A new era begins at Fremont Ross as the Little Giants welcome a new head coach for the first time in ten years. Craig Yeast will try to guide Ross to their first winning season in three years. The Little Giants were 5-5 in 2014, but won their last two games and three of their last four. Yeast and his team will face another tough schedule, starting with nonconference foes Elyria, Maple Heights and Sandusky before heading into Three Rivers Athletic Conference action. Ross welcomes back a number of lettermen to this year’s squad, mostly at the skilled positions. Back are quarterbacks Jalen Slick and Jarren Hampton; running backs Uriah Hahn, Devante Daniels, Isaiah McDonald and Ben Root; and receivers Jeffery Barnett, Javon McDonald, Tanner Albert and Stefan Johnson. Graduation hit the offensive and defensive lines hard, with Patrick Rusher one of the few experienced returnees. The coach’s son, Russ Yeast, is a new addition to the team as a sophomore and is expected to contribute his skills. Meanwhile, Fremont St. Joe Central Catholic is coming off a 7-4 season, including a 5-2 mark in the final year of the Midland Athletic League. The Streaks finished second in the league, behind co-champs Carey and Tiffin Calvert. The Streaks start play in the new Sandusky River League, which includes Lakota, Sandusky St. Mary and Fostoria St. Wendelin in football plus New Riegel and Old Fort in other sports, such as basketball. This means St. Joe will have seven non-conference games this year, including Lake, Leipsic, Oak Harbor and Bucyrus. Lost to graduation are ten seniors from last year’s squad, namely running backs Mitchell Gonya, Marcus Kerr and Bennett Weickert; receivers Ryan Williams, Hunter Harrison and Matt Fox; and linemen Jacob Widman, Grant Please turn to Page 7

Mercer, Corey Durbin and Nick Militello. Second-year head coach T.J. Buckley has limited experience returning, led by quarterback Kyle Veleba, receiver Jake Yeckley and linemen Ben and Bobby Mancha. The Gibsonburg Golden Bears, under head coach Steve Reser, ended the 2013 with a 5-5 overall record, but were 4-3 inside the Toledo Area Athletic Conference. Senior quarterback Matt Tille is back after starting the last three years. Other area teams will be led by new head coaches, such as Eric Brickman at Lakota (4-6 in 2013), Brian Spicer at Woodmore (6-4 in 2013) and Paul Patterson at Genoa (10-1 last season). Veteran head coach Jerry Rutherford will once again lead the way at Eastwood (8-3 last season).

Fliers and Redmen on 92.1 The Wolf WOHF By Jon Kerns, BAS Sports Network In 2013, the Clyde Fliers football team finished second in the Sandusky Bay Conference – behind champion Perkins – but that only inspired first-year head coach Ryan Carter and his team. The Fliers went on to win three games in the Division III playoffs over Medina Buckeye, Perkins and Toledo Central Catholic, before losing in the state semi-finals. The team’s final record was 12-2. More than a dozen players graduated earlier this year from Clyde High School – including most of the starting skilled positions – but Carter will count on the same number of current seniors for leadership. The Fliers have another tough non-conference schedule as they take on Tiffin Columbian, Eastwood and Bellevue
in the first three weeks of the regular season. Meanwhile, the Bellevue Redmen slipped a notch last season after advancing to the Division III state championship game in 2012. The Redmen finished the year with a 6-4 overall record and 4-2 inside the Northern Ohio League, which was won by Tiffin Columbian. It’s year number 24 for Ed Nasonti as Bellevue’s head football coach, winning 185 games over the years. The Redmen look to be in the mix for the NOL championship along with recent powers Tiffin Columbian and Norwalk. The first three games of the season will be a test as Perkins, Huron and Clyde are scheduled.

WTTF to Follow Tornadoes and Senecas By Billy Hassinger, BAS Sports Network Cody Kimmet should be one of the top receivers on offense. Meanwhile, Calvert finished the regular season with a 6-4 record, just good enough for a trip to the Division VII playoffs. The Senecas defeated Edon in the first round but fell to Delphos St. John’s one week later. Coach Todd Fox and his staff will need to replace Austin Ball, who rushed for 790 yards and eight touchdowns last year. Also lost to graduation is leading tackler Marcus Somers and Dan Reineke, who had six interceptions. Senior Tyler Long returns as the team’s quarterback. Last season, he passed for 1,066 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 1,443 yards and 15 touchdowns. Also back are Donovan Stith (478 yards receiving and five touchdowns) and Adam Recker (438 yards and four touchdowns). Calvert starts play in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference this season. Non-conference games include Hopewell-Loudon, Norwalk St. Paul, New London and Bucyrus Wynford.
Both Tiffin high school football teams – Columbian and Calvert –will once again be featured on WTTF AM 1600, FM 93.3 and online at www.wttf.com. The Columbian Tornadoes finished the 2013 season with a 10-2 mark, winning the NOL for the second consecutive season. After losing the opening game of the season to Clyde, the team won ten straight before falling in the regional semi-finals. Two of those wins were over rival Norwalk, once in the regular season and once in the Division III playoffs. Heading into the new season, head coach Brian Colatruglio has some holes to fill on the offensive side of the ball. Lost to graduation are two All-Ohio players, offensive lineman Isiah Moore and running back Ryan Lynch, along with quarterback Donovan Walker. Lynch rushed for more than 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns. Junior Frazier Daniel is expected to lead the way upfront while the ground game will be led by Spencer Franklin. Junior Stone Simmons will be called upon at quarterback while junior

The 2014 version of the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets has several skill players returning including running back J.D. Orr who was named OCC Capital Player of the Year and First Team All OCC Capital QB Ryan Fitzgerald. The Jackets will also have the luxury of playing on field turf when they play their first home game on September 5th. (Head Coach: Anthony Naples) 2013 6-4 No Playoffs.
The Centerburg Trojans had a great start to life in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference last year going 10-1 and hosting their first playoff game since 2005. The Trojans start the 2014 season off with some new faces namely at the quarterback spot, where 3rd Team All-Ohio QB Tyler Stoyle will be moving on to play at Heidelberg. The Trojans lost at home in their first round playoff game against Monroe Central last year ending a magical season that saw the Trojans win the MOAC. The Trojans get back speedster Jeremy Sesma and star wide receiver Jake Stewart this year. Please turn to Page 28.

2014 Danville Blue Devils
ville has won 14 of the last 15 Devil Dog games including eight in a row. Danville won last year’s meeting 28-0 and lead the all-time series 36-20-1, the lone tie was in 1961, an 18-18 tie. This year’s Devil Dog Game is at East Knox High School.
_______________________________ OTHER AREA 2013 RECORDS
Only two Knox County teams made the playoffs in 2013 and it was no shock to see the Danville Blue Devils in that familiar territory despite losing Division 6 offensive player of the year Bryce Staats from 2012. Ridge Durbin stepped in beautifully for the Blue Devils last year though throwing for 2,800 yards and scoring 36 touchdowns in his sophomore campaign, The Blue Devils in 2014 will be without Defensive stars Conway Baldridge and Andy Payne due to graduation. (Head Coach: Ed Honabarger) 2013 9-3 lost in 2nd round of playoffs to Western Reserve 31-26.

Devil Dog Game 2014 The annual Devil Dog Game will have a different feel this year as the Danville Blue Devils with face off with the East Knox Bulldogs in Howard in week three on a Friday, as opposed to week ten on a Saturday that has become routine for the rivalry. East Knox fans though hope it’s different for a separate reason, that the Bulldogs can win. Dan-

Regional Season Review/Preview by Mark Fogg, BAS Sports Network
The Northern Ohio League had two playoff teams last season in Norwalk and Tiffin Columbian. As luck would have it, those two teams met in the First Round of the playoffs with the Tornadoes beating the Truckers in a thrilling double overtime contest, 34-28. Columbian would go on and lose their next game against Toledo Central Catholic, 42-13. Tiffin Columbian was actually the League Champion for the second straight season, finishing at 10-2 overall and 5-0 in league play. Norwalk finished the season at 9-2 overall with their only two losses of the season coming to Columbian. The Sandusky Bay Conference put three teams in the playoffs last year - Perkins, Huron and Clyde. The Fliers advanced the farthest, moving all the way to the State
Semi-Finals before losing to Trotwood Madison, 54-7. After playoff wins over Liberty-Benton and Loudonville, Huron lost to Coldwater, 60-13 and Perkins beat Napoleon, 35-11 before losing the rematch to Clyde, 19-6. The Pirates won the SBC Championship last season as they swept through conference play unbeaten for the second straight season. Clyde finished runner-up with Huron finishing alone in third place. 2014 could be another exciting year for regional high school football. The SBC loses a team this season as St. Mary Central Catholic has withdrawn to join the brand new Sandusky River League along with Fremont St. Joe CC, Lakota and Fostoria St. Wendelin. New Riegel and Old Fort will join up for the 2014-2015 basketball season.
