JACKSONVILLE HUMANE SOCIETY
MUTT MARCH 2020, JACKSONVILLE’S LARGEST DOG WALK AND FESTIVAL
IN 1920, THE JACKSONVILLE HUMANE SOCIETY (JHS) MOVED TO ITS OFFICIAL LOCATION ON BEACH BOULEVARD IN THE SOUTH SIDE OF JACKSONVILLE. Now, 100 years later on the exact same land, sits the Society’s home - a 50,000 square foot, state-of-the-art adoption, education and pet help center. The center features an adoption village for homeless pets complete with dog suites, a dedicated puppy room and catios! It also includes a low-cost veterinary clinic and education campus for children.
In addition to pet adoption, JHS offers community resources to keep pets in their loving homes including a pet food bank, low-cost or free veterinary care, behavior support, and even emergency boarding. JHS believes that families in crisis should never have to give up their beloved pet. Keeping pets in their loving home also means that kennel space is available for pets without families, who are stray, lost, abandoned or neglected.
JHS proudly partners with Animal Care and Protective Services to keep Jacksonville a no kill city, meaning that a minimum of 90% of the animals who enter either shelter leave alive. Jacksonville became a no kill city in 2014 and both organizations work to sustain this goal every day. JHS is a 501c3 non-profit, local and independent organization. MUTT MARCH
Mutt March is Jacksonville's largest dog walk and pet festival. Held at the Jacksonville Humane Society's modern facility, this annual event raises funds to support dogs and cats in need. The first walk, called Trails of Tails, was held in 2011 at the Jacksonville Landing. When the Jacksonville Humane Society’s new building opened in 2017, the walk moved to their historic Beach Boulevard property. The event now features a parade of dogs down one of the city’s largest roads for all to see!
Registrants can create online donation pages to raise funds for the Humane Society. And for anyone who doesn’t want to walk alone, there’s an option to create a team and work together to raise even more!
The walk is a one-mile path (with a shorter, quarter-mile option for older or little-legged pups) that kicks off at JHS, goes down Beach Boulevard and through the surrounding neighborhoods. Along the way, you might run into some of Jacksonville’s favorite mascots including Jaxson de Ville, Scampi and even the Easter Bunny!
After the walk, you can party with your pup at the festival with our pet-centric vendors, food trucks, music, and a kids' zone. Peruse the silent auction with more than 100 exciting items including concert tickets, spa gift certificates, photo sessions, amusement park deals and so much more.
Mutt March is a chance for the community to have fun and celebrate our love for pets, but also to come together and support the Jacksonville Humane Society’s mission. Each year, JHS provides compassionate care to more than 9,000 dogs and cats in need. Your support will make lifesaving possible in 2020. Can we count on you?
