SMALL MEDIUM HOUSES 5 The house is one of the few building types that promote genuine architectural innovation. Experimental construction systems, material assemblies, or spatial arrangements can be tested and evaluated at small scales before they are then applied to larger structures. The design of a house involves the careful coordination of the architect’s aesthetic sensibilities with the client’s unique personal preferences. Just as no two people are the same, no two houses are the same.

Location: Phra Kanong, Bangkok Client: G’RIS 46 Structural Engineer: B.N.G. Engineering Area: 2,400 sq.m. Year: 2016
Naiipa (means ‘Deep in the Forest’) is a mixed-use project consisted of an Art Gallery, Sound Recording Studio, Dance Studio, Restaurants, Coffee Shops, and Office Spaces. It is located on a small street next to Sukhumvit Road. The project is named after the concept of concealing the architecture in the forest as the vision of greenery is expanded by using reflective glass facade. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted with a group of large pre-existing trees in the heart of the project. From the very beginning, the goal of Naiipa has been to create architecture that seamlessly co-exist with the trees, providing a peaceful and inspiring art community for both its occupants and visitors. To fulfill the 2,000-square-meter office and retail programmatic requirement of the project, these dual functions are divided into two main masses which bounds the site, leaving the main tree courtyard as a free open space. Building A is an elongated 2-story horizontal building, allowing sunlight to reach the existing Pink Trumpet Tree, preserving its growth while creating an atmospheric courtyard for the building’s occupant. In contrast, Building B is a vertically orientated 4-story building. The two main masses of 4-story buildings are connected by multilevel sculptural terraces that intertwine itself between the existing trees, leaving all the trees untouched. The structural design for the project was also executed in respect to the existing trees. The two main buildings are constructed with a typical concrete structure, meanwhile, in the central courtyard where the trees mostly congregate, steel structures were introduced. As the buildings were designed to be in a proximity to nature, the use of mortar could damage the existing trees during construction, steel structures allow the architecture to become nimble; reducing the risk of harming the greeneries. Three different types of glazing: reflective, translucent, and transparent, along with the rhythmic folding pattern of the façade, are utilized to link the architecture to the surrounding urban context conditions, allowing the architecture into become one with nature. The east façade that faces the street is a translucent double façade which helps to filter and reduce heat flowing into the building; while the smooth translucent façade towards the entrance begins to fold to alludes to the forest within. Its rhythm mimics the dancing shadows casted by sunlight as it filters through the tree canopies. The center ‘Bird Nest’ Gallery were cladded in reflective glass that seems to disappear among the trees. It is this effect of being surrounded by trees that which evokes the feeling of being Naiipa.
01
The landscape is predominantly made up of internal roads and parking spaces thus the roads were designed to meander around the trees, creating organic forms through the architecture. Exterior walkways utilize pre-fabricated structural slabs that were placed on ground to minimizes any damages to the roots of pre-existing trees. As the owners of the project are tree advocates, the landscape design for the project marks a true collaborative effort between the designer and the owner, resulting in a completely cohesive project.

This project is placed right next to the previous phase of the school. Each building has its own unique characteristic, like no other. The auditorium, the first building to be seen upon the main arrival, is proposed to be a new milestone of the school, catching all eyes from the outside. The design intended to be a gateway that merge together the old and new phase of the school. The long side of the auditorium is enclosed with aluminum composite faรงade which folded into curvy shape creating a pleasant atmosphere to the whole area. On the other hand, the front and the back side is made of various local concrete bricks pattern producing a new aspect of bricklaying. Not just the exterior, the local bricks were finely place again inside the auditorium walls, generating a mellow atmosphere inside the hall.
On the left of the secondary building is the 25 meters long swimming pool and the sport complex. The sport complex consists of three basketball courts, one on first floor and the other on the upper floor. The saw-tooth faรงade is the main featured of the building. Not just its stylish look, the additional benefit of this faรงade is gaining indirect light into the gym. On the right of the secondary building lies the two dormitory buildings, one for male and the other for female. With the superior terrace beside each room that connects directly with the open well inside, wind is able to flow through the building which created good natural ventilation for residence. The transparent skylight in the center court brings in the natural light into the common space and corridor inside. The canteen on first floor flows through the two building, linking the two with food and activities.

The new campus provides unique design for each individual building which suit well to each particular function. Common space throughout the whole campus is the core idea to create a better living for students. The space between each building is designed and well treated to be use as a recreational area and effectively connect each building with activities
Plan Architect Co.,Ltd
For the secondary building, the grandstand, gigantic steps in front of the building, is designed to be a space for students to hang out and implement activities. It also creates a smooth transition between classrooms and outdoor field. Looking from the outside, the main stairs stand tall right in the middle of the building. Performing as the main circulation that brought life to architecture, it circulates students and teachers from the bottom up to the top.
Singapore International School of Bangkok
After the accomplishment of the first phase, Singapore International School of Bangkok requires an expansion for their secondary students. The initial requirement from the school was the auditorium building, including 400-seats multi-purpose hall along with a home for creative art center. Following with the secondary building that serves up to 750 students, two dormitory buildings for students, sport complex, 8-lanes swimming pool, and a football field that sit in the middle surrounded with all facilities.

It also need to be an attractive shape so that it can draw the attention from kids. As a result the freeform masses come to answer all of these requirements with the curve walls that define the room create an unmeasured space where the unexpected activities always happen. The clear glass curve walls acting like thin layers that separate softly between learning space inside and playing space outside in order to get the kids closely to the nature environment.
Kensington
This project is mainly intend to find the new perception of playing space that should give more opportunity for the kids to use the space up to their imagination.
About the massing this building simply made by superimpose the two freeform masses and then twist them to create overlapping part which cantilever above, that make the big shade approach any kids to the main entrance.
