Spatial Encoder Tku 2019 Fall EA4 Project / Park Building Instructor : Hideki Hirahara Site : Shida Park / Taipei, Taiwan

In the city or our live space now, every space lost their order and dyscontrolled. But in the seemingly random arrangrment, there’s a hidden order. I want to notate this status and make people know how do I see this world. This world is very dynamic. Throught the encoder, we can encode these space and make people feel the different.

In computer, 1 means something. In my design, 1 means the intersection of people. I designed some public space in this architecture. There is a night market near this site, so people need a relax place. People can buy something eat and go to here, eating, chatting, relaxing.... Many interesting activies can happen here. About the model (1/200), you could find out a lot of details of this model. These details included people’s activies, plant, architecture. You could imagine when you walk into this model, Your feeling is comfortable and lightness. I want to create an environment when people walk from beginning to end that people could feel the process of encoding.

People can chat with others under the tree. Cross the entrance, enter the personal space. In the gallery, sense of scale will be changed by tall building.

I designed it for a semi-underground form, and there’s a floor on it. I want to make the plan look like initial imagine, People walk on here, they just see the points on it, people feel the different of upstairs and downstairs. Before encoding, people just walk, After encoding people can thought many interesting space experiences.

Through The Sequence

Tku 2019 Winter EA4 Project / City Gallery Instructor : Hideki Hirahara Site : Tamsui Old Street / Tamsui, Taiwan

I want to describe a ‘status’. There are three layers in the notation, they mean three different sequence. People live in different sequence, and they have different experiences. I imagine different space as different scenes. People thought the sequence can experience the change of feeling.

About the site, I choose Tamsui old street, this place included a lot of different functional place. Park, temple, road... I think here is an interesting site and combined my concept. I want to link these six points and create a special sequence that belongs here. Park Temple Road Square Sidewalk River

10

/ Process / Temple / River / Feeling / Connection

Sequence, it could be continuous or similar. In inital image, it looks like a long corridor, and extend to somewhere. Throught those pillars, it’s not point to point. It’s a continuous corridor and it is also a sequence, too.

In a way, this imagine looks like a whole space. There is a space about indoor and outdoor and people can throught the sequence from everywhere. Althought it’s a sequence, but it doesn’t have a clear edge. I want to describle an environment where people can shuttle around this place.

SPACE In people’s life or our life, sequence can be two parts. One is space, in the same situation , people throught different spatial sequence. For example: sequence of home, sequence of work, sequence of leisure... Another part is schedule, in a whole day, people’s activies become a sequence, too. Different people throught different sequence of activies.

Tamsui Fu-yo temple is next to Tamsui river, I want to link both of them together. So I use the square in front of the temple to make this design. I use some long mass and outdoor corridor to respond this site and connect them together.

C. Road elevated

D.

Slope

About how to connect the temple, because there’s a slope behind the temple so I designed two stairs to make people get into the architecture. Crossing the road, people can feel the feel of shuttling sequence and arrive the riverbank from temple. Throught the outdoor corridor, people can shuttle between indoor and outdoor, and there’s is a long corridor from Fu-Yo temple to Tamsui river, Expect lead people walk, it also can guide people's sight to the river view.

I can see something inside.

I watch the view on the slit.

It looks interesting in this slit~

I can go to the other side throught the slit.

Maybe there’s something interesting up there...

I’m playing the music now. Does anyone hear me?

Living In Slit

Tku 2019 Winter EA4 Project / Underground Community Instructor : Hideki Hirahara Site : Taipei City / Taipei, Taiwan

Slit is a small thing between two objects, it can make people see the thing behind the surface. In this notation, there are a lot of different slits. Every slits have different functions. People can hear the sound, see other people... It’s a complicated system and interesting space. Taipei

Slit can play a lot of characters. For example: sound shuttle sight... And throughout the design, I hope these different features can be done to support people’s important functions of life. Slit is like a window scape, the images which people seeing are different. Sometimes different images are the same thing. Through the slits, we can only see what is presented on the surface. But there's a wider world behind it. We can't judge things only through what we see, but to think about it in many ways.

Slit has many scales, from large to small scale, which deeply affect people's lives.

17

Light can enter the interior of the building through slits, while also creating many different space atmospheres.

Beitou Social Housing

Tku 2019 Spring EA3 Project / Living House Instructor : Jui - mao, Huang Site : Heart Village, Beitou / Taipei, Taiwan

With the advancement of medicine, the life cycle is getting longer and longer, and with the increase of the elderly population, issues related to the elderly need to emerge. The physical, spiritual and social issues facing the elderly. Under this social background, in recent years, the Taiwan government and society have begun to pay attention to the research and planning of social housing. In the design concept, it began to emphasize a variety of social housing types, and then gave up the old people, the unemployed, low-income households, and even urban original Residents and other single ethnic groups are planning models, and hope to meet the needs of different ethnic groups through mixed residence. In this design, I want to use the traditional way - “Street House” to be my concept, through analysize the construction of street house’s space. Final, I redesign the new generation of street house and I hope people live here all can be very comfortable and relaxtion.

About the site, there are lots of areas near this site, like school, hospital, house... Through analysized this area, I want to make my design be a complexity house. When people come to here, they don’t need to leave this building, all the functions can be done in this building. It would be nice of this site.

Tamsui Local Art Museum

Tku 2019 Summer EA3 Project / City Museum Instructor : An - Rwei, Lee Site : Tamsui Elementary School / Taipei, Taiwan

This design takes the Tamsui Local Art Museum as the design theme to carry out the spiritual design training of buildings. In addition to religious buildings, artworks often show the artist’s spirituality, which is far better than the technicality of art, so the museum’s architecture Design is also combined with the spirituality of art. A good art museum provides a spiritual connection between architecture, people, and artistic creation. It interferes with the communication between people and art. As a design base, Tamsui Elementary School has its special role and purpose. At present, the trend of primary schools being reduced due to declining birthrates, Tamsui Elementary School has the opportunity to release part of the space for public use in the streets and communities because of the decrease in the number of students enrolled. Therefore, this design is based on the space released by Tamsui Elementary School and serves as the design training for the Tamsui Local Art Museum.

Impression of Tamsui

28

In my imagine, museum is a flat space. When we see a exhibition, we always active in a 2D plan. So I want to combine Tamsui’s topography, make a exhibition space like a hillside. When we watch the exhibition, we climb up without feeling.

In addition to combining the topography and space, I use glass facade in my public space - Hall. The whole space is bright which is essential for public spaces, so I especially design for tfis effect. Beacause this site has a height difference about 3m, I plane some trees behinds the hall and make the view look more comfortable.

Square is a method to make people get together. I design two squares, one is for the elementary school, the other is for the community around this site.

Tsuboniwa Bamboo Pavilion Tku 2017 Summer EA1 Project / Bamboo Pavilion Instructor : Ching -Yin, Wang Site : Tamsui Port / Tamsui, Taiwan

In this design, we need to make a 1:1 pavilion by bamboo. This design is team work, not a personal work. So very different thing I think is how to cooperation with my team members. And it would be a challenge. Finally we made it ! the process was very hard to make it and the pavilion looked very nice. This design was very impressive of EA1.

Between the EA1 and EA2, we have free time about 2 months. So I participated a workshop in Fujian. This workshop is team work, too. We builded a relax space for Fujian University. This pavilion was made by wood, so we needed to learn how to use professional machine to processing woods. Work with other country’s people was a great memory, hope there will be more opportunities in the future.
