The parameterization platform of collective life is an experimental proposal for collective life under urban mobility circumstances, and is encouraged through an architecture production process. Principle of this architecture is the emphasis on spatial qualities that are created by the relationships between different kinds of spaces and all the different situations that give those spaces life. The implementation of collective life is encouraged through three kinds of methods: the minimization of privacy, the expansion of daily activities -like preparation of food and eating - outside the private spaces, and then the customization of public life.

All these are orchestrated through a configuration process of social, spatial and structural parameters, in the options of which takes also role the user himself. Due to the dynamic and constantly evolving nature of this platform, the flexible and easy to use scaffolding system is selected, in order to create an effortless to occupy spatial grid.

panel (plywood)

The social parameterization takes into account the number of users and the degree of intimacy that already have or want to develop, leading to the definition of specific housing or working units. The spatial parameterization has to do - among other things – with the spatial planning of standing and flowing spaces, the limits and access to the units and ultimately the syntactic relationships between the units. The constructional customization takes into consideration the characteristics of the scaffolding system, its static constraints and other constructional issues concerning the possible elements that can fill up the empty areas of the spatial grid.

Through each parameter’s option of each user eventually a community is created. By articulating very small spaces, an infinite space is emerged. By articulating privacy units, eventually the space of collective life is created. read the project so far (in greek) here

2016 Special Mention in the competition Sheltering Humanity : Emergency-hosting proposals for people in the Mediterranean Sea, organised by the MOHA center.

the fow of the EMERGED platform

The advantages - functional, sociable, structural - of the aforementioned “PPCL” make it a suitable infrastructure for hosting also the refugees’ flows. The platform could serve successfully the needs of a small -just emerged- community of people, whose basic priorities are: resting, food, hygiene conditions, medical care, safety and protection from the environmental conditions. The “Emerged Platform” can be parameterized and adapted to the area according to its geomorphology, the quantity and needs of the incoming people. A supporting team of volunteers could set up the initial infrastructure (kitchens, WC, gathering points, contact centers, medical offices, lift, staircase) and then with the users’ participation the grid could be filled in. The outcome of this parameterization is an aggregation of dwelling units under socialization conditions, that decrease the feeling of marginalization while amplifies the sense of belonging to a team. Furthermore, the “Emerged PPCL” could be a solution of a less or more ephemeral minimized community. More specifically, the scaffold grids can be habitable from the very first moment by using a sleeping bag/tent over the scaffold floors or by using pre-fabricated panels with insulative and retardant materials. Finally, the “Emerged_PPCL” could be adjusted both to the natural landscape of a seashore and to the urban voids of cities, where the refugees could be hosted later and begin to integrate into the society. By articulating very small shelters, an infinite home-land can be emerged for the refugees.

2014-2015 Dissertation

& Radicalism in the Cyberpunk movement

The research aims to the presentation of a particular analogy within the Cyberpunk movement. The dipoles Cybernetics and Punk and their identical words control and radicality, online networking and networking, cyberspace and meatspace are examined through the Tenets of this specific movement and with an allegorical disposal, in order to understand their importance in the process of management and organization of space.

where cybernetics and punk meet

It turns out that these concepts refer, not only to the relations between the user and the advanced technological achievements - a characteristic feature of Cyberpunk - but they also refer, literally and figuratively, in the effort of a community of people to ensure their survival, inside a technologically sophisticated environment. And therefore, it is revealed how inside this environment, with its positive and negative characteristics, space can be managed, reclaimed and appropriated, in order to achieve the conquest of the space control and self-control of people’s community itself. To better illustrate these concepts and finally understand the direct correlation of real everyday life in this subgenre of Science Fiction, the research focuses on William Gibson’s the Bridge Trilogy.

Concept =28 (double dash twenty eight) is the approved wearable technology concept of the fictional AM Ltd. Lab. The working prototype, as shown in the polaroid photographs, is the technology that will be implement on the helmet of the fictional Concept =28 Survival Suit. The technology of this prototype is based on a proximity sensor that translates its signal to low frequency sound. With the assistance of the sound produced, the individual can navigate in environments were vision is compromised. For more information please refer to the online booklet.

He hears the surroundings approaching him while he wanders through the deserted landscape. He feels a specific kind of vibration on his fingertip while he tries to caress something that he knows are remnants of a tree. Information received from translated senses. He can’t remember the last time he felt his real senses being directly activated through every possible stimulus. The direct contact with the environment. Maybe it was some weeks or months. Maybe years and years have passed. He can’t distinguish night from day. There is only light. Unfiltered rays of the sun coming right upon him. He finds the suit really helpful. He knows he will never see again the exact shape of his surroundings. The sun so bright, a constant blur on his now useless eyes. At least with the suit he can now hear the translated data. It’s too bright and the ceaseless blurry image of brightness and shadowy figures make him contemplate. He remembers that specific picture they took together. In an era of willingness and enthusiasm to create. The mistakes. The reminder of who, why and how of this outcome. 13

The Scenario:

“2 specific conditions [...] the emergency of provisionally locating a large number of people within the urban environment [...], the need to move this type of housing away from the ground and be hanged from above[...] “

Before the workshop: The design of the proposed 5-person-shelter, takes into consideration the habitants’ needs of isolation and social meeting, while making open and closed spaces of the same importance. During the workshop: During the in situ construction the design had to be implemented because of static solutions and the need of neighbor dialogue, thus some changes had occurred maintaining though its original character.

Through the cooperation of different teams an ephemeral city was born. 15

5 Constitutional Stronghold 2012-2013

The “Constitutional Stronghold for Dummies” is an allegorical, step by step learning manual for conducting sociopolitical urban protests. The chapters of this guide include instructions like the methodical organization of a protest and how to deal with a potential evolution of a protest into a revolt. In such a scenario, the “Constitutional Stronghold” is proposed: an ephemeral structure informed by the logic of contemporary open source and DIY practices. This particular fortress is constructed by the protesters themselves, out of the very same materials used in conducting the protest, as proposed by the guide. Modular in nature, the structure’s final composition depends on the special protester’s needs and the specific site where the struc-

2010-2011 Team: Evangelia Mori _ Christoforos Dimitriou _ Stella Marie Tselepi Symbiosis?-XV biennalle de la Meditteranee-Thessalonikh / Sector: Applied Arts-Architecture

Location: Metaxoyrgeio, Athens, Greece, was from the ‘50s an immigrant concentration area. Through an effort of beautifying and invigorating the neighborhood, the multicultural element is under the danger of gentrification. Aim: Conservation of multicultural element / Dialogue between old and new.

Proposal: The relations between people – as also in the case of different nationalities- improve through the understanding of differences and common qualities, through a process of familiarity, dialogue, understanding, coexistence, influence and creativity. This evolutionary process is translated into an architectural metal pathway; along this path each nationality may be presented through the exchange of experiences and goods. This pathway guides the visitor, through the provision of cultural information, knowledge and experience, into the redesigned shell of an old small industry, where are organized extra spaces for congregation, courses and recreation. Thus, this multicultural center’s operation is based on common space symbiosis, while exchanging experiences. 21

7 Paradox: Kerameikos 2010-2011

Stages of emotional effects

Location:Kerameikos’ Promenade, Athens, Greece. Concept: The relaxation’s satisfaction from the ordinary routine and the saturated is translated through the creation of a different, paradoxical aspect of the area of Kerameikos in Athens. This is achieved with the augmented reality technology, as the passerby has the ability to play a peculiar video game. Through his smartphone, the player is connected with a specific application and wanders into the weird reconfigured area of Kerameikos. With the embodiment of the augmented reality’s fake level and the surrounding reality, a paradoxical route is synthesized, where the characteristics of all the repetitive elements of Kerameiko’s area are converted into the remains of a paradox parallel world. For his path to continue and his monotony to be eliminated, the wanderer has to answer some questions, the answers of which are hidden into the fake reality he is experiencing. The imagination is the main protagonist of this process and the player continues his wandering, weaving all the collected data of his journey, real and not, into a conclusion data base of his own, for his future potential recall and thoughts. 25
