake because of your turn then you shouldn’t have. You must give way to oncoming vehicles, if in doubt wait until the vehicles has passed. I am still finding some excessive speeders around the area, at 7 am one morning a few weeks back I detected a Probationary driver travelling West on the Hamilton Hwy WIV doing 92 km/h in the 60 km/h zone leading to the bridge in heavy fog while the school busses were getting about to collect the school children.
On the Friday of Queens Birthday weekend I got another Probationary driver also travelling West doing 96 km/h in the 60 zone, a local travelling East on the Hamilton Hwy at Burnside Road Murgheboluc 116 km/h in the 80 zone, a 4WD travelling West on the Cressy Shelford rd. Shelford 135/100 zone. On the Saturday a suspended driver with unregistered trailer speeding 96/80 zone at the rail crossing and then stated a false name to me not realising our tablets show licence photos. On the Sunday I then got a driver travelling east on the Hamilton Hwy to Inverleigh 133/100 zone in Hesse. I detected a total of 37 offences over the 3 days I worked and this is similar to what I have found on most long weekends over the six years I have been here. I have received a couple of complaints regarding parents picking up children from the Inverleigh Primary School double parking next to the bus and even parking in the no standing zone diagonally across the front of the bus. No standing signs are applicable and you can be fined by the council officers and Police. Please respect the zones around the school. I have also received complaints regarding the parking around the Teesdale Primary school so be aware that I will be patrolling both these areas. I popped into the Book fair at the Inverleigh hall on the Sunday and all looked to be running very smoothly. I was informed the event had very good numbers through the doors despite the travel and COVID restrictions. Well done to the Hall committee and all their volunteers. Keep safe Chris
14 Leigh News SHELFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL Hello again from Shelford Primary School. Looking back on the first half of this year, it is clear to see not only how much our students have achieved academically, but also the resilience they have shown in their ability to cope with change. Throughout this period the students have not only had to revert to remote learning twice, but they have also had to manage feelings of disappointment when curriculum plans had to change due to tougher restrictions across the state. This is something that the students of Shelford PS have been wonderful at doing, and it is a credit to them. The students have been given the opportunity to work with educators from Earth Ed, to complete a robotics
program. This program was to run for the last five weeks of the term, however only one session was completed before tighter restrictions came into play. Luckily, we have been able to receive the additional four sessions spread out throughout next term so the students can continue with this excellent program. They really enjoyed their first session using instructions to construct a lego vehicle and then programming it to move in given directions. It was excellent to see the way that the students worked together and supported each other to complete this task in multi aged pairs. During the afternoons, the students have been working in small groups to complete STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) projects. A recent activity saw them constructing a room in a house from materials that have been reused such as cardboard boxes and material scraps. The students learnt about using the computer to print out pictures for their room for such items as food to go in their fridge and paintings for the wall. They had to import the picture into a word document and to check that the scale of the picture was appropriate before it was able to be printed out.
There were wonderful items created including things with doors that opened (fridges and cupboards) and 3 dimensional creations such as a table and chairs. Wallpaper and carpet were also added for aesthetics. It looks like we might have some budding architects at Shelford Primary School. Remote learning gave our students the opportunity for families to work together to complete some home tasks. The students received a task each day that required them to work with members of their family (adults too, if possible). These tasks included constructing the biggest tower with paper, making a paper airplane, and cleaning up a designated room/area in the house. This was a great idea as it allowed the students to work alongside their parents and to receive feedback from them about their achievements. Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable school holiday break and looking forward to updating you on life at our wonderful school next month.

16 Leigh News New Buildings and Grounds Update Our Foundation Students have now moved into their new building and classrooms. These are bright and comfortable learning spaces which have been finished with concrete paths. We look forward to putting our thoughts towards landscaping outside our new building to provide additional play spaces for students to tie our new classrooms in with the rest of the school. This additional space has bumped our capacity to 250. However with growth set to continue over the coming years I would anticipate we will soon be nearing our capacity once again.
Another welcome addition soon to be arriving is our Covered Outdoor Learning Area. School Council have been working on providing this space over the last twelve months and it is soon to arrive on-site and be installed. The covered area will provide a sheltered space over our netball court providing an all-weather space for Physical Education, Assemblies and many other uses. We do not have a suitable dedicated indoor space we can congregate or provide PE in during hot or wet weather conditions. The installation of this space will commence over the holidays and likely be finished in the first week or so of term. This will cause slight disruption at recess and lunch times but be worth it for the immediate benefit we get of an all-weather space for students to use.
TEESDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL Junior School Swimming Program The Junior School Swimming Program will be held over 10 consecutive days during weeks 2-3 of term 3 at the Leisurelink Aquatic and Recreation Centre in Waurn Ponds. The Victorian Government has contributed funds to every primary school to ensure students can participate in swimming. With these funds and the School Council’s contributions, the cost to parents has been subsidised. Families may notice a significant reduction in the cost of the swimming program this year (usually cost is around $120.00). This is due to the school having the swimming grant funding from 2020 (the swimming program was cancelled because of the COVID-19 lockdown) as well as additional grant money from 2021.
Important Dates Monday 12th July – First day term 3 Monday 19th – Friday 30th July – Junior School Swimming Program If you would like to know more about our school, please phone us during school hours on 5281 5218 or head to our website at: www.teesdaleps.vic.edu.au or Facebook https:// www.facebook.com/TeesdalePrimarySchool

OVERHANGING TREES AND BUSHES ONTO FOOTPATHS AND PUBLIC SPACES. It was brought to my attention at the recent Inverleigh Progress Association Meeting that some members of the public have contacted local Council Members of the Golden Plains Shire regarding overhanging Trees, Shrubs and other vegetation. The Councillors have asked me to make property owners and occupiers aware that it is "their responsibilty" to keep vegetation trimmed to their fencelines. This is an important and timely consideration for the wellbeing of all the general public, particularly for the elderly. I was provided with some photographs to highlight this need and I have included a selection in this article for the benefit of understanding the issue. Please take the opportunity before the spring growth spurt to check your property and tend to any overhanging vegetation. Peter Trevaskis (Leigh News Editor and member of Inverleigh Progress Association)

Continued from Page 22
In early 2020 the IPA worked alongside the Inverleigh Hall Committee to help run the Inverleigh Community Australia Day Breakfast, held each year at the Inverleigh Hall. It is always nice to see a community event take place with a mix of all age groups attending. 2020 saw the completion of the wonderful new play space in Inverleigh. The IPA was happy to donate the sum of $5,000 to pay for a barrier post and rail fencing between the car park and play space. During this same year, the world wide Covid Pandemic hit our shore. This Pandemic brought with it many challenges. The first being: the inability to have social contact with others, outside our own household families, for substantial periods of time. The IPA, like many other organisations had to move to online Zoom meetings. Many thanks to member Nick O’Connell, for keeping us all connected via Zoom. Nick and Michelle O’Connell have also taken on administration of the Leigh News Facebook page. This, in turn has been a great help to Peter, who had been overseeing it, up until then. Also thanks to Deb Morrison, Deb has taken on the job of updating the Inverleigh Website. The website will become more up-to-date, interesting and informative. Stay tuned. Over the last two years, Tony Waayers has added to the Festive season, by placing Christmas trees (made by Tony), in locations along the main street of Inverleigh. They have put smiles on faces and added a little bit of something extra, at that special time of year. A project, envisaged by Tony as an IPA facility improvement, came to fruition during last year. The old Pump Shed, at the river’s edge, was pulled down and rebuilt, to house the two river pumps that supply water to stock and gardens in the area. Thanks also to the Leigh Valley Lions Club, for suppling the manpower to enable the painting of the newly finished little building. After being nominated by the IPA, Treasurer Tony Waayers received a certificate of recognition, from the Commonwealth Bank, acknowledging his volunteer work for our organisation. Many thanks for your work and community spirit, Tony. Throughout these two years, Damien Baker, once more, has kept the open space areas in check for the Community. Mowing and spraying and keeping an eye out for any other issues that need addressing. In recognition of Damien’s tireless work, the IPA was pleased to take the opportunity, to nominate Damien for the Golden Plains Shires, Citizen of the Year. We were thrilled when Damien was indeed named, Senior Citizen of the year for the Golden Plains Shire. A tittle well deserved. With the Covid shadow still hanging over our heads,
this year (2021), the Annual Australia Day breakfast was cancelled, disappointing for all. The Annual Good Friday appeal, held in Inverleigh, was scaled down, to meet Covid restrictions at the time. IPA was pleased to be able to donate $1,000 to the appeal this year. Having previously thanked Peter, for his work on the Town entrance, I would like to thank him again. Our community is very lucky to have a wonderful monthly newspaper, The Leigh News. This publication would not be possible if it were not for Peter’s commitment and dedication to the volunteer position of Editor. In recent times, the IPA has had new members join our ranks. They bring new enthusiasm and fresh ideas, something that the older IPA members are happy embrace. It became very apparent, during Covid lockdown, last year that the youth of Inverleigh were in desperate need to some facilities aimed at the 12 and above age group. With this in mind, Deb Morrison, assisted by Christine Windle, set about sending out a detailed survey to the youth of the Inverleigh. The results of which can be found on the Leigh News Facebook page. Thank you to both Deb and Christine for the time and effort they put into this survey. The results of which are very clear. The youth want local facilities, easy to access without traveling to another town. They are keen to share their ideas of what they would like to see in Inverleigh. This will become one of the focal points in the Inverleigh Community Plan, as we move forward with the plan this year. I would also like to sincerely thank our Secretary, Luanne Thornton. Luanne has held this position for many years and did in fact; express her intention to step down from the role in 2019. Unfortunately, having no one else to take her place, Luanne has continued in this role. Luanne’s dedication to the IPA is very much appreciated by all IPA members, especially myself. Previously, I made mention of the new shed, to house the river pumps. These pump are used a great deal over summer by local residents, they are maintained by Ross and Ewan Peel. There work goes unseen, but the whole community benefits because of their invaluable volunteer work, than you. I thank all IPA members for their support and welcome any interested community members, young included, to join our ranks as we work for the good of our town and wonderful community of Inverleigh. Has your Pet's Heartworm Prevention Lapsed
• Has your Pet's Heartworm Prevention Lapsed • Discounted Desexing for July • Grooming IN OTHER NEWS Free Heartworm Test
Heartworm is a parasitic worm that can infect your pet through a mosquito bite. An infected mosquito injects a larval stage of worm under your pet's skin. These larvae mature in the pet's organs, travelling through the body to the blood vessels of the lungs and the heart. Heartworm is a slow onset disease, so months or even years may pass before the outward signs become obvious. Early signs could be shortness of breath, a persistant dry cough, loss of energy or decreased appetitie.
We are offering FREE heartworm antigen tests. Please contact the clinic on 52811 -221 to book an appointment. Heartworm Prevention Products There are many effective heartworm products available to our clients. Below we have listed a range of products that we recommend .
Proheart SR12 is the only FDA approved product that protects against heartworm disease in dogs for one full year. This can be given at the same time as your pets yearly vaccination.
If you forget to give heartworm prevention for a few months, it's important not to simply dose you dog once you remember. This can be very dangerous. Basically, most forms of heartworm prevention medications kill the immature larvae, but don't have an effect on adult worms
Prevention is always better than cure.
Prevention of heartworm is easy and inexpensive. The treatment of a pet with heartworm is difficult, expensive and can result in some side effects. If your pet's heartworm prevention has lapsed, we are offering heartworm tests at NO COST to get you back on track with your pets heartworm prevention program. Contact the clinic to book your pet's heartworm antigen blood test.
Revolution is a monthly spot on that supplies vet grade protection against heartworm, fleas, sarcoptic mange, ear mites and round and hookworms. Simparica Trio is the first monthly chewable that protects dogs against heartworm, fleas, ticks, roundworms and hookworms. Discounted Desexing
Leigh News 31 Discounted Desexing for July Thousands of healthy cats and dogs are euthanased each year in shelters and pounds across Victoria. This is because not enough homes can be found for them- we have an over-supply of pets. Desexing is an effective strategy to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Many cats and dogs are bred by accident, because owners didn't get around to desexing their pets. If you own a pet and do not intend to breed from it - have it desexed. The majority of cats and dogs can be safely desexed from 3 months of age.
The pros of desexing:
For the month of July we will be offering 20% off all desexing procedures. Desexing is a day stay procedure. Contact the clinic on 52811-221 to book your pet in for surgery. If you have any questions we are here to help. Health Care Reminders We started sending your health care reminders via text or email
at the beginning of the Covid outbreak. We are hoping you are still finding this preferable to snail mail. To ensure you receive these important reminders please make sure your contact details are correct with the clinic. Thank you
Behavioural issues are less likely to occur, including roaming, aggression or dominance and marking territory (Urine spraying). In females the risk of mammary tumours is reduced. In males the risk of prostate and anal gland issues are significantly reduced. In females it decreases the chance of uterine infections (pyometra) Desexing Myths Quashed: Desexing does not cause weight gain. Desexing will not change your pet's personality. Females do not need to have a litter. If you have any questions or concerns about having your pet desexed please do not hesitate to contact the clinic. We will be happy to answer any of your questions.
Grooming We just wanted to update all our clients who use our grooming service. Phoebe, our groomer is now at the clinic one day a week due to her study commitments, but the good news is she is here all day on Friday. Phobe is a qualified groomer with a lot of experience in the industry.
