Trend report :Photo fashion Something I have thought of many times but never went into depth with is an app that shows you where an item of clothing is from and how much it is by the picture or a simple description of it. I think it would be a great idea. There have been many times when I was out and about and I saw someone wearing something I thought looked great and then started to think about where I could get it, but with an app I wouldn’t need to think about it- the app would do that for me. There are already apps or search engines that can help you search for anything using a picture. However, in my research I have noticed that these services aren’t precise. I have found that these services don’t work with images of clothes, they can give completely different results to what you are looking for. The algorithm to find clothes on these services are quite bad. Finding objects can come in handy but that’s about all they are good for. I think that there will be competition between technological companies and clothing companies to see who would make the better app. There could also be brand new companies made to work exclusively on the app. However, this is all speculation and even if it were to come true it would most likely take many years to perfect and these are some reasons why….
Firstly, finding the right algorithm to source the clothes could be difficult as the makers of the app might have to ask the clothing brands for permission to show their clothes so there are no issues with copyright, this could take forever. Secondly, deciding what clothes to put on the app would be a problem. If they wanted to make life easier, they would need to pick the type of clothing they would show, whether it be basic high street shops or more expensive top range shops or both, it would depend on how much research and time they are willing to put into the app. Lastly, they need to decide how the app will work. Is it going to be only pictures of clothes? Will it allow descriptions? How many search results are going to come up and how precise are they going to be? All these questions and more will need to be answered to make sure the app runs smoothly otherwise there is no point in making it. I believe that the app could be a great way of finding clothes from all shops instead of one. It definitely has the potential to be great with the right people working on it and I personally would love to use it. As we advance our technological understanding there is no doubt that in the future this app could be a real thing and be accessible to everyone. It may not change the world but it could change the world of fashion.
