GOD'S PRAYER Priestly Word and
For
the past month we have been talking about the priesthood of all believers. We are called as priests to watch and pray.
Even before we attempt to do our priestly duty of prayer, we need the Spirit to convict us of sin and confess our sins and forgive those who have sinned against us. We are called as priests to purify ourselves even as He is pure, “Search me O God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts, see if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:2324). We can then have free access to the throne of grace.
Our vision as All Nations is to be a house of prayer for all people (Isaiah 56:7). At the same time, we need to rightly divide the word of truth. In 2 Timothy 2:15 it says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved unto God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Another word for dividing the word of truth is handling the word of truth. It is like a sword and not to be played with.
The true position that we are to seek as priests before our God is to humble ourselves under His mighty hand.
When we do not use the sword correctly, dividing between soul and spirit, we allow our fleshly preferences to get in the way of His eternal purposes. This why we need to rightly handle the Word of God.
That is why the Psalmist prayed “unite my heart to fear your name”. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.

At times we are all tempted to criticise a brother, but as priests we are called to pray for one another. It is imperative to pray for a fellow worker rather than to talk behind his back. That is why we are urged not slander or backbite or hold on to offences but forgive quickly so as not to grieve the Holy Spirit by whom we were sealed (Ephesians 4:3).
We can then, as priests, freely intercede for our city, nation, and the nations, and see His kingdom come.
Let us continue to be a house of prayer for all nations and fervently desire to see His glory being revealed.
