Eagle 99 to Focus on Fremont Ross, St. Joe Central Catholic By Jon Kerns, BAS Sports Network
At the midway point of the 2014 high school football season, Fremont Ross seemed to have no chance to make the Division II playoffs. However, after winning their fi nal fi ve games to fi nish 7-3, the Little Giants earned a fi rst round playoff game, but lost to powerful Nordonia. Second-year head coach Craig Yeast will have to replace more than 15 seniors off last year’s squad, including veteran quarterback Jalen Slick, receiver Jeffery barnett and fullback and linebacker ben Root, plus the punter and kicker. However, a number of experienced players return to the 2015 team, including multi-talented Russ Yeast, the coach’s son. Yeast and his team will start with non-conference foes Springfi eld, Sylvania Southview and Sandusky before heading into the always-tough Three Rivers Athletic Conference. Meanwhile across town, St. Joe Central Catholic team looks to improve after last season’s young team struggled to a 2-8 fi nal record. Third-year head coach T.J. buckley hopes to have a bigger roster this year. The varsity squad numbered 26 last season, which included freshmen. Lost to graduation were Jake Yeckley, Lucas Michael, Kyle Veleba and Kyle Meyer. The Streaks will begin with seven non-conference games this year before fi nishing the regular season with Sandusky River League foes Fostoria St. Wendelin, Lakota and Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic. The Streaks were 1-2 in league play in 2014. In 2014, the Gibsonburg Golden bears nearly pulled off a perfect regular season, but lost 21-13 to Northwood late in the season. Head coach Steve Reser will have some holes to fi ll, including quarterback Matt Tille, Please turn to Page 7

Columbian Looks To Stay Healthy In 2015 By Billy Hassinger, BAS Sports Network 2014 was a rough year for the Tornadoes and coach Brian Colatruglio. After posting at least 10 wins ever season under Colatruglio and making the playoffs, 2014 was the year they may want to forget. Going 6-3 through week nine of the regular season the Tornados needed a win in the finale against Ontario to have a shot at making the playoffs. They lost and ended their season. A big part of that was due to the injury plague. They lost a number of key players on defense including linebacker Ross Pauley. In 2015 they’ll need to look to replace the productivity of graduate Derek Dryfuse. With returning starter Cody Kimmet, they’ll need someone else to step up for quarterback Stone Simmons to throw the ball to. The need to run the ball last year was there with Cliff Miller and Brandon Rhoades both
being very dominant runners in their own aspects. Miller was a speedster who could get to the outside and Rhoades could pound it up the middle, but they have moved on from graduation and we could see Pauley move over and take more carries this year than last year. Also returning and potentially seeing carries will be Aaron Sostaric. He suffered a severe concussion last year and the team would love to see him back this year if he is able to go. A big part of the ground success was the offensive line which featured three seniors. Returning though to anchor it will be senior Frazier Daniel. He has helped pave the way for a dominate ground attack the past two seasons and he will be protecting Simmons and opening up holes once again, how-

Mid-Ohio High School Football Ready to Take the Field By Tyler Mathias, BAS Sports Network
2015 Mount Vernon Football
Centerburg Trojans 2015 Football
The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets followed the same storyline as they had the previous year, start hot, fi nish slow and miss the playoffs. The Jackets reeled off fi ve straight wins after losing their opener against Central Crossing. The hardest blow was a tough loss against big Walnut in which the Jackets allowed the Eagles to win on the fi nal play. New Mount Vernon Coach Justin Todd comes in to help develop skilled players such as Nate Davis. He’ll be looking to replace all-time leading rusher JD Orr. The Jackets open the season at home vs. Marion Harding on August 28th.
If the Centerburg Trojans want to repeat last season’s success they’ll have to do it without 2nd team All Central District quarterback John Rings. Centerburg will also lose wide receivers Jake Stewart, Jeremy Sesma, brenden Mapes as well as linebacker Anthony Tucker. The Trojans have been successful rebuilding in the past and certainly look to do so this coming season. Leading the charge will be wide receiver Kyle Hogan, who posted over 200 yards receiving in a playoff game against Lucasville Valley. Other players will also have to step up for the Trojans to clinch their third straight playoff appearance.

Calvert Looks To Replace A School Great In Tyler Long By Billy Hassinger, BAS Sports Network Tyler Long set so many records during his time at Calvert. He was a prolifi c runner who was a very good thrower too. He had defenses scheming just to shut him down, but he was still able to run through and around them. This upcoming season, we could see quite a bit different offensively from the Senecas with Long now departed due to graduation. Coach Todd Fox is entering his sixth season at the helm and looks to lead the team to their fi rst 10+ win season despite having won two league titles and qualifying for the playoffs four times. Replacing Long at quarterback will be senior Drew Ritzler. Last season after Long suffered an injury to his shoulder and was not as effective throwing the ball, Ritzler came in and could put on a very nice passing display as he was accurate on his throws. He doesn’t bring quite the mobility as Long, but he can escape the pocket and extend plays. He will have a very solid running back returning with Adam Recker in the backfi eld with him. Recker will likely split carries with a committee of running backs. Up front on the line they lose their big player Matt Iannantuono to graduation. He leaves a big hole on offense and defense as he was everywhere on the fi eld making plays while lining up on the defensive side of the ball. Also graduating was Marcus King and Cameron Felter. They return some nice players on the line, but experience can come into play early on. They lose three big receivers with Donovan Stith, billy burns and Michael Smith graduating. Junior Alex Keller will step in to take a lot of the workload at wideout but they will need some other guys to step up. Devin Stith is a
talented pass catcher from the tight end position and he’ll come in very handy. A big question though will be the return game. Donovan Stith was a prolifi c return man who kept them in games or busted games open with his return ability. They’ll need someone to help replace him. In 2015, they could reach the 10-win milestone for the fi rst time under coach Fox. They do not have Wynford or St. Paul on their schedule and the toughest opponent looks as though it’ll be Gibsonburg, besides that they may be able to run through the competition this year to claim their second consecutive Toledo Area Athletic Conference crown.

ever with several new faces on the line, it could take some time for them to gel as a unit and be the force they can be. Defensively a big loss is Joey Moore upfront. He was a big run stopper last year up the middle. The biggest loss could be Dryfuse who not only excelled as a pass catcher, but as a pass rusher. He supplied pressure over and over again last season and his productivity will be missed sorly. 2015 can be a great season for the Tornadoes, but lots of questions still remain. With the core of a team that went 6-4 last season returning, how will they handle the pressure of needing to step up and replace the production of those gone? This is a team that can go 9-1 in the regular season or potentially fall as far as 5-5. Team chemistry is going to be huge for the Tornadoes to have success this fall.

Sandusky Area Football Review/Preview by Mark Fogg, BAS Sports Network
The Northern Ohio League had two playoff teams last season in Norwalk and Bellevue. Norwalk enters this season as the defending champs, while the Redmen finished second in the league standings. Norwalk beat Perkins in the first round of the playoffs before bowing out to Clyde in round two. Bellevue also won their playoff opener against Keystone ... but then lost out to Wauseon in week twelve. The Sandusky Bay Conference put four teams in the playoffrs last year ... Huron, Clyde, Perkins and Port Clinton. The Fliers advanced the farthest, moving all the way to the Regional Finals, before losing to Toledo Central Catholic. Huron lost in the Regional Semi-Finals, while Perkins and Port Clinton both lost their playoff openers. For Port Clinton, it was their first playoff game ever.
In this season’s pre-season SBC polls ... both the coaches and media picked Perkins to return to win their third title in the past four years. Huron was the unanimous number two pick in the conference. The Sandusky Bay Conference will have just six teams competing this season. St. Mary Central Catholic left two years ago for the Sandusky River League and Margaretta will play an independent schedule this season. Both the Panthers and Polar Bears will be back next year when the SBC expands to a two-division setup. St. Mary Central Catholic won the first Sandusky River League Championship last year, but missed out on a playoff berth by 0.9 percentage points. The SRL will become part of the two-division SBC in the 2016-17 school year.
Fliers and Redmen Featured on 92.1 The Wolf WOHF By Jon Kerns, BAS Sports Network For the second straight year, the Clyde Fliers football team finished second in the Sandusky Bay Conference, but had a nice run in the Division III playoffs. Last season, the Fliers were 4-2 inside the SBC, but grabbed playoffs wins over Mansfield Madison and Norwalk before falling to eventual state champion Toledo Central Catholic 35-3 in the third round. The Fliers ended the season 10-3. Third-year head coach Ryan Carter and his Fliers start the season with three very tough opponents in Tiffin Columbian, Eastwood and Bellevue, all teams they defeated last year. With the exception of Toledo Bowsher and Vermilion, their remaining games are with Sandusky Bay Conference foes.
Meanwhile, the Bellevue Redmen also qualified for the playoffs in 2014, this time in Division IV. They suffered two losses in the regular season – to powerhouses Clyde and Norwalk. The Redmen finished the year with a 9-3 overall record and 5-1 inside the Northern Ohio League, which was won by Norwalk. Ed Nasonti begins his 25th year as Bellevue’s head football coach, winning 194 games over the years. The Redmen again look to be in the mix for the NOL championship in 2015, but play non-conference opponents Perkins, Huron, Clyde and Toledo Waite to start the season.
