eMy work is intended to inantaneously immerse the viewer into the visual and emotional energies that I have devoted to each piece. Depending on onees ability and willingness to be guided by the senses, these paintings can lead one away from the mind and into an alternate and self-made reality filled with cor and feeling. My new series features original and different mixed media such as BB Gun Pellets. I love working with different mediums, because they change in the light and I can manipulate the textures and layering; thus affording each piece movement and energy from the reflecting and refracting light. - Sara Conca

Sara Conca is a contemporary abstract artist of French-Italian descent. She has sold her works to many collectors in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Her paintings can be found in private chateaus and hotel lobbies in France, as well as in many exclusive celebrity homes and museums. By the age of 17, Sara was living and working in Paris. A life changing experience that reinforced her need for movement, energy and art. While in Paris, Sara studied sculpture at Ateliers D’Art De St Maur Des Fosses, and further continued her education in South Florida as an assistant of the critically lauded artist Purvis Young. Sara Conca has spent her last 18 years in Manhattan, Living solely off her painting sales, Extensive international travels, and the influence of New York City has given her an insightful appreciation for her ever- changing environments and settings, as well as heavily influencing her. Sara Conca has returned to her roots in Florida, which has inspired her to create a fresh aquatic mystical series involving natural mixed media such as raw silver dust, brass key shavings, mica flakes, natural crystals, raw pigments, BB Gun pellets and 18k gold leafing.

Nick Martinez and Ryan Martinez (unrelated) are well known bartenders who met over a decade ago while working at Houston's. Notably two of the best bar tenders in town their crossed paths with Brian Giampa. Seven years ago Nick met Brian and started bar-backing, bartending and eventually taking on management responsibilities for him at O’Brian’s Irish Pub on SE 1st Avenue in Boca Raton. After a year of working with Brian, Nick recruited Ryan and the rest was history. "Brian has been an amazing mentor to both of us over this journey. We’ve had our ups being a part of the most successful pub/bar in South Florida, if not the entire state. Hosting our famous St. Patrick’s Day block party comes to mind and our downs when bars were shut down in Palm Beach County at 5pm March 17th, 2020. Ironically, St. Patrick’s Day due to COVID-19.'' - Nick Martinez O’Brian’s Irish Pub is still closed due to virus related ristrictions and the entire staff was consequently unemployed. All agree It was a trying five months. Frankly, they were three bar guys who needed to up their cocktail game but most importantly needed to have a kitchen to ensure they were never shut out again. (Palm Beach County COVID19 restrictions only allowed bars with kitchens serving food to remain open.) Brian is credited for always pushing the group to do better, to always find the strength within themselves, and never settling for mediocre. The guys came together and embodied the mantra," adapt or die." From these dire circumstances, out of the ashes, The Standard was born. Never again would the busiest, hottest spot in town, be shut down in a day. A dear friend, Sean Strasburger, the bar manager joined the group from Mario’s and together they came up with a phenomenal cocktail menu. Constantly raising The Standard, CONTINUED >

Bride and MOH/Sister
WOO HOO! Can you hear the wedding bells ringing? If you just got engaged and started planning your wedding, then your mind is probably racing with a to-do list. You are probably thinking, “who do I need to pick for bridesmaids?” because a lot of expectations rest on that decision. It’s tricky, but the good news is: you are the bride and your rules are law. WHO SHOULD YOU CONSIDER FOR YOUR BRIDESMAID? It’s okay to choose not to pick someone for your bridesmaid, but it would be terrible if you just forgot to consider them. Here are a few of the most common pools bride’s pick their bridesmaids from: ARTICLE MARTI SCHNURR | PHOTOGRAPHY AMANDA PAIGE 16

It will mean a lot because it isn’t an automatic expectation like your own sisters would be. + Close Cousins Sometimes we have close cousins that feel like sisters. They definitely make the list. Cousins are a great option especially if you don’t have sisters. + Sorority Sisters If you had really close connections in college, you might want them there for your big day. However, if there are a lot of them, you might not have enough space for them all to make the cut. Some women choose to make their sorority sisters honorary bridesmaids, giving them a special wristlet, bracelet or corsage to set them apart as a group and giving them special reserved seating. + Childhood Friends You might have a lot of memories with someone that you aren’t as close to now. Sometimes adding them in the big moments of your life will help keep those relationships strong for a long-term friendship, even if you don’t hang together a lot. WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR BRIDESMAIDS? They should be your support system, listening ear and cheer squad. Don’t ask them to spend a lot of money on your wedding or be so invested that it takes from their own lives and families. But, do expect them to be your pack as you prepare for one of the biggest days of your life.

PRIVATE PALM BEACH COUNTY GRANT-MAKING ORGANIZATION IMPROVES ACCESS TO HEALTHRELATED RESOURCES
AS THE CORONAVIRUS CONTINUES TO MAKE ITS MARK THROUGHOUT PALM BEACH COUNTY, QUANTUM FOUNDATION HAS STEPPED UP WITH FUNDING TO MEET THE IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS AND VULNERABLE POPULATIONS IMPACTED BY THE VIRUS. Quantum Foundation’s mission is to fund initiatives that improve the health of Palm Beach County residents. In 1998, Quantum Foundation marked its rookie year as one of Palm Beach County’s newest and largest philanthropic organizations with an impressive $7.6 million granted to more than 40 Palm Beach County projects. Just over 20 years later, with assets of approximately $155 million, the organization’s focus remains on keeping Palm Beach County healthy. Their awards to date total more than $145 million and have impacted hundreds of local nonprofit organizations. Every dollar the foundation grants continues to stay in the county to benefit local communities. Quantum made grants each quarter of 2020, with the first cycle of grants totaling upwards of $830,000 and the second round totaling more than $1.3 million. In addition to these scheduled grants, Quantum Foundation stepped up to provide $650,000 in COVID-19 relief. “The goal is to meet both the ongoing needs of the community, as well as be responsive to emergent needs,” said Eric Kelly, president of Quantum Foundation. “At Quantum Foundation, we believe that health is not simply the absence of illness, but it is a positive state of physical and mental CONTINUED >

DETAILS:
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A CHEF? It was my father who encouraged me to follow my passion and love for food. He was an entrepreneur and owned his own business for 75 years, so his work ethic was admirable and incredible for us to watch growing up. Right before I graduated, we discussed my career path, and we knew I should make the leap into the culinary and hospitality world. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHT? I’ve been with the Boca Raton Resort & Club for 28, almost 29, years. I always say you are only as good as the people around you, and I aim to surround myself with a team that I can learn from. I’m proud of that. Another highlight of my career was in 2018, when I was named the “Chef of the Year” for all of Hilton and Waldorf Astoria properties after hosting a 650-person event. It was the cherry on top of an amazing event. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE FOOD TREND? I love to see plant-based menus and dishes having a moment. It’s no longer a fad. People are gravitating towards this plant-based lifestyle and restaurants who are able to accommodate it are thinking outside the box to keep it exciting. HOW HAS COVID-19 CHANGED THE FOOD SERVICE OPTIONS AT THE RESORT? We started offering curbside pickup which has done tremendously well. We’re seeing a lot of orders for fried chicken (125 to be exact!) meatballs, and lasagna. Start with several mini pumpkins. (We prefer to use fake ones so you don’t have to worry about leaving them out too long!) You’ll also need some white paint, metallic paint and black paint. Twine is optional to add a slightly rustic vibe to the stems.

looks with combinations of metallic and flat paint. Make extra creepy “oozing” pumpkins by allowing paint to run down the sides.

Leave your stems natural or cover with metallic paint if desired. Then, coat your mini pumpkins in matte black paint— be sure to cover everything!
