Once this area of Chonburi Province was used to greet American troops in the late 1960s during The Vietnam War. As the ‘R and R’ (rest and recreation) station for American GIs, this sleepy village slowly developed into the city it is today. Although its promiscuous reputation remains intact, Pattaya continues to develop in hopes of changing this disreputable tag with family-friendly amenities such as mega malls, sporting excursions and cultural attractions.
and tourism. This area is home to countless bars, restaurants, entertainment venues and shops that almost overpopulate the streets. The bustling and crowded nature of this area tends to welcome younger travellers in search of a fun-filled vacation. Similarly, South Pattaya (Pattaya Tai) also has areas that cater to tourists; The Walking Street and the main gateway to the sea, Bali Hai Pier, is located in this district. However, there are also office areas and growing short-term property developments that have gained attraction from families and young investors who prefer a slightly more peaceful setting than in the city centre. Lastly, Buddha Hill (Pratumnak)district is known for its offering of spectacular views of Pattaya beach and city centre. This secluded area is popular among the wealthier locals as it combines centrality of location and panoramic views, with a peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for a weekend getaway. Although Jomtien is technically not a part of Pattaya, its beautiful beaches and vibrant nature is also well-known amongst Pattaya frequenters.
Divided into sub-districts, each area of Pattaya flourishes in its own offerings. North Pattaya (Pattaya Nua) and Naklua areas have a concentration of well-developed properties by quiet beachfronts, suitable for families and those who appreciate a quieter, leisurely lifestyle. In contrast, Central Pattaya (Pattaya Klang) is the epicentre of nightlife
With such diversity offered within one setting, Pattaya Horizon strives to showcase the city’s collection of attractions through panoramic photographs taken from selected angles across the area. The movement from day to night throughout the book allows for a 24-hour insider’s experience of Pattaya’s true essence as a seaside destination filled with life.
