introduction to infinity lighting solutions Infinity Lighting Solutions may well be the only lighting specialists in the UK to offer the design, supply and install of innovative lighting solutions for business and home consumers as one package. By doing so, they aim to save businesses time and money and provide them with an all round better service by eliminating the need to hire a designer for one part of the job, source appropriate lighting products and then employ an electrician to fit them. It sounds simple, but Mathew Rutherford, Managing Director, highlighted that this was a gap in the market and, like all good businessmen, saw an opportunity in filling it. Infinity’s product catalogue is made up of their picks of popular products but, Mat explains, it’s really just a showcase to give examples. If none of the favourite options highlighted by Infinity are right for your job, they’re free to source whatever’s appropriate from wherever they can get you a good deal. And of course, because you’re cutting out at least one, potentially two sets of ‘middle men’ and a lot of legwork and research for yourself, this represents a substantial saving in time and money. As a two-man team, Infinity began over a drink and within a couple of months, they had completed their first job for a satisfied

customer, and ambitious plans were in place. Infinity intend to grow their team substantially as demand builds, and aim to be manufacturing their own LED products within 30 months, and the reason they are able to plan this ambitiously is because, they say, switching to LED lighting should be a ‘nobrainer’ for most businesses because it is an environmentally friendly solution which actually saves money. “We do personalised cost-analyses for our customers,” explains Mat, “and find that typically, converting to LED lighting can save a business or home consumer up to 60% on their energy costs. When you then factor in reduced costs for maintenance and replacement, as LEDS that are fitted properly with the appropriate peripherals can last indefinitely, the saving is actually even more than this.” Because it’s an ecologically sound measure, converting to LED lighting is a step that some businesses can qualify for a grant towards. Infinity Lighting Solutions are approved under the Enhanced Capital Allowance and Carbon Low Cost schemes, so they are eligible for the use of this funding. LED Lighting explained What is an LED light? A light-emitting diode (LED) is an electronic light source. Discovered in the early 20th century, LEDs were introduced as practical components in 1962. The technical jargon necessary to explain LED technology entails words and phrases including anodes, cathodes, diodes and photons, silicon carbide and gallium arsenide and electron holes. Oh, and of course, the cat’s whisker detector. But we won’t delve into all of that. We’ll keep it simple, while still illuminating. If you really want read all the technical stuff, though. Early LED devices emitted low-intensity red light. Remember the blinking light on your old telephone answering machine? That was an LED. Modern LEDs are brighter and available across a number of wavelengths, including visible, ultraviolet and infrared. The bottom line is this: LEDs are a better way to bring light to life. DVRs DVRs enable users to simultaneously monitor and record numerous cameras with motion detection triggers. Any recordings are saved onto the DVR hard drives and can be played back on the DVR itself, or transferred to alternative media. When choosing your DVR, it’s important to consider how many cameras you need it to record. A 4 Channel DVR can be linked up to four CCTV cameras, an 8 Channel DVR to eight cameras, a 16 Channel DVR to 16, and so on. If you’re looking to gain the benefits of a high-end CCTV system in minutes, consider a PCI or USB DVR, which plug directly into the back of your PC.

Wired, wireless and IP cameras If you already have a CCTV kit and are looking to extend the network of security cameras for your home, we sell both wired and wireless CCTV systems. If you need to record what are you are viewing, wired CCTV systems provide the best picture quality with zero interference. Wired CCTV cameras most commonly use BNC plugs, which can be connected to your TV using an adaptor, or directly into a DVR. However, wired cameras can be more difficult to install and cannot be easily moved to another location. Wireless security camera systems take away the worry of video cables running around your property – all you need is a power source. Using the latest digital technology, some wireless CCTV cameras offer an improved transmission range of up to 200m. Although these cameras are often easier to install and move around than wired ones, they can sometimes suffer interference from other wireless signals, like WiFi networks. Internet Protocol cameras, or IP cameras, work in a similar way to traditional webcams, by sending and receiving data via the internet. IP cameras offer as open or closed access to the footage as needed, while the images recorded can be viewed remotely using any PC. However, these cameras are often more expensive than wired and wireless cameras.
