Touring around the world, RnB’s ‘Newest lady’ is on her way to legendary status. The beautiful Ny took a break from her busy tour schedule to chat about her new single, the British Council and the future of her music. How would you describe yourself? I’m a singer/songwriter from North West London. I enjoy entertaining my fans with good music-things you can relate to and dance to. You were home schooled until you were 10 and weren’t allowed to watch TV. Did this help your musical identity? Not being able to watch TV made sure that my imagination was constantly working… It allowed me to explore what I wanted to say, with different melodies and stuff like that. Why did you name your

mixtapes ‘Split Endz’ Vol 1. and 2? I grew up half in North and South London, because my parents were separated. Also thier are two main bits of my personality: on one side I love being in the City, and then the other side, I love nature. And also having a mixed heritage offers me best of both worlds. Tell us a little about the project you received in 2008 from the British Council, representing UK music at The Roundhouse alongside well known African artists. That was one of my favourite experiences. We were asked to come up with an hours performance. We wrote pieces talking about social issues, like poverty, the differences

between the UK and Africa. It was amazing to go and perform in places where people might not necessarily understand all of your words but the power of performance transcended language.

With past productions such as Over the Edge, A night with Da Brattz and Pied Piper, critically acclaimed dance troupe Boy Blue are set to light up the stage at Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Lastly where do you see or hope to yourself career wise in 5 years time? Well you know, I always get asked this question and I have to say ‘Legendary Status’.

This is a rare opportunity to see the boys raw, unplugged and close enough to Touch.

Unsigned And Happening BLACK BISCUIT “Everything is down to us being determined and working hard. It gets hard sometimes but if you want it you have to work for it,” With that motto, it’s no wonder Black Biscuit’s success has transcended the underground music community and plopped on the doorsteps of mainstream. Raks and Littlen’s have become a viral sensation, by producing videos with their life savings and the generous help of Two Fish Films.Thier video ‘Anonymou’ was nominated for--and won--the St. Helier Cider Online Music Awards …at this rate they won’t remain ‘Anonymous’ much longer. www.blackbiscuit.co.uk

RYE Z Her vocals have been described as “velvet” (Guardian), and her sound has edge of rock with a whole lot of soul. Singer/songwriter Rye Z has been performing since she can remember. A self-proclaimed modern day gypsy, Rye Z is rumored to have performed more shows than the King of Rock himself! Her strong stage presence and no-nonsense style make for a performance well worth watching. www.ryez.co.uk

SNAKEY MAN Snakey Man, aka Arnold Oceng, is an actor and artist from South London. Only 19, he has already won an UMA as well as the ‘Unsigned Act’ and ‘Best Newcomer Act” awards. His lyrics are positive, portraying a go-getting chap with a bright future, and offers a refreshing break from less wholesome rap music. As his music and acting careers thrive, Snakey Man hopes to be a role model for young children in the UK. www.myspace.com/snakeymansofficialfanpage

Artistic Directors Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy and Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante lay on an intimate evening of beats and moves in a studio performance.

Sandy ‘s choreographic work includes Plan B’s video Prayin’, performances for George Michael, Fergie, The Sugababes, Duffy and Leona Lewis. Asante’s music credits include Kano’s gold selling Home Sweet Home, London Town, 140 Grime Street, and the remix of Tindo by Baaba Maal, as used by BBC’s World Cup coverage 2010. Kenrick and Michael created Pied Piper, and both collaborated on Street Dance the Movie 3D.

The Last Poets

Legendary pioneers of rap. A word hasn’t been coined to fit what we’re talking about! The Last Poets told Rolling Stone Magazine in 1970. Today, more than 35 years later, The Last Poets are rightfully hailed as the Godfathers of The Worldwide Hip-Hop Nation. Activist lyricists born of the US civil rights uprisings of the 1960s, The Last Poets have rightfully earnt their reputation; the hard way. The Last Poets have enjoyed a huge grass-roots resurgence in popularity since the early 1990s, leading to a cameo-role in John Singleton’s film ‘Poetic Justice’ alongside Janet Jackson & Tupac Shakur. More recently, several contemporary artistes including Kanye West, Common, Chuck D. (Public Enemy), Jill Scott and Erykah Badu have come to pay their dues, uniting to record a beautiful tribute album to The Last Poets ‘When We Come Together’. After nearly 40 years in action, the old boys of The Last Poets are still competing on equal ground with contemporary * Competition conditions apply see website
