New Fish-Eye Lens from Sanyang Samyang has today announced the launch of the 12mm 1:2:8 ED AS NCS Fish-Eye lens. The new lens is the Korean brand’s widest 35mm film format lens to date, and has been described as one of the ‘most advanced’ fish-eye lenses available. It consists of 12 elements arranged in eight groups, including three made of low dispersion ED glass, and two aspherical elements designed to minimise chromatic aberration. This will be Samyang’s third lens to feature nanocrystal and

anti-reflection NSC coating applied together with UMC, first seen on the 10mm f/2.8 and then the 12mm f/2.0. These coatings allow for the fast aperture of f/2.8, making this lens ideal for shooting in diverse lighting conditions. It is as yet early days, and a release date and RRP have yet to be announced. The official distributer of Samyang lenses in the UK is Intro2020.

High Quality ‘Portrait’ Lens from Zeiss

Photokina will act as a springboard for the new ‘world class’ Otus 1.4/85 lens from ZEISS The newest member of ZEISS’ Otus family adds a new, shorter focal length to the photographer’s portfolio. With a slightly longer focal length than ‘normal lenses’, the new Otus is targeted as an ‘allrounder’ for fashion, advertising, product and architectural photographers. Christophe Casenave, Product Manager at ZEISS Camera Lenses, said:“When we launched the Otus 1.4/55, our customers immediately understood the benefits they can get from such a lens: using their high-end full-frame

camera, they can shoot pictures with a quality and look they were previously only used to getting from expensive mediumformat systems. “With the Otus 1.4/85 we are now bringing out the second lens with this promise. Again with the Otus 1.4/85 we can say that this is a lens without any compromise on image quality. Contrast and resolution power are at the maximum level; there are no chromatic aberrations, even in the most challenging light situations; and there’s no distortion, ghosting or flare. And all of this

at any aperture. When you use an Otus lens, you can focus on the composition of your images. You don’t need to spend any time thinking about whether the technology could possibly be a limiting factor.”‚Ä® ZEISS will also be releasing UV and POL filters with a diameter of 86mm to be used with the Otus. Availability: Worldwide with EFmount (ZE) and F-mount (ZF.2) from mid-September 2014 Price: £2,689.17 exc. VAT

Ricoh Launches ‘Industrial-Strength’ G800 The new G800 digital camera is designed to withstand the harshest working environments Construction sites, disaster relief areas and war zones are all no match for the new Ricoh G800 (successor to the G700 launched in 2010), which can be used at depths of up to 5m (for up to 2 hours) and withstand drops of up to 2m in tests conducted according to American military standards. Featuring a back-illuminated, 16-million pixel CMOS image sensor capable of bright low-light

exposures, it can record detailed photographs and Full HD movies even in poorly-lit working environments. The new G800 features improved password protection. Protection that could formerly be applied to only one function at a time (for example, to restrict access to internal memory)

now can be applied to multiple camera functions. Ricoh has added support for separate administrator and user passwords, so that in addition to preventing on-site handling errors and unauthorised viewing of photographs, security settings

can be fine-tuned separately for administrators and on-site workers according to how each uses the device. And the Ricoh G800 can be used in even more working environments than its predecessor—not only in outdoor situations such as during disaster relief, but on construction sites as well as medical and production facilities. RRP: £599.99. UK availability: October 2014.
