Dundee Astronomical Society Meetings
Take a tour of the night sky in the Observatory’s Planetarium Room and learn about constellations, asteroids and galaxies. Admission £1 adults, 50p children. Places are limited, so booking is essential on (01382) 435967. Activities are suitable for children aged 5yrs and over.
Dundee Astronomical Society and invited speakers present an informative programme of public talks. Weather permitting, members from the Society will also be on hand after each talk to help visitors view the night skies through the Observatory’s telescopes. Space Life! Wed 12 Nov 6 - 7.30pm Ever wondered what it’s like to be an astronaut? What do they do in space, what do they eat and drink - and where do astronauts sleep? Join the Mills Observatory Team on an interactive mission to find out more about the lives of these intrepid space travellers! Some creatures survive by hiding in the sand, whilst others can blend into the background or can disguise themselves. FREE event, but booking essential on (01382) 307200.Workshops are designed for family members to work together, so at least one adult per group is advised. Under 8s must be accompanied by an adult.
Christmas Light Night at The McManus Fri 14 Nov 5 - 9pm Explore the beautiful galleries and listen to musical entertainment from local choirs. Children and families can get creative with the Art Cart, visit The McManus Shop for quality gifts and unusual stocking fillers, or pop into the Café for mulled wine, and food on offer. The Café will also be serving refreshments to take away from the Museum’s terrace. Admission to the Museum is FREE, no need to book, just drop in! Last entry to galleries is at 8.45pm.
Our Foreign Skies: Schools & Community Group Week Mon 3 - Fri 7 Nov 10am - 5pm Explore the ‘science of seeing’… a new photographic display created by scientists from the University of Dundee’s College of Life Sciences. Winter Works on Paper Sat 22 Nov - Sun 25 Jan 2015 In commemoration of World War I, our annual Winter Works on Paper is drawn from the City’s collection of sketches, posters and prints by artist Frank Brangwyn (1867-1956).

Roman Empire: Power & People A British Museum Tour Sat 24 Jan - Sun 10 May 2015 The McManus is this touring exhibition’s only Scottish venue! This exhibition brings together over 160 stunning pieces from the British Museum, to explore the story of one of the most powerful empires the world has ever seen. Alongside the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity see objects from Dundee’s Roman collections, as well as objects from the National Museum of Scotland, and Perth & Kinross Museum Service. An exciting programme of activities and events accompanies the exhibition. The exhibition is supported through the generosity of the Dorset Foundation, and has been developed in partnership between Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives and the British Museum.

CU After Dark! Thur 30 Oct 6 - 8pm Join us for a special torchlit tour of the Collections Unit for Halloween, highlighting some of the strange and spooky objects in the Museum collections!
