The Progress Association has been actively working towards improving the amenity of Inverleigh for over 40 years. Of course all such organisations need vol unteers and the Association is no exception. Without them nothing happens. If you have some ideas for the town you would like to achieve, you are welcome to join us and help achieve them.
Some of the projects completed by the Progress Association include:
The Federation Bridge which was built to commemorate the centenary of Federation in 2001.
Walking Tracks were established with lots of support from the community, including fencing and tree planting.
Public Toilets Progress Association members worked for many years with Council to have the old toilets removed and a new block built, which did not detract from the entrance to our town. They are used more than any other toilets in the Shire.
The Clock a new clock was recently installed on the clock tower in our main street, clearly visable from the General Store across the road.
Town Entrance Signs. IPA worked for many years to procure the 2 Entrance Signs (Hamilton Highway East and West) welcoming travellers to our town.
The Inverleigh Historical Society was formed in 2004. It operates under the auspices of the Inverleigh Mechanics Institute and Public Hall Committee.
Our Aims are to collect and preserve items of local historic interest and to promote research and interest in local history.

Peter’s Editorial
At last spring is here, although it is still very chilly at times.
I had my 2 smallest grandson stay for a sleepover during this last month and on the way back Home, mister 4 year old was pointing out all the Canola paddocks on the way into Geelong Look PaPa, there's Canola over there (RHS) and a bit further....look PaPa, there's Canola over there too....a bit further, and look PaPa, there's Canola Trees over there ?? (Wattle Trees) and a bit further....Look PaPa, there Canola along the side of the road too! You guessed it...... Sour Grass. And can you guess his favourite Colour? Of course it's Yellow.
A huge thank you to all who responded to the recent Inverleigh Community Plan (September Leigh News Page 3). Also for those who responded to Council about the proposed plan of the Youth extension to the Inverleigh Play Space. Every person who responds direct to the Shire regarding these and other Community projects, with their feedback adds considerable weight to the success of each cause.
As it is school holidays as I close off this edition, I do not have any newsletters from local schools. I wish all returning students a successful term coming up. Thanks too to the 2 local students who contributed to the recent Progress Association Logo competition (see opposite page). It was appreciated by all Progress Association member's that some of the younger generation took the time and effort to design and enter their Logo's. Till next month/PeterT

Logo Competition was recent completed, with IPA members voting anonomously for their preferred entry at a recent meeting..
The entry to the right was voted as the winner, from a wide variety contributions from within the district. Robyn Tennant from Inverleigh submitted the winning entry and receives a $100 gift voucher from The Inver leigh Progress Association.
The members of the IPA also consid ered 2 other entries from younger entrants, and have decided to also give them an en couragement award each of $25. Well Done to Kate Booley and Stephanie Reynolds. Both are still at school and their entries showed much thought had gone into their preparation. You should both feel very proud of your efforts.
A big thank you to all the other en trants for their time preparing their entries. It shows a great community spirit exists in Inverleigh.

With the football and netball sea sons drawing to a close, thoughts turn to lawn bowls. In fact, the Inverleigh bowl ers have been thinking lawn bowls for the past 5 months. Our series of off-sea son sessions (2-4-2 bowling competi tions) and a series of structured training sessions in the pre-season have allowed our bowlers to maintain their skills and be ready for the start of the pennant sea son in late September.

OCTOBER 2022 CalendarInverleigh bricks
Our early settlers were an enterprising group and soon industries to provide for the needs of a town were com menced.
Blacksmiths, wheel wrights, bakers, bootmakers, carpenters and stonemasons set up businesses to service the local landholders. Amongst these, often mentioned here in Inverleigh are Harry and David Savage and their brickworks. Quarried bluestone and pad dock stone were used for major buildings and foundations, but bricks were soon in demand in the building boom following the Gold Rush and immigra tion.
Inverleigh bricks either for the former Ebenezer Chapel at the Early Learning Centre in Dundas Street (1862), Lullote stables (1855) and many house chimneys of a later date, all lay claim to being built from Savage bricks. These lovely red clay bricks were smaller than the standard of today and, as can be seen on the image with the sundial, easily broken. Their size is 8” x 4” x 2½” compared to 230 (9) x 110 (4.5) x 76(3) standard, this being geared to a man’s hand. The local bricks are solid with no frog or any name imprint and the numbers required indicate an established industry.
In Gateway to the West (Inverleigh histo ry) the following is written about the Methodist Church “The first trustees were Messrs. Clarke, Faulkner, Cozens, Dawber, Harvey, Whalley and Savage. Mr. Swanston gave the land for the chapel and at a meeting on 11th February 1862 the com mittee discussed plans for the building. It was to be 18feet by 28 feet (5.5m x 8.5m), the walls to be 12 feet high and built of brick. Twenty thou sand bricks at twenty shillings per thousand were ordered from Harry Savage, and Edward Shugg contracted to build the chapel for 110 pounds if the Trustees provided cartage of the bricks. The building was to have a shingle roof. The chapel was opened between 18th November and 22nd Decem ber 1862. In 1876 a porch was added and the bell rehung.
Commonly mentioned in databases is that David & Harry Savage were early settlers and had the brick kiln on their property. The Federation Bridge over the Leigh River replaced an earlier river crossing called Savage’s Log. It is possible that the clay for the bricks came from the Savage property on the north bank of the river a large pit would have been left for the numbers required.
But, and there is always a “but” for a Historical Society when trying to find evidence versus hearsay. Trying to establish a family timeline through Ancestry leaves chronological differences, with Frederick (1815-97) and Sarah (1823-84) arriving at Gee long on the James T Foorde in May 1851 with Henry (Harry) an infant. It seems unlikely Har ry was taking orders for bricks as an eleven year old and his brother David yet to be born. Their father called himself a farmer and the boys list ed themselves as Gardener and Orchardist when filling out school enrolments. None of Freder ick’s brothers came to Australia, and there is no newspaper mention on Trove about bricks in Inverleigh. The name Savage is not an original landholder in Inverleigh at 1856.
So please readers, if anyone has some clarifying facts to add to this story please con tact the Inverleigh Historical Society on: inverleighhistsoc@gmail.com or 0403 267 286. Liz McDonald.

Golden Pens Write side up
G’Day from the penners for this month. I would like to say at the start of this article how much I, per sonally, was saddened by the passing of the Queen, and Uncle Jack Charles. Two exceptional people from differ ent walks of life who affected us all in different ways. I would like to say “Rest in Peace” to them both. But back to happier things, our group is going along very well, with lots of interesting writings being produced at our meetings and with our homework subjects. Many times, guffaws ring around the library from the merriment in our room. We are a happy group of folks who love to spend time together and share our quirky personalities.
You too can come and join us if you feel you would like to, just pop into the Bannockburn library at 1:30pm on Thursday the 6th October or any fortnight after that and we will welcome you.
This month’s poem comes from Brenda, our happy chirpy member. Brenda always sees the positive side of life and is a popular person who gives of her time generously.
Bicycle
Wheels and cogs, chains and sprogs, Handle bars and knees with scars, These are the things that bicycles bring. Trainer wheels and kids’ shrill squeals, Brakes to stop and helmets on mops, These are the things that bicycles bring. Fly down the hill, try not to spill, Pegs on the spokes, plenty of jokes, These are the things bicycles bring.
Thanks Brenda, for that lovely little ditty, I’m sure we all remember doing all these things when riding our bikes.
Until next month it’s cheerio from the penners.

POLICE REPORT FOR OCTOBER 2022
Hello all,
This year seems to be flying by, the foot ball/netball season has finished and cricket training has started in various towns around the area. Spring has definitely arrived, a lot of gardens are looking fantastic and it looks like there are some really good crops in the pad docks especially the canola which really stands out as I drive around the various roads.
With the improving weather I also find a lot of extra traffic on the roads especially around the weekends. Early August, I found I was still detecting some excessive speeding drivers including:
2/9 8.25 pm, East bound driver Hamil ton Hwy Inverleigh coming over Leigh River bridge 100 km/h in the 60 km/h zone,
3/9 2.05 pm, South Shelford-Mt Mercer Road Shelford Probationary driver 138/100 km/h zone.
6/9 8.05 pm, East Bannockburn-Shel ford Road Teesdale vicinity of Teesdale store Probationary driver 98/60 km/h zone
All received 6 month licence suspension infringements with $693 penalty.
With the better weather I have also been receiving some calls to campers on the River Track Inverleigh with loud music, leaving rub bish and doing burnouts/fishtails on the track and neighbouring Winchelsea Road.
I usually find that the campers causing trouble are the younger crowd often with P Plates on their vehicles and they often stay in small tents/swags. I haven’t had as much issue with caravaners.
Recently one group I came across the next morning after some complaints had rubbish scattered everywhere around their site which was next the Winchelsea Road bridge. I took their registrations and found they were from the Geelong area. I spoke to them regarding the reported behaviour and told them to clean up the area and to my surprise when I returned I found that they actually had!!
It seems word is getting around about the area being good for camping so I am expecting ever increasing numbers of people to frequent the area over the holi day periods.
When I first started here eight years ago it was not that well known but over the years it is increasing in popularity espe cially for people wanting free camping in close proximity to Geelong. If we continue to get issues and complaints about camp er’s behaviour maybe the community and council need to consider wether it is worth having it open for camping or wether it should be gated with just access for emer gency vehicles. The tracks would be left for walkers, cyclists, horse riders, fisher man etc. There is still the other camping area beside the Hamilton Hwy next to the Leigh River. It is not tucked away out of sight so behaviours are normally better there because people are in full view of the passing traffic.
Something that may have to be considered. Keep safe
Chris

18 Leigh News Spring in the Inverleigh Nature Conservation Reserve.
WATTLE INVASION
The Inverleigh Nature Conservation Reserve is under serious threat from a native shrub!
Acacia paradoxa has various common names, including Hedge Wattle, Prickly Moses, Prickly Wat tle and Kangaroo Thorn.
If you have been in the Inverleigh bush, you will have seen the dense thickets of this very prickly shrub, growing up to three or four metres in height. They are in most parts of the Reserve and spreading at an alarming rate, drastically changing its nature. This species is native to many parts of south ern and eastern Australia. It provides valuable shelter and protection to many small bird species. Research ers think that the variety of paradoxa originally native to our area was small and spindly and didn’t grow in dense thickets. It is thought that the variety now tak ing over in the Inverleigh Reserve was introduced to many parts of Victoria from Kangaroo Island. It was possibly planted as a hedge on the eastern side of the Reserve. Most of the spread has occurred since 1974 and it is likely that nearly all the paradoxa shrubs in the Inverleigh Reserve are less than fifty years old. The shrub is now regarded as a weed in many parts of Victoria.
Long term residents of Inverleigh remember when they could see for a long distance through the bush because it was an open grassy woodland.
The Inverleigh Nature Conservation Reserve Friends Group is making efforts to help control the spread of Acacia paradoxa. They are trying out a range of methods, including the extraction of smaller plants using weeding tools donated recently by Bunnings North Geelong. Some dense areas have been mulched by specialised machinery over the past fifteen years, the work usually funded by Parks Victoria, but this is extremely expensive.
We need your help! Do you have ideas for how Acacia paradoxa can be controlled? Please let us know. Would you like to help? Get on the Friends Group mailing list and you’ll be notified when working bees and other Friends Group activities are to be held. Send a message to: windle.keith@gmail.com or SMS 0429 651 298 Forthcoming Friends Group activities: Wildflower Walk: October 9th, Bird Walk: December 11th Free of charge. All Welcome (you don’t have to be a member).

Her Majesty
The Inverleigh Fire brigade was saddened to hear of the death of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 9th September. We flew our flag in front of the station at half mast for the period of mourning, as did all other CFA stations that have a flag pole. ( Some don’t)
The CFA is not a Royal organisation like Royal flying doctors but it is a government organisation that is answerable to the Queen and her local representative, the Governor of Victoria.
Both Her Majesty and the Governor have long standing links with the CFA in Victoria and have at tended many displays, presentations and service award ceremonies involving CFA members and equipment around the state. During the recent bushfires in Gipps land and New South Wales the Queen requested to be kept informed of the unfolding events and took a keen interest in what was happening and how it was affect ing people and communities. Apparently this interest in Australian bush fires was something that she liked to be kept informed of and she had a good under standing of the devastation that resulted from them.
Often after large fires medals are presented to mem bers who have contributed to the extinguishment of the fires, usually by the State Governor or even some times the Governor General. Recently there were 348 medals given to members who attended the 2019 -2020 East Gippsland fires.
Long service is often recognised with a CFA medal as well as CFA personnel often get Queens Birthday honours awards.
So while the Queen did not go out fighting any bush fires she certainly had an appreciation for the work the CFA does and respected the efforts of the volunteers and CFA personnel.
We look forward to continuing this relation ship with King Charles III.
Ewen Peel.

Working as a team
Having just experienced again the grand final of the Australia Rules Football, I find myself thinking about team work. In football there are particular roles the team members play, forwards, backs, followers, centres, ruck, and they have identified personal strengths for the team that other members may not be good at. However, they are all working together for a common purpose.
We don’t, perhaps, think about our relationships in all forms of community as teamwork. However, most couples know that being a team, with their personal strengths and weaknesses, is crucial. Teamwork in any kind of relationship starts with adjusting our mindset to be a support to each member of the community in whatever way it is expressed. Hopefully these tips can help you do just that.
1. Let each other in.
I think it is natural for us to choose a partner who has strengths to match our weaknesses – a level of incompatibil ity is a potential strength for any relationship. It is helpful to recognise and appreciate each other’s strengths and weakness es. Not to be critical about the weaknesses, but so that you can provide cover in those weaker areas. In order to get to this point, you need to be open and honest with each other and let go of your defensiveness so you can support each other in the best ways possible.
2. Share your expectations.
In great teams, each member knows exactly what is expected of them, what their role is, and what they’re trying to achieve. Sharing expectations with each other in your daily life serves a similar purpose. Voicing your expectations makes it possible for your partner to fulfil those expectations if they can. Whether it is a big meeting at work, projects you want to get done around the house, or striving to cook more often at home. If you understand what you are each aiming for, you can support and encourage each other better and empathize with each other if things don’t go how you expected.
3. Stop keeping score.
Sometimes we can fall into the trap of keeping score of the times we have had to do a task another person is responsible for, how often you were right about something, or how much time they have spent on their individual goal. However, when this happens the rela tionship shifts to a competition. Teamwork isn’t always about equal amounts. At these times ask why you feel the need to keep score, what is causing resentment. Maybe you need more quality time together or make some adjustments to divisions of responsibility.
Try to remember that you and your partner are on the same team. It is not always easy to do so; you don’t always feel like teammates. However, if you’re not aligned on what you’re hoping to achieve, it can seem like you’re actually working, fighting, against each other.

Inverleigh Stand Pipe & Water Pumps
Located in LAWSONS PARK, are the Inverleigh Stand Pipes and Water Pumps.
Provided by the Inverleigh Prog ress Association (IPA), these pumps are available for local residents to provide river water for farm stock and private gardens.
Over recent years, the stand pipe has been increased to 2 pipes and a second upgraded pump installed. Very recently, the Pump House itself has been rebuilt as well.
Of course, there is an ongoing maintenance cost and the IPA have set the pricing for use of these pumps at $44 per annum. For new users there is a once off Key deposit of $25. Accounts are issued annually by the IPA Treasurer. The current Treasurer, Tony Waayers, was instrumental in upgrading the Pump Shed, as well as invoicing patrons each year over the past years. Tony has now relocated to Geelong and we sincerely thank him for his work in providing this service to the Inverleigh Community.
Murray McMillan is taking over responsibilities for distribution of Keys and new residents can contact Murray on 0408 036 783 if they would like to take part in this service. Please call at 60 Napier Street, Inverleigh, after making phone contact with Murray. He will get new clients to complete a registration form with your contact details, including name, address, phone number and email ad dress. A key will be provided for your personal use only. Payment can be made by Cash ($69 total) or an invoice can be forwarded to your email address.

GOLDEN PLAINS SHIRE COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE
Date: Thursday 8 September, 2022
SENIORS FESTIVAL RETURNS TO THE SHIRE
Golden Plains Shire Council is encouraging its senior community to get out and ab out during the 2022 Victorian Seniors Festival with a range of events on offer for Golden Plains residents to enjoy throughout the month of October.
The Victorian Seniors Festival is a state wide festival for Victorians over 60 focusing on providing fun and good times. This year marks the return of in person events following COVID 19, as well as the 40 year anniversary of the festival.
Council has partnered with the Victorian Seniors Festival and local organisations and community groups to provide a calendar of events for local seniors, with free or low cost events and activities taking place across the Shire.
Council’s Positive Ageing team have developed a timetable of local events on offer across Golden Plains with opportunities for participants to get active with walking groups, soft tennis, or the Steady Feet over 60s exercise program; get out and about with trips to the Geelong Art Gallery as well as a Mystery Outing; and engage with other seniors in the Shire at weekly sewing and quilters groups or over delicious morning teas and lunches while enjoying music, games and other activities.
As part of the calendar of events, Council will be hosting two celebrations open to all seniors in the Shire:
• Tuesday 4 October from 11am to 1pm: International Day for Older Persons Celebration at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre, 25 27 High Street, Bannockburn
• Friday 7 October from 10am to 1 2.30pm: Ageism Awareness Day Celebration and EveryAGE Counts Campaign launch at the Lethbridge Cricket Club, 8 Stephenson St, Lethbridge
The International Day for Older Persons celebration will acknowledge the theme of the day; ‘Resilience of Women Over the Years’, by screening a short interview with Golden Plains women for guests including Councillor’s and residents. The Ageism Awareness Day will launch EveryAGE Counts, an advocacy campaign aimed at tackling ageism against older Australians, followed by an afternoon of games. Light lunch, tea and coffee will be provided at both events.
Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the return of the Victorian Seniors Festival to Golden Plains is an exciting step for the senior community following the COVID 19 pandemic.
“I am delighted to see the return of the Seniors Festival after what has been a particularly challenging few years for seniors in Golden Plains. There is a wide range of activities on offer across the Shire as part of the 2022 Victorian Seniors Festival, with events to suit a broad cross section of our senior community and offering ample opportunity for social interaction, skill development, activity and fun.
“Council is committed to ensuring our older res idents are able to age well and remain connected. I encourage all Golden Plains residents over 60 to get involved and make the most of the events on offer throughout October , and the range of programs and services to be provided by Council’s Active Ageing & Inclusion team in the future.”
Bookings are essential. Transport is available for Council facilitated events. To view the full calendar of events, visit: goldenplains.vic.gov.au. For further information contact Council’s Positive Ageing team on 5220 7111 or email ageingandinclusion@gplains.vic.gov.au

Taking Care of your Pets Health
We all lead busy lives, so it is easy for things to be missed. Including important things like your pets health checks, vaccinations and parasite control.
We have put together a few tips to help you stay organised and keep on track with everything you need to keep your pet healthy.
*Microchipping gives you the best chance of being reunited quickly with a lost pet. If a pet is found injured it enables the Vet to quickly identify the owner and contact them so the owner can make decisions on the animals treatment. Always keep your contact details up to date.
We would like to welcome our latest team member Alana. We love having her here at the clinic. Here is a little bit about her in her own words.
Hi, my name is Alana and I've just joined the team here at Bannockburn Vet Clinic.
A little bit about me. This year I completed my Veterinary Nursing IV certificate at the Gordon becoming a qualified vet nurse, my dream job since I was about 15!
*Vaccines exist to prevent your pet from becoming ill. They provide immunity from a range of infectious diseases. Keeping your pets vaccinations up to date is central to a healthy lifestyle. We will send you a reminder when your pets vaccination is due.
*Parasite infections in pets is a common problem seen by vets. Parasites are creatures that live in or on our pets. The most common pet parasites in Australia are fleas, intestinal worms, ticks and heartworm. Parasite protection can be a monthly topical application (Revolution) a yearly injection for heartworm (Proheart) or a monthly chew (Simparica or Simparica Trio). We offer a rewards program for these produtcs and will send reminders.
*Medications - If your pet is regularly taking medications missing a dose can have serious consequences depending on what your pet is being treated for. The best way to avoid running out of medication is to plan ahead and order repeats before you completely finish the medications you require.
*If you have a pet with a chronic health condition our Vets will explain what symptoms and danger signs to look for. Share this information with other members of the family and pet sitters.
*Dental disease is a common problem seen by our Vets. Few pets show obvious

signs of dental disease so it is up to us to uncover the hidden often painful problem. Approximately 85% of dogs and cats over four years of age have some form of dental disease.
To ensure your pets are healthy have at least an annual check up by our Vets. When you think of your pet's life span, an annual health check is equivalent to us seeing a doctor every 5 to 10 years.\
Why Do Dogs Eat Grass
The majority of dog owners have seen their pet eating grass at some point in time, which sometimes can be followed by vomiting.
Eating grass is quite common and considered normal dog behaviour. The fact that dogs eat grass to induce vomiting is a commonly held myth. Only a small proportion of grass eating results in vomiting.
So why do dogs eat grass?
I also have a Shetland pony I've had since I was 5 named Thunder he is now 18 years old and is the most sweetest loving pony ever!
I have worked in the Equine Industry while studying to become a vet nurse working in a Equine Vet Clinic and Training Facilities as well as owning my own horse.
I'm very grateful and excited to have joined the team here at Bannockburn looking forward to meeting you all and your furry friends. Alana.
Because they like it - some dogs eat grass because they like the texture and taste.
Because they are bored - Some dogs are more likely to eat grass when they are alone in the backyard as a form of entertainment.
Nutritional benefits - they may eat grass to make up for a nutritional deficiency, as grass is high in dietary fibre.
Caution -If your grass munching dog shows signs of stomach discomfort he or she may have a medical problem such as inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis or gastric reflux. Book an appointment with our Vets to rule out any medical conditions.

GOLDEN PLAINS SHIRE COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE
Date: Monday 19 September, 2022
FREE ADVOCACY TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEERS
Council is inviting volunteers in Golden Plains to attend one of two Advocacy Training sessions to increase their advocacy skills and create greater awareness of the role of individuals and community groups as advocates.
The workshops will be facilitated by Non Profit Training (NPT), in partnership with Geelong Volunteering, and are funded by a Community Strengthening Grant received by Geelong Volunteering in the second round of the program in 2021 under the Healthy Active Living stream.
The workshops will be delivered in person at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre, 25 27 High Street, Bannockburn on Tuesday 25 October from 12 to 3pm and online on Thursday 3 November from 6 to 8.30pm. Participants are only required to attend one of the two sessions.
As part of the workshops, volunteers will learn how advocacy can be a powerful tool and provide them with the foundations to effectively raise issues to a range of audiences to stimulate discussion and change.
The workshops will explore:
• The skills of an effective advocate
• The political and social framework within the community
• Developing an advocacy plan
• Identifying new and emerging issues for communities
• Effectively representing the community to maximise impact
• Understanding the importance of effective communication
Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the program was an opportunity for volunteers in Golden Plains to further grow and upskill in the area of advocacy.
“Volunteers and community groups wanting to effectively raise issues and drive change will greatly benefit from the free Advocacy Training sessions.
“These sessions are a fantastic example of the projects that Council’s Community Strengthening Grants can support , having been funded by a Community Strengthening Grant in 2021. Applications for the second round of the 2022 grant program are open until 2pm, Friday 30 September, and I strongly encourage community groups to apply. ”
The Advocacy Training for Volunteers workshops are open to all community members and participation is free. To register, visit: goldenplains.vic.gov.au/events.
To find out more information, contact Council’s Council Planning and Grants Officer at 5220 7111 or communitygrants@gplains.vic.gov.au

GOLDEN PLAINS SHIRE COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE
Date: Tuesday 20 September, 2022
REDUCED FEES FOR CAT OWNERS IN GOLDEN PLAINS
Cat owners in Golden Plains Shire with a dedicated cat enclosure can now apply to have their animal registration fee halved.
A new initiative outlined in the Golden Plains Shire Council Budget 2022/23, the reduced fee of $24.50, or $12.25 for applicable concession card holders, is available to residents with a cat enclosure separate to or attached to the home, where cats do not roam outside of the enclosure.
The reduced fee is applicable immediately for new registrations and will apply to current registrations when renewals are due in April 2023. This does not apply to owners of fertile cats.
Council, in partnership with the National Desexing Network , are also continuing to offer a subsidised desexing program to help prevent unwanted cats. Residents on pensions or low income or with too many cats to affo rd to desex will receive free desexing, microchipping and first year registration.
Golden Plains Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble says Council is pleased to be able to offer reduced fees for cat owners within the Shire.
“Council is committed to supporting responsible pet ownership in Golden Plains and incentives such as the subsidised cat desexing program and halved registration fee initiative for cat owners with cat enclosures make it more affordable to own a cat in the Shire.
“These programs not only assist those w ho may not have otherwise been able to afford these services but also assist the wider community by reducing feral cat nuisance issues and their impact on the Shire’s wildlife, while also lowering the costs for Council to collect, home and rehome unwanted litters ”
Application forms for the reduced cat registration fee program can be found online via Council’s website: goldenplains.vic.gov.au/cats.
For further information on the subsidised desexing program, residents can phone the National Desexing Network on 1300 368 99. If eligible, they will be issued a desexing voucher and can then contact the vet to make an appointment.
Golden Plains Animal Hospital, Smythesdale Animal Hospital and Bannockburn Veterinary Clinic a re all participating in this program for Golden Plains Shire residents.
