Hey Neighbors, November is the month of GRATITUDE!

Here comes the crisp air of November, this season offers us a reminder to pause and reflect on all that we are grateful for. Gratitude isn't just a feeling—it’s a perspective that enriches our lives, and this month invites us to celebrate it fully. Living in such a vibrant, supportive community is something I cherish deeply.

I love my role as a Diplomat with the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber. I get to volunteer with an amazing group of local business professionals. We welcome all new businesses to our area and have a blast doing it together. So, thank you CABC, The Ambassadors, and The Diplomats. I am grateful to have all of you in my life.

I also want to thank Chelsea Burns for healing my beloved dog, Jax’s torn ACL. We introduce you to Quantum Energy Healing in this issue. It was a life-changing treatment for our senior pup.

Neighbors lending a hand, non-profits making a difference, a local business stepping up for a cause, or friends rallying together in times of need, I’m constantly inspired by the people who go the extra mile for others. These acts of kindness, both big and small, strengthen our paradise. I’m truly grateful for those who not only make this coastal community what it is but help it grow into something even greater.

As I reflect on the power of gratitude and community, I can’t help but mention our Andy Andrews. His books, like  The Traveler’s Gift, The Noticer, and  The Bottom of the  Pool (my latest read) remind us of the power of perspective and the lasting impact we can have on each other's lives. Andy’s journey, marked by resilience, wisdom, and a deep understanding of the human spirit, mirrors the strength and character I see in the people who call the Gulf Coast home. Through his storytelling, Andy shows us that even the smallest gestures—whether a kind word, a helping hand; or simply being present—can change the course of someone’s life. I encourage you to read or revisit his works this season as a reminder of the beauty in both gratitude and giving.

Wishing you all a November filled with gratitude, reflection, and connection.

From all of us that create this passion project just for you, Happy Thanksgiving!

Love local, live local. and spend locally, Until next month...

THE EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY

ANDY ANDREWS

FROM STRUGGLES TO SUCCESS

Andy Andrews is not just a New York Times bestselling author. Good Morning America has also listed The Traveler’s Gift, as “One of the five books you should read in your lifetime” and The Bottom of the Pool was listed on Forbes as one of the “Top 7 Books All Entrepreneurs Must Read.”  Andy is a lighthouse of hope and inspiration for many who seek wisdom and a better way of life. With 26 published books, including the widely acclaimed “The Noticer Series,”

Andy has carved a unique niche in the world of literature and personal development. However, his journey to success was not a linear path; it was filled with challenges that shaped him into the man and inspirational figure he is today.

At the young age of just 19, tragedy struck when Andy lost both of his parents. As he humorously reflects “I’ve always had the ability to make bad decisions worse, and I did that then.” Faced with grief, he made a series of financial

decisions that led from him living in a trailer and having a car to sleeping in a tent and sometimes under the Gulf State Pier. Despite these hardships, Andy never considered himself homeless. “Back then, that was just not a word we used and it never really crossed my mind until someone eventually said something to me.” Andy worked diligently cleaning boats, guiding fishermen, and selling bait, embodying a resilience that would later inform his teachings.

In what can only be described as a pivotal turning point, Andy began to reassess his life and the decisions that had brought him to this point. An older man named Jones encouraged him to read biographies and thus began a transformative journey of self-discovery. Over the course of several years, reading more than 200 biographies, Andy uncovered a common thread among the happy and successful individuals he studied. He identified seven key principles that he believes are essential for anyone seeking to improve their life:

“I HAD THE ABILITY TO MAKE BAD DECISIONS WORSE, AND I DID.”

• Responsibility. Taking ownership of your own thoughts and actions.

• Seeking Wisdom. Constantly looking for knowledge and insight from sources that inspire you.

• Becoming a person of action. Understanding that knowledge is only powerful when it is acted upon.

• Having a decided heart. Committing to a path and seeing it through.

• Choosing your emotions. Recognizing that we have the power to decide how we feel.

• Forgiveness. Embracing a forgiving heart to free yourself and others from past burdens.

• Persisting without exception. Demonstrating unwavering determination and resilience.

“While these principles may seem simple,” Andy says, “their depth is often overlooked.” He encourages individuals to open their perception to the world around them, as every experience, good or bad, holds the potential for learning and growth.

Andy’s commitment to fostering a brighter future extends beyond his books. He founded WisdomHarbour.com, a streaming service designed for families and schools with the mission of creating America’s greatest generation. Through this platform, Andy provides valuable resources and insights aimed at nurturing the minds and hearts of young people.

In addition, Andy hosts a weekly podcast titled “The Professional Noticer: Observations and Answers with Andy Andrews” with subscribers in more than 120 countries. Listeners can join him live on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:15 PM for enlightening discussions that draw on his wealth of knowledge and experience.

What truly sets Andy apart is his genuine heart for people. He speaks life and inspiration into those who are searching for guidance, offering a message of hope that resonates deeply. In a world often overshadowed by negativity. Andy serves as a reminder that change is possible. A better life is within reach for anyone willing to seek it.

A letter from Andy Andrews

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yeah…I know that TODAY is not technically Thanksgiving Day…

My point, I suppose, is that while we name one day every year, the day to “give thanks,” in reality, we can personally declare a day of thanksgiving on any day.  Or even EVERY day.

As an overarching theme…having a grateful spirit provides the foundation for living a life of good health and great joy.

Unfortunately–and I know this is true in my case–a grateful spirit does not come naturally.  Living in a consistent state of gratitude requires a conscious choice.  Therefore, I have to work at it…intentionally.

I have come to believe that we are the gardeners of our own hearts. It is up to us to pull the weeds of ingratitude while watering and feeding every spark of thanksgiving that occurs.

At the end of the day, gratitude is a thought process I must plan to activate every day.  Gratitude is not an automatic response to a gift or kind word.  On the contrary, gratitude should be lived as a discipline.

The discipline of gratitude might be defined as the conscious effort to identify sources of contribution to our lives and outwardly acknowledge that contribution.

As we close, allow me to add a bit about how important it is to raise your children to be grateful.

As we know, an ungrateful person will not be a happy person.  This in itself should be enough for us to determine that our children need to grow up with a healthy understanding of gratitude’s power and their ability to bring it into focus every day.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY SWIGER STUDIO- JD SWIGER

What does a grateful child become?  A grateful adult.  And if you think about it for a moment, you’ll realize that a grateful spirit is always at the core of the people we like most.  Show me a grateful child and I’ll show you a child who will be an awesome husband or wife; an incredible mother or father.

Grateful children become the best employees and the best employers.  Grateful children become lifelong learners.  They become better listeners and are more willing to go to bat for someone else.

Grateful children have an easier time in school and often become leaders.  Why?  Because a spirit of gratitude attracts hearts and minds.  People naturally follow a person who displays a spirit of gratitude.

So, from my family to yours, allow me to say today… Happy Thanksgiving!  Remember that making gratitude an intentional focus of your life is one of the most reality changing choices you can ever make.

CHILDREN’S RESCUE INITIATIVE

The path to becoming a special agent is often paved with unexpected turns. For Angelo Fermo, that journey began in the small town of Clarksdale, Mississippi where he first dreamed of a career in law enforcement. The tragic events of September 11, 2001, ignited a fire within him, a determination to serve

The Journey of Angelo Fermo
“The look on these children’s faces when they realize they’ve been rescued is priceless.”

and protect his country by becoming a special agent. Despite having yet to venture beyond his hometown, he set his sights on becoming a U.S. Marshal. However, fate had other plans, and he found himself offered a position as a U.S. Customs Special Agent instead.

Angelo’s career as a special agent began in San Antonio, Texas, but soon expanded far beyond the confines of that city. Through a series of assignments, he traveled across the United States and even internationally, gaining invaluable experience in various facets of law enforcement. Among his many skills, wiretapping phones and dismantling drug cartels became his niche. It was during this period that he forged a friendship with a Supervisory

Special Agent named Joe Bettner, a man from Baldwin County, Alabama. Joe, embodying the warm spirit of Southern hospitality, invited Angelo to relocate to Baldwin County, proclaiming it to be “the best place to live on earth”

Five years later, fate smiled upon Angelo once again, offering him the opportunity to work in Baldwin County, engaging in undercover operations for the Federal government. While his career had thus far been marked by a focus on drug enforcement, Angelo had always been wary of the dark realm of child trafficking. However, life has a way of pushing individuals into uncomfortable yet necessary roles, and Angelo soon found himself entrenched in this very world.

CONTINUED >

The turning point in Angelo’s career came when Joe handed him a case involving child sexual assault and trafficking from Mobile County, AL. It was a harrowing situation that would forever alter the course of his life. After successfully completing the mission and apprehending those responsible for the heinous acts, Angelo experienced a profound realization: this was not just a job; it was his calling. The encounter changed something within him, prompting a commitment to fight against the insidious forces of child trafficking.

Throughout his time in Mobile, Alabama, Angelo occasionally collaborated with Tim Harry, Founder of Severance Security and The Children’s Rescue Initiative—a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing children and adults trapped in sex trafficking and labor slavery. Their mission is not only to liberate victims but also to raise awareness and provide training to prevent such atrocities. Angelo was deeply moved by their efforts and recognized the importance of their work.

After retiring from federal service, Angelo was presented with an opportunity to join the board of The Children’s Rescue Initiative. However, he had one condition for accepting the role: he wanted to participate in a mission to witness firsthand the impact of their work. This request was met with enthusiasm, and after embarking on the mission, Angelo returned with a renewed sense of purpose. He knew he had partnered with the right initiative, surrounded by dedicated partners committed to ending the scourge of human trafficking.

Angelo, Tim, and their team work tirelessly with professionals from diverse backgrounds across the globe. They tackle the multifaceted issue of human trafficking, which tragically remains a pressing concern in today’s society. Their efforts are not only about rescuing individuals but also about restoring dignity, offering rehabilitation, and ensuring that survivors have the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

“Everyone going on these missions is doing it because their hearts are in the right place. We’re saving people’s lives and what’s more valuable than that?”

The work of the Children’s Rescue Initiative is a necessary response to the alarming reality of modern slavery. Each mission is a reminder of the importance of community involvement, awareness, and action. Angelo’s journey embodies the spirit of resilience and dedication to a cause that affects millions worldwide—one that demands our collective attention.

As we reflect on the contributions of individuals like Angelo and Tim, it becomes clear that their efforts are not in vain. They are heroes working tirelessly to save lives, restore hope, and dismantle the networks that perpetuate human trafficking. Their journey is a rallying

call for all of us to take action—whether through donations, volunteer work, or simply spreading awareness about this critical issue.

Angelo Fermo’s story is one of transformation and purpose. From a small-town dreamer to a dedicated special agent and now a champion for the voiceless, his path is a testament to the power of commitment and compassion. As we acknowledge the sacrifices made by Angelo, Tim, and the entire team at The Children’s Rescue Initiative, let us be inspired to contribute in any way we can to this vital cause. Together, we can help mend the broken lives of those impacted by trafficking and ensure a brighter future for all.
