Jesus says in John 17:16-18 “They are not of the world even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, so I send them into the world”. In this prayer Jesus makes it clear to us that there is an apostleship of all believers, we have all been sent out.
The word apostle, from the Greek Word “apostolos” means one who is sent or commissioned. As believers we have all been sent for a purpose and that purpose is connected to His purpose, the purpose for which He came. “I have established you to be a light of the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 13:47 47). We have been placed in this community for a bigger purpose, we have been sent as light that brings salvation. Jesus is the Light of the world and His light needs to shine.
Here are some characteristics of an apostolic church:
A breakthrough and pioneering spirit that has an influence on community and starts new things
Apostolic churches have the tendency to reignite the fire of God and help determine the spiritual temperate of a community
An apostolic church moves in the supernatural with healing, deliverance and restoration
Apostolic Churches are mission minded, having world evangelism at the heart of their ministry.
We have just begun to experience some of these characteristics and as a church we are striving to fulfil all the Lord has called us for.
The apostolic church is a continuation of Jesus’ ministry where He is the head, and we are His body. Christ’s commission of the disciples and our commission to advance the kingdom came with the authority necessary to complete the task. The source of the power we need comes from the same encounter with the Holy Spirit.
May we together as an apostolic church be passionate about the call of God on our lives to fulfil all He has sent us to do.
As Paul says in Philippians 3:14 “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
