Welcome to our Wheeled Goods Supplement, conveniently brought to you alongside the July issue of Nursery Today.

Wheeled goods for many retailers are a staple product and we are fortunate to have many fantastic nursery brands who cater to this sector.

Brands not only ensure new product launches each year to keep your shop floors and websites fresh, but they also ensure they stay on trend with modern parents wants and desires. Whether that be colourways, fabrics or chassis weight, fold and overall style – there is certainly something for everyone.

Among the pages of this issue, you will find a plethora of products across the various wheeled goods categories, all of which are available to order now.

You will also see that we caught up with independent retailers, 123ABC and Snuggle & Stroll to gain their thoughts on this category and what is currently working for them in store. As 123ABC’s owner, Andrew Hammond told us “Over the last five years prams have become the main part of our business and continues to grow along with pushchairs.” Also stating: “No doubt about it the wheeled sector is evolving as fast as any industry

and has kept pace with customer’s desires and especially the colour pallets that are now on offer, which always seem to be on trend with the fashion-conscious mums to be.” Independent retailer, Snuggle & Stroll who opened their doors last year informed us that wheeled goods were the prime reason behind them opening their doors, with co-owners Sophie Dembrey and Jess Munn informing us : “The main driver behind us opening our shop was for parents to be, to be able to get their hands on travel systems and give them a good test before buying them.”

You will also find within this issue an article from the team at JMDA, who take an overview of modern parents and their expectations when we consider all things ‘wheeled’. Simply turn to page 48 to read the article.

Lastly, you might have spotted BabyStyle adorning the cover of this issue. Having established itself as a trusted name in the world of baby strollers over the past 15 years, BabyStyle are known for their blend of style, functionality, and innovation and continue to be a favourite among parents looking for reliable and fashionable pushchairs which are great value for money. A true pearl with Oyster

The Oyster brand by BabyStyle, has established itself as a trusted name in the world of baby strollers over the past 15 years. Known for its blend of style, functionality, and innovation, it continues to be a favourite among parents looking for reliable and fashionable pushchairs which are great value for money. The brand’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction ensures that it remains a strong contender in the competitive baby product market.

Beginning with the Oyster Stroller in 2009, progressing through to the Oyster Max, Oyster2 and then the Oyster3 in 2019, each model built on the strengths of its predecessors. Incorporating feedback from parents and advancements in design and technology, the Oyster3 has been a frontrunner in the UK market and beyond for ve years. It is celebrated for its versatility and its ability to seamlessly integrate into the lives of modern parents. The Oyster3’s appeal has been further enhanced this year with the introduction of luxury fabrics, – including the Mink (front cover), an Independent Retailer Exclusive, which is simply stunning.

To diversify the range, BabyStyle launched the Oyster Zero in 2016. Designed to o er parents a lightweight stroller from birth that could convert into a travel system at a more a ordable price point, the Oyster Zero was further enhanced with the release of the Oyster Zero Gravity in 2021. This highly anticipated rework features an automatic, hands-free fold operated by foot—a feature beloved by both retailers and consumers.

Both models maintain the core qualities of the Oyster brand, a standard upheld by their newest model, the Oyster Gravity+. First presented at the most recent Nursery Fair in Harrogate, we are thrilled to announce that stock of the Oyster Gravity+ will be available in October of this year following the positive feedback it received from the trade. With its o cial pre-order launch set for late summer, the new Oyster Gravity+ will be available in four popular colourways—Mink, Stone, Black Olive,

” The Oyster3’s appeal has been further enhanced this year with the introduction of luxury fabrics, including the Mink (featured on the Front Cover), an Independent Retailer Exclusive, which is simply stunning.

and Carbonite. It can be purchased on its own at a fantastic price of £379 or as part of a travel system package for £599, which includes the stroller, carrycot, car seat, and adaptors.

Featured here in Stone, pictured at the factory (hot o the press!), the Oyster Gravity+ retains some much-loved features from previous models: the large canopy, automatic hands-free fold, and lay- at recline. Based on feedback from consumers and retailers, it will also feature a large parent and world-facing seat, which can be folded both ways hands-free. Additionally, the Oyster Gravity+ shares the same xtures as the Oyster3, eliminating the need for di erent adaptors for the carrycot and various car seats.

We know how excited the trade are to get their hands on the Oyster Gravity+we cannot wait to see more be released in the coming months.

Best wheel forward

With wheeled goods being an integral arm for many Nursery retailers, Penny Franks caught up with 123ABC’s owner, Andrew Hammond to find out his thoughts on this product category.

How important are wheeled goods to your business?

Over the last five years prams have become the main part of our business and continues to grow along with pushchairs, so yes, wheeled goods have now become very important for us.

Do you utilise social media to bring attention to your wheeled goods o ering – how important is this to the business?

Social Media is great tool for my sta that look after that area to promote new and existing wheeled goods and the information that brands now supply that is social media ‘ready’ is great with some fabulous images for us to use.

What about your website – do you o er the same products online as you do in-store, do you feel this has an impact on your business as this is a highly

researched category online?

We do o er the same products online as we do instore although online is only used as an information tool to drive customers into our stores and most times they have already researched products and brands from our website.

There have been many changes to the wheeled goods category over the years, do you feel that this sector has kept up with consumer trends and evolved to reflect your customer’s wants, needs and desires?

No doubt about it the wheeled sector is evolving as fast as any industry and has kept pace with customer’s desires and especially the colour pallets that are now on o er, which always seem to be on trend with the fashion conscious mums to be.

With so many brands o ering wheeled goods, do you feel this

is perhaps an oversaturated nursery category or that a variety is the solution to modern parents wants, needs and desires for their chosen set of wheels?

Yes there is a lot of brands out there but there does seem to be a good split between what the brands o er whether it be at a middle, upper or premium level which gives them all a point of di erence and it allows us to stock a great variety of brands covering the three di erent tears which in turn gives the customer a choice of brand and products to suit their budget, which is what the customer likes.

Have you spotted any trends within this category?

Most prams fold a lot easier now than the did years ago but the consumer still wants on most occasions to try it in their boot as car space is becoming

smaller with so many small cars now on the market the chassis size is important along with colour. Customers are so much more fashion conscious now with social media and influencers that colour is now so important and usually draws a customer to a product.

How do you monitor trends and new products within this product category?

Visiting Harrogate in October and Cologne in September along with great feedback from my sta as to what celebrities on social media are pushing along with a great band of brands constantly feeding us with trend information and new product updates. We are at information overload.

What do you feel has seen the highest level of innovation or change over the years within this product sector?

Ease of fold and compact are great moves forward especially with The fold on pushchairs which can fold as small as a ten pence piece and chassis’ folding with the seat unit allowing for compact ability to fit in small spaces.

How do you display wheeled goods within your store?

Having just opened our third store, Ayrshire Baby Centre in Irvine which is Around 6.000sq ft, it gave us a great opportunity to work with our brands to give them space, which in turn allowed them to design mostly bespoke stands and fixtures for the space, so most of our brands are displayed on their own fixturing which has given us fabulous results with the brands that have made the effort.

Are your customers looking at price compared to safety, comfort and style?

For us at the moment style leads price and comfort with safety not really a conversation for our customers, I assume they expect the safety aspect to be a given in everything they purchase.

Do travel systems perform well for you as a business? Or is there perhaps another wheeled category where you are experiencing an increased demand?

Travel systems are all the rage for us along with small fold pushchairs. On travel systems we have seen a rise in customers swapping out car seats and putting in different styles of car seats to suit their needs but it still has to be compatible with the chassis which still makes it a travel system.

How do ‘bundles’ perform for you within this category?

Most travel systems now come as

complete bundles, which makes up a large part of our offering.

We do also offer instore bundles including travel systems and different types of sleeping/furniture which we have done for 10 years and still perform well for us.

What are your customers main focus when you are talking to them when they are looking at purchasing their ‘first set of wheels’?

The customers first focus is for advice to understand what, for example, a travel system is and once they understand then they take off around the store brand hunting and being drawn by colour and after a few demonstrations they are very focused on what they need and want to purchase.

Is this a category where you feel a strong product demonstration in-store assists when talking to your customers about the various options available?

There is no doubt demonstrating wheeled goods is the total driving force for any bricks and mortar retailer and gives us a total edge over online with no touch products and this is the most important thing for us instore.

Are brand names important within this category?

With social media and influencers now a major part of everyone’s world brands can use this tool to reach a very wide audience and become more of a household name than may have previously possible. With this tool available to them brands for us are very important as when customers come in to store they always have a brand in mind from something they have seen or heard. How important is weight and

ease of fold when running through the various options with your customers?

Customers will always as us to demonstrate the fold for them as this is important and most the time they will lift the chassis to make sure they will be able to carry it when needed which is important.

Compact Folds now play a strong role within wheeled goods, how do these perform for you as a retailer?

Compact fold pushchairs although seasonal for us perform very nicely in the summer months but very difficult in the winter.

Do you feel your customers research online prior to coming to your store – are they armed with information on a specific product that they want?

Customers are definitely armed with more information before they come in to store, mainly with ideas about brands and possible colours they are looking at and although they do research on car seats, I feel this is the area they lean on us for advice more. Do you often get asked to ‘price match’ and how do you manage this within your business?

The dreaded price match question! We always aim to price match if there is a local store doing some activity and if it is an online retailer we will always take a look to see if it is possible, but it is always under the same terms and conditions regarding payment and delivery.

We are quite lucky as most of our brands we work with price points seem to be maintained to full RRP across the board.

Is this a good product category that enables you to ‘upsell’?

Helping customers when they are in store to navigate everything they may need is a great tool to increase the original purchase to add in sleeping/ furniture, bedding, feeding and additional car seats for relatives which is what we are good at and is our Upsell tool.

Finally, is there any advice you can offer your fellow independent retailers when we look at wheeled goods?

The UK has a great independent retail sector full of great characters with fabulous knowledge who could teach me a thing or two, so any words of advice would be lost on great people doing a top job for the independent trade.

Supplier Opinion

Pushing forward

We caught up with Joie’s Head of Product Development, Damon Marriott to find out how the brand monitors current trends, their focus on innovation and bring brand awareness to their wheeled good ranges.

What are the current trends in pram/ pushchair design, and how is your brand incorporating these trends into your products?

Whilst the one hand fold action for prams and pushchairs continues, and desires for compact strollers that are small enough to be “cabin approved” is there, we see the trends actually moving towards larger wheels that can cope with a multitude of di ering terrains, so watch this space for 2025.

Naturally this is a product sector that consumers will research online, how do you send out information to assist drive awareness of your range and support your retailers?

We consistently post to our social media platforms to keep the consumer informed as to the products we o er and updates to our range. We also work closely with our national and independent retailers by sending them a range of social content, digital banner adverts and assets so that they are able to incorporate these into their consumer outreach.    What feedback mechanisms do you have in place to gather consumer insights and how do these insights shape your product offerings?

We currently have a collect, display and distribute contract with a global review partner that allows us to keep a close eye on any consumer feedback we receive. We also work closely with our larger retailers who gather reviews on their own platforms, and we have a stringent system in place that allows our customer service team to respond as and when required.

As a brand, what are the most significant changes you’ve observed in consumer behaviour regarding pram/pushchair purchases in recent years?

We have certainly seen a rise in the popularity of travel system bundles as these seem to tick all the boxes for new parents who are looking for the complete package when buying their new pram. At Joie we are always looking to respond to the needs and desires of the consumer. With this in mind, we have crafted our bundles to incorporate our

best-selling, feature rich prams and infant car seats, bundling them together with our latest 360 rotating base for maximum impact, positioning Joie as a go to brand for expectant parents looking to make that all important purchase.

Do you feel that the wheeled goods sector has ample innovation that keeps in-line with consumer trends?

It’s a hard one to reinvent the wheel but with simple steps during the development process, innovation has led to many now sporting one hand folding and the clever use of soft goods to create extra storage. However, the real innovation will come with a price tag as electronic gadgets are added to this category.

Can you share any upcoming innovations or technological advancements that your brand is working on for future pram/ pushchair models?

We like to keep our real innovations close to our chest until the big reveal, usually launching at K&J then closely followed by the Harrogate trade show here in the UK. But, as mentioned previously, we can expect to see larger wheels featuring heavily on some of our new launches, combined with new fabrics that should satisfy our retail partners looking for newness.

How do consumer preferences influence your product development and design decisions?

Naturally this is a significant factor as we want to provide the consumer with products they will love. Many years ago, when we launched the pact stroller, we received a significant amount of positive feedback from consumers for our one-handed fold feature. Such was the enthusiasm for this feature, it led to us developing the same feature for our highly popular versatrax pushchair. Such was its popularity with our consumers, that this feature has almost become a standard requirement for our new launches.

In what ways are sustainability and ecofriendliness integrated into your pram/ pushchair manufacturing process?

As a brand, this is something that we are working to incorporate across our entire o ering in the future. At the moment, our cycle collection utilises recycled

plastic bottles in the soft goods. It is vitally important to us that our consumers can have faith in the safety of our products which is why we only use virgin materials in the main structure of our products.

Do you feel that modern parents are more eco-aware and actively seeking products that hold eco-credentials?

It is certainly something that is on people’s minds. However, quite often, innovation – and that includes eco friendly products – comes with a bigger price tag. We are still in the midst of a cost-of-living so the consumer is always going to look for good value. It is up to us as brands to be able to find the right balance.

How does your brand differentiate itself from competitors in what could be considered a crowded market?

We strive to ensure we meet every budget and style requirement through our wide and varied range, whilst also positioning ourselves as a voice of authority when it comes to car seat safety.   What type of support do you offer your retail partners to assist when demonstrating products in-store, POS material or online imagery and product information?

Our dedicated team of sales trainers are on the road constantly, visiting our retailers and ensuring that their sta are confident when demonstrating our products. We also o er training days to larger teams, supported by our product experts. This is all accompanied by the relevant POS materials, online support and product information. We are also able to directly support the consumers in the event of a product issue, through our customer service team who are exceptionally knowledgeable.

All in the details

We had the pleasure of catching up with Cosatto’s Creative Director, Vicky Morley, to gain her thoughts on the wheeled goods sector.

What feedback mechanisms do you have in place to gather consumer insights and how do these insights shape your product offerings?

We pride ourselves on our direct-to-consumer customer service and encourage retailers to tell their customers to come straight to us with any after-sales issues.

We are rated ‘excellent’ on Trustpilot where we have almost 12,000 reviews. This is a great source of customer feedback. We have a system which feeds straight back into our product development process.

We also enjoy meeting parents at the baby shows where we find the face-to-face interactions are a great way to get a feel for customers’ needs and consumer trends.

As a brand, what are the most significant changes you’ve observed in consumer behaviour regarding pram/pushchair purchases in recent years?

With the cost-of-living crisis being so all-encompassing, consumers are more cost conscious than ever and payment plans seem to be playing an increasingly important part of the process.

Longevity and quality are equally as important with more families opting to stick with the same pram for multiple babies.

In what ways are sustainability and eco-friendliness integrated into your pram/pushchair manufacturing process?

Wheeled Goods Supplier Opinion

Parents are definitely becoming more eco conscious and we acknowledged this when we embarked on a programme 3 years ago. Now 75% of our range is crafted from fabric made from recycled bottles.

How does your brand differentiate itself from competitors in what could be considered a crowded market?

Cosatto’s key di erentiator has always been our fabric design and detailing. We target stylish parents who are looking for something di erent, something that helps them express their personality and is better for their baby. Our designs are developed in line with guidelines and learnings we gained from working with the University of Sussex baby lab. This work has enabled us to ensure that our patterns and designs will be truly engaging for babies. When a baby is in a Cosatto product they stay engaged and are happy to be there. www.cosatto.com

Retail Interview

Wheelie good for business

Having opened their store in 2023, Penny Franks caught up with Snuggle & Stroll’s owners Sophie Dembrey and Jess Munn to find out their thoughts on the wheeled goods sector and how this category performs for them as a business

How important are wheeled goods to your business?

They are the foundation of our business. The main driver behind us opening our shop was for parents to be, to be able to get their hands on travel systems and give them a good test before buying them.

Do you utilise social media to bring attention to your wheeled goods o ering – how important is this to the business?

Yes, that is our main form of marketing so this is really important to our business. We find that our most engagement on social media are short videos with helpful tips AND did you knows!

What about your website – you don’t currently sell online, do you feel this has an impact on your business as this is a highly researched category online? No, we don’t feel that it has impacted

our business, we see the majority of our customers want to come into store rather than buy online. We also think that people like to support a local independent business. Whilst we aren’t ruling out selling online in the future for now we just want to be really good at what we do, which is o ering our customers a really personalised experience.

There have been many changes to the wheeled goods category over the years, do you feel that this sector has kept up with consumer trends and evolved to reflect your customer’s wants, needs and desires?

Having only been open for a year, we haven’t seen a huge change yet. However, we do feel that the changes we have seen over the year we have been open have really kept up with trends, especially in colourways. As mums to young

children ourselves, we really do see that the wheeled goods sector is keeping up with trends at a really fast pace.

With so many brands o ering wheeled goods, do you feel this is perhaps an oversaturated nursery category or that a variety is the solution to modern parents wants, needs and desires for their chosen set of wheels?

We think variety and having a choice is key for parents. Whether that is a variation in price, features or colours – we feel that customers like that they see a variety of products. We also get to know our customers’ needs and wants, therefore it is not overwhelming for them as we can help guide them to what would be best.

Have you spotted any trends within this category?

Definitely colourways! Beige, Beige, Beige!

How do you monitor trends and new products within this product category?

Social media is definitely our main source of keeping up with trends. We also read publications such as Nursery Today to see what’s trending and coming up!

How do you display wheeled goods within your store?

We mainly use stands from the brands to display them on.

Do you feel you receive adequate support from your suppliers with regards to POS, product training, etc.?

100%, especially as a smaller shop –our brand reps are always helping us find smaller POS and stands that would fit. With regards to training, absolutely. We are so well supported

by all of our brand reps.

Are your customers looking at price compared to safety, comfort and style?

We find that the majority of our customers do look at safety, style and ease over anything else. We offer personalised 0% payment plans, so that does help with making a travel system fit a budget as they can spread the cost and focus on what they really want.

Do travel systems perform well for you as a business? Or is there perhaps another wheeled category where you are experiencing an increased demand?

Travel systems are our best sellers. Of course there are also seasonal factors, so at the moment holiday compact strollers are doing really well too.

How do ‘bundles’ perform for you within this category?

Bundles are absolutely brilliant and definitely perform incredibly well for us. They just make it so much easier for customers.

What are your customers main focus when you are talking to them when they are looking at purchasing their ‘first set of wheels’?

Their lifestyle, how they will use the pram day to day. Will it fit in their car - we do a lot of boot checks! Ease of use, weight and then colour!

Is this a category where you feel a strong product demonstration in-store assists when talking to your customers about the various options available?

Absolutely. It is our customers main driver for coming to see us, they want to test the systems out, compare them and see how they fold and

unfold. They also want to receive quality advice and help!

Are brand names important within this category?

Sometimes but from our experience customers really do choose the one that fits their lifestyle best, regardless of brand.

How important is weight and ease of fold when running through the various options with your customers?

Super important and is often one of the main reasons they might choose one travel system over another

Compact Folds now play a strong role within wheeled goods, how do these perform for you as a retailer?

Compact strollers are increasingly more popular in store but our most popular items in store are definitely still full travel systems. We find customers tend to come back in for a compact when they are going on holiday or baby is that little bit older and they want some boot space back!

Are your customers starting to consider wheeled goods that have eco-credentials?

We haven’t seen an increase in this being a driver for our customer base yet but we can definitely see this being one of the main drivers they might pick one over the other in a few years.

Do you feel your customers research online prior to coming to your store – are they armed with information on a specific product that they want?

No not really, the majority of our customers come in and have really not looked anywhere else and therefore rely really heavily on our advice and expertise.

Do you often get asked to ‘price match’ and how do you manage this within your business?

On occasion but we wouldn’t say often. If a customer can provide the evidence from a like for like option, then we will always consider it. Is this a good product category that enables you to ‘upsell’?

Not particularly as most of the travel system bundles are really comprehensive and tend to come with everything a customer would need. Upselling isn’t our aim at all as it is more important that customers leave us with the right product for them, we do find however that the majority of our customers will upgrade their car seat.

Finally, is there any advice you can offer your fellow independent retailers when we look at wheeled goods?

Find out what your customers are looking for as to what brands you might want to stock. You don’t need to stock every brand out there as customers can find too much choice overwhelming. Become an expert in the brands you do stock, get to know the brand and goods inside out, keep your knowledge fresh and use your reps to help with this – their knowledge and tips are absolutely invaluable. Get to know your customer and find out what they are looking for from a travel system so that you can help them narrow it down as chances are, once you find out what their lifestyle is like, you will find their perfect travel system in a matter of minutes for them!

Finally, don’t be afraid to let your customers walk away and have a think, this is a big purchase for them – if you give them good advice, they will be back!

Wheeled Goods

Supplier Opinion

Wheeles in motion with Red Kite

We had the pleasure of catching up with Red Kite Baby’s Commercial Director, Debra Tucker to gain her thoughts on the wheeled goods sector.

What are the current trends in pram/ pushchair design?

There has been finally a definite growth in demand for compact strollers which seemed to be slightly slower to catch on in the UK compared to other markets, but these are firmly now widely available and very popular. Also, we are now seeing a move away from the staple grey colours which have dominated ranges for the past few years. Now there is a move towards earth based natural colour themes including lots of natural and soft green designs.

Naturally this is a product sector that consumers will research online, how do you send out information to assist drive awareness of your range and support your retailers?

Whilst we do have our own website, this is primarily to showcase the full range to both consumers and retailers. We fully support our retailers with updates on a regular basis to include availability and new product launches by sending out regular emails or old school phone calls!

What feedback mechanisms do you have in place to gather consumer insights and how do these insights shape your product offerings?

We make sure we engage as often as possible with our retail partners and always welcome feedback on both current products and potential gaps in our range. We value their experience of dealing face to face with consumers, so their feedback is vital to our decision making on new products. We also work with testers again whose first hand feedback is essential to our development on new models and current range.

As a brand, what are the most significant changes you’ve observed in consumer

behaviour regarding pram/pushchair purchases in recent years?

Randomly some of our ongoing successful lines are the more traditional umbrella fold stroller which obviously resonates in both value and simple convenience with so many parents! During tougher economic periods consumers always will be looking for both value but also needing a stroller that lasts across a few children.

Do you feel that the wheeled goods sector has ample innovation that keeps in-line with consumer trends?

Yes I do. There are strong brands leading with innovative new designs and concepts to ensure products appeal to the current generation of parents.

How do consumer preferences influence your product development and design decisions?

100% we have to ensure that our product range and development will appeal to consumers. This is why being aware and observing market trends and designs is vital to keep on top of as this can change and move very quickly.

In what ways are sustainability and ecofriendliness integrated into your pram/ pushchair manufacturing process? We recently introduced some lines which are featuring recycled plastic fabrics to support eco values and are promoting this concept in our marketing. So far, we have had an amazing response and will be looking to expand on this range in the future. We also want our products to last and to be able to be used for several children so a lot of work goes into ensuring both value and quality is part of all our product development. We recently had feedback from a very happy consumer that had used one of our highchairs across 5 children over 14 years and still looked brand new! That is pretty

amazing we think!

Do you feel that modern parents are more eco-aware and actively seeking products that hold eco-credentials?

Climate control and the environment are strong concerns for many modern parents these days and therefore any brand or product that support similar values will always stand out and have an added appeal.

How does your brand differentiate itself from competitors in what could be considered a crowded market?

Next year Red Kite will be celebrating our 20th birthday and we still work with many of our very first original retailers! Nursery has always been a competitive market with so many established and new brands each year. Red Kite has always had a friendly family focused ethos and worked hard to supply great value products that continue to be in demand with new generations of parents. What type of support do you offer your retail partners to assist when demonstrating products in-store, POS material or online imagery and product information?

We provide a library of online imagery with full selling production information to our retail partners. Our strollers include POS key features which help support display models in retail outlets. We also have strong packaging with many of our products in full colour display cartons that include lifestyle images and key features for those stores with limited space to display full products.

Design Meeting Desire

Modern Parents’ Expectations in Baby Strollers

Over JMDA’s 34 years’ history of designing baby products, we have been learning how the quest for the excellent baby stroller has evolved beyond mere functionality to embracing a blend of cutting-edge design, sustainability, and technological innovation. Today’s parents are not just looking for a means to transport their children; they seek a statement piece that re ects their lifestyle and values. This shift has in uenced the design landscape of strollers, aligning them more closely with contemporary fashion trends and lifestyle choice.

Design Evolution: Form Meets Function

While strollers have never been solely practical, modern parents prioritise aesthetics and image alongside functionality to match a variety of lifestyles. Manufacturers have responded by o ering a diverse range of designs that cater to various tastes from sleek urban models to rugged, o -road capable strollers. Lightweight materials such as aluminium

and carbon bre have become popular for their durability and how such materials aid ease of manoeuvrability, addressing concerns about weight and size without compromising on strength. Lately the ‘touchpoints’ of strollers have been under bigger scrutiny by designers, with the emphasis on how obvious such touchpoints are to a user and how easy they are to understand, reach and operate. A ‘touchpoint’ that doesn’t require the need for the users to read through pages of a manual, is a big win and can become a winning USP for the stroller.

Compacts and Magic-Folds:

Convenience and Ease-of-Use

Compact foldability has become a game-changer in the stroller market. Parents living in urban environments or those with limited storage space prioritise strollers that can fold e ortlessly and which occupy minimal space -whether on public transport or in a car boot. The introduction of ‘magic-folding’ mechanisms, which involve one-handed or automated folding mechanisms, has further simpli ed the user experience, allowing parents to manage the stroller with ease while holding their child or other items.

In many cases, especially when in a rush or having to deal with several children at the same time, a “press-the-button-to-fold” operation can greatly simplify the mechanical tasks that parents and grandparents have to go through with the product. JMDA have been supporting a growing number of customers regarding a re-work of the folding structure and mechanism, to make it more streamlined and ergonomic, with small and subtle changes that can greatly improve the nal result.

Tech Integration: A New Frontier Technology has found its way into baby strollers, transforming them into semi-smart devices. Features such as built-in automatic brakes, and AI camera connectivity for monitoring the baby’s well-being and stroller location are ltering their way into more products. These advancements not only enhance convenience, but also provide peace of mind to parents, knowing they can stay connected and informed at all times.

Eco-Conscious Materials: Sustainability Matters

With sustainability an issue of growing popularity and an important factor for marketing, parents are gravitating towards strollers made -at least in part- from eco-friendly or sustainable materials. Fabrics derived from recycled plastics, responsibly sourced wood accents, and non-toxic nishes are becoming standard o erings. Manufacturers are increasingly focusing on reducing their carbon footprint and ensuring their products are recyclable or biodegradable at the end of their lifecycle.

The design and subsequent manufacturing processes are key for ensuring a product is as environmentally-sustainable as possible from the rst pen-stroke by the designer to the

production mouldings and castings in the factory. JMDA’s ‘Magnesium’ stroller is designed very much with this philosophy in mind.

More Innovation on the Horizon

The stroller industry is a constant hub for continued innovation. Emerging trends indicate a push towards even lighter materials without compromising durability, advancements in modular designs that adapt to growing families’ needs, and further integration of smart features aimed at enhancing safety and functionality. As urbanisation continues and lifestyles evolve, strollers are likely to become even more specialised, with growing markets such as travel-enthusiasts or tness-oriented parents already being niches for which the designers and brands are already beginning to cater for.

Conclusion:

The evolution of strollers, mirrors broader societal shifts towards design-conscious, technologically integrated, and eco-friendly consumer products. Manufacturers are not only meeting, but exceeding, the expectations of modern parents by innovating across dimensions of design, functionality, and sustainability. As we look ahead, the future of strollers promises to be de ned by continued creativity and responsiveness to the diverse needs of contemporary -and future- families.
