Once this area of Chonburi Province was used to greet American troops in the late 1960s during The Vietnam War. As the ‘R and R’ (rest and recreation) station for American GIs, this sleepy village slowly developed into the city it is today. Although its promiscuous reputation remains intact, Pattaya continues to develop in hopes of changing this disreputable tag with family-friendly amenities such as mega malls, sporting excursions and cultural attractions.

and tourism. This area is home to countless bars, restaurants, entertainment venues and shops that almost overpopulate the streets. The bustling and crowded nature of this area tends to welcome younger travellers in search of a fun-filled vacation. Similarly, South Pattaya (Pattaya Tai) also has areas that cater to tourists; The Walking Street and the main gateway to the sea, Bali Hai Pier, is located in this district. However, there are also office areas and growing short-term property developments that have gained attraction from families and young investors who prefer a slightly more peaceful setting than in the city centre. Lastly, Buddha Hill (Pratumnak)district is known for its offering of spectacular views of Pattaya beach and city centre. This secluded area is popular among the wealthier locals as it combines centrality of location and panoramic views, with a peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for a weekend getaway. Although Jomtien is technically not a part of Pattaya, its beautiful beaches and vibrant nature is also well-known amongst Pattaya frequenters.

Divided into sub-districts, each area of Pattaya flourishes in its own offerings. North Pattaya (Pattaya Nua) and Naklua areas have a concentration of well-developed properties by quiet beachfronts, suitable for families and those who appreciate a quieter, leisurely lifestyle. In contrast, Central Pattaya (Pattaya Klang) is the epicentre of nightlife

With such diversity offered within one setting, Pattaya Horizon strives to showcase the city’s collection of attractions through panoramic photographs taken from selected angles across the area. The movement from day to night throughout the book allows for a 24-hour insider’s experience of Pattaya’s true essence as a seaside destination filled with life.

Located on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya is a popular seaside destination that attracts both local and international travellers for an all-inclusive getaway. Easily accessible from the capital, this energetic metropolis offers a variety of attractions that could satisfy every need. From yacht trips for fishing and snorkelling, to international cuisine and wild nightlife, this once quiet fishing village is now buzzing with a constant flow of over 9 million a year tourists.

All sorts of travellers stream in from all over the world to embark on colourful fishing boats that transport them to the beautiful islands close by. This busy bustle adds to the vibrancy of this seaside destination.

Koh Larn is the most popular among the islands, only a 20 minute cruise by speed boat. With an abundance of beautiful beaches, a range of budget to luxury accommodations and a variety of activities available.

Sun-bathers and water-sport enthusiasts are a common sight across all the main beaches.

Countless water-sports can be enjoyed all year round by those who are passionate, while extreme sport activities such as go-karting, motor-racing and also bungee jumping could provide for adrenaline junkies who prefer to remain dry.

The award winning Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden showcases a vast variety of flora with daily cultural and elephant shows available for viewing.

Pattaya is a destination for foreigners and Thai locals alike, as it is only 150 km. from Bangkok and is perfect for an all-inclusive weekend escape.

One of the most famous is along the Khao Chee Chand area which locates Wat Yansangwararam - also known as Wat Yan -- in the 145 acre space.

For families with young children the aquarium and many open zoos offer dynamic animal shows that will keep all parties entertained.

Originally a day for merit making, people still gather from villages to offer food and bathe the hands of seniors for blessings. Later on in the day, activities of sand pagoda making and local water games commence.

Muay Talay (Sea Boxing) is a local sport that originated in the southern parts of Thailand. Boxers sit on a pole suspended above seawater and fight until one gets wet or falls in. This spin on traditional boxing draws a lot of interest from foreigners and locals.

People from around the world have made Pattaya home. This city has grown into a metropolis that caters to an international demand with ever growing infrastructures, amenities and facilities.

The Bang Phra reservoir in Si Racha district, a well-known cycling destination and showcases a beautiful landscape that consists of a semi-natural lake surrounded completely by grassland and forests.

The reservoir boasts abundant wildlife. Locals are permitted to fish, gather plants and graze cattle and is also the only place for all bird lovers to bring their pets to exercise every weekend.

Many Thais prefer to enjoy the beach around sunset when the sunrays are not too strong and there is a cool breeze to lower the humidity. Young locals can be found pushing each other in the water for a fun last dip before night falls.

Fishing boats tied ashore and fishermen seen collecting their nets signal the end of the working day as the evening sets in.

As the sun sets, the calm and peaceful atmosphere of the city disappears in exchange for a night filled with high energy and excitement.

The growth of Pattaya brings in a lifestyle that suits all tastes and flairs of every traveller. SINGHA D’LUCK Cinematic Theatre is a new landmark that hosts the world class show with excellent actualised design ‘levitating theatre’, it is equipped with Asia’s latest projection technology and is challenging a new era in Thailand’s entertainment industry.

Marvel in the Vegas-style cabarets, famously performed by ladyboys. This extravaganza combines all the lights, colours and sounds needed to maintain the vibrancy of the night.
