NOVEMBER 2024
In this season of giving thanks, we often find ourselves reflecting on the many blessings in our lives. The true spirit of Thanksgiving encourages the conscious expression of gratitude. Its focus is spending time with those that you love and encourages giving back in a meaningful way. While ambition, competition and slaying goals can be very healthy, forgetting to place importance on being present, enjoying the ride and appreciating those around us that have helped us along in our journey, can leave us missing out on what truly matters. We’ll never be content if we look outside ourselves and at our possessions or titles to determine if we are fulfilled. True contentment comes from within and from fulfilling who we were made to be.
I am personally grateful for the opportunity to connect with you every month. We love hearing from you and how much you look forward to receiving our publication every month! We feel blessed to share with you inspirational, fun, and engaging stories to help us enjoy our everyday lives. We love what we do!
Our November issue is dedicated to stories of gathering, gratefulness and giving back to our community. We are so thankful for the residents and businesses in our community who support so many wonderful organizations and help make our towns the vibrant communities that we are. We are especially thankful for our advertising partners who help bring this magazine to your doorsteps each month. They are part of our vision and purpose of bringing inspiring stories and fun, engaging content directly to you. This holiday season as we prepare to gather with our loved ones, and in the true spirit of thanksgiving, let’s set time aside to consider what truly makes life meaningful and stop to reflect on those blessings.
If you have interesting, fun, and meaningful stories to share or are a business looking to grow within our community and the surrounding area, we would love to hear from you. EXPLORE BOLD NEW WORKS AND MEET THE ROCK LEGEND AT WENTWORTH GALLERY AT THE EXCLUSIVE NOVEMBER EVENT.
If you’ve ever dreamed of owning artwork from a rock legend and meeting that artist face-to-face, mark your calendar for November 16th, when Paul Stanley, of KISS and an acclaimed artist in his own right, brings his latest collection to the Wentworth Gallery in Short Hills, NJ. It’s not just a display of vibrant colors and bold strokes; it’s an event, a celebration of creativity, and a rare opportunity to engage with a global icon.
Wentworth Gallery’s director, Maryanne Frelinger, shared her insights into the excitement building around this show, including the unveiling of Stanley’s new abstract works, the joy of collectors meeting their rock idol, and the thrilling chance to create art alongside him. We caught up with Maryanne for an exclusive interview to get a glimpse of what’s in store.
Q: CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT PAUL STANLEY’S LATEST WORK AND WHAT ATTENDEES CAN EXPECT TO SEE?
Maryanne: Yes, over the past 20 years, Wentworth Gallery has been exclusively representing Paul Stanley’s artwork, and we’ve been honored to host many exhibitions of his various collections spanning that time. This particular exhibit for our upcoming event on November 16th is very special. Paul has been in the midst of a creative surge recently and has unveiled new large-scale abstract expressionist works that have evolved into three series, each expanding on the next. These are titled the Black Series, World in Chaos, and Joy & Rebellion . They are dynamic, colorful works with an explosive feel.
Along with these pieces, the collection includes new handpainted guitars, one-of-a-kind acrylic sculptures, and works on metal. Collectors will also see classic images they’ve come to know Paul for, such as his patriotic works, the Forever Flowers series, portraits, and more. It’s truly an all-encompassing collection.
Q: ONE OF THE UNIQUE ASPECTS OF YOUR WENTWORTH GALLERY SHOWS IS THE CHANCE FOR COLLECTORS TO MEET THE ARTIST IN PERSON. WHAT’S IT LIKE FOR FANS TO CONNECT WITH THE ARTIST AT YOUR GALLERY?
Maryanne: The opportunity for collectors to meet any artist who creates the pieces they love always adds an extra level of depth and appreciation to the experience of the artwork itself. When that artist also happens to be a legendary icon such as Paul Stanley, someone who many of his collectors have been fans of and idolized for decades, the chance to meet him in person and share time with him becomes a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s absolutely one of our favorite opportunities to provide to collectors, and for us to share in that moment when they meet their hero in person. It can be a euphoric experience.
And of course, this is an art show, so qualifying to meet the artist in person is as simple as acquiring his artwork from this collection. The entire exhibit will be on display and available for acquisition three full weeks prior to the event, so interested collectors can stop by the gallery, and we’ll be happy to give them the grand tour and assist them in finding their perfect piece. They can also preview works on our website and contact us with any questions.
Q: COLLECTORS WILL ALSO HAVE THE CHANCE TO PAINT WITH PAUL. CAN YOU TELL US MORE?
Maryanne: Our ‘Painting with Paul’ opportunity is a first for us, and we are very excited about it! This experience has room for a limited number of collectors, so it will be based on a qualifying purchase amount. I don’t want to give away all the fun details, but a small group of collectors will attend a private session with Paul, where he will give them a lesson in creating one of his pieces. Each attendee will get to leave with their own newly created work, inspired and instructed by Paul Stanley himself!
Q: PAUL STANLEY FANS ALSO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT HIS ART STUDIO AND THE KISS WAREHOUSE. HOW CAN COLLECTORS QUALIFY? CAN YOU SHARE DETAILS ON THIS EXPERIENCE?
Maryanne: This is also a first—and talk about a once-in-a-lifetime chance! The plan is for this part of the experience to take place in the spring of 2025. This is basically the golden ticket for a VIP experience for Paul’s highest-level collectors. Once again, with specific qualifying acquisitions, collectors may be entitled to join us for a visit to Paul’s private painting studio in California, which happens to be located in the famous KISS Warehouse that our collectors will get to tour! The full details of this experience will only be revealed to the lucky group attending, so those are all the specifics I’ll reveal for now.
The countdown is on—November 16th will be here before you know it. See you at the gallery! https://www.wentworthgallery.com/
In the spirit of giving and gratitude, an extraordinary event this January is set to equip women with the knowledge they need to take control of their health during menopause. Hosted at the Maplewood Country Club, Not Your Mother’s Menopause NJ will empower over 200 women with essential tools and insights on aging, health, and well-being. Organized by pelvic health therapist and owner of 5 Point Physical Therapy, Stacey Futterman Tauriello, women’s strength and fitness coach Allison Karlstad, and local advocate Apri L. McKenziel, this all-day event is more than just educational—it’s about giving back to the community.
Held on January 12, 2025, this symposium brings together a lineup of nationally renowned experts, including Dr. Sharon Malone, a leading OBGYN, and Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, head of the Birnbaum Women’s Center at NYU Law. They will join local and regional specialists to discuss everything from hormones and pelvic health to mental wellness, nutrition, and alternative therapies. “We are giving women the chance to understand their bodies and their options. Too often,

doctors tell them, ‘There’s nothing you can do, just go through it,’ which is completely false,” says Tauriello. “This event is about changing that narrative.”
The theme of giving doesn’t stop there. To ensure all women in the community have access to this vital information, the event offers a limited amount of financial aid for those in need who wish to attend. This effort is coordinated in partnership with health departments of both Maplewood and South Orange and is generously underwritten by Julie A Lorber, MD, PC Colon and Rectal Surgery and Danbrot + Labianca Properties. “We want to make sure that all women, regardless of their financial situation, can attend and learn about their health,” Tauriello emphasizes. “It’s about creating an inclusive space where every woman feels empowered.”
Attendees will enjoy personalized experiences through an interactive format. “When you register, we’ll ask you what you really want to know about menopause,” Tauriello explains. “Questions like, ‘Should I still be running?’ or ‘Why is my back aching?’ Our experts will break down the answers.” Topics include everything from hormone replacement therapy, which can reduce the risk of heart disease and dementia, to practical guidance on exercise, mental health, and nutrition.
With brunch, expert-led panels, and a spirit of support, Not Your Mother’s Menopause NJ is a gift to women seeking clarity in their health journeys. This symposium is a reminder that knowledge is the most powerful gift—and it’s one we can all be thankful for. To attend visit www.notyourmothersmenopausenj.com

This past September, the heart of Millburn Township came alive with music, laughter, and a powerful sense of giving as Rocktoberfest once again brought the community together. Organized to support the Millburn Education Foundation (MEF), this annual event serves as the foundation’s largest fundraiser, with proceeds directly benefiting the township’s schools, teachers, and students by funding key projects that enhance the education experience.
Co-chairs Joanna Parker-Lentz and Micole Cohen Richter have overseen the festival’s growth and evolution over the past nine years, and both share a deep passion for the community-focused spirit of Rocktoberfest. “It’s not just a music festival— it’s about bringing people together for a common cause,” Joanna explained. “Rocktoberfest is a celebration of our town and a way for us to give back to the schools and students who shape our future.”
The festival offered something for everyone. With three music stages in Taylor Park and another at Boxcar in Short Hills, live performances filled the air with an eclectic mix of local talent. Meanwhile, kids enjoyed the Kid Zone, which featured games and rides for toddlers through teenagers. Families delighted in exploring the artisan village, browsing handmade crafts, and enjoying delicious fare from 22 food vendors, including a must-see Belgian dessert artist who captivated the crowd with her intricate creations. “We work hard to curate a diverse and fun experience that appeals to the entire community,” Micole noted.
Inclusivity was at the heart of this year’s event, with expanded offerings for children with special needs. A low-sensory zone provided a quieter environment, while a new low-sensory stage offered acoustic performances in a calm setting. Special Olympics of New Jersey also hosted activities,

ensuring that Rocktoberfest truly had something for everyone. “We want every family, no matter their circumstances, to feel welcome and included,” said Micole.
While Rocktoberfest is a fun-filled day, its impact on the Millburn community goes far beyond entertainment. The funds raised at the event support MEF’s grant programs, which have helped bring to life several significant projects across the school district. In past years, Rocktoberfest has contributed to the creation of a high-tech television studio at the high school and has supported the renowned robotics program, which has gained national recognition. “Our schools receive funding for things that go beyond what’s typically provided by taxpayer dollars,” Joanna explained. “From arts programs to robotics and physical education, Rocktoberfest helps us make sure every student has access to the best possible learning opportunities.”
Over 100 volunteers contributed to the festival’s success. “It takes a village to make Rocktoberfest happen, and we’re so thankful for the support of our volunteers and sponsors,” said Joanna. “Our community’s generosity is what makes this event special. We couldn’t do it without the hundreds of people who step up to help.”
Though Rocktoberfest has passed, its impact is lasting. The funds raised will continue to support Millburn schools and enrich the lives of students for years to come. As Micole summed up, “Rocktoberfest is about bringing people together, making a difference, and ensuring our schools and community continue to thrive.”
Magnolia gives back with George and Make-A-Wish.
For Chris Fontana and Vic Fiore, owners of Magnolia Home Remodeling Group, giving back is at the core of their business. Their dedication to community shines through in their partnerships with George to the Rescue and the Make-A-Wish Foundation , helping families in need through home renovations and fulfilling the wishes of children facing life-threatening illnesses.
Magnolia’s collaboration with George to the Rescue began over five years ago when they were asked to assist a family in Union Township who had recently suffered a devastating loss. A father of two had tragically passed away on Thanksgiving Day, leaving behind his children, Victoria and Harrison. Magnolia stepped in, donating a full bath-
room renovation and transforming Harrison’s bedroom. “That was our first project with George,” Chris recalls.
That initial project paved the way for more opportunities to make a difference. Recently, Magnolia was called upon for another life-changing renovation. A family’s son had suffered a severe cheerleading accident, resulting in quadriplegia. The George to the Rescue team asked if Magnolia could help.
“The family’s biggest challenge was mobility. Their home was small, and their son’s wheelchair couldn’t fit comfortably in tight spaces, especially the kitchen,” explains Chris. “His mother’s hope was that he could participate more in family life, like joining
them in the kitchen.” Magnolia’s solution was to create a more open and accessible kitchen that would allow the young man to engage with his family. “We wanted him to be part of the daily routine again—cooking, eating, and chatting around the table,” Chris says.
Magnolia also made critical updates to the son’s bedroom, where the constant wear and tear from the wheelchair had taken its toll. “We made small but meaningful changes—rebuilding walls, modifying a closet, and improving the overall flow of the room,” Vic adds. “It wasn’t a massive overhaul, but it made a huge difference in the quality of his life.”
Magnolia’s commitment to giving back extends beyond their work with George to the Rescue. The company has partnered with the

Make-A-Wish Foundation on two projects, using their skills to fulfill the dreams of children in need. In Newark, they remodeled a bedroom for a young girl, creating a peaceful and comforting retreat.
More recently, Magnolia completed a bathroom renovation for a teenager in Little Falls. “It was his wish to provide his family with a nice, functional bathroom, and we were honored to help make that happen,” Vic says. “Giving back to families facing tough times is incredibly rewarding.”
What makes Magnolia’s efforts even more impactful is their ability to rally a network of partners and vendors who share their passion for helping others.
“We’ve built strong relationships over the years, and many of our suppliers have generously donated high-quality materials for these projects,” Vic explains. “It’s a community effort, and we’re grateful to be part of such a giving network.”
As Chris and Vic reflect on their work, they remain humbled by the opportunities to use their skills for good. “We’re fortunate to run a family business and be surrounded by great people,” Chris says. “Giving back is how we pay it forward, and it’s something we’ll continue to do for as long as we can.”
In this season of giving and thankfulness, Magnolia Home Remodeling continues to make a difference— one home, and one family, at a time.
MICHELIN-INSPIRED FLAVORS WITH A MODERN TWIST ON LONG BEACH ISLAND’S COASTLINE.

Long Beach Island is best known for its summer beaches and laid-back coastal vibe, but a new year-round dining destination is set to redefine how locals and visitors experience Italian cuisine. Enter Azzurri Italian Cucina, a stunning restaurant that merges traditional Italian flavors with a bold, modern twist. The name alone, Azzurri—meaning “blue” in
Italian—evokes the calm, endless expanse of the Mediterranean, setting the tone for the culinary adventure that awaits.
Azzurri offers more than just a meal—it’s a meticulously crafted experience rooted in authenticity and innovation. Executive Chef Anthony Gentilella’s menu is a love letter to his Italian heritage, built on generations of family recipes handed down from
AZZURRI OFFERS MORE THAN JUST A MEAL—IT’S A METICULOUSLY CRAFTED EXPERIENCE ROOTED IN AUTHENTICITY AND INNOVATION.
his grandparents and great-grandparents. These dishes form the heart of Azzurri’s offerings, with rustic flavors that transport diners straight to the countryside of Italy. Yet, what makes Azzurri stand out in the crowded culinary landscape of Long Beach Island is Anthony’s commitment to elevating these humble, “peasant” dishes with fresh ideas and techniques he picked up on his remarkable culinary journey.
From Toscano Ristorante, one of New Jersey’s top Italian dining spots, to the Michelin-starred Jean-Georges in New York, Anthony’s experience reflects a rare blend of tradition and boundary-pushing creativity. At Toscano, under the
guidance of Executive Chef Zack Melker, he learned the art of blending authentic flavors with modern techniques, and at Jean-Georges, Anthony was introduced to a new level of precision. This expertise, combined with his family roots in Florence, brings Azzurri’s menu to life in ways that surprise and delight even the most discerning palates.
Take, for instance, one of the standout dishes on the menu: Bacon-Wrapped Long Hot Peppers. Inspired by traditional Italian ingredients but presented with a fresh twist, this dish combines ground sausage, veal, and bacon, wrapped in crispy bacon and finished with a lemon honey ricotta.
The layers of flavor, texture, and the unexpected twist of sweetness make it an instant favorite.
And then there’s the Squid Ink Tagliatelle—a dish that pairs tender squid ink pasta with rich braised beef, prosciutto, and beef bone marrow. The savory intensity of the squid ink is balanced with a sweet balsamic reduction, making it an unforgettable highlight of Azzurri’s daring menu. For a lighter option, the Seasonal Chicken Milanese brings together crispy, golden chicken breast with a refreshing salad of greens and avocado, evoking the restaurant’s beachfront setting with every bite.
But it’s not just the food that makes Azzurri a must-visit. Stepping inside, you’re greeted by a space designed to create an atmosphere that marries coastal charm with modern elegance. Whether you choose to dine alfresco on the patio, or inside the thoughtfully curated dining room, the ambiance is part of what makes this place so special. Every guest is treated like family, with attentive service that elevates the experience even further.
Behind the scenes, Anthony and Chef de Cuisine Joaquin Agnes channel their Michelin-starred experience to bring the same level of precision, passion, and artistry to every dish. This attention to detail is what takes a meal at Azzurri from ordinary to extraordinary.
While Long Beach Island may be synonymous with summer fun, Azzurri promises an experience that is as warm and inviting in the depths of winter as it is during peak beach season. Now open, Azzurri is a culinary gem that’s worth discovering any time of year. https://azzurrilbi.com/
