What was your inspiration behind the styling for this party shoot? Milk Bar! Cubby houses are so on trend right now and we wanted to put our own vibe to it by creating a retro style Milk Bar that would be every little chef’s dream! I had a vision in my mind of a 3D retro milk carton which brought me back to my child hood. Donuts, milk, cookies, chef’s hats & the cutest décor were served up by Chef Sienna & Chef Willa. Don’t they just make you smile? There are so many amazing cubby hacks out there, we couldn’t wait to style our own, so after many hours of Pinterest searching, the Milk Bar was created. A café cubby & mini outdoor setting was used to display the most amazing desserts and we included natural shades of mint green, white, silver & grey. We just love the mint green balloons adding pops of pastel across the Milk Bar set up and creating the illusion of clouds which complimented our little cloud plates and napkins.
What were some of the unique features of this setup? The amazing milk bottle & cookie cake by SweetP Cakes & Cookies. Our little Chefs’ couldn’t keep their hands off the donuts and milk bottle shaped cookies also made by SweetP Cakes & Cookies. The balloons by Ruby Ju Events created the fluffy cloud vibe we wanted and were the perfect combo for the cloud plates, napkins and candy stripe straws from Ruby Rabbit. We had the cutest milk carton shaped menus for our busy little Milk Bar and what an entrance we had with custom signage from Communicake It. Chef Sienna & Chef Willa got their bake on with a custom baking kit from Bake Believe. Share your top tips for those planning children’s parties and celebrations Make a list & check it twice! – We are huge fans of lists & mood boards. Having a visual to refer to will always ensure you stay within budget. Children’s party can be stressful when they are meant to be enjoyable. Lavish parties don’t necessarily need to cost a fortune. Be creative! Have fun!

www.onestylishparty.com When it comes to decorating what are the newest decor ideas that you’re loving for this year?
themes. This year, I think we will see more acrylic party props used in event designs, such as signage pedestals, chargers, dessert stands and more.
While the trend started to catch on last year, I am loving the use of streamer/fringe backdrops for parties this year. It is such a fun and impactful way to add colour to any party theme and it looks great when combined with balloons or creative event signage.
What colour schemes will be the favorites for kids parties in the 12 months ahead?
I am also loving party styling props that are versatile and can be used over and over again for a variety of party 16

It is so tough to narrow this down! I am seeing more and more parents gravitate towards bold, bright colours for their children’s younger birthday parties, which is a shift away from the more muted tones we used to see,
especially for first birthday celebrations. An example of a trendy boys colour scheme would be Caribbean blue, wintergreen, royal blue, turquoise and perhaps the addition of a bold graphic black and white print. For girls, I see a lot of bright rainbow colour schemes or a selection of jewel tones such as fuchsia, turquoise and amethyst. Depending on the theme, soft pastels are still on trend, however, you will see very soft, unique shades of pastels used, rather than just standard light pink, light blue, etc.
What are your favorite ways to get inspired and stay on trend when styling or planning for children’s celebrations?
What overall trends are you seeing for kids celebrations in the US and around the world? Many overall party trends typically originate from the seasons throughout year. Every spring, you can expect to see lots of bright pastel floral parties, and every fall, you can expect to see darker hues and a more rustic approach to party themes. There are a few party trends that are popular right now that work well regardless of the season. One party theme I am seeing a lot of is llamas! This sweet little animal is popping up just about everywhere in kids celebrations this year. I am also seeing many retro throwback parties gaining traction in the party world, such as 90’s inspired parties.
Instagram and Pinterest are the top two sites that I look to for inspiration. But I rarely look for actual party ideas! Usually I am inspired by a colour palette, interior design, or maybe a fashion trend that was recently on the runway, and then I try to translate these things into ideas for styling a party.
Number one tip when it comes to planning for a child’s celebration? My first step to planning a party is always to create an inspiration board. By dedicating an hour or so up front to search and compile party inspiration, I have found that it can save me hours (or more!) throughout the party planning process. An inspiration board requires you to loosely form your ideas for the theme, colour palette, and vibe of the party. It also serves as a visual reference to keep you on track when selecting and ordering details for the party, and it is also helpful to send to vendors you work with too. What was your inspiration behind the styling for this party shoot? Rather than the pastel tones which are traditionally associated with Easter, I took inspiration from the richer colours of Autumn, when the holiday falls in Australia, working within a palette ranging from peach and blush through to pops of deep burgundy. Styling was vintage-inspired with a good dose of whimsy and plenty of florals, reflecting the rural garden location of Teavine House on the Gold Coast hinterland, and the picnic theme. And of course, it just wouldn’t be Easter without bunnies and eggs included in the styling!
What were some of the unique features of this setup? Our stunning fresh floral features were a highlight of the setup, and included a chandelier of fresh roses suspended over the low pallet table, along with a beautiful coordinating floral runner for the table itself. Custom signage functioned as clues for an Easter treasure hunt, and featured sweet poems and slogans and a beautiful floral design which again complimented the fresh flower arrangements created for the shoot. A striking collection of handmade piñatas was another unique addition to the setting, each one shaped as a giant Easter egg and decorated with colourful paper flowers and fringing, then strung together from a brass frame in the gardens. Unique props included the vintage cane cart styled to display the sweet Easter Bunny cake, and an antique French dresser laden with more delicious desserts.
Share your top tips for those planning children’s parties and celebrations •A llow yourself plenty of time, especially if you are ordering party supplies from overseas. It is never too early to start researching ideas for your theme, or to contact vendors you would like to work with. • T alk to your little one about what will happen on the day, how to greet their guests, gift etiquette, but keep it light and fun – parties can be overwhelming at any age! • P rioritise entertainment for the kids! Whether this means booking a face painter or planning a few games yourself (even big kids like Pass the Parcel!), you want to have something ready to keep the kids busy when the sugar rush kicks in. • P ack a ‘party emergency kit’ – items could include sunscreen/insect repellent (if the party is outdoors), baby wipes, candles/cake knife, blu-tack, safety pins, a few extra prizes or lolly bags. 20

How do your clients benefit from using your services?

It’s difficult to find the time to search for the many decorative pieces it takes to create a truly beautiful Christmas scene let alone decorate it. It can be particularly time-consuming when we’re talking about the 250+ ornaments and trimmings on each of our trees. Plus, as we all know trends and taste change. Our clients can have a different tree in their theme of choice every year without the hassle of sourcing these special items themselves.
What inspired you to start Deck the Halls Styling?
And when it comes to parties - I’ve worked with balloons for the past 25 years & I’ve been a Certified Balloon Artist for almost as long so when a customer works with me they’re guaranteed a certain level of service and style. I love working with clients as much or, as little as they need me to. Whether it be styling their whole home for the festive season, coordinating their entire party or just making their lives that little bit easier by taking some of the decor decisions off their hands. It’s incredible to think about, but I still get excited over parties & life’s special occasions because even after all
I’ve always had a love for Christmas. Growing up, I’d watch Christmas movies all year round and be mesmerised by the magic of the beautiful displays. I wanted to recreate this same feeling for my clients by lovingly styling their homes and businesses with highly detailed Christmas trees and props - bringing that little bit more magic into their lives at the most wonderful time of the year. I grew up in the family of one of Australia’s founding balloon and event companies so I’ve been around the industry for a long time. I had a hiatus after my family sold the business but continued to decorate with balloons and style events privately. Now that my kids are a bit older I’m able to live out my passion for all things Christmas and use the other 11 months of the year to help others make their party dreams come true.

What was your inspiration behind the styling for this party shoot? I wanted to try something different. I wanted to use a colour pallet that is rarely seen in events and to make it work. When it comes to kids celebrations, generally a girl’s event will use various tones of pink, whilst a boy’s will use blue – I love that! But why not incorporate some other bold colours to make them shine? My theme was a floral garden for a baby boy’s christening. A lot of people associate flowers with being feminine, but if used in an un-structured way, they can also be masculine! With this shoot, my aim was to create something “beautiful”, not “pretty”.
What were some of the unique features of this setup? The floral creations - from the overhanging guest table centerpiece to the waterfall of flowers are elements that have been seen in other events on their own, but rarely put together in one style. The entire focus on this theme was the flowers and the way that our flowers were used! The aim was to be “different”, “unstructured” and to create the “WOW” factor. Another unique feature was definitely the colour pallet! Here we have also used oranges, yellows, greens and golds to highlight the overtones of the blue ombre and white throughout the theme. Not only do our colours contrast, but also our textures – from the soft cotton fabric napkins, to the rough textures of the wooden backdrop and our statement printed tableware – our aim was to mix up the “norm” and go against the “uniform”.
Share your top tips for those planning children’s parties and celebrations Be patient and focused on what you want to achieve. It’s really important to let your child’s event reflect their personality – ultimately, it’s their party and there are no rules! You can make your own rules! Don’t be afraid to do something different and to create your own trend – even if it’s just something small like a different colour or even a different dessert, make it personlised! Your guests will always remember you for it! If you aren’t sure on how your idea will work, speak to a stylist or a friend who can help you picture the design and discuss how the individual elements will work together.

What was your inspiration behind the styling for this party shoot?

Leah loves playing with dolls and her doll-house at home and I wanted a theme which was reminiscent of a classic little girl’s childhood. Leah received a “Dreamy Doll” for her birthday and this doll helped to inspire the theme also.
What were some of the unique features of this setup? I love how the Doll and Dollhouse theme was brought to life through the gorgeous graphics (by Pink Pom Pom Kids) which then inspired everything from the Dollhouse backdrop, the foam props, the gorgeous cake and those dollhouse favour boxes! The backdrop from The Treasure Room set the scene and the amazing Cake with the floating balloon by Cake from the Heart truly blew me away. The kids really loved the slide, ball pit and tent from Little Party Play along with the games by Birthday Fairy.
Share your top tips for those planning children’s parties and celebrations Choose quality vendors you can trust to bring a theme to life. Outsource to ease the stress and ensure you consider something to keep the kids entertained to ensure it is truly fun for them! I used some wonderful Celebrate Society members for Leah’s party including Astrid from Paper Playground to style on the day who helped bring the whole concept to life.

What was your inspiration behind the styling for this party shoot? Recently deciding to decorate my son’s bedroom ‘under the sea’ with a focus on whales, we thought it would be a really fun theme for a kids party! Inspired by the watercolour wall decals from Ginger Monkey, we came up with this fresh new boys party theme, loving the ombre blue tones.

What were some of the unique features of this setup? We wanted a heavy focus on ombre blue to replicate the feel of the sea, so we used this theme through our balloon garlands and streamer wall which were the biggest features of this event. Not wanting to distract from these beautiful colours, we kept any other elements to clear acrylic or white like our acrylic dessert table and our white signage. Another unique feature was our homemade playdough in a watercolour blue. The kids absolutely loved having a little play at the table and made some beautiful works of art.
Share your top tips for those planning children’s parties and celebrations Streamer walls are currently trending in the party industry and we wanted to get on board and try our hand at it. Our top tip is to focus on one photographic element of the party, like a dessert table and backdrop. Sometimes we can get a little lost in trying to carry our theme throughout the whole event/house. This is especially important when also keeping to a budget.

What was your inspiration behind the styling for this party shoot? This party was inspired by Peggy Porschen cakes, a modern English pink cake store, having a high tea in a favourite café with girlfriends, having lots of fun chatting and giggling the whole afternoon. To me, this is one of the happiest moments for girls.
What were some of the unique features of this setup? The layer store backdrop was the main feature for the whole design. Our lovely graphic designer Jen from Pink Pom Pom Kids and I dedicated a lot of time working on the feature to ensure the best result for the design that we have envisioned. Another important feature was the cakes and desserts from Icinghill, which brought out the wholesome cuteness and tied together the theming message. The blossom trees and ceiling balloons harmonized the whole setup, adding the wow effect. Tableware: plate, cup,

Share your top tips for those planning children’s parties and celebrations • If you want a WOW party, set a realistic budget and outsource as much as you can! This ensures the party is as stress free as possible for you whilst giving you the end result you dream of. Yes, you will spend more money but at the end of it, the results will be worth every dollar! • I f you’re using a party supplier you love and trust, make sure you ask them for recommendations for other suppliers of items you need for the party. That way you know they come highly recommended so less of a chance of things going wrong on the day. •W ith the unpredictable Sydney weather, always check supplier’s cancellation policies and make sure you have a wet weather alternative to save you checking the weather forecast every five minutes! •D on’t stress over minor things that may go wrong on the day. No one else will know notice! •A llow plenty of time for set up & delivery of items so you’re not panicking on the day of the party. •G et some photos before all the guests arrive of your party set up & immediate family members. •M ake sure you have something to entertain all the different age groups attending your event to avoid bored and frustrated children.
